Guinevère knew he had almost wed a few times, though she had always known he had not wished to many most of them. Vivian had been a spell, Elena-the closest call to him almost being married-had not been his own choice and Mithian . . . had not been love.
Yet with Sophia she wasn't sure what she had thought. "You loved her?" She asked, again not hurt but surprised by his words. She knew he'd never loved another, but he said he had thought himself in love. Why had he nor married her then? If he was in love, and willing to elope, why did he not wed her? "What happened?" What changed his mind? How had he known it wasn't love but . . . . lust? Youthful need? Friendship? "I am surprised she left." After gaining the (almost) heart of a prince. "Where is she now?"

"You loved her?" Not at all. "At the time, I mistook lust and infatuation for love," he told her, not wanting her to think that it had ever been real love. He hadn't known what that was, until he fell in love with Guinevère. And any lustful feelings he had for any other woman . . . had ceased to exist. She asked what happened and Arthur wished he knew more to tell her than what he did. For he could not recall a great deal after having run away with her. "Merlin came after me and . . . apparently, he claims to have knocked me out and dragged me home." Arthur still wasn't sure about that part, but the main thing was that Merlin brought him home. "When I woke up, I couldn't believe what I had almost done. And I knew then for sure that it was not love." It had never been. "I don't know what became of her, or where she is now." He had to admit that he felt bad.
Another woman he had humiliated . . . and he wished he could find her one day and apologize to her for any hurt he may have caused. Though he knew that was not the first woman he had humiliated, nor had it been the last. Thankfully, there would be no more. No more, since the day he married Guinevère. "I'm not proud of my actions," he told her, not wanting her to think that he thought it was alright to have led her on to such an extent, and then just left her without so much as a word or explanation. She had deserved at least that much. "But I would never have been happy with her. And I don't want Anna to mistake what she perceives to be love, for whatever emotions I had felt that caused me to take such drastic measures." Love was an easy word to throw around without knowing its true meaning . . . until you found that person that you truly loved.

He was using his almost elopement as a reason to deny giving Anna a chance at love. she still wanted to know more about his relationship with Sophia, but she was not jealous nor hurt that he had once found a girl he wanted to marry. She had known there was others, but that his heart was her's. Just as her heart was his. The need for jealousy was void, for she had too much faith in their love to doubt.
"You need to have faith in Anna, husband, and trust her to know what she wants and whom she loves." This wasn't a sudden thing, but something that had built. "When we host feasts or balls, Anna and Merrickk tend to spend time together at them. They've picnicked in the garden, and try to find every reason they can to seek each other's company."
"This is not a sudden and unexplainable love but one that has grown over time. I think you owe it to Anna to at least speak to her and see where her heart is."
