.:Name of Character:. Merlin
.:Nick Name:. Emrys, Dragoon
.:Age:. 20
.:Race:. Dragonlord
.:Status:. Servant| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:.Merlin is rather tall, reaching around six foot three inches. Which makes him just a bit taller than Arthur, which he is quite proud of himself. However, he doesn't look like much. He's not as big, stocky, or muscly as the rest of the males around him. He's actually quite thin, the only muscle really on him there because of how active he has to be, what with being Arthur's servant. His eyes are a pale blue-grey. However, when he's using magic, his eyes change to a golden, almost glowing, colour. Other than that, his hair is rather short, and a bit curled. In certain lighting it appears darker than it really is, at times seeming to be a shade of black. In reality though, his hair is a mid-dark brown. It doesn't go over his ears, but it comes down to his lower neck in the back, and is kept cut close to the head.
His wardrobe isn't the most impressive of things. He wears simple clothes, which almost always consists of a navy blue shirt and a brown jacket. This is accompanied by a vivid red cloth-necktie. This is his general outfit, occasionally mixed up or switched out for something a bit more comfortable, usually when traveling.
.:Height:. 6'3"

.:Personality:.Merlin can be summed up, at least to a point, in a few words. Brave, honourable, modest, compassionate, intelligent, naive... All of these contribute to his personality, which is rather more complicated than that. His bravery comes from what one could even call stupidity. He gets his random moments of courage where despite the fact that what he may be doing is completely wrong, he does it anyway. The only thinking he uses during this is thinking about how to succeed in it, not what the consequences might be in the future. He believes as long as it helps now, and it's doing the right thing, later can be worried about then, later.
He's also rather modest, in a sense. Or you could even say humble. He does like to take pride in his successes - which he would kindly love to point out to Arthur even if the man didn't believe him - but even he knows that most of the time, he couldn't have done everything by himself. He is also compassionate, his caring for his friends going further than anything else. He would do anything for his friends, including sacrificing his own life. His loyalty may be, in questioning, Camelot, but it truly lies with those he holds dear.
Merlin carries a certain intelligence that at times surpasses his own age. This comes from his understand, and compassion, and his natural skill in magic. Having been born with it, and grown up his entire life learning to deal with it, he understands the difficulties others go through, even if they don't possess magic themselves. He is a fast learner, most of his magical training having been completed alone and in only a few years since he came to Camelot. His abilities already far exceed others who have trained decades to reach that point. Of course being born with it certainly helped.
However, he's also quite naive. At times even he - despite the fact that he likes to 'make fun of' Arthur for being such - has his moments. Sometimes the obvious just slips right past him. He's also followed by foolishness at times, once again contributing to not thinking before he acts. Or using magic at times that he probably really shouldn't, but does so on a split moment's thought, or just because he doesn't want to do something by hand. He has a habit of trying to see the good in everyone, no matter who they are or how anyone else perceives them. He wants to be able to save them from themselves. He has been warned before that this could be his undoing.
He also has a sense of humour. He can entertain himself easily, to the point where he likes to come up with witty remarks usually directed at the Prince, or remarks that no one else but him gets. He enjoys calling Arthur a wide array of nicknames, including clotpole, dollop-head, prat and various others.

.:Magic Abilities:.
Merlin was born with a natural gift for magic. He learns quick and fast, able to learn even powerful spells in a short amount of time, whereas it would take others years or decades even to learn them. His magic developed from his birth, where he had no training. He has multiple natural abilities, such as being able to slow down moving objects, telekinesis, and others.
He has many skills, those of which grow in strength the older he gets and the more he learns. His spells have grown more powerful since he first moved to Camelot. His magical instincts have grown stronger as well, to where he can sense things that normally others could not. He can even turn himself into an older version of himself - whom he has aptly named Dragoon (the Great).
Merlin is also Dragonlord, the last one, able to control dragons if he so wishes. The ability is hereditary, passed down from his father.
.:Special Skills:.
Other than his numerous skills in magic (listed above), Merlin is skilled in a few other things. These include cleaning various objects - he knows how to do them by hand, but he does rather prefer to do it with magic -, being a target dummy, being a pack mule, pretending to be a complete and utter idiot at times, and many more that he doesn't care to list.
.:Accents:.
English; it carries a bit of a heavier tone, showing that it's "most likely" he's of a lower class.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Ealdor
.:Family:. Mother: Hunith. Father: Balinor, deceased. Adopted Father: Gaius.
.:Occupation:. Arthur's Manservant.
.:Current Location of Residence:. Camelot
.:History:.
It started during Uther's Great Purge, where anyone with magic was being prosecuted and killed. Balinor, a Dragonlord, was one of these such people, despite the fact that he helped Uther with chaining Kilgharrah far beneath Camelot. Gaius was against this, and he secreted out Balinor, hiding him in a village known as Ealdor within Essetir, with one of his close friends. Hunith took the man in, and after time, the two fell in love. At one point they had a child, which would later be named Merlin. However, Uther soon found out about Balinor's location, and the man was forced to flee to protect his wife, never knowing that he had a son.
Merlin was born with magic, and grew up with it in Ealdor. He never knew anything about his father, or who he was. He never even knew that he was a Dragonlord, nor that he himself was. His mother didn't tell him anything about that, so they never talked about the past, despite Merlin's curiosity. He grew up, trying not to let his magic get him in trouble. He became close friends with another boy named William. Throughout their childhood, they remained best friends.
At one point, his mother sent him to Camelot, to be received under their Court Physician's wing. She hoped that Gaius would be better able to teach him to control his magic, despite how dangerous that that would be inside the capital.

Morgana had taken over Camelot, revealing herself and her magic to everyone. They had been forced to leave it all behind, leave behind loved ones, leave behind friends. And it was all because of her. Her greed had taken over her heart and coated it in ice. She was pushing everyone who thought of her as a friend away, and Merlin knew it was his fault. If he had just found another way to end it, had just found another way instead of poisoning her. He never even expected her to live, but she did, and now everything was going to ruin a year later.[/blockquote]
But they were going to get it back. They were going to save Camelot this very day. In fact, that's why they were all here, hiding in the trees right outside of the walls of Camelot. From their position, you could see guards on the walls, patrolling. They looked like the normal guards, so whether or not they would raise an alarm if they saw them or not was one question. It couldn't be risked though, and so they remained hidden.
Yet Merlin found himself shaking. He wasn't scared, not in the slightest. He knew that they would succeed and save Camelot. He had a plan after all, one that no one else but Lancelot knew, but he had a plan. No, he was shaking because he knew they would win. He was shaking because he believed in Arthur, and knew that this was a changing point in history."I'm trembling..." he said quietly.
The Prince looked at him, responding that he was as well. "But I don't feel scared," Merlin added. "I feel that this day was foretold. That...no matter what we face... Arthur this is the beginning of a new Camelot, and you're leading us to it." He had complete faith in the Prince, in his friend.
Yes, Morgana would fail; and he could feel that it was happening. He knew that Arthur would become a great king, whether that be today, or in the near future.
