There was no way Griff was going to let his brother go and get himself married before he was given a proper send off. He hadn't said anything about this to Lucan because he'd only protest and then be "busy" whenever anything was planned. Griff wasn't going to let him do this - mainly because he wanted something to celebrate. Things still weren't completely normal between him and Caitrin and he wanted to just be able to take his mind off everything and not have to feel awkward and not know where things stood between them. He sighed and a ran a hand through his hair. This was exactly what he didn't want to happen. Tonight was about Lucan and his enjoyment rather than Griff getting drunk and feeling sorry for himself. He'd done enough of that to last a lifetime.
He was now stood outside Lucan's chamber, trying to think of the best way to break the news to Lucan. He doubted his brother would be terribly enthusiastic about the whole thing but he didn't have a choice. Besides, Gwaine would be here soon - that's assuming he hadn't found himself in a tavern and lost track of time - and then Lucan wouldn't have an excuse not to join them. This was all about him after all. He should be grateful that Griff was going to all this effort for him.
He knocked loudly on the door, perhaps a little too enthusiastically (but if he wasn't enthusiastic then Lucan wouldn't be either). "Luc! Are you in there? I have a surprise for you! And you'll actually like it this time!"

He was currently in the middle of, once again, writing letters to his father. He'd had to leave it until late into this evening as his duties once again came first. As long as he got all this stuff about the estate out of the way, then Allard would have nothing to worry about once he got there to keep things running - assuming that they were all well now.
Lucan was just glad that things in Camelot were fairly back to running order. From what he'd seen on the patrols he'd been making, people had put their lives back together or were still fairly in the process of regaining them. It was times like this that Lucan was grateful that Morgana hadn't gone too far as to destroy the whole city. Now they had new Knights and a whole new outlook.
He carried on writing, hoping that he could just fall into bed soon after and get some well deserved sleep. He dreaded to think how long into the night he would be up until when he finally inherited the estate. In all truth, he'd had nightmares of it. Speaking of nightmares, one - going by the name of Griff, was now hammering far too loudly on his door and breaking his concentration. What the hell did he want at this time?! If it was money then Luc would literally through him a purse and tell him to get lost. "Luc! Are you in there? I have a surprise for you! And you'll actually like it this time!"
Oh he very much doubted it. That was all he needed, his brother swinging in and springing something completly out of the question upon him. He already knew it would be something like that. This was his brother after all.
"Griff! I told you that I would be busy! Now stop banging on my door and go to a tavern or something!" He called back resting his head on his hand to try and concentrate more on what he was actually writing.

Gwaine was running late, well what was new? Business had kept him a bit longer than he had intended to whilst he was on patrol around the city walls. But now at least he was on his way to surprise Lucan along with Griff, well that was the plan anyway. It didn’t take Gwaine as long as he thought it would to reach the estate, he had never been before, but it looked grand enough to belong to Lucan’s family. He quickly dismounted his horse, and asked the stable hand where he could find Griff Aubert. The servant directed him quickly and Gwaine thanked him before rushing off. Griff had invited him on some sort of stag doo for Lucan. The man was getting married so it was only natural they should send him on his way to his new life with the hangover of his life; it was like an unwritten rule, and one which would not be broken on Gwaine’s watch.
He was quite impressed that Griff had invited him on this drinking excursion, but then again, drinking had been how their friendship had started hadn’t it? Gwaine had never really thought he would bump into Griff after their little tavern excursion in the northern lands. They’d bumped into Camelot not long ago, and naturally they had remained friends. It seemed like an age ago since he had run into the man drinking himself silly over some woman. The same woman he was now still engaged to if Gwaine was correct, but who was he to judge?
Running up the stairs, Gwaine half slid across the corridor to where he spotted Griff standing outside a door. Steadying himself he looked across at the man, and ran a hand through his hair, “Sorry I’m late.” Gwaine wasn’t usually one for not being on time, with the odd exception, but he was never late when ale was involved. However, from the look of things, it appeared he hadn’t missed much. “Where’s Lucan?” That was the reason he was here after all wasn’t it? To celebrate Lucan’s up and coming marriage. Gwaine hadn’t yet met the Lady in question, but he was sure she was a good match for Lucan. Besides, their union was giving Gwaine an excuse to drink, so already he found himself quite in favour of the bride and groom.

