"Telling you that you were equal to any knight of Camelot." That was his proof or the last thing he recalled? Either way it proved nothing. That moment, while one that only they were around for, was one that many knew of. "And that, I was proud of you." A cherished memory. One she loved.
"If that is your proof, then you need to think again. I spoke to my brother of that moment and it was over heard by Sir Gwaine. Everyone knows how he loves to talk. The man is amazing with a sword but he never quite did be able to keep silent, an not rush in head first." She loved her brother of her heart, and the teasing was good natured.
"If that is your last memory then you lie." She knew it, with in her heart. "You pull from my touch. My husband, even then in that moment, would have embraced it, and let me help him if he was confused." She admitted, "You do not touch the children you claim are yours, you withdraw from me and you will not even look at me now. . . . . . Arthur Pendragon is a loving father--especially with Anna, due to her birth--and I know how he is when he is lost and confused. He would not pull back from me."
"If you are going to lie to me, at least be honest about it. I will know if you lie. Who are you? What you done with my husband?"

It was not good enough, She was pressing for more answers; more proof. Claiming that her husband would not act this way. That he was lying. And . . . she was pushing him. He could feel the suppressed anger and pain building up inside of him. So much so that he hadn't even heard every word that she said. Otherwise, he would have questioned what she meant by the condition of Anna's birth. He could only focus on bits and pieces of her words . . . and she was slowly breaking down that withdrawn exterior he was trying to project. To prevent him from breaking down. "My husband, even then in that moment, would have embraced it, and let me help him if he was confused." Would he? Is that the man she saw? "He would not pull back from me." He couldn't bare this any longer, and against all better judgment . . .his wall had broken. "And what reason have you given him to let you comfort him? To let you be the one he seeks for help?" He no longer cared that she was armed, for the pain in his words and the meanings behind them caused him to fully drop his shield and walk forward as he continued to speak.
"Because I remember we were once engaged." A time that should have been of the utmost happiness. "Where I proposed to you and you accepted. Where we had festivities to celebrate our union built on love and trust." He was now standing directly in front of her, fitting for his next words. "And I remember seeing you the night before our wedding, in the arms of another man." Lancelot. Kissing him. Embracing him. Treating him as her love . . . when in less than 24 hours, she would have been his wife. "If the husband you speak of is how you describe, then perhaps you truly do not know the real Arthur Pendragon." Him. The real Arthur. Not the one who had somehow miraculously forgiven her, when everything was still so fresh in his mind. To the point that he was planning to marry another woman. And probably would . . . once he returned to the real world and not this cruel life he had entered. This painful reminder of all that he had lost.

"And what reason have you given him to let you comfort him? To let you be the one he seeks for help?" He dropped the shield but his words and surprised her enough to not raise the sword. not his words--his tone. The anger in his eyes. One she had not seen on over ten years. not since . . . .
"Because I remember we were once engaged." OH. She knew where this was going. "Where I proposed to you and you accepted. Where we had festivities to celebrate our union built on love and trust." They had taken his memory once. Had they really done it again? Put him back there. "And I remember seeing you the night before our wedding, in the arms of another man." Lancelot. "If the husband you speak of is how you describe, then perhaps you truly do not know the real Arthur Pendragon."
Goodness! They had done it again! Done this to her family again! She believed the anger she saw in his eyes, the hate he looked at her with. That she believed. That was her proof! They had taken more then ten years from him this time! Odin!? Had he dared?! "What is the last thing you remember?" She asked, "I really need to know." The rest of what he said she would deal with in a moment.

