Guinevère was Queen. The sole ruler of Camelot. For a girl born to a blacksmith and servant it was higher than she ever should have rose. She had never set out for power, and now she had the highest power in the land. The thought of doing this alone was one was always one she feared and now it was a reality. Her beloved husband was dead. And she had to live the rest of her life without him.
This might have been easier had the kingdom found peace after Arthur's victory with the Saxons. But the victory was short-lived. Using the momentum of the final battle, the Saxons continue their push in to Camelot. At first it was small things. Borderland villages were attacked. Farms were burned. And as time went on the attacks became more targeted and closer to the Citadel. Sir Leon, the general of the army of Camelot, fought hard to keep the kingdom out of their hands. Yet their tactics and fighting were unlike the ones that Camelot had seen before. Without Morgana at their head they brought a new ruthlessness to the war.
Merlin had not been seen for many months. Knowing of his magic Guinevère had hoped that he could save Arthur, and when he couldn't she had hoped that he could save Camelot. Yet as the days turn to weeks and the weeks turn to months there have been no sign of him. Not only had she lost her beloved husband but she feared she'd also lost her friend. Gaius assured her that Merlin needed time, but time was something Camelot did not have.
And then 6 months after the last great battle, Guinevère face the greatest trial. An invasion. The Saxons laid siege to the Citadel. With her General away fighting, Guinevère was faced with decisions that she never had to make before. There was a limited food stored. They can last for a while but they could not last forever. The siege lasted for three weeks, before they got inside. The market and lower town was lost first, and Guinevère sent the knights to protect the people. It was then that the leader of the Saxons enter the throne room to demand her surrender . . .

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT It has been one year, or so he had been told. Arthur had been dead. Or to him, what was a deep sleep. And even in such a state, he could hear distant voices. None of it made any sense, and he was powerless to do anything. It wasn't until he emerged from the water with a gasp that he was finally awake. The water, as if moving with him -- for him -- washed him ashore so that he was not exerted from any swimming. Glad in his chanmail, armour and cape. Disorientation consuming him as he tried to piece things together. It had been voices that lured him out of whatever state of deep sleep -- or death -- had consumed him.
Albion needs you . . . You are the once and future king . . . It is your destiny and it had been those voices that urged him into the water and out. So that he was conscious, so that he was looking back at the water, confused. Yet, there was a presence and Arthur could feel it before looking at him. Merlin. Arthur would find out that the voices, had been the three Queens of Avalon. That his body had been preserved, guarded, until he would rise again and apparently, now was the time. Merlin explained everything and while Arthur did not understand this world of magic, he was inevitably a part of it. But right now, there was no time to waste. Arthur was told of the threat of Saxons taking over Camelot; destroying all that they had been. And that was when Arthur began to slowly understand. It was only the first chapter of their lives that they had completed.
Albion had been born but now, it was to thrive. Morgana was dead, but it was only the end of one era. Now, it was time to start another. Before they left, a hand emerged from the water gripping Excalibur, something Arthur would need and apparently, was destined to have. On the way to the city, Merlin filled him in on all that had happened. Talks of destiny and fate. Magic and sorcery. Good and evil. Arthur's knowledge of such things was still limited, yet he could not ignore what he had believed to be eternal slumber . . . only to be risen again. So it was fated. For when Albion's need was greatest, Arthur Pendragon would rise again: the Once & Future King.

Her knights were scattered through the city--a mistake she now knew, but she couldn't have left the people ti fight alone. No matter what befell the kingdom, she had to try to save as many of the people as she could. She'd failed Arthur, but she wouldn't fail the people as well. Saxons were closing in, and there was no way that they could old them off. Not for long at least. Which is why she gave the order to protect the people as the Saxon's moved toward the throne room--she'd be the distraction needed to allow the people to escape.
Erikson, the leader of the Saxons, moved into the room with a large amount of his men. Guinevère stood before the throne, and lifted her chin. She could lead the people in peace time; yet war was something she knew nothing about. Her general, Leon, was away and unable to get back into the city with the Saxon army between them. Percival stood just behind her, having decided that he would be her guard--or die trying. And she feared that at this point they would all die trying.
'You're kingdom has fallen, your majesty.' He called toward her as they moved closer. Percival took a few steps forward to keep himself between them and her. She wanted to order him back, and away, but she couldn't. She understood his job. The importance of the knights. "Land does not fall to men. Camelot will stand strong." She told him, knowing that unlike before there was no heir, no prince waiting to become king. The Pendragon era ended with her. Ended with Arthur.
"It will rise again." Erikson moved even closer, and Percival pulled his sword. 'No, this is where it dies. This is Saxony now. Rules by the Saxons. Your old ways are dead. It's time for a new era.' He looked at his men, then back at her. 'Kill them. Erase all claims to the throne.'

