Her attack was good progress . . . however it would have been even better had she seen what she was doing. He stopped for a moment, smiling a bit. "Guinevère, it would be much easier to see that target that you are trying to hit." He wasn't mocking her or making fun of her, for he knew that this was difficult. To train someone to kill who had never done so before was a very hard thing to do. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. "Keep your eyes on the target at all times. In that one moment you closed your eyes . . . most likely, you would never have opened them again."
He was about to tell her to try again, when her question made him prolong the break. Did she want the brutal honest truth? Or should he try to be less cynical? Part of his job when leading an army was to never discourage his soldiers, even if they looked massively outnumbered. He always had to provide hope, and assure them that this was not a waste of their lives. "I truly hope so." It was not a lie. No one was blind to how slim their chances of success were, and yet, they were all still fighting. He cleared his throat, and got back into position. "Again." This time, he stepped towards her, swinging the sword from the top downwards.

Again? Guinevère thought about this words before attacking. He seemed to answer with out answering her. It was odd how she was finding it easier and easier to read him, and see him as a kind and good man rather then the spoiled bully she had thought him to be. Someone, not seeing him as the spoiled pratt of a bully was making it harder to attack him. Would she be able to hurt a stranger?
She lifted the sword and moved in again, this time trying to get in closer. When it appeared she might be getting close to hitting him she pulled back with a squeak, but then she noticed he must have been ready to block her or something because she had not gotten as close as she thought. Guinevère wondered if she looked relieved as she felt about not hitting him. She tired to lung in for a gab at him, but over lunged and nearly feel forward. She did however, get very close to landing that blow. (Pure luck).

She as getting . . . better. She was working on her aim but he was still detecting far too much hesitation in her. "That was good Guinevère. Just try to keep your footwork solid so that you can maintain your balance." He needed to do something to make her less afraid to strike someone. Had she ever hit someone before? If she had not . . . today was going to be the day she did, and Arthur was not talking about the battlefield. He put his sword back in its holder, attached to his side and held up his index finger as if to say 'just one minute'. He ran back to the training ground, and found exactly what he was looking for, so quickly returned to where Gwen was standing.
He had in his hand, a large stick type thing that they used during training. He passed it to Guinevère and then took a few steps back. "I want you to hit me with that." Ordinarily, Arthur was much too concerned about his pride to make such an offer, but Guinevère needed to break out of this fear to strike someone if that was in fact what was stopping her from attacking him. "Just try not to aim for . . . any sensitive areas." He didn't think he needed to explain which specific southern region he was talking about. "And try to avoid the face as well. I want to be able to see, hear and speak for the next few hours," he said jokingly; no one wanted to get hit in the face. "Anywhere else though is fine. Now strike me, as hard as you can." He stood there waiting and defenseless.

Arthur could wait until Uther hoped on a dragon and road around promoting witchcraft, because that was going to happen allot fast then Guinevère hitting him with a stick. She looked down at the stick before looking back up at him. "Sire, have you gone confused?" She asked while wondering if he was going to counter her attack and hit her. THAT seemed more likely, then him just STANDING there asking her to smack him and avoid his 'areas'. (It was bad enough that at his words her eyes almost fell to that area! She had only JUST managed to avoid looking!!)
"I can not just hit you. Your the Prince of Camelot!" She protested. "Besides you have no weapon. It was easier to attacked you when you could fight back I can not just hit you knowing you not going to!"

"We are all nomads here Guinevère," he said when she said that he was the Prince of Camelot, and could therefore not hit him. "You need to get a feel for what it is like to strike someone. You need to know how much pressure and strength to apply, how to control whatever weapon your using, and right now, I am not giving you an easier target." He needed to get used to this, because in battle, no one was going to be standing there, just waiting to get hit by a sword or other weapon.
"So come on now, hit me. Don't pretend like you don't want to," he said smirking. She had already spoken up against his ways, surely there was a part of her that wanted to hit him. Of course . . . if anyone else dared, he would give them a beating of their life. But because it was her, and because he was offering, it was different.