That was all she had to say?! This was surely a jest. This whole ridiculous life was a jest! She was asking him what the last thing he remembered was . . . and even in all his anger and pain, he could not be so spiteful to spit out the fact that he was going to marry another woman. That he had every intention to. That everything was set and . . . in a few days, Camelot would have a queen. And it would not be Guinevère. "Nothing that you need concern yourself with," he said in a tone, colder than he preferred to use with her. Yet, expected under the circumstances. Or well, the circumstances that he believed they were under. The current mindset he was in. "All I know is that I don't belong here. And that I need to get back to my real life. Not whatever cruel world this spell has put me under." Because he did not believe this was his future. It couldn't be. It was impossible.
He had banished her, and was engaged to Mithian. He would not have two children that carried his Guinevère's skin color and traits. No. This was not real, and he hated every moment he was forced to endure this torture. He wanted to go back. Back where he belonged. Not in a perfect life. "Every moment I am here, is a moment lost in my reality. And it is of paramount importance that I get back." So any help that she could give him . . . would be appreciated. Though he felt odd for asking something of her. Even if it was something that should be so easily asked and granted by someone that a person loved. Arthur had learned that night, just how one sided their love was.

"Nothing that you need concern yourself with," Her brows rose up with surprise at his words to her. Arthur had never spoken to her like that. Even when he told her she wasn't appropriate, he was gentle. This was colder, and . . . . something else. "All I know is that I don't belong here. And that I need to get back to my real life. Not whatever cruel world this spell has put me under." "Cruel?" She whispered repeating the world. He found himself happily married with a hand full of children and this was cruel? The words hurt, even as she knew he could not mean them. Whatever spell he was under made him think and feel these things.
"Every moment I am here, is a moment lost in my reality. And it is of paramount importance that I get back." He thought this was another place? Not his life but a dream? "Eleven years about you woke up in your mother's chambers and asked me what I was doing there. You had lost five years of your memory."
"I cannot tell you how much of your memory is gone, if you do not tell me what the last thing you remember is. Though I think I can guess from your words."

"Cruel?" Yes. Cruel. Because this was everything he had ever wanted, yet everything he could not have. It was a horrible reminder, and he needed to break free from it. When she went on to explain that so many years ago he had lost his memory . . . he paused, staring at her. His gaze going from anger and pain . . . to slight confusion. "I did not lose my memory," he protested. There was no way he could have for . . . he was to marry Mithian. There was nothing that was going to change that, as he was so set in doing it. "I'm just, in some strange alternate reality," he decided. Knowing, that it didn't sound too far fetched for when magic was involved . . . anything was possible.
"Believe me when I say, there is no possible way that I have lost my memory." Not since he remembered so clearly how determined he was to marry another woman. Not out of love of course . . . for he would never love another woman. But merely out of obligation. As his father had once instructed him, years ago. He had not forgotten how the last spell she had spoken of was broken . . . but he doubted this one could be broken the same way. As it was an entirely different enchantment. "Is it only Odin and Morgana who pose a threat to Camelot?" He asked, wondering who else could be responsible for such a thing . . . perhaps someone he had not considered. Someone who only made themselves known, in this world, as oppose to his real life.

"I did not lose my memory," But he did, and she could prove it. She WAS the proof of it. Her and four little children. "I'm just, in some strange alternate reality," "No, Arthur, it's not." "Believe me when I say, there is no possible way that I have lost my memory." He thought that of his life with her? Guinevère ignored everything else he said after that for she wanted him to believe her before they began sorting out trying to think of who was behind this and what was happening now.
Last time they had a plan, surely this time they did as well. "You banished me." She told him, recalling the fear of that time. Though not the guilt, the only guilt she felt was for not fighting harder and believing in her heart more to keep him from getting hurt. For she knew the truth now.
She had not betrayed her husband. Morgana and his uncle had put her under a spell. Arthur and her and learned the truth just months into their marriage. They had moved on from that time. "A month or two later, you freed the druids." She knew what happened during that time, not the details, but the major events. "After that you engaged yourself to a princess." That she knew a bit more about, for Mithian had shot her. The deer version of herself. "If you tell me what you last remember then I can know what they have taken from you and fill in the whole."
"This is not another life, Arthur. This is them taking your memories from. Of your children, of your kingdom . . . . of our marriage."

