Gwaine couldn’t wait to hear what Robyn had to say on their little wager. She was proving to be quite the catch, and she would have to be to inspire Gwaine in such an excited manner. A lot of women thought they were unique, and prided themselves on that fact. Robyn had an air of confidence about her, which was unique without her having to make everyone aware of it. Though Gwaine wasn’t a real believer in love, or other such things, he believed that one day this little Robyn would capture someones heart, and that they would find themselves unable to break free from her grasp. That person wasn’t him, but he hoped one day that Robyn did find someone. “Well, please do not leave me hanging for too long.” He winked at Brynn, and let a small smile purse his lips.
Gwaine raised his glass, and was almost inspired by Robyn’s words for a few moments. It was refreshing to be in the company of someone else who despised the power the nobility had. He would never think to join them again of course, he enjoyed his life how it was now. He had no problem with the way things had turned out for him, after all, he had everything he needed for now. He had an ale at the end of the day, tavern food and a woman on his arm when he was lucky enough. As Robyn had said, he was as free as the wind. “Here here.” He said in agreement and took a drink of ale from his tankard. The ale was refreshing against his lips, it truly was one of life’s greatest rewards.
Gwaine wanted to raise his eye brows at Robyn. Did his words work? Of course they worked! This was him after all. Everywhere Gwaine went, his words always did well with any woman he met. It showed him that women were all the same in some respects. They all wanted to be loved, or at least the ones he had come across wanted to be loved. His words showed women how special they were, so even though he wouldn’t be sticking around that long, they still had his words. It was almost like a legacy of sorts, he didn’t have much to leave as an impression, but his words usually did the trick. Robyn would be no exception from this of course. He would make sure he left the right impression on the young woman, they probably wouldn’t meet again, so it was quite important to him. “Of course my words work. You wouldn’t want to be the exception to the rule now, would you?” He teased softly, putting a finger on her chin and raising it up slightly, just enough so he could lock fully with her eyes.

Ahhh, now she had him right were she wanted him... right? It was in her hands now, the figurative hanging from a rope. Of course she did not have any intentions to keep Gwaine hanging for any amount of time, but he didn’t need to know that, now did he? That was what gave you the upper hand with men… not that Robyn usually desired to have that. She was more for a mutual respect and wit basis, something that made you appreciate the company you were in without either feeling like he was the lower part of the system. That wasn’t easy to achieve sometimes, and Robyn rather liked the feeling of having something like the upper hand for once in a little while. ”That depends not only on me, I should say”, she stated with a suggestive wink. “If you can convince me not to, then I see no reason why I even should.”
How good it was to be talking to someone of her own mindset once in a while! Of course, there was the pack and her brother and all, but those were people she talked to every day, and usually when she spoke to strangers, she always kept a little reserved, and surely kept her opinions about nobility to herself. People might think in similar ways, but they were not free like she was, they were fearing repercussions. Gwaine was like her in so many ways… it was almost unfair. Unfair because Robyn didn’t feel like her overflowing feelings were reciprocated in the slightest, and she knew she had to adjust to that. Gwaine wanted to flirt, nothing more, and before this starteed to get too serious, she should very well do the same. The ale helped with that, surely, as Robyn started to get more devil-may-care by the second.
Dear oh dear… they were slowly reaching the touching stage now. Not that she had anything against that, of course. It was only her chin after all, and a rather affectionate movement as well, so Robyn was not in any mood to draw back or object. Without hesitation, she held his gaze, not feeling like she should hide anything or play coy. That was simply not in her nature, she only used it as an effect sometimes, but rather rarely. ”Well, I’m really not so much one for rules, you know”, she stated with a lazy grin. “So exception is fine with me. Would that be so bad, I ask you?” She just dealt with words every day, so she knew how empty and illusionary they were for the most part. Maybe that was the reason she was not easily ensnared by phrases, rather by deeds. Like this finger on her chin… that was doing the trick more than all of his previous words had. In that aspect, they probably were very different indeed.

