Guinevère stood, so she could look over the top of his head and reached up to finish untwisting the two she missed. "Your lucky that you managed to keep all your hair during that." she teased him, knowing that the girls could not have done much then give him a headache from tying it too tight.
Their grandmother had done her hair in a braid, with the sides twisted along the side of her head to keep strays from coming out. Guinevère knew it was a style the noble women often worn, for you needed someone to work on your hair for a while before it looked thus. She wondered now, if that was why the elder woman did this style, or if she was trying to help her keep from having it a mess on the morrow. Stepping back she spoke softly, "Now you look like yourself again. Or your morning self." she jested, "Before Merlin's cleaned you up."

Arthur couldn't agree more. He wasn't sure what they had done to it, nor had he been paying any attention to all the pulling they had done. He'd suffered worse pain than that. "I told them that the condition was that they were not permitted to bring any sharp objects near it." At least they hadn't yanked any off. When she stepped back, and informed him that it was done, Arthur rose to his feet and looked around the room for a moment. Still nothing that could serve as a make shift mirror. He should have asked for his sword back. He ran his hand through his hair, trying to ruffle it down a bit. It would have to do until morning.
"Caught in a storm, handled by children; my poor hair has been through enough trauma," he said with kidding exaggeration. "Unlike yours," he said with a smile, not having been blind to the style Eva had done on her hair. He wondered if that was how she did his mother's. If so, then he loved it even more. He stepped towards Guinevère and gently touched one of the braids before drawing his hand back, still smiling with approval. Guinevère was looking more and more like the queen she would one day soon be.

Guinevère smiled up at him when he stood, and felt him touching her hair. "She was kind to offer to do that for me. It would have taken me almost an hour longer then her to do something with it. I know I should cut it, but . . . . " She liked it. She had enjoyed her shorter hair, but this last year she had let it grow longer and enjoyed the styles she could do with longer hair.
Speaking however, of Eva. "I can not believe that of all the farms in the kingdom, we found this one." One were someone had known his mother! Reaching over to put her hand on his arm she looked up at him. She wanted to ask if he was alright but could not quite manage to do it. She wanted so badly for the answer to be yes. That he was healing finally just enough to be able to speak of her on rare times.

Whether her hair was short or long, Arthur still found her beautiful. "You don't need to." She shouldn't cut it if she didn't want to. This was the longest he had seen her hair in years -- he could not say ever, for he didn't remember if she ever had it this long in her childhood. When Guinevère then brought up the coincidence of coming to this farm, Arthur had had those exact same thoughts. That somehow, fate had led them here . . . to this particular area. "It is an absurd coincidence," he agreed, speaking aloud his own thoughts. "Not necessarily a bad one though," he added. He had gotten something from here that he would not have gotten from anywhere else; and that was such an intimate telling of his mother. Stories of her, that no one else would know about. Or if they did, Arthur did not know of them.
Except Eva. He put his hand on Guinevère's which was placed on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze, knowing the look in her eyes. The concern she felt. "I'm fine," he answered with a soft smile, knowing she had been worried for him when the subject came to his mother. He found it still slightly unsettling . . . but he could not regret hearing such kind words about his mother. It had been unexpected and uncomfortable, but it had warmed his heart to hear Eva speak so highly of her. Not just as queen, but as the compassionate woman that she was. He gently pulled away, only to remove his sword belt, in attempt to get ready for bed . . . and to avoid the subject going to his mother. "If I did learn one thing today, it is that I am not capable of calling you Gwen," he said jokingly, though it had an element of seriousness to it for his inability to call her by her nickname, was part of what had given them away.

She was glad he was alright, and even smiled and shook her head softly when he said he could not call her Gwen. "Once, I might have been displeased with that, but I find I enjoy it too much to be displeased. I fear my subltness has not grown. I still gave us away." she had not been able to not talk about with without her eyes filled with love.
His hand was covering her's so she did not remove it, find comfort in his touch--even when there was nothing to be comforted from. "I am glad she was able to tell who you are. That she shared these things with you about your mother." He needed better memories of her then just her death. She wanted him to build them, and find love in them.

