Arthur was sitting at the edge of his bed, his feet on the trunk that was at the foot of his bed. His mind was deep in thought as he looked at the ring in his hands. It was not just any ring: it was his mother's. The one he had given to Guinevère when he proposed to her. The one that seemed to symbolize nothing for she wore it when she betrayed him. And yet . . . right now, it was all he could think about. He was to wed Princess Mithian of Nemeth, and the two had been getting along wonderfully. She had all the qualities of a great princess who would be queen, as well as a wife and general person. She was caring, had a good sense of humor, nurturing, considerate . . . yet, she was not Guinevère. He had been trying to push his feelings aside and be more rational; act as a king should. His emotions should not be clouding his judgment and yet, he felt like they were now.
What could he do? Wait for who knows how long to forgive Guinevère? Welcome her back, unsure if he could trust her again? But, what was the alternative? Marrying a woman that he did not love. He had refused marrying Elena for that exact reason, because she deserved to marry someone who loved her. Surely Mithian deserved the same. Yet at this point, how could he refuse the princess? She had come here to honor the truce they would create through the sacred bonds of marriage. He had to wed her. Didn't he? And yet . . . he could not tear his gaze away from the ring he held between his fingers. Thinking of her . . . and not just how she had betrayed him, but realizing that he still and always would love her.
Setting: Starts in the castle in Arthur's chambers, may move around Time of Day: Evening Timeline: During The Hunter's Heart What If: Arthur and Guinevère's son Amaren, was sent back in time to save his mother and father from an assassin that was also sent back to kill them. Tag: Guinevère

Amaren, son of Arthur Pendragon, hit the ground so hard that everything went black for about forty seconds. Groaning he rolled to his back and mental swore to glare at Emrys for the rest of that old man's days. Once he could breath again, Amaren rolled back over and pushed up from the ground. Sucking in deep breaths, he kept looking around, trying to get his bearings. Everything looked . . . . newer.
Not really newer but the castle held no signs of damage nor, rebuilding. He needed to find his parents before anyone else did. That was why he was here. In a more recent--and idiotic--plot to get what she thought was her's the witch Morgana had sent an assassin back in time to kill his parents while they were weaker and not expecting it.
As he moved to his belly, and pushed to sit on his knees he noticed that he was in his parent's room--but it was barren from any real signs of his mother, or any woman. Turning his head, he saw one half of the couple he was looking for. Arthur Pendragon--but years younger then he had ever seen him. Dressed in chainmail, and a red cape bearing the Dragon that was the Pendragon seal, Amaren slowly stood, but had to reach a hand out to a wall to maintain balance. He noticed the man coming in from behind his father and drew his sword, tossing it to Arthur. "The door behind you!" He fell back against the wall, still trying to stop seeing double, while doing his best to do his job while here.

Arthur leaped up off the bed in surprise when a young man appeared from no where in his chambers. He looked at him in surprise, immediately noticing that he was clad in a knight's uniform, yet he was no knight of Arthur's. Arthur knew his men, he knew their names, families, what severe injuries they had suffered . . . they were his brother in arms. And this man, was no brother of his. Before he could say or do anything, the shouted something and tossed a sword his way. Arthur instinctively reacted, catching the sword and spinning around, stopping the attack just in time. It was not much of a fight, since the attacker had been relying on the element of surprise to defeat Arthur, so he soon fell to the ground, never to arise.
Still holding the sword, Arthur turned back to the intruder, knowing that only one of the threats had been eliminated. "Who are you?" Arthur demanded, his voice holding strong authority in it. He was an impostor no doubt, one who had stolen a knight's uniform. And yet, there was something incredibly familiar about him. Something that Arthur could not place . . . as if he knew him. Had they met in the past? Arthur couldn't help but just stare, trying to place him, yet ensuring that he did not lower his guard so kept his sword point toward the intruder.

Amaren watched his father end the man, and Amaren moved to get a good view of his face. Not the man sent back. Though he was seeing straight again, and could now at least stand. Looking back at his father, he straighten his shoulders and took a good look at him. In his younger days, Arthur still looked older then Amaren. They were of the same height, and were Arthur's hair was light and straight--Amaren's matched his mother's and was thick with heavy waves in it. His eyes were dark, but he had his father's bone structure, and jaw line.
"I am a knight from your future. I am not quite how long in the future. I was sent back to stop Morgana's assassin that she sent back." He looked around the room again, as if trying to judge the year. He did not want to give too much away but he also knew he needed to give his father enough to prove who he was. And his mother. His mother! Pushing from the wall, he looked toward the door. "Have you married yet? The queen is in danger too." He had to save his mother--his father could fight and protect himself, but his mother could not. She would not even know this was happening.