Gwaine was quite taken aback by Robyn’s response. She might have appeared all sweet, and dainty whilst on the stage, and even in their earlier words, but she was now showing herself to be quite a strong willed woman. She was clearly used to male attention, because she wouldn’t have been able to string lines like that if she wasn’t used to the odd wink, and good word in the right direction. However, it wasn’t anything Gwaine hadn’t heard before, and perhaps Robyn thought that she was posing a new challenge to him. Gwaine had been to nearly every kingdom in Albion, and the women he had met had been very diverse, but they all seemed to think they could win one over on him. They all thought he was like every other man in the crowd, and in that, lay Gwaine’s strength. It meant he could toy, and tease with women whilst allowing them to believe that they had the upper hand. They never did around Gwaine of course, but it was quite amusing to watch them try. “You mean my smile is not enough to convince you?” He pouted slightly, “A shame, because I was looking forwards to hearing your suggestions…” He pressed his lips together, trying not to smirk. If she was interested in him, she would tell him anyway because that was just logical wasn’t it? And she was interested, or at least Gwaine assumed so. Everything about her stance suggested she was interested, so he was looking forwards to hearing her suggestions.
Gwaine was starting to hope that the rest of his stay in Camelot was this eventful. Although Robyn wasn’t from Camelot, he hoped the women around here were more diverse than ones he had come across in the past. He was already enjoying himself in the new Kingdom, and he had only been here a matter of hours. “I don’t allow my rules to be broken you know.” Gwaine said softly, and shifted the hand which had been cupping her chin to caress past her cheek. Robyn might have enough words to duel with his flirts all afternoon, but at the end of the day, he still believed he had the upper hand. He loved seeing the effect his caresses had on women. Once he had finished, he put his hand back on the table, and took a swig of ale. It would be interesting now to see how she came back from that. However, the niggling worry in the back of Gwaine’s mind was still there, that her brother might be drinking in here soon. Hmm, he should probably be more subtle in his advances, but Robyn was demanding more of a hands on approach, and he was enjoying every moment of it.

Suggestions?! Suggestions as to what?! For a moment Robyn was clearly confused. It didn’t really help in trying to outwit him when he was always being so cryptical. They had been talking about leaving him hanging from the figurative rope because of - - there it was! Robyn inwardly shook her head at her slowness, but then again they had been straying so far from the original topic one could hardly blame her. This all had started with a bet, whether Gwaine or Prince Arthur was the one more handsome, and he had left it to her to think of a wager in case she won. Goodness, sometimes flirting could be truly mind-wrenching, and especially if your counterpart was as witty as Gwaine. Someone else might have not been able or even willing to keep this going for so long, and thus she would have either long since won, or would be talking to someone else. Gwaine was quite insistent, and in a way Robyn quite liked that. ”You will see soon enough, as I might yet win”, she teased him with a cheeky grin. “But maybe I could give a little teaser as to what would be my top five of suggestions?” This was hardly to be called subtle, but then they were slowly leaving the subtle parts behind anyway. It also gave her the feeling that she was still in charge, and she would hate to lose that feeling.
She was definitely no longer in charge with the new turnout of this coversation though, Robyn realized with an inward sigh as she fought down a pleasant shudder. If it wouldn’t have been dangerous to say something like that – and cheesy and unworthy of a girl like her – Robyn might have called Gwaine’s hands well-nigh magical. It didn’t happen often that Robyn allowed herself being touched by a mere stranger – Gwaine was nothing but that, even though it had long since ceased to feel that way – and it was even rarer it made her feel so… helpless and good at the same time. Helpless because she literally felt her brain stopping to work and reducing her to mere skin and sensation. Great. But then it also felt good, and that was probably the worst of it. How was that fair please, that the mere touch of a man could reduce her to this?! Couldn’t her wit and her experience get her out of this unscathed?! Well, there was surely no harm in trying! ”Oh, so I need your permission, is that it?” Robyn murmured. “That’s not very nice, don’t you think?”
Gah, that was bad! That was even worse than bad! What had happened to Mockingbird? Could a simple caress and a smile clip her wings or seal off her beak? No, that couldn’t be, that was well-nigh ridiculous! Maybe she should try again? But with what? Almost without her doing and completely surprising for herself, she found her fingers suddenly playing with his as they lay on the table. Oh dear goodness, what was THAT about? Now she needed to think of a phrase to match her disturbing actions. How about… ”You think you’re the only one able to pull that stunt? Don’t be too sure of it, dear Gwaine.”