"You banished me." That, he remembered perfectly well. It was the most recent memory -- apart from Mithian of course. "A month or two later, you freed the druids." Yes. That too. Because of his actions that had caused harm to so many innocent civilians . . . he had done something long over due. "After that you engaged yourself to a princess." That . . . he didn't now she knew. But it didn't prove anything. It proved that whatever this spell was, was a good one. That whoever had created it, was exceptionally skilled. He looked at her, right into her eyes, knowing that the pain of everything was slowly resurfacing in his mind. "How . . . did I ever forgive you?" His words were not spoken in a cold tone, but one filled with emotion. Filled with sadness, devastation. She had crushed their dreams that night . . . no. His dreams. Not hers.
Her dreams had been made clear when she had longed for nothing more than Lancelot. His dreams, had been foolish. Naive. Presumptuous. He couldn't hold his gaze . . . it was too difficult. He turned around, taking a few steps forward -- away from her -- knowing that the sooner he told her the truth, the sooner he would be able to get out of here. "The last thing I remember is being engaged to Princess Mithian of Nemeth. We were to be wed in a matter of days." It was not easy telling her this, but it was nothing that she already didn't know. And in a way, that had made it easier to say. Taking a few additional moments, he turned back around to look at her, trying his best to keep the hurt from his eyes and voice. "Everything was set. Nothing could have changed my mind." Something had to have. Merlin? Had Guinevère . . . returned? Was that what happened? No. NO. He had not lost his memory. He didn't belong here. He belonged back to a darker and crueler world.

"How . . . did I ever forgive you?" He had forgiven her before they had learned the truth. Arthur married her, before they found his uncle's journals. Before they both knew that she was been loyal to him the whole time. That meant the world to her. "Only you can answer that, Arthur." She told him softly, knowing she could clear her name here and now but also know that he needed to be in a place to believe it before she could just hand him everything.
"The last thing I remember is being engaged to Princess Mithian of Nemeth. We were to be wed in a matter of days." So near the end. The hunting trip? "Everything was set. Nothing could have changed my mind." She knew he believed that, and she was grateful that he had. She could not imagine what might had happen should he had wed another.
She knew that she would have stayed in Eldor and never left. No matter if his uncle's army had been coming or not. "I do not know the details of that time, I wasn't there. I only know of what news came though out the kingdoms and from what you or Merlin spoke of. I know that you were to marry her, but then rather last moment you changed her mind. It was after the hunting the trip." When he found the ring and she was a deer and was shoot. After she was Helios' 'guest'.
"I can tell you what I know, but you would have to believe me."

After the hunting trip? That was set to happen tomorrow. It was tradition in the kingdom and Arthur could only too recently recall that he'd been quite surprised to find out that she hunted. And loved the sport of it. "No. That . . doesn't make sense. We had only just come back from the picnic. The hunting trip had not happened yet." He was thinking aloud, trying to piece things together. How could this be. Last time he had lost so many years of his memory . . . but this time . . . no. It was impossible. What could have possibly happened? "Did you come back? Is that what changed my mind?" She said she had not been there, but did she come later? Was it her presence that had convinced him not to marry Mithian? Wait! Why was he talking in terms of her telling him that he'd lost his memory.
He did not lose his memory. He had been very clear in where they stood. He didn't want to see her, ever again. Which was why he'd been so prepared to commit himself to another woman. "I can tell you what I know, but you would have to believe me." Arthur slightly shook his head. "I'm not meant to be here. This is . . . " Everything he'd ever wanted. "Not my life. Nor will it ever be." Not after what she'd done to him. Not after she'd betrayed him. How could they had found a way past that? He couldn't believe it. Though, deep deep deep DEEP down . . . he knew her words were difficult to dispute and fully dismiss.