"Ah, Gwaine!" Griff would have greeted him with more enthusiasm and much more volume if he wasn't currently stood outside Lucan's room. He hadn't mentioned anything about Gwaine and as Lucan was only going to disapprove he thought it was best to leave that part out until his brother had no escape. It was all very cleverly done, you see. "It's good to see you." He added while still keeping his voice down. The two men had been rather goof friends ever since they'd ran into each other again in Camelot when they had both been, surprisingly, sober. That state hadn't lasted long. It had been slightly awkward at first though as Griff, when asked about how the world was treating him, had to explain that he was now getting married to Caitrin - the reason they'd first met when Griff had been trying to drown his sorrows.
"Where's Lucan?"
Griff pointed at the door. His brother wasn't going to come out of his own accord if he knew exactly what Griff had planned, but at least with Gwaine here they had twice the manpower Lucan did. Well, maybe not twice but Gwaine made up for Griff's lack of strength and muscles. "I haven't told him to the plan yet..." It was a good thing that Gwaine had turned up before, he was able to persuade anyone to go drinking and Lucan would probably listen to a fellow knight and friend over his little brother.
"Griff! I told you that I would be busy! Now stop banging on my door and go to a tavern or something!"
The youngest Aubert rolled his eyes and leant against the door frame. Honestly, it was like Lucan didn't want to come and have fun with him and Gwaine. It wasn't healthy, spending all his time worrying and being busy and being responsibile. This was not the first time Griff thought his brother needed to lighten up. Fortunately, Lucan had him and Gwaine to sort him out. "You're not busy, you're boring." He should probably ask to come in, but that wasn't going to get him anywhere so he just opened the door and walked into the room, a rather large and probably annoying grin on his face. "Stop that - look who's here!" Still looking at his brother he raised his arm to almost present Gwaine. "Fun time now!"

He was going to kill his little brother. One moment he was calling through the door, and the next he was practically inviting himself in. "Griff!" Lucan yelled as he looked up from his letters, "You don't just barge through someone's door if they want privacy! Can't you see that's what I need right now? and that means just me....Alone!" He emphasised. Seriously! Why couldn't Griff just leave him be?
"You're not busy, you're boring." Oh how mature.
"I couldn't give a rats tail what you think" Lucan retorted back, had Griff have been just as under pressure as he was right now, then he wouldn't have wanted Lucan barging into his room at a ridiculous hour.
"Stop that - look who's here!" Lucan looked to where Griff was now gesturing. Oh no - he'd brought company, and in the form of someone who never shut up. "Fun time now!" His brother seemed to think that this was a brilliant idea. Lucan begged to differ. He sat back in his chair and folded his arms.
"Gwaine?" he raised his eyebrows in suspicion, "Gwaine is my surprise?" Oh lord he hoped not. "Look guys, as much as I appreciate you two trying to drag me out somewhere, well I gather that's your plan because it always seems to be..." he narrowed his eyes at his brother, "...i'm sorry but i'm really just not in the mood - so have a nice time."

As rude as Gwaine thought it was for him to turn up late, surely it was even more rude for Lucan to be late for his own stag party? He raised his eye brows as Griff just gestured towards the room in answer to his question. Wait, did Lucan even know what was going to happen? Well, Gwaine had never really had Lucan down as someone who would be up for a drinking session so close to his wedding. He and Lucan had been for a drink before, but it had only been a quick social thing, and not at all what Griff was suggesting now. This of course didn’t put Gwaine off in the slightest, because it would be more fun to try and persuade Lucan to join them. Well, Lucan didn’t really have much choice in the matter, it was his stag night so he had to join them. He chuckled at the banter between Lucan and Griff, it was refreshing hearing someone talk to his fellow brother in such a way; sometimes it helped to show that past all the splendour of being a knight, they were just family to some people. Well, Gwaine wasn’t, but Lucan was and that was the important thing right now.
Now that Gwaine knew that Lucan wasn’t completely aware of what the evenings proceedings were going to be, he knew he wasn’t going to be pleased at anything. However, it didn’t stop him being slightly offended at the way in which Lucan dismissed the idea that he could be his gift. Pfft, like he’d allow himself to be gifted to such an ungrateful receiver. Anyway, Lucan wasn’t a woman so that wouldn’t do at all. If he was going to be sent as a surprise to anyone it should be a woman, preferably one in close proximity to a tavern...
Gwaine joined Griff in the room, and folded his arms and cocked a grin, “I wasn’t aware there was a better surprise?” He pointed out and raised an eye brow at his fellow knight. Gwaine wasn’t about to let his friend wallow his last few hours of freedom in his study. His business for Arthur, or whoever he was writing to, could wait until the morning. The night time was for drinking, not for working. He walked forwards and leant up against Lucan’s desk and looked down at him, “If you think I’m going to let you waste your precious moments before becoming tied down with marriage in here working, you’re mistaken.” He winked at Lucan, clapping him on the shoulder, “Come on, you only live once, and you only get married once!” Well some people got married more than once, but that would ruin the mood wouldn’t it, “And we just want to help you have a good time.” Perhaps that would persuade him, or perhaps that would get them both thrown out of the estate. Gwaine preferred the first, because that meant he would have an ale in his hand in the foreseeable future.