It brought a smug little grin to Gwaine’s lips to see that he’d managed to confuse Robyn a little with his words. He was well used to twisting a woman around his finger through his words. However, Robyn was so far proving to be quite different. It had taken a long time to even get her a little speechless. It was irritating in a way, but it made the conquest all the more interesting overall. Women who bent too easily to his words were incredibly boring. After all, why would he want someone who just said yes to him all the time, and didn’t provide him with any sort of challenge? He could find that with any woman in any kingdom. It was a fine thing to find indeed when a woman did bite back a little, and especially if the woman in question was obliging. He certainly hoped that this wasn’t just a short burst from Robyn and that she continued to be as intriguing as she was being now. He pressed his lips together and rested his head in his hands and looked on at her and cocked a grin, “You are playing against me, are you sure you will win?” He asked rather smugly and winked at her, he was only jesting of course, but he didn’t like to lose. In his own way Gwaine was incredibly competitive, and Robyn would quickly learn this. Now, she was being anything but subtle and it was a change of tact from her. Gwaine was usually the one to be quite blunt in situations like this but he was finding it quite easy to be subtle and almost poetic around her. Perhaps this was a sign that she was finally breaking underneath him, he certainly hoped so as it had taken him long enough to get to this point hadn’t it? “And what would these five suggestions be?” He smirked and took another swig of his ale, “I’m all ears.”
He wondered if he’d managed to catch her in his web of words yet. It was sometimes hard to figure it out with women. They were irritating creatures sometimes. You could tell if a man was smitten with a woman, because there were physical signs as well as the dribble which was usually hanging from the man’s mouth. Women however were different to figure out. They were incredibly good, in Gwaine’s experience, at hiding their emotions until they hit breaking point. Then all their emotions ran out at once. Of course that didn’t apply to all women, but Gwaine figured Robyn was one such woman, she was certainly proving herself to be such. “I never said I was nice.” He chuckled and took a swig of his ale, letting her know he was but jesting with her.
As her fingers played with his on the table he tried to repress grinning at her. Perhaps he had caught her after all. Gwaine was glad in a way, he had been sure he was losing his touch, and that simply wouldn’t do at all. It was a distressing situation at best to think that Gwaine might have lost his charm. “You forget Robyn, your hand is on mine, not the other way around.” He challenged, he wasn’t the one who was succumbing quickly to his emotions, but she was showing that she was.

Now she had driven herself in that corner alright, Robyn thought gloomily as she saw the smirk appear on Gwaine’s face. Of course he would take up the challenge of the five things, and that left her to think them up. Would lying be of any use? She could try of course, but then lying was hardly just. How could she deserve the nickname Lady Justice if she now started to extricate herself from situations through lies? Righteousness had its clear downsides apparently. ”Well, would I be doing this if I didn’t think I could win?” she showed a bit of fighting spirit, grinning, even though her thoughts were still racing inwardly. It shouldn’t be so hard to think of five suggestions, things she wanted him to do should he lose the bet. There were a few harmless things, but there were also a few not so harmless things on her mind, and Robyn was sure these would be the things he’s be interested in most. “Well, the most harmless of them all would be you admitting I’ve been right and that there is someone more handsome than you.” Robyn, began, smirking. There was nothing wrong with keeping the suspense a bit, since it also gave her a little more time to think. “But it would be boring to give away all my game at once, wouldn’t it? All I will say is that the next four include me, you , a room and a little time to spare… the rest is for me to know and for you to dot-dot-dot!” There, that was as far as she would go. There was no use in spelling it out for him, right, she had been blunt enough already and probably his mind would run wild now. Just like hers was, to be honest… goodness, this was going at a fast pace indeed!
No, of course he had never said he was nice, even though he was far from being rude. He was just… she guessed he was just himself. Knowing what to say at the exactly right moment and how to get her best. Robyn was all but sure by now Gwaine had quite figured her out, and she was not sure what to think of that. It was long since she had last been played so well at her very own game, and she had enjoyed herself up until the very moment it all started to slip through her fingers, which now it was. Her heart had been going out to him, and had not been received yet, probably also would not be, and this situation made her quite vulnerable. Before, her heart had not been into this, and so she had been safe, even if he rejected her, it had all but been a game. Now she feared it would become more than that, with her the only one wanting that. She would have to be careful to not let it show, as she didn’t want Gwaine’s pity, which was sure to follow any revellation. “But you haven’t shown yourself to be particularly vile, either!” she commented, taking a sip of her own mug. The ale had made her bold before, maybe it would help her through this. “So, what are you I wonder? A nice guy beneath a rougher shell, or a bad boy, waiting to be reformed?”