"No. That . . doesn't make sense. We had only just come back from the picnic. The hunting trip had not happened yet." "A picnic?" Guinevère repeated, not having known the details of his time with the princess. She had assumed that it was political. That they went to dinners and hunting. Picnics were personal and.. . . And she had thought until this night that she had been the only one he had ever loosened up with and taken on a picnic. Now she knew she wasn't. "You liked her then?" The words were soft and out before she could hold them back. Guinevère thought back to what she knew of the once princess who was now a queen of another kingdom. She was very beautiful.
"Did you come back? Is that what changed my mind?" She had come back, but he had not known. Merlin had not given her away, at lest not for what she had told him. "Its a long story, Arthur, on that will be hard to tell you. If you believe me, about the the memory spell then you will remember, how to break the spell."
"I'm not meant to be here. This is . . . " This is? What? She braced her self for what he might say and how it might hurt her heart. Just because he didn't think he was hurting her didn't mean it wasn't breaking her heart, like knowing he had liked Mithian. That it wasn't strictly political for him. They had dates and . . . .
"Not my life. Nor will it ever be." That wasn't as bad as she had braced herself for. It still hurt but she could at least understand where he was coming from with his mind set and pain. He still thought that she betrayed him, and Guinevère knew she had not. "I am sorry you are feeling these things again. Whomever did this again will be dealt with once you get you memory back. Yet you must believe me Arthur, that this is your like and we married a few months after where your memory ends."

"A picnic?" Arthur paused. Judging from her tone . . . had he not told her that part? Probably not. He would have felt the same then as he did now: not wanting to say things out of spite and bitterness. "You liked her then?" In a way, but not a deep way. Not like how she had loved Lancelot. He had never chosen Mithian over Guinevère. He had just been surprised at how the princess turned out to be. Surprised, that he and her had so much in common, that they got along well. For the marriage had been proposed prior to ever meeting her. "I had no choice but to like her," he explained. He knew however that he could never truly love another . . . for he knew what true love was. And that was something that he could only ever feel for one person. Even if she did not return the sentiment. Even though her feelings had not been as deep as his were for her. "For the good of the kingdom," he added, though the words were not to justify his actions. He did not need to justify them. "You had made your choice that night Guinevère." A reminder. That she had been what destroyed their soon to be wedding; their soon to be life together.
"And I had to make mine." Marry Mithian. Establish peace between Nemeth and Camelot. Produce heirs. She spoke the words that had recently entered his mind . . .of how to break the spell. "This cannot be the same spell," he protested, though he knew he was slowly becoming to believe it . . . in his gut. Even if it had yet to surface and he had yet to acknowledge and accept that this was a memory loss spell. It didn't seem like it . . . because he didn't understand how things had so drastically changed for them. For the better. When he had been making a decision that would have eliminated all hope for a future with her. He looked to the side, as she continued to try and convince him that this was a memory spell. "It doesn't make sense," he reiterated, unable to say that enough. "This is not the life that you and I have, or could have." He had sent her away, and he was going to wed another! "Whoever sent me here . . . it is a cruel trick. How can, this be. How did we get married?" A somewhat rhetorical question, and yet wasn't at the same time. How did they get married. How did they work through . . . everything? He had broken her heart, and yet he ignored that? Dismissed it? Was he that naive? That foolish?

"I had no choice but to like her," So he did like her. That . . . . wasn't something she had known before. Guinevère had seen Arthur with political nobles, and even once with Elena where he tried to marry her. Somewhere int he back of Guinevère's mind that was how it had been. Political. "For the good of the kingdom," She nodded her head, but said nothing. She did not want to know more, while she knew it changed nothing over the years, that Arthur loved her and would always love her . . .
It reminded her of how much damage Morgana's spell had done that night wh--"You had made your choice that night Guinevère." Her head came up, but again she said nothing. Guinevère knew the truth, but decided in that moment, Arthur would need to find forgiveness in his heart again, before she could tell him of the spell. If the spell he was currently under lasted long enough for him to do such. Last time, a good woman had to die before Arthur could move past her actions. She prayed nothing of the sort had to happen again. "And I had to make mine."
"This cannot be the same spell," It was, for what else could it be. "It doesn't make sense," Not now, but it would. "This is not the life that you and I have, or could have." Was it so hard to believe they could have still gotten everything they had wanted? "Whoever sent me here . . . it is a cruel trick. How can, this be. How did we get married?"
"Is it really so hard to believe that this is your life?" She asked softly, "That even with everything that has be between us, that love would be stronger then hate?" Morgana's hate. "This might not be the life you think you want, but I have reason to believe you are happy. We have a a life together, a strong kingdom and the most wonderful children in the world. . . . . "