Arthur recalled her having told him that she had thought he'd called her by her full name to annoy her. But it had always been because he liked the sound of her full name, and that he felt it was an easier way to get her attention. He had tried Gwen once in Ealdor, and she had not stopped walking. Even in the courtyard when the dragon was upon her, it had been her full name that caught her attention. "I seem to only to get your proper attention when I call you by your full name," he said, explaining his logic. One in addition to just the simple fact that he liked how her whole name sounded. "I fear my subtleness has not grown. I still gave us away." "I was not very subtle either," he admitted. "But I do not think it is something bad," he added. For it meant that they could not just suddenly pretend not to love each other, or not care for each other.
His failed attempt his masking his feelings for her in the past had been what gave him away so many times, to different people. He stayed in place as she spoke about how she was glad Eva was able to tell who he really was, if only to share memories about his mother. The subject he was trying to avoid, but he would shun no subject with Guinevère. He stayed silent for a few moments, and just slowly nodded his head, unsure of what to say on such an emotional subject. "Thank you, for asking the questions I could not bring myself to speak." For it had been Guinevère who inquired about his mother, while he'd remained silent. A shocked silence.

Guinevère took the bed he had removed earlier and hung it up on a nail that was not put in all the way to keep it from getting on the floor and someone tripping over it. She knew once the candles went out then it would be hard to see. She also knew that since they were int he back of the house that it would be cooler then the front of the house.
At least she had him to hold her close in case she got cold. Reaching up to unlace her corset she replied, "Proper attention? I do not recall ignoring you." She knew what he meant however, sometimes she rambled and he it took more to get her to stop. As for his mother, "I wanted to know about her too. Besides, Eva seemed to be able to see her as more then the other servants. As a person and not a title. I wanted to know what she was like, not just how she showed herself tot he world."
"I think I would have liked her."

"Proper attention? I do not recall ignoring you." Arthur looked at her. Just happening to glance in the moment she was unlacing her corset. "Really?" He asked with playful sarcasm. "Ealdor is just one example of such a time." He was not likely to forget anything about her after that day, for it had been the first time she stepped out of the background. And since then, she had never blended back into the crowd; not in his eyes anyway. Besides, it was a better example than the one in the courtyard where the dragon was upon them. "I find that most of the time, Gwen does not quite capture your attention. So therefore, I've resorted to Guinevère. It does its job," he said smiling.
He sat on the edge of the bed to remove his boots. The blankets they were given was just a thin sheet, and with her cloak and his coat still drying, they would not have too much for warmth. "Will you be warm enough tonight?" He asked, knowing he had suggestively said she would be before, but now was asking with sincere curiosity. He would take his shirt off to offer to her if she got too cold. This time, she would be wearing it for the purpose of warmth rather than . . . other reasons. He turned his attention back to his boots when the subject of his mother continued. He shared her same curiosity. His father had never spoken of her, and he knew that out of all people that knew her, he would have known her the best. But now, he had found another woman who knew her as a friend; as someone who was close to her.
"I think I would have liked her." He paused, hearing this, feeling a soft smile form on his lips at her saying she would have liked his mother. He turned his head to look at Guinevère. "I think, she would have loved you." Not as a servant, but as a daughter. Hearing her attitude towards servants, he felt -- or felt he had to believe -- that she would not have been so opposed to him following his heart. Would she had been proud of him? He couldn't say. But from what Eva had told them, he felt it safe to say that she would not have been entirely against Guinevère. Not in the way his father had been.

"Ealdor is just one example of such a time." She laughed softly at his words but spoke up quickly to defend her self, while making sure to keep her voice low enough to to wake other up. "I was nervous, and you were intimating, and up until that point had not even been speaking to me." She told him with a smile, "You can not blame a girl for worrying she might have crossed you in the wrong way."
And then he asked, "Will you be warm enough tonight?" as he removed his boots. Her shoes were but slippers, and she would remove them before going to bed. Something about their shoes beside each others by the end of the bed was very nice for her to think of. Very domestic. "I will if I am in your arms." She knew that his body heat would keep her warm in the chill.
"I think, she would have loved you." She could not reply, for she only could stare at him with a soft smile on her lips. Arthur saying this before, had been nice but after hearing about his mother and him saying it now . . . it was special and wonderful. "As she would have loved you, and have been so proud."