He might think she secretly wanted to hit him with a stick but Guinevère did not. She was not a violent person and this was taking allot for her to do. "If you feel the need to be abused, Perhaps I should go get Morgana who is good at it. . . . or Merlin who might actually want to do it." She said, trying to get out of it but she saw that he was not about to change him mind so she lifted the stick like the sword and walked closer.
Closing her eyes she swung the stick at him, trying to hold back so not to hurt him and hit in in the upper arm. It was not enough to hurt, but enough to maybe let her get out of doing it again? She opened her eyes slowly and smiled up at him. She had not hurt him, and it wasn't as bad as she thought. She reached the stick out and poked him. "Perhaps I should practice hitting people I don't respect. . . . " Oh no! "Not that I think highly of you." OH NO! "Because I do. Because you the prince." GWEN! "And I respect the prince, just the person is different." SHUT UP! "But not better then the prince, just different. . . . . . ." Now he was going to hit her with the stick!

He knew that Morgana and Merlin would probably take him up on this, a little too enthusiastically . . . but they did not need to. Even though Merlin was ridiculous with a sword, he had seen them fight, and they were . . . somewhat able to hold their ground. Morgana, more than Merlin. But Guinevère's hesitance was going to get her in trouble. "You are lucky. No one else has ever been given this chance." Not that he believed there was a long list of people who wanted to beat him up . . . that he knew of. When she was preparing to hit him, he was actually relieved that she was complying with his suggestion, or offer rather. That was, until she actually hit him. He gave her a look of disbelief. "Guinevère," he began, enunciating every syllable of her name. "A mosquito bite hurts more than what you just did." He had not even flinched. Granted, he had a high threshold for pain, but really! That was nothing.
He shook his head, chuckling at her little ramble. "Now if you could only hit as well as you can talk, we would be getting somewhere." He was of course just teasing her . . . sort of. Maybe he was trying to provoke her, to delve into some anger that she wished to express. And he was standing right here, waiting to take the hit -- quite literally. "Now come. You say women have the strength to fight, prove it. Just . . . look at your target this time."

Guinevère knew he was trying to provoke her by his words and calling her by her full name even after he knew she liked Gwen better. She just stood there for a moment staring at him, with a large internal debate going on. On one hand, it was like following orders and she did need to learn this; and on the other HE was the PRINCE of CAMELOT!! Which meant she should follow his orders. When he teased her for her talking, and about girls being weaker she glared at him. Fine! She would hit him!
She just could not do so with he staring at her all arrogant. "I think that man is trying to get your attention." She pointed over his shoulder at nothing and he his face was turned from her she gave the stick a good whack across his arm. Then QUICKLY dropped it and moved back.

Arthur fell victim to her trick. He turned to look, and the next thing he knew -- or felt -- was a heavy stick being thrust at him on the arm. He was shocked . . . surprised . . . and pleased! He looked at her, his face expressing the shock, but suddenly his lips broke into a smile. "Good job! That is an excellent start." She had dropped the weapon though. That perhaps was not the smartest thing to do. "However, right now you are completely defenseless." His arm felt sore; it was nothing compared to other battle wounds but the soreness was oddly something Arthur had been hoping for.
He drew his sword and began walking towards her. "You said before that I was defenseless and so you could not hit me. Right now, you are defenseless and an armed man is coming towards you. You must quickly react!" He hoped she was going to pick up that stick, and quickly! Not that he was actually going to hurt her, but now, it was a time to test her reflexes and see how quick and swift her actions would be if she was not warned about each move.