“You forget Robyn, your hand is on mine, not the other way around.” Hmm… he was certainly right about that, wasn’t he? But she didn’t retract her hand as if she had been burned, showing any sign of guilt, but kept on playing with his fingers. It didn’t feel bad after all. “And who was it that touched my chin first?” she asked, feigning innocence. “I do recall it was not me, correct me if I’m wrong.” He had been the one doing the first touch, yes, and she would not yield on that subject. Now who couldn’t hold himself back, eh? Or had it been wrong to point that one out? What if Gwaine was a sore loser? Well, if he was, then he was not worth spending any more time on, that much was for sure!

Gwaine was rather looking forwards to these five things that Robyn had to offer him. After all it would be cruel of her to deny him this information after she had suggested such things. She couldn’t leave him hanging, well she could, but he was interested now, and that was possibly quite dangerous. After all, he was now just more interested in hearing what she had to say, because he could build on whatever she could come up with. Taking a sip of his ale, Gwaine looked over Robyn, it would be quite disappointing if she was leading him a merry dance, mainly because he had hope for this woman. Many women could talk, oh God they could talk, but not many had the talent of turning those words into much. “There is no one more handsome, of that I am sure.” Gwaine’s arrogance was only matched by his ego, and he smirked at Robyn. Gwaine was incredibly confident, and that wasn’t a bad thing, well most of the time. Alone in a room? Well well, he certainly hadn’t thought Robyn the innocent and he certainly didn’t now. She didn’t have to spell it out for him, though he rather wanted it to. Hearing words of seduction from women had a certain charm about it. “I’m sure I can think of something.” He was probably more experienced than Robyn in such matters anyway, perhaps Robyn thought she had one up on him with being so blunt, but her bluntness did not fluster him or even have much of an effect bar interest. She could be as blunt as she wanted, it didn’t mean she was actually prepared to do anything, that still remained to be seen.
Hmm. Her tags for him were quite romantic and girlish words. A bad boy waiting to be reformed? Gwaine had never thought of himself as either, he never showed himself as much because he never let himself get that attached to anyone. He wasn’t sure what he was anymore to be honest. He was just Gwaine, and that wasn’t incredibly helpful to describe himself. He looked on at Robyn and smirked somewhat, “What do you think I am?” He asked, resting his head on one of his hands with a soft grin. It was easier to shift the question on rather than answer her directly, after all he wasn’t sure what he was, but maybe Robyn could come to some conclusion for him.
She had a point, irritably, but it had provoked a reaction and that was the point really wasn’t it? Gwaine noticed she hadn’t shifted her hand just yet, and he looked down at the hand before looking back at Robyn’s face, that was what he was supposed to be focussing on after all. “Well I took my hand from your chin, your hand remains firmly on mine.” It was a good point, it proved which one of them was more hooked than the other. He rested his cheek in his other palm, “Is there something about my hand which you find desirable?” He winked at her, pressing his lips into a simple grin.

Gwaine was just climbing up to a new level of self-assuredness and arrogance when he told her quite bluntly that he didn’t think there was someone more handsome than him in the whole wide world. Robyn couldn’t quite suppress a snort at this outrageous comment, and shook her head. Only for that she’d like to prove him wrong! Only to see his face when she told him he had lost in her eyes. The problem was that wager-wise it wouldn’t make much of a difference, since they had more or less agreed on the same thing. And then she needn’t forget that this was all nothing but a game anyway. Even if she one day got to see Prince Arthur face to face, there was no telling if she ever would see Gwaine again, and it wasn’t very likely. During their banter, they had both lost touch to reality it seemed, and somehow had replaced a mere possibility with a likely future. Or had that just been her fault? Robyn realized she was even more confused than ever before, and she didn’t like that feeling at all. It was enough that she now started to see more in Gwaine than he probably deserved, and she didn’t want to be confused on top of that! So when he promised her he would think of something, she only smirked and nodded. “Looking forward to it.” She might be a good actor, able to hide a certain amount of confusion and other feelings from a keen eye, but she could not hold a long sermon that way, not without being firmly established in the role she was trying to play here, the girl that was on top of this situation. And she wasn’t firmly established, not yet, and the chances became slimmer and slimmer with every point Gwaine scored on her.