Arthur smiled at her defense, enjoying teasing her about such a moment that seemed in the far distant past. Yet still clear in his memory. "I see, so I was less intimidating in a crowd then?" He asked, referring to her standing up to him for the woman's right to fight when they had all been in the small house, speaking of tomorrow's plans. "I would have thought I'd be less intimidating standing on my own in the middle of the woods," he joked, teasing her logic of the situation. He understood her reasons for having been nervous. She was right. He had never spoken to her much in the past. Something that he deeply regretted, and something he would continue to try and make up for.
"I will if I am in your arms." Arthur liked this answer, very much so. "Well it is the duty of any husband to make sure their wife does not feel cold during the night," he said, still loving how those terms sounded; enjoying referring to themselves in such a way. Once his boots were off, he brought his feet up on the bed, as if testing its softness . . . or hardness rather. He moved back a bit, sitting up with his back against the wall and his feet spread in front of him. At least the comfort of a bed was not something Arthur had high standards for. He was used to sleeping on the floor, for when having to make camp during a journey, they would lie on the cold -- sometimes -- wet ground. So this was not something that would make him feel the loss of his bed back home. Especially if he was able to lie next to Guinevère. His eyes found hers once more when she commented about his statement of belief.
"As she would have loved you, and have been so proud." He believed the first; that she would have loved him, just having heard of her loving nature. But he was uncertain about the second. Would she be proud of some of his decisions? Perhaps. Ones such as marrying Guinevère, knighting commoners . . . but not ones that had cost him the lives of so many others; of his own father. So he said nothing in response to this, not wanting to have to convince him that she would be proud of all he had done. He held his hand out to her. "Come to bed," he said, not with suggestive meaning. But just to hold her, and allow themselves to be at ease.

"I see, so I was less intimidating in a crowd then? I would have thought I'd be less intimidating standing on my own in the middle of the woods," She smiled at him and folded her arms as if she was getting defensive but in truth she was fighting to keep from laughing. "There are witnesses in public." She teased, KNOWING he would never hurt anyone for speaking their mind to him. 'Besides, you know how my anger is. Sometimes I speak with out thinking. Like I did there."
She had wanted Morgana to step up and speak up but she would not, and the others would not. In the end, and with no planning she had stepped up and spoken for the women. "Come to bed," He held out his hand before he spoke, and she smiled and took it. Walking over to sit on the bed, and reach down to remove her shoes. She put them beside his boots as she had thought about a moment go. There. perfect. So manly and womanly at the same time. "Try not to snore." She teased him, knowing he had only done it that once.

Arthur chuckled when she jokingly remarked on how there were witnesses there, knowing it was all made as a joke. And that she didn't actually believe he would have done something to her in a surge of anger. "Well either way, I am glad you did speak your mind. In all the times you did." There, later when he was on his deathbed, when he was at her home, when Gaius was about to burn . . . all those instances she had spoken to him with full honesty. When she took his hand and sat on the bed to take off her shoes, he shifted to the side a bit so that she would have more room, reaching over for the think sheet that would be their blanket, getting ready to put it over them when she lay down. "Try not to snore." He made a face at this.
"I do not snore," he protested, just as he always would when she accused him of this. "Even if I did, and that is a huge unrealistic if," he began to say, emphasizing the fact that he still firmly believed that he did not snore. "I would think you'd have gotten used to it by now." Considering all the nights they spend together, sometimes just sleeping rather than engaging in other intimate activities. Surely if he snored, she wouldn't be getting any sleep at all!

Guinevère liked knowing that she could speak her mind around him. Knowing that he welcomed it and really took her words rather then ignore her or dismiss her ideas because they were from a woman. That he honored and valued her ideas, even if they often came from a servant's point of view rather then once he was more used to hearing. Sometimes she worried her views were not what he needed to hear, even if they were what he wanted to hear.
Arthur was so much more worldly then her in everything. He'd seen places she never would, and done things she would not even dream of doing. He could move at ease in any context of an situation. He was more repaired then she ever would be for the life they would lead. There was even the girls of his past that she worried about. Ladies from his past that he's entertained relations with.
She smiled up at him when he talked of her getting used to his sounds, knowing that it had only been him unused to how the beds held a person. "Very used to it, It give me comfort to know your near." She told him before crawling under the blankets, and wondering about how things will change.

When she slipped under the covers, Arthur put one arm around her from behind to pull her closer to him. He slid down a bit more so he was seated less upright, but still on his back as he moved her as close to him as possible. Not only for warmth, but because he found tremendous comfort in her company as well. There was no other woman he would rather hold. No other woman he'd rather have lying next to him. No other woman he would rather have in his chambers at night. No other woman he would ever love. Thinking of all that she meant to him, he turned his head to the side to kiss the top of her head. He loved her so much and expressing such words were always difficult for him. For they never held the magnitude he wished for them to. Some men spouted poetry, some sang songs . . . Arthur could only speak from his heart, and even then, it was so difficult.
It was because his relationship with Guinevère was deeper than with any other woman. Because it was not lust that drew them together, but something far deeper. Far more impacting. Something that consumed his body, soul and heart. "I love you," he said in a soft voice, with strong sincerity. He did not say it so that one thing could lead to another; he said it because he felt he did not say it enough. He wanted her to know every day how much he loved her; how much he valued her; how much he cared about her. With other women it had been easier to compliment them, before it had never been a strongly deep relationship. But with her, he always felt strangely frazzled and flustered. As if he was not sure how to say the words he wanted; for they were so strong. Beyond compare.

