.:Name:. Nimueh O'Liathan .:Nick Name:. Only when she's pretending to be someone else .:Status:. .:Age:. appears 25, but how old is she really? Old enough to have seen Uther as a young man or even the generation before him
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Nimueh has chocolate brown hair she usually wears in an intricate pattern of several braids of various length and thickness. Her eyes are blue and can either appear innocent like the blue sky or hard and unforgiving like steel. Never trust those eyes when they smile at you, because what lies behind them is her secret alone. Figure-wise Nimueh is slender on the edge of well-proportioned and she knows well how to make use of this fact, especially getting men to do what she wants. Beauty of course lies in the eye of the beholder, but many certainly would give Nimueh a second glance, with her pale skin and slightly alien looking gowns she wears when not posing as someone else.
Just like her eyes, her whole appearance can vary if she wants it, it is easy for her to either stick out or fit in, almost go unnoticed. If she acts as High Priestess of the Old Religion, she usually appears in a woolen pink dress, plain but extraordinary and in brown strap sandals almost up to her calves. When she posed as Cara to trick Merlin her hair she wore servant’s clothes of course, in the colors of Mercia. So, she can come across you in many shapes and faces, most likely you won’t recognize her until she wants you to see her for who she is – and then you might not live to tell anyway. .:Height:. 5 ft. 7 .:Portrayed by:. Michelle Ryan

.:Personality:. Nimueh could be described in many ways, because she is excellent in putting on acts. But most of her personality is taken up by a certain bitterness and cruelty. This bitterness might make her appear heartless in what she inflicts on others. If someone stands in the way of the path she wants to take, she will not hesitate in taking him or her down. Her bitterness is mostly fuelled by her hatred for Uther and his reign, having to witness the Great Purge, seeing so many of her fellow sorcerers die, for what was not even her mistake. She still believes she did the right thing, a life had to be taken.
Nimueh is cunning and can disguise herself well. With her female wiles she can especially lure men to do what she wants. She played the damsel in distress for Arthur and she made Merlin poison himself through a fake act of fearing for Arthur’s life. She likes those little games and thrives on the various roles she takes up. When she shows her true face though, you can witness an air of arrogance around her as well. She knows she is powerful and she tends to look down on others because of that. That might have also lead to her underestimating Merlin in the beginning. But one thing is certain: Nimueh is clever, she most likely won’t make this mistake ever again.
But beneath all this layer you can also find a woman that is painstricken, clinging to a glorious time for her kind that she wants to restore. She is a creature of the Old Religion forced to hide away on the Isle of the Blessed. Uther is the cause of this in her eyes and so all her pain and hatred focuses on him and also on Merlin for protecting him (not to mention that he is a serious competition to her). She feels betrayed but instead of backing down it has hardened her heart, making her fight with said cruelty and disregard for others. Despite this closing up, her emotions are quite strong when they break through, like natural forces and as dangerous.
Being on Nimueh’s bad side is definitely dangerous, because her wrath seems to be everlasting. She has much time and many abilities at hand so she might not strike at once but plot your downfall in secrecy and meticulously, maybe even still smiling in your face all the time. You can never be sure how she really feels about you, so beware! .:Special Skills:. Magical: Elements: As the Old Religion is closely linked to nature, Nimueh does have a certain control over elements, her favourite element being fire. She can summon it best, when she is angry and she will not hesitate to throw fireballs at you when you're in her way. Her ire has also been said to make the earth tremble. Enchanting water in a special bassin, she can see events in other places or even possible futures.
Spells and Incantations: Nimueh has spent her whole life being trained in spells, so she does have a few tricks up her sleeve. However, a natural at magic like Merlin will always be able to catch her by surprise.
Cloaking: She can weave the shadows around her so she can travel places unseen, however as the shadows are dangerous to transfer, she doesn't use it it often.
Deflection: Given she is not completely taken off guard, she can deflect magic thrown at her, absorbing the effect or even turning it against the wielder.
Life and Death: As High Priestess of the Old Religion, Nimueh is subject to the laws of Magic and Nature. So, even if she's powerful enough to use the raw force of Samhain night to create life, a life has to be taken instead. Magic always has a price, every spell, every demand has to be met.