Lucan could complain all he wanted and knowing him, he was going to but that wasn’t going to stop Griff or Gwaine. They had a plan so Lucan was just going to have to live with it. Maybe if he stopped being so dedicated to his never ending work he’d have fun once in a while. But then that had always been his problem. Luckily, his younger brother was here and had thought to bring reinforcements. There was no way Lucan was going to spend his last night of freedom on his own working. It just wasn’t going to happen. He merely shrugged at Lucan’s comment. “The feeling’s mutual.”
Griff wasn’t at all surprised that his brother wasn’t impressed, or even happy, about Gwaine’s presence. Well. That was charming. All they were doing was trying to give him one last night of freedom but of course Lucan was just going to complain and be miserable about it. If the younger Aubert wasn’t itching for a drink himself he would have just left Lucan to it.
As the two men conversed, Griff just stood there, nodding at the appropriate moments. Gwaine had much greater powers of persuasion than he did, so he was just there to stand in the background and agree to everything the older man said. Impressively, Lucan wasn’t budging. “Oh come on! What’s the worst that could happen?” It seemed Lucan had gotten it into his head that drinking was one of the worst things anyone could do, and that indulging in such a pastime would only end badly. And this was from a man who’d fought a dragon. Well, sort of. The point was still there. Nothing terrible was going to befall him, in fact, he might even have fun.

Well wasn't this wonderful - both his brother and Gwaine all in the same room. Lucan couldn't think of how wrong this 'surprise' that Griff had could go. He smirked at Gwiane's comment, glancing at his brother and glaring a little. There was no way that he was going anywhere with them - didn't he understand just how much work he had to do? No of course he didn't, because this was Griff that they were talking about.
"If you think I’m going to let you waste your precious moments before becoming tied down with marriage in here working, you’re mistaken.” Gwaine was now saying. He was even worse than his brother! Lucan didn't like fuss, especially when it surrounded him. He wasn't even looking forward to having everyone fuss around him on his wedding day! Why couldn't they just leave him alone?
He sat back in his chair and looked at Griff, unimpressed."Im going to say this slowly and only once..." he started, putting his quill down calmly. "I am NOT going out drinking with you two just because im getting married - you can both go out on my behalf but I won't be" he told them, before picking up his quill and starting to write again. “Come on, you only live once, and you only get married once!” Lucan glanced up at Gwaine and his brother. "No..."
“Oh come on! What’s the worst that could happen?”
Why the hell couldn't they just see that he didn't want to do this? "Hmm let me see...you two mixed with drink? I've already told you not to do anything like this Griff and what do you go an do? Completly ignore me!" he snapped, "I'm not the kind of person who goes out drinking until dawn, so believe me when I say thankyou...but no thankyou".
Hopefully this would sway the pair to go without him and leave him in peace. One thing was for sure, Camila would never have to worry about him going out and drinking until he couldn't remember her name.

How could Lucan fail but to want to go with him and Griff to the tavern. Time in the tavern with either man was sure to be a fabulous night, why was Lucan not appreciating this. Time spent in the tavern with Griff had got a lot better, seeing as he was no longer moping around after that girl. No, he’d only gone and said he was still going to marry her, Gwaine couldn’t understand it, but who was he to judge? “You’ll enjoy yourself, after all, who wouldn’t with this face for company?” He gestured to himself, he didn’t mean Griff as the man was practically nearly wedded and bedded himself. “And then we get to do this all over again for Griff.” He clapped his friend on the shoulder, “So you’ll have to get used to it Lucan.”
Gwaine could see this wasn’t going well, in any sense of the word. He frowned slightly, he’d only ever got Lucan to drink with him once. It was so much easier to get some of his other brothers to drink with him, he’d even got Percival to flirt with women in the tavern to get them free ale. Lucan however was proving to be a fresh challenge. Seeing as he was refusing Griff and Gwaine, he supposed that this wasn’t going to ever go well. In one of his more inspired moments, Gwaine had an idea. He looked quite annoyed, or at least he tried to for a few moments. He had a solution to this little problem; he wasn’t about to let one of his brothers waste his stag night in here by himself with his work. Work could wait, the stars were out, and this was a night for drinking.
He shrugged at Lucan and ran a hand through his hair, “There’s no helping lost cause sometimes.” He said half in jest and turned away from his brother and to Griff. He gave the man a quick wink to let him know that he wasn’t just leaving straight away. “Keep him busy.” Gwaine whispered into Griff’s ear and quickly left the room. He had an idea, and nothing was going to stand in his way. Lucan was going to enjoy his stag night whether he was going to leave the room or not.

Honestly, what was Lucan's problem? Anyone would think he didn't want to celebrate his upcoming marriage. Griff would have to tell Camila about this, she seemed like the sort of woman who wouldn't take too kindly to her future husband not being overly enthusiastic about their wedding. And even if he didn't want to celebrate - which was stupid - then he should appreciate just how nice and wonderful him and Gwaine were being. They were giving up their time for this, and all Lucan could do was complain. How typical of his brother.
Surprisingly, Gwaine hadn't managed to convince Lucan this was a good idea yet. Either his friend was losing his touch, or his brother was a lot more determined to be miserable than either of them expected. If the situation were reversed all Gwaine had to do was turn up and Griff would soon find himself in a tavern surrounded by empty tankards. Obviously he was the only Aubert to inherit the fun gene.
"Why don't we make a deal?" Griff asked, trying to appeal to Lucan's more logical and annoyingly sensible nature. "You come out with us and if you don't start enjoying it you can come back here and we'll stop pestering you?" He thought it was a rather good idea, even if he did say so himself, and if Lucan refused he was just showing himself to be an even bigger spoilsport than his younger brother had first thought, and that would be impressive.