"Is it really so hard to believe that this is your life?" Yes. It was. "That even with everything that has be between us, that love would be stronger then hate?" While he had believed that their love was stronger than anything, that night had shown that her love for Lancelot, was stronger than her love for him. She told him that he was happy, and he didn't know how that could be. What circumstances caused them to find themselves in each others arms once more? "It is extremely difficult to believe that this is my life," he answered, not quite thinking of how the words could hurt her. For he was only being honest. "I never hated you Guinevère." He could never truly hate her . . . so the words she spoke of, love being stronger than hate, where inapplicable.
"I just don't understand why you would place yourself in a life that you clearly had not wanted." If she had truly wanted this, then they would have been married the first time. Then she would not have sought out Lancelot. Then there would have been no heartbreak and betrayal between them. The thought of him forcing her in this life . . . sickened him. Yet he had similar thoughts in the past, when she had chosen another above him. He knew she would never do it for title, position or wealth . . . he had always known that when Lancelot was not there, Arthur was. Had Lancelot been alive . . . then Arthur did not doubt that she would have found a life for him. The first man she had fallen in love with. "And I am no better, for whatever I said to coerce you in such a life." What had he said to her? Had he pressured her? Had he pulled her toward him? Had he once again ignored her true feelings for put his own selfish desires above hers?

"It is extremely difficult to believe that this is my life," She sucked in a deep breath, knowing that he would not always feel so. Knowing that he had grown past these emotions did not mean they did not hurt some when hearing them now. "I never hated you Guinevère." "I know." It had not been his hate that she spoke of. It had been his sister's. His uncle's. Their hate for anything Pendragon. Well, anything that wasn't Morgana with power.
"I just don't understand why you would place yourself in a life that you clearly had not wanted." Not want? This had been her dream since . . . since forever almost. "And I am no better, for whatever I said to coerce you in such a life." Guinevère had often wondered what might had happened had she stayed, now she was almost glad he had sent her away for a while. So she would not have heard these things when it would have broken her.
"I wish you would have more faith in me." She whispered, "Like you once did, and like you do in this time." Yet she knew why it was shaken now. "You are putting one night above five years of memories. Look in your heart, Arthur. You will find whatever truths you need there. For until you can accept the truths I bring you, I can give you none." Meaning she would not be telling him about their lives together. "If you wish to know something about your kingdom, then ask it. If you wish to let me break the spell, then you know how it will be done." A kiss.
"But I will not defend your own life to you. You are happy! We are happy! They have taken you back to a time when you are hurt, and I am sorry for what they have done to you. . . . but I cannot bare to to hear you speak these things."
"Even after all these years. Your heart will know the truth. All you have to do is believe it."