Guinevère felt him pull her closer and smiled softy, letting her body aline with his as they cuddled under the blankets. Sung and warm and safe from the storm, she let the sounds of his breathing lull her into sleep rather quickly. It was amazing how something so simple as breathing could be the perfect sound, especially mixed in with the rain. The roof at least did not leak, and while the blanket that hung up gave them a room alone, it blocked out the heat of the fire.
She did not even mind. I love you, She heard him speak and smiled against him, "I love you too." she whispered back, spooning closer to him for both warmth and because she just loved being there. Right as she fell asleep, she was still smiling softly. Feeling loved as the . . . . snuggled tightly together.

He kept his arms around her, slowly closing his eyes. A part of him felt a bit on guard and on edge, for he did not have his sword nearby should something happen. He always felt less protected without it and never thought he would be able to get a good night's sleep without having a weapon by his side. But with Guinevère in his arms, how could he not sleep so well? He allowed himself to drift, taking solace in the fact that he was a light sleeper and if something happened, he would be jolted awake. But he did not need to worry about such a thing. For he slept soundly for the entire night.
It was a dreamless sleep; a very peaceful one. It may have been cold in the room -- or house rather -- but he felt warm. Completely comfortable. He awoke the feeling a general brightness to the room, meaning the sun was out. But he did not open his eyes to fully check. He was far too cozy to do such a thing. So while his mind was slowly awakening, his eyes remained shut, not yet wanting to leave his life as John the Wood Cutter, and return to being King Arthur Pendragon.

Guinevère's dreams had been pleasant, but she had woken up wit the sun. She kissed his forehead very softly, and slipped out of bed slowly, doing her bed not to wake him (or if she did wake him that he would not be woken enough to do more then acknowledge in his mind that she was up). She found Maggie in the main room , over the stone that served as the kitchen and offered to help cook.
Guinevère liked to cook, but wasn't really as good as others who cooked often. Most her meals were easy things, or stews. Since the weather was cold, they were cooking a morning stew for John and the girls to drink near the fire. It had some potatoes in it, and carrots and some other unidentified veggie. "I think it's about done," She told Maggie, so she could bring the cups and bowels over to be filled and then taken back to the table.

Arthur was not sure if he was awake or asleep, but when he did open his eyes, he noticed Guinevère was not at his side any more. He could hear movement in the other room, the curtain not being thick enough to block out the noise. It was definitely a good thing that they had only slept last night. Arthur's eyes shot open and he abruptly sat up. He had nearly forgotten where he was, and when the realization hit him of having to return to the kingdom, he quickly got out of bed. He put his boots on, as well as his belt. Thanks to the lack of mirrors, he just ran his hand through his hair, trying to tame it a bit so that it would not look like such a disaster. When he was as ready as could be, he went into the main room, where he saw Maggie and Guinevère cooking, and setting the table.
"Thank ye," she said to Guinevère as she brought the bowls over and waited for Guinevère to fill them before she carried them back to the table, now noticing the other presence in the room. "Perfect timin' John!" She said to him. Arthur politely smiled in return. "Breakfast is served! I best get Odo," she said as she wiped her hands on her apron and went to their room. Arthur took this opportunity to walk over to the table, peer into the bowl, and then look back at Guinevère. He did not make an expression of disgust though. "We should head back soon," he told her, knowing that everyone would be highly concerned about the missing king and two riderless horses entering the city -- if they even made it back to the city.

Guinevère waited until Maggie was out of the room to go wake Odo, before looking at the two girls who were not looking their way. Taking the moment to place a hand on his chest and lean up to kiss him, she spoke softly hoping no others would over hear. "Good morning. You should eat first. It will warm you before we go out in the cold."
'The rain stopped, and the wind is mostly gone but the morning is very cold." She had not gone out, but looked out the open door to see what the world was like. it had nearly chilled her right back into bed with him. "Do you think everyone is looking for us?" For him. The new king and in uncertain times, they would worry if Merlin had not covered for them.

When she kissed him -- a good morning kiss -- he softly smiled. "Good morning to you too," he said, returning the greeting. He was not sure he could eat anything, but he knew he had to if he was going to keep up his strength for the walk back to the city. He would need to get something in his stomach and . . . even if he was not used to this taste, it was better than nothing. "Do you think everyone is looking for us?" The exact concern he had, that had caused him to quickly get out of bed. "I'm sure Merlin has told them something." For he had told Merlin where he was going, having to explain why he could not come with him. Sometimes that man worried too much about him.