There was another point he had laid out in front of her like a bait, waiting to be swallowed by her to turn into another score for him. “What do you think I am?” … Oh he was a sly one, was he not? Of course she had known that before, but he just gave her another perfect example. Without swallowing her own bait, he lay out one for her, trying to get her in the tight spot where she would try to estimate him and probably fail. Then he would regain his superior air again and the little game was probably lost for her. But what if she did not swallow the bait, as she had no intention to? How could she refuse though to say anything? It was really a quite complicated matter. “Well, for one, you are incredibly sure of yourself, and I wonder where that comes from”, she began, deciding to not give him some tagline right away. “You’re a vagabond and a charmer, and you live life to the fullest wherever you can reach it. All that leaves only one conclusion for me”, now Robyn leant forward, lowering her voice. “You are… an original piece. I don’t think there’s a better word for it. Just you wait, maybe ina few years time there will be only one tag to combine everything I called you out on whenever it is found in other people: ‘you’re acting like a ‘Gwaine’”
She should have guessed she would not score the last point in this game, since Gwaine was always one step ahead of her, it seemed. His point was valid, yes, she was still fiddling with his fingers, but she also wouldn’t do him the favor of retracting her hand now quickly, that would be like the admission of guilt, and she wasn’t guilty of anything. Instead, she smirked at him and looked him up and down for a moment, as just the right comment came into her head. Sometimes she really could be grateful for all the training Raven put her and the others through, concerning spontaneous witty reactions to things the crowd might throw at them. “Your hand…?” she asked and let her gaze linger on his whole frame a little bit longer, “no, I don’t think so.”

Gwaine couldn’t be any more in control of this situation, or smug about it, if he tried. Robyn was completely eating out of the palm of his hand, and he was enjoying the sensation. It had been far too long since a woman had been this easily in his control, and really he had missed it completely. Though he never had a problem with women having a bit of spunk, or self empowerment, he had been running into too many women recently who were so stubborn to not give into his charms that he had thought that he had been losing his touch completely, and that wouldn’t do at all. Of course he wasn’t thinking about other women right now, he was thinking and having to concentrate on Robyn. He would have to think of something now to complete this little wager, hmm. He never was one to disappoint a woman, and he wasn’t a good loser either, so he was sure he would come up with something. Whether Robyn wanted to go along with his suggestions was a completely different story of course. That all depended on how free Robyn was really. Most women guarded their virtue with their lives, but Robyn seemed to be from the other branch of womanhood, and that was only agreeable in his eyes. After all, how would women know if they were truly being pleasured by their husbands if they had only ever lay with them? It was utter madness, and above all it was a false economy, therefore Gwaine took his education of women incredibly seriously. “I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.” He said with a rather smug grin.
Unsurprisingly, Gwaine was quite taken in by people in the future being referred after him. He had been to quite a fair few places after all, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he had left a lasting impression. Gwaine didn’t really know anyone else who had taken up the lifestyle he had to the entirety that he had. After all, he couldn’t think of a Kingdom that he hadn’t been to. Gwaine nodded at Robyn’s words, and took a piece of her hair and curled it around his finger before releasing it, “Well when I hear the expression used by the hundreds, I will know where it has come from.” He smirked at her and sat back in his chair again. She wasn’t being subtle at all about the way he was obviously making her feel. In a way that made it easier, but it was a little less fun as well.
Though Robyn professed she didn’t find his hand desirable, he was starting to think she just desired all of him. Though that was mostly his ego, it was also because of the way her eyes were starting to drag over his figure. He wasn’t complaining of course, it fed his ego a bit too much. He just continued to smirk at her, and felt himself get more and more confident and sure of himself. “Then is there anything in particular that you do find desirable... I do have more redeeming features than just my hand.” She still hadn’t let go of his hand, so he smirked down at his touch, and just settled down in his seat waiting for her words.

