The grand hall was elaborately decorated. It had been thoroughly cleaned and prepared for tonight's event. There were Pendragon crests lining the walls, flags that represented the true ruling family of this kingdom: a gold dragon in a sea of red. This coat of arms would represent everything that Camelot stood for, which had already been altered from recent decisions. Arthur did not want an overly grand coronation, with the recent passing of his father, but it turned into a larger celebration than he had anticipated.
Arthur stood at the doors, waiting for them to be opened so that he could make his grand entrance. He was dressed in his very formal attire. Well polished chain mail, boots and armor, with a vibrant red cape worn above. He looked prim and proper, as if he was showing the people that he was ready to step into the role which awaited him as soon as those doors opened. He was nervous, to say the least, for this was the moment he had been preparing for since the day he was born. It may have come sooner than he expected -- sooner than everyone had expected -- and under devestating yet seemingly inevitable circumstances, but never the less it was here and Arthur was ready. Gone was the young prince afraid of disappointing his father; looking to him for guidance and judgment; fearing disobeying him in public. Instead, this man was replaced with one who was sure in his judgment; one who made decisions that would forever change the customs and traditions of the land; one who would not live in regret for these choices. Prince Arthur Pendragon was replaced with a man ready to take the throne as King.
The doors opened and taking a deep breath, Arthur took a step inside. There was a line of people on both sides, creating a clear aisle for him to walk down. His steps were confident, poised, and his expression stoic and serious. He did not look at the various people in the crowd, but he knew who was there. Visiting Royal and Nobles. His Knights and Brothers. His closest friend, be it a servant. And the woman that he loved. Now was the time for Arthur to accept that he would be king. Not just acting king for a few hours or days, but a permanent king until his passing. Such pressure was building inside of him but none of it showed as he kept completely composed, reaching the front of the room where Godfrey stood, expecting the soon the be king kneel. Arthur did not have to be told what to do. He knelt on the ground, looking up at the elder man and awaiting for the words that would shortly come soon after he was in the proper position.
Godfrey would first ask him if he was prepared to take the oath which Arthur was of course willing to do so. He had taken it as a Prince, and was now taking it to be king. There was no question in his mind about it. Despite the fact that he was sole heir to the throne, Arthur served the people because he was obligated to; because he had developed such a strong love for them over the years. It was what motivated him to fight for each and every life, from a peasant to a royal. He cared for them all and nothing would ever change that. This was what he was meant to do. He had no doubt about that, even if he had nervousness. He was not the same man he was even a year ago when he was to be acting king among a battle with Cenred, and he felt confused and lost. He was stronger of mind and heart now and knew what kind of direction -- even on a general level -- he wanted to rule Camelot towards.
Godfrey would then ask him about governing the people and upholding the laws and customs of the land. This was something Arthur would agree too, but in a different pretence. He had changed the customs of the land. That much was clear when he knighted commoners and when he would marry a woman who used to be a servant. He was changing the traditions of Camelot, but he felt if anything, it was for the better. It emphasized equality among everyone; showing that it was not the bloodline or family that one was from which determined the strength of one’s character, but rather, what was in their heart. Yes, there were tensions about these altered traditions and customs but Arthur believed that one day, it would be widely accepted and people would understand why he had done so. In the meantime, he would govern them to the best of his ability and even if it included changing the laws, the incentive for doing so was only to further benefit the citizens of Camelot.
He would then ask if with his power, he would show justice and mercy and use better judgment when ruling the people. Arthur would whole heartedly agree to this. He had spoken against his father’s judgments in the past, and he had always stood by his decisions even if the king was in disagreement of them. He spoke with his emotions, rather than solely his mind. His father had always claimed that was a weakness of his; that he was too emotionally invested. That he could not be friends with the people in addition to their ruler. Arthur strongly disagreed with this and now was his chance to prove it. Respect and loyalty was earned, not automatically given. He wished not to rule the people through fear, but rather with empathy and understanding. He wanted to be loved by his people and this would only be shown through the way he treated them. He could not be impulsive; but give others the benefit of the doubt. He could not jump to conclusions; but keep a rational mind. This was something that he hoped would be proven through his authority as king. He wanted to show that he was a friend to the people, not only their assumed sovereign.
Which led into Godfrey’s next words that he would ask: he would ask if Arthur would use his power to maintain the laws and customs and serve the people of Camelot. He would agree to this, but it would be his own laws and customs that he was implementing. He had already gone against his father’s customs and laws in terms of knighthood, and would be objecting to traditions of who the queen would be sitting at his side, but as he previously established, he believed it would benefit the people. The men he knighted had saved the kingdom; so many more would have died had it not been for their heroic selflessness which caused them to run into the face of danger, knowing the risks and low chances of survival, but did so anyway. Not because they owed him anything; not because they owed Camelot anything; but because they were honourable men. How could this not benefit the people? How could this be detrimental to them? It was impossible, and Arthur knew this while knighting each and every one of them.
He was as certain of this as he was that Guinevère would make an incredible queen. He had been on the verge of marrying another woman. He had contemplated and weighted the pros and cons of doing so. While his heart would never be invested in that marriage, his mind would have to be. It was for political gain and nothing else. It had not been until Arthur was standing at the altar with her, that he knew he could not go through with it. What kind of king would he be if he was miserable for the rest of his life? He could not rule the people with a rational mind. He would never be out of a severe depression for having married one woman when his heart belonged to another. This of course was not the only reason he had rejected the marriage, but it was to explain why he believed Guinevère would be a far better ruler. She had all the qualities of a great queen: compassion, fairness, kindness, genuineness, sincerity, everything. She would one day rule the people at his side, and of anyone who knew her surely would understand that her personality is that perfectly suited for a ruler of a kingdom; that she embodied everything that a queen should be. She may not have royal blood, not bring land to this union but she would bring something far greater, something that was not materialistic, something that could not be found in any other woman.
