Brynn couldn’t have been more surprised at this offer, and for a moment she didn’t know how to react to it. This was the second knight of Camelot asking her to be on first name basis with him. Where would it end? Given, these were both of the newly knighted men, those who didn’t have a noble background and therefore shouldn’t even serve as knights, so it was slightly more natural they felt a little uncomfortable in their new position, but it was still living proof of how much the world had been changing. So much was possible now, even for servants to be best friends with knights, because the title seemed no longer firmly linked to status, only to your work and dedication to Camelot. ”Many people higher up have done worse things and still bear their title” , Brynn mused with a slightly amused undertone, but then she inclined her head. “But I shall of course accept this honor, Percival. May your alibi hold and prevent you from any repercussions.” Not that they would be grand in any way, but there was no harm in wishing good luck on this affair.
She listened with interest to Percival’s story, as she didn’t have many opportunities to get such an insight into what had happened outside of Camelot. Of course, she could always ask Gwaine, but he wasn’t very talkative about things that didn’t concern him immediately sometimes. She could almost picture that scene, and it didn’t surprise her in the slightest. Arthur Pendragon just had that way of making you feel like you really could be his best friend. He valued you for what you did, not who you were in the first place. Brynn had witnessed that first hand – after a minor clash they had had to begin with. In hindsight, the episode seemed like a dreamy adventure, even though it had been a horrifyingly real and nightmarish scene at that moment. It was a funny coincidence Percival should inquire after her motives just as her thoughts were headed in that particular way. She would not tell him all the details of course, since one thing especially she had sworn to keep a secret for all time to come, but there was no harm in retelling the gist, was there? ”Well, I was born into this decision, I should say”, she commented with a light shrug and a smile. “Since I was born a servant of Camelot I only needed to find my place and found it with the geese. But there was one incident fermenting what I took for granted, and it will make me serve Arthur Pendragon with pride for all time to come. He once saved my life.”
