.:History:.
After taking over Camelot by force, Uther married Ygraine de Bois, making the woman his queen. However, he soon realised she was unable to concieve, and turned to a trusted friend and ally, Nimeuh. Desperate for an heir, Uther blindly agreed to allow Nimeuh to use magic to help his wife concieve, forgetting to ask about the consequences.
Ygraine died in giving birth to their son, Arthur, fufilling the rules of magic, which claimed that for a life to be given, a life had to be taken. Grief-ridden, the King turned against Nimeuh, accusing her of treason. He banished her from his kingdom, whilst Ygraine's brother threatened justice on Uther, believing him responsible for his sister's death.
After killing his wife's brother in a duel, Uther ordered those he believed to be associated with magic to be executed, hoping to relieve the guilt he felt over his wife's death. That time period was known thereon as "the Great Purge", and earned the King many enemies, both magical and not. The King banned magic outright from his kingdom, and refused to speak of Ygraine again.
Before the Purge, the King also had a brief romance with his best friend's wife, Vivienne, resulting in the birth of Morgana. They agreed to allow Gorlois to believe that the child was his, rather than Uther's. When Gorlois died in battle after the King refused to send reinforcements, the King then took the child Morgana into his care.
Uther's reign taught all those who lived in Camelot to fear magic, and those who were born of magic were taught to flee for their lives, for there would be no justice for them. The King's grief and anger turned on magic, and he soon convinced himself that the reason for Ygraine's death had been magic, not his own blindness.
The King's only joy was his son, Arthur. However, despite the fact that he deeply cared for the boy, the man was not the best at showing his affections, and often prooved a stern father to Arthur, belittling him as a child and forcing him to do better as he grew up. He often seemed displeased with Arthur, though in truth he was often simply unsure how to show his affections.| ~ • ~ | Sample Post | ~ • ~ |
The King of Camelot walked with slow precision toward the dungeons. It had not been easy; to break in Arthur was somethat that required time and patience, for his son was, in all things, unruly, and often went against the King. Nevermind that he had been trying to protect someone; that was not what Uther Pendragon cared about.
He could not allow his son to become complacent; no King of Camelot could be. Arthur would learn this, in time. His son had a big heart, and it was something that Uther much admired in his son; but it was something that could not be encouraged. For there were those who woudl take advantage of his son, and use Arthur's innocence against him. But until such a time when wisdom ruled over his heart... the Prince had to learn that one could not befriend those that they ruled over.
Uther stepped toward the cell, his hands behind his back, as he glared down at the image of his son in chains. "I hope, Arthur, that you have learned your lesson." He stated calmly.