Guinevère looked at the sword for a moment and took a few steps back. She need to react, yes. Quickly! She looked down at the ground, and -quickly- picked up a rock and though it at him. She knew it would not hit him but she hoped it would at lest make him duck or confuses him. After she did she took the few steps she needed to grab the sword (not the stick) and move in for her attack like he asked.
Guinevère could be brave, and think on her feet. She wasn't stupid nor reckless. Her only trouble was hurting others. She could not do it. She had only managed to barley hurt Arthur. How would she stab a man? Maybe she would feel different later, in the heat of battle?

A lifetime of training gave Arthur very good reflexes. He ducked at the sudden launch of a rock, but her tactic had worked for it confused him. He quickly regained focus, and she clearly knew what she was doing. He went in for the block. Using more force than before so that she would have to do the same if she wanted to successfully fight him off. He blocked, and forced her sword to the side, while he swung for a frontal attack.
"The rock was a nice touch," he encouraged as their swords continued to clash. "Good improvisation skills. Something that will come in handy during battle." With each strike, and each attack, he was increasing his strength. He wanted her to gradually feel the difference, and what she would most likely be facing when fighting with a group of men. "Keep focusing Guinevère. The second you lose that focus, will be your last."

Guinevère really did not want to fight in a battle against Arthur. Right now he seemed very unlike the bully prince she had once thought him to be. If she was doing this badly, in a really fight he would take her part slowly. At one point his attack became to strong for her and she dropped her sword. She looked up at him shocked and took a few steps back. Her foot tripped over something and she fell on her behind.
Looking down she noticed her stick, the one he had given her to hit him with. She grabbed it and forced her self up. The stick was lighter, and she could move it easier. She knew if his sword wanted it, it would brake her stick, and the same thing could be said of the man and the woman holding the weapons. Guinevère knew that in order to keep from getting broken, they had to avoid the sword. Which was way when she moved back in for the attack, she was trying to stay out of his reach. Good thing it was a long stick.

Arthur was going to offer his hand to help her up, but she quickly stood up on her own. Good! She did not stay down long enough to become vulnerable. Hopefully, she would remain as quick and agile in battle. And that was when he noticed the difference between the stick and sword. She seemed to hesitate less with the stick. A stick could hurt someone no doubt -- when used properly -- but a sword, one blow and you could kill your attacker. "Guinevère, perhaps you should use a stick, rather than a sword in battle," he suggested, not sure if she was already intending on doing that.
He pointed to the stick with the tip of his sword. "You seem to be able to move more easily with it," he pointed out.

She looked down at it for a moment before looking back at him. "It's lighter, I do not feel as if it's heaver then my arms." She admitted, "I am not sure if that matters, a stick can not kill a man but . . . . . honestly, sire, I do not know if I could kill a man, even if his goal was to kill me." Maybe it was a weakness in battle, maybe even he would order her to sit out but Guinevère could NOT see it as a weakness in life. If she had to die, she would do so with her morals strong and her heart pure.
"Surely we will think of some other way to help. Maybe not armed combat but perhaps something just as important?" Maybe she could help distract men, if they road in on horses she could through rocks to unhorse them. Use her stick to help others in the fight. Something that would not cause her to kill, to take life.

Arthur completely understood her inability to kill a man. It was no sign of weakness; it was human. In fact, he would be more concerned if she was able to kill a man without an ounce of remorse. "It is not an easy thing to do, I can assure you of that." Arthur never forgot a single man he killed. It was haunting, even if they were threatening his life. He could not regret killing some of them though, as it was often to protect Camelot, or himself. "You do not have to kill him if you feel you can not. Just . . . knock him unconscious. I'm sure you can manage to do that," He said with half a smile as he was slightly teasing, but meant it at the same time.
Arthur thought for a moment, before finding an answer. "The only way he stand a chance is if we trap them. We must find a way to draw them all in the same circle, and then ambush them in an attack so that we'll have the advantage. Perhaps you could help with setting that trap up, and helping us to make it an effective one?" It was by no means a small task. It would take work, strategy, planning . . . and time was of the essence.