"I wish you would have more faith in me." Had he not seen it with his own eyes, he never would have believed Guinevère would have been capable of such a thing. But he had seen it . . . so how could she ask him to have faith in them? When it was so shattered by her own actions, and her own desires. As he once did. Yes. True. He did have faith in her, in a way he still did. But not so much as in them. For if he had hope for them . . . he would not be marrying another woman. In the real world. Not his falsified version. "You are putting one night above five years of memories." Five years. Most of which they spent in the absence of Lancelot. The first time he had returned, she'd chosen him. The second time, she had remained close to Arthur. But the third time . . . made Arthur doubt her sincerity in the second. He wanted to believe that they'd been happy, more than anything. But, a woman who was happy in her current relationship, did not sneak around at night to be in the arms of another man. How was that happiness? Clearly, there was something lacking in their relationship.
"If you were so happy with me Guinevère, then explain to me that night. If you don't want me to doubt our years together, then tell me why you did what you did." A reason. One he had demanded from her that night, yet all she could say was that she was drawn to him. "Every decision I have made with my heart, has cost something." He had believed in his heart that not all those with magic were evil . . . and it cost the life of his father. He had let his heart cloud his better sense, and been totally oblivious to Morgana. And he had let his heart be consumed with his love for Guinevère, and it ended it pain for them both, and also cost the life of another man. No. This was why Arthur needed to rule more with his mind. Which was why he was going to marry Mithian. Not because his heart told him it was the right thing to do, but because logic and rationality dictated that this was expecting of a king. And he needed to start acting like a king, before someone else got hurt or ended up dead. "They have sent me to a world that serves a painful reminder of what I, we have lost." He paused, his eyes finding hers.
"But it was not their actions that are the true source of the pain." It was Guinevère and Lancelot's. And he had banished her because he felt he would never be able to move past this loss. He just wanted to break this spell. He wanted to get on from this. He didn't want to talk about such things with her . . . nor did he think he would be able to kiss her and break the spell. But . . . if that was what it took . . . "I need to break this spell," he told her, taking another small step toward her. He would not be proud of this, and he did not their kiss to be one of necessity . . . but if it was took him out of this realm, then so be it. Standing not directly in front of her, he made no secret of his hesitation, not bothering to conceal it. "Neither of us can bare the weight in this world." Her of hearing him speak this way . . . him of seeing her. "I do not know if this will work, but will you let me try?" To have to ask her permission for a kiss . . . just felt bizarre in so many ways. But needed. For they were not together any more. They had separate lives, and who knew if their paths would ever cross again.

"If you were so happy with me Guinevère, then explain to me that night. If you don't want me to doubt our years together, then tell me why you did what you did." "You are not ready to hear my answers." She told him, "When you are, and I know you will hear them with your heart and not the painful thoughts in your head then I will tell you everything you wish to know."
"Every decision I have made with my heart, has cost something." "No, you only see what you have lost! You are not seeing what you have gained! You have built a kingdom on following your heart. You have friends, brothers, a wife, children . . . even if you wish to only think of things you remember, you followed a friend to Eldor to fight for people who could not fight for themselves, you stopped a war between us and Carleon, you freed a race of peaceful people, protected your people, stopped ghost, and defeated an immortal army with a handful of men! . . . . And that is only what you did in a handful of years! You are only seeing the the hurt, Arthur. You are only seeing that night. You need to look at the years of good. There will be more hope, and faith and . . . . everything you need in them."
"They have sent me to a world that serves a painful reminder of what I, we have lost." "I have lost nothing. This is my life. My good life, in which I have everything I have wanted for 15 years. My life is built on love, and if you just give it a chance, you will see yours is as well."
"But it was not their actions that are the true source of the pain." Yes, it was. He only did not know it yet. And Guinevère would say nothing to tell him other wise. "I need to break this spell," Yes, he did. "Neither of us can bare the weight in this world." "I can. It's only yours words that I cannot bare."
"I do not know if this will work, but will you let me try?" Kiss her? "You can not bare to look at me, but you wish to kiss me to escape me?" She asked slowly. Blinking back the tears that wanted to fall she stepped backwards. "The last time you lost your memory, I did not tell you who I was to you. I came to regret it." Yet now, she could see that she would make the same choice again.
"I do not know what is coming our way, but my kisses are for my husband and he alone. When you believe that you could be he. That there is a chance of forgiveness in your heart, then I will kiss you the greatest kiss there ever was. Until then, I will raise the guard in the castle, and have the knights begin looking for anyone whom might not belong." But she would not kiss him. "Then we shall begin catching you up enough to hunt down the men who wished to harm you."