Non-Magical Wiles: Nimueh has a way with words and disguises and especially men she knows how to wrap around her little finger. She often uses her looks to her advantage around them, acting coy or helpless while in fact she is the spider luring them into her net.
Resourceful: For twenty years, Nimueh was forced into hiding and managed to evade all persecutors, even though she was high on Uther's death list. She knows how to survive and she has had a long time for plans to bear fruit now.

.:Birthplace:. Isle of the Blessed .:Family:. Father: Cynric de Fealor, deceased, Mother: former High Priestess, deceased .:Occupation:. Scheming High Priestess of the Old Religion .:History:. Nimueh is a High Priestess of the Old Religion and has seemingly be around for a while, at least much longer than her youthful appearance suggests. She was born many many years ago on the Isle of the Blessed to Eimhir O'Liathain, High Priestess of the Old Religion. She had been conceived in the Beltaine rites, the only night in the year when the High Priestess was allowed to lie with a man. The man of choice was Cynric de Fealor, a dashing young knight of pure ancestry with strong blood – just what Eimhir needed to conceive her heir, a daughter that would follow her up as High Priestess once she became of age.
So Nimueh grew up on the Isle, but occasionally accompanied her mother to Camelot, when her help was needed in any way. As she grew older, she saw Uther Pendragon taking up the throne of Camelot and she soon learned to respect his determined character and his fierceness in everything he did. Soon Eimhir saw fit to step down from her role of High Priestess and Nimueh was initiated, having passed all ordeals with flying colors. She would excel her mother in greatness, that much was rumoured from the start. Nimueh had always liked court life, the constant pomp and the hidden treachery, and so while Eimhir retreated to the Isle of the Blessed to end her days in peace, Nimueh stayed at Camelot, soon forming a friendship with Gaius and also the King Uther Pendragon.
She quickly became a valued member of the Court of Camelot and if people were brave enough they could ask for her help. This happened as well in the ‘incident’, as Nimueh calls it. Of course it hadn’t slipped anyones’ attention that the wife of King Uther Pendragon, Igraine, was unable to bear a child, more important, an heir to the kingdom. As magic was still held in high esteem by everyone, even Uther, for Nimueh it seemed only natural to be approached in a request, even if this one was almost outrageous. But Nimueh had the power over Life and Death, and so was asked to create a new life, a son for Uther Pendragon.
She obliged, but she had to abide by the rules of the Old Religion. A life cannot be created without taking one in return, to restore the balance of the world. Gaius had known the risk and had tried to warn Uther, but he didn’t want to hear. He would have never expected WHICH life was to be taken, Ygraine’s, she died soon after Arthur was born. If Nimueh, who HAS in fact the power over life and death, deliberatly chose Igraine to be the victim to somehow punish Uther for his selfish request, will always remain a mystery to be revealed. But even if she did, her time to gloat was over soon, because Igraine’s death triggered a horrid chain reaction. In Uther’s eyes, magic was to blame for everything, so magic was bad and a threat to him and therefore it needed to be wiped out entirely.
Terrible events unfurled, now called The Great Purge. Sorcerors, witches and magical creatures of any kind were hunted down and either burnt on the stake or drowned. Men, woman, even children who had inherited the magic through blood. Even Eimhir, unfortunately visiting Nimueh in the times Uther’s rage arose, fell victim to the purge and as much as she tried, Nimueh could not save her. Magical actions of any kind was declared High Treason against Uther and the kingdom. Those who could flee, hid away, either in remote places in the woods, or chose to go to Avalon, the Isle of the Blessed, like Nimueh did after she was banished from court in disgrace.
Nimueh stayed on the Isle, but kept contact to the world outside through an enchanted bassin, the water some kind of magic mirror. She watched the following 20 years, waiting patiently for an opportunity to strike against Camelot and Uther in particular. 20 years a long time to scheme and Nimueh now has quite a few plans ready to be executed. All she needs is for one single scheme to work – and then she can watch Uther's kingdom of terror burning down!