So yes. Arthur would agree to all of this. His voice would hold a strong formality, knowing what words he would be agreeing to. He would speak formally, but he would speak not only from his mind, but from his heart as well. He was ready to serve the people, as he had always been since he first gained the ability to. He was ready for this role that his destiny had laid out for him. The situation was not common among other kingdoms, but it was set in such a way for Camelot. He would do everything within his power to bring everyone out of the darkness and despair that they had been consumed with in the past few weeks; to re-instill their faith in the Pendragon name and provide them with that hope that they so needed; to rule the kingdom to peace and prosperity; to protect each and every person within the kingdom and as far as his duties extended to. This was the oath he would be swearing, and when Godfrey began to speak, Arthur was ready.
We are gathered here to bear witness to the naming of Prince Arthur Pendragon, sole heir to the throne, as King of Camelot. Are you willing to take the Oath?"
"I am."
"Do you solemnly swear to govern the people of Camelot, and its dominions and to uphold the laws and customs of the land?"
"I do."
"Will you to your power cause law and exercise justice in mercy to be executed in all your judgments? "
"I will."
"Will you to the utmost of your powers and authority, maintain the laws and customs of the land and serve the people of Camelot?"
"I will."
"Now being of rightful position and entitlement, from henceforth, you shall be named King Arthur Pendragon of Camelot."
Amidst these words, Arthur felt the crown be placed on his head as he was formally declared the king of Camelot. He slowly rose from his knelt position to his feet, standing for a second, looking at Godfrey, After no more than a couple of seconds, he turned forward. He turned to face the people of Camelot. The room that was filled with friends, family, loved ones. Royals, nobles, knights and servants. Each person here held significance, some for very specific reasons, others because they were part of the kingdom that he was now the ultimate authority of. Each and every one of the people in this room before him had all just lay witness to Arthur Pendragon becoming the king of Camelot.

Some Days Are Meant For Perfection . . . It was silly for her to have butterflies in her belly but she did! She had them all morning as she helped everything get ready and then sought out her own preparations. She had wanted to dress in her pink gown but after wearing it to Morgana's self coronation she wanted to wear something different. She spent the morning with Uther, helping prepare some of his clothing and even brought some flowers to brighten him up and (hopefully) but him in a better frame of mind for tonight.
She spent lunch with Arthur, just talking; before she went to help make sure his clothing and cape were bright and ready. Then she helped bring in some flowers for the tables and make sure the hall was dressed up and fit for a KING!
She wasn't doing as a servant, but as a woman in love. Everything had to be perfect! When the hour came, her brother escorted her in and to the front row with all of Arthur's newest knights around her. She gave each and every one a bright and euphoric smile; as she took in their expressions. Gwaine, Percival, Leon, Elyan, Lancelot. She greeted them all silently but brightly, before turning to give Merlin one of the brightest of smiles. He would understand what this moment meant for not just her, but for him and the kingdom. They had after all, been waiting for it for five years!
The sound of the doors opening made her shoulder sake with a short silent laughter and she found her hand reaching out for Merlin's so she could squeeze it. She could not see him, until he made his way further down into hall and once he came into view she had to bite her lip to keep from making a sound.
Light tears of pure joy came to her eyes, and she blinked them away so she could see every detail. She watched from the front row as he knelt down and everything begun. She found her self reaching around to her other side to take the hand of whomever was beside her at the moment, with out looking away from Arthur! This was the moment! This was what she had been waiting for for so long!
We are gathered here to bear witness to the naming of Prince Arthur Pendragon, sole heir to the throne, as King of Camelot. Are you willing to take the Oath?"
"I am."
Her heart skipped a beat, and she felt her toes curl in her shoes with the burst of excitement and joy that filled her whole body at being here among friends and family to watch this moment!
"Do you solemnly swear to govern the people of Camelot, and its dominions and to uphold the laws and customs of the land?"
"I do."
His voice was clear, and strong, ans sure! With each one her spoke she felt her head being held higher, with pride. She so so proud of him in this moment! Of everyone! Arthur was becoming king and he was starting to build a circle of knights that he wanted to help him lead the kingdom into a new era!
"Will you to your power cause law and exercise justice in mercy to be executed in all your judgments? "
"I will."
She knew the new era began now! He would not be the king his father was but one that was fair, and loyal and just. This was the moment when everything changed! THIS was THE moment!
"Will you to the utmost of your powers and authority, maintain the laws and customs of the land and serve the people of Camelot?"
"I will."
"Now being of rightful position and entitlement, from henceforth, you shall be named King Arthur Pendragon of Camelot."
She watched as Godfrey placed the crown upon his head and she gave a silent short laugh again, before he stood up and paused a moment before turning to face the people of his kingdom!! HIS kingdom! He was king NOW! She stood there watching him, and then the room burst out in glorious applause! Only then did she finally break her silence and laughed light and gleefully; as well as clapped right along with everyone! Some Days Are Meant For Perfection . . .