Ugh, curse her stupid heart! Now she had maneuvered herself into a blind alley she wasn’t about to get out of easily. The only way out led past Gwaine… and he surely would take full advantage of that fact. They had been talking about future and bets and all those things, but somehow Robyn couldn’t help but think their banter had taken on a much much more imminent note by now. As if they were not talking about what ifs but only waiting for someone to severe the wager from the bet and make it the sole cause of their encounter. But whoever the one would be making this first, deciding step, Robyn was still adamant it would not be her. However, if HE chose to do it, would she be able to resist for long? Maybe it was time she stopped this… returned to the Raven Pack and drew a line under this conversation. But that of course would be rather… unsatisfactory in its own way. There was a serious downside in doing such talk… it made the cravings for action rather imminent, especially if it was with a man such as Gwaine, surely not bad to look at and by the way he held himself quite experienced. And because he was that way, she doubted also that she WOULD be disappointed, come time and opportunity, which only made it worse in a way. “Well, if I should be, I’ll take my sweet revenge”, she retorted with a confident smile, hiding her confusion as best as she could.
Raising her brow challengingly, Robyn leaned back in her chair, a fine smile playing around her lips. For a moment, she felt confident again she would not give into him so readily after all, wherever that sudden boost of self-discipline had come from. Maybe it was his obvious suggestion that she would be the one enhancing his fame, which she had no intention of doing. She had only spoken in a general sense, believing that someone somewhere might do it. “You really think me so predictable?” she challenged him, grinning. “I doubt there will be a play of the Raven Pack about you anytime soon, and otherwise… I’m not exactly planning to make this conversation public.”
The next round of their little battle of wills and wits was on now though, and it didn’t get any easier. They had both raised the stakes to impossible heights and every jump higher could be their immediate undoing. It was good she was so versed to walk on unsteady ground, or else she would have long since chickened out. This was a trap, this question he asked, but she had no intention of falling into it. Not as long as she could help it! She leaned back as well, and as such broke their immediate contact. It was easier than she had feared it would be, which was a good sign. Maybe she wasn’t as much of a goner yet? “Do you now, really?”, she asked in feign innocence. “Hmm… let me see. Your nose is a bit big in that face, though. But all in all… acceptable, in any way.”

Gwaine was starting to enjoy his time with this woman. Nothing about her was disagreeable, and her reactions made him feel like he hadn’t been losing his touch, and that his months of not really having much luck with women was more to do with them than himself. Gwaine sunk his lips into his ale once more, missing the sweet nectar upon his lips, and just smiled at Robyn. He supposed that she might just be bluffing with her sweet words, it was not hard to think of such retorts if the woman in question was confident enough. It was quite curious that Robyn named her revenge as ‘sweet’ would that mean that the revenge was sweet for him or for her? Now that was something to think on really wasn’t it? “Why do you say sweet revenge?” He asked, pressing his lips together and leaning slightly towards the woman, “What would you have in mind?” Now Gwaine was interested to see whether Robyn would actually answer him, or whether she would just give him some sort of generic answer like all her previous ones had been. If she really wanted him to, Gwaine could describe everything that he had in mind, even if her ears were too delicate to hear some of the details, because that was what Gwaine was like. He didn’t care much for offending people in that respect, and he was sure it was nothing Robyn hadn’t heard before anyway.
Gwaine raised an eye brow at Robyn, well, he thought he predictable, but not for that reason. He hadn’t expected a play about him, so he would be lying to say he was disappointed. He doubted she would want to tell her friends or brother what sort of conversation they had been having. She would probably want to forget all about him after today, but again Gwaine wasn’t that put out. He was used to it, because that was how it always was. He never stuck around in one place to be attached to one woman for too long. “Who said I wanted a play written about me?” He asked, no doubt she thought he would be disappointed about not having words written about him, it wasn’t why he acted like he did, “And pray tell, why should this conversation remain quiet?” He cocked his head to the side a little and watched for Robyn’s reaction, perhaps she wasn’t as used to all of this as he had thought.
His nose? Well, that was a little bit insulting wasn’t it, so he raised another eye brow and just pressed his lips together. That hadn’t been what he had been after, but he supposed that she wasn’t just going to hand this to him on a plate really was she? “Just acceptable? My my, you must have exquisite tastes to deem me in such an average light.” He pointed out, and smiled at her while sipping on his ale, wondering how much longer she was going to keep her feeling to herself.