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT On the way to the city, Merlin filled him in on all that had happened. The conversation about Merlin's magic was also a necessary one and while Arthur knew it would take time to get used to it, there were more pressing concerns. Arthur could see it from a distance. The way the Saxons had taken over. War had taken over. Again. The fear of what could -- and may have -- happened to Guinevère made his steps hurried and determined. Fortunately, with Merlin at his side, they were able to get to the citadel, and well, Arthur would leave the rest to him. His duty, was to the queen.
Discovery that they had taken over the castle only made him more desperate. He charged through whatever Saxon stood in his way -- magic helping him with the aid of his companion -- until he made it to the entrance of the castle. Arthur knew that there would be more Saxons in the city than the castle itself so his magic was better suited there. So he made his way through, slaying any man that came in his way. There was only one logical place that they would be and when Arthur came across the Saxons in the hall way by the closed door, he knew that was where their leader was. He only hoped -- prayed -- that he was not too late. The clanging of swords filled the otherwise silent hall and when the fourth man fell, Arthur pulled his sword from him and faced the door. With his arms gripped on the hilt of the mythical sword, he raised his foot and kicked the door open, immediately stepping through it.
The first person he saw . . . was Guinevère. And relief did not even begin to describe how he felt. She was alive, and with a quick look, she was unharmed. As was Percival. Though . . . Arthur had to remind himself that his return was . . . unexpected. Though while he felt no passage of time, it had apparently been a year since . . . his death. His eyes went to who he presumed to be the leader, a look of anger on his face as the men that surrounded him stood in a stance that showed they were ready to fight. Arthur supposed now was good a time as any to introduce himself. "I am Arthur Pendragon," he announced. "King of Camelot." Because . . . he was apparently the Once and Future king. This, being the future he assumed. "And you will stand down." His voice full of authority and warning. For as Merlin took care of the city, Arthur would deal with the origin of this threat: their leader.

Guinevère watched as the men began to approach, and her chin lifted just as Percival's sword lifted higher. The other knights, the few who were here, pulled their swords as well as it appeared the room was about to become a blood bath. She didn't even have the chance to feel cold, as she reached for the sword near her--she could fight some. She would not go out quietly! She would----
The doors thundered opened, letting the omnibus sound echo off the stone walls, as everyone paused to look toward the intruder to the scene. And then, Guinevère didn't hear much else for a moment. Because for a moment, there was nothing else. "I am Arthur Pendragon," the room tilted, but she stayed standing still. "King of Camelot." She felt Percival moving back toward her, and faintly saw him looking between her and . . . . and . . . . The other knights seemed to be as well, as if not sure what was happening--yet she saw none of it as she could only stare at the man walking into the room. "And you will stand down." And for a second, they almost did.
No one moved. Everyone stared at him for a few long moments. Saxon. Camelotian. Knight. Queen. Warrior. Even Erikson the ruler of the Saxons. Everyone stood there for a extended silent moment. Faint battle cries from the cities fight could be hear through he windows, but in this room, and in this moment---everyone stared.
The Saxon's knew who he was. They'd fought him before. They knew he'd died--everyone knew he died! Merlin TOLD her he was dead! She'd trusted him! Was this her husband? Was this the real Arthur Pendragon? Guinevère looked over his face, and saw the same face. She looked over his body, and couldn't see much of it's shape but he held Arthur's stance and---
Excalibur! Only one wielded it! Arthur Pendragon! Arthur Pendragon, True King Of Camelot! Arthur! Was! Alive! She didn't know how or why or . . . . she didn't know! Yet she knew it, by his face and by his sword, and by his voice--She prayed she wasn't wrong! She prayed this wasn't a trick! Yet she had to pick a side, and she rather take the risk of hope, the the risk of death. "To the king!" She called, out and just as swiftly Erikson gave the order, 'KILL HIM!'
And just as swiftly as the room had fallen silent and still; it flooded with battle cries and chaos!

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Shock filled the room. Arthur couldn't say he was surprised. It was understandable. He had even been shocked when he was practically risen from the dead. But he did not relieve his stance; in fact, he didn't budge at all. Completely still. Completely guarded. Watchful, ensuring no one tried a move. And then . . . it finally happened. Guinevère's words filled the air mixed with the Saxon leader's. Two opposite orders. One to protect. One to kill. Arthur immediately raised his weapon to block the first attack, as the rest of the knights -- Percival included -- found with what seemed like renewed strength and purpose. The sea of red capes overcoming the dark coloured attire of their enemies, and the Saxon's numbers dwindled while the floor of the throne room starting to become covered with bodies.
Arthur's eyes kept watch of the leader, but he became scarce . . . until he was completely gone. The king didn't have time to search for he defended each attack, striking down each enemy, and all the while, keeping his eyes on Guinevère to make sure that she was out of harm's way. Instinctively, he controlled the fight. Manoeuvring it so that each threat he eliminated, he took a step closer to Guinevère, until he stood in front of her, his back facing her. Enough space in between them so that she was not within distance of his sword nor in harm's way. But close enough so that he could serve as a shield should anyone try to make a move towards her. The cries of battle echoed in the room, until it became to diminish. More and more. Arthur pulled the sword out of what he belatedly realized was the last body, watching it crumble lifelessly to the floor.
And then . . . there was silence. An almost eerie silence as he felt all eyes on him once more. Part of him wanted to go after Erikson. The other part of him . . . knew he needed to be here. He then, finally turned to look at Guinevère. Eyes taking in her sight, relief continuing to wash over him to see . . . that she was alright. That she was safe. That . . . he had almost been too late. Truth was he didn't even know what to say to her. What could he say. He had been gone . . . dead for a year. He couldn't ever imagine losing her and yet, he had broken all those promises of always being there with her. Of never leaving her. So once again, instinct and emotion took over as his sword fell from his grasp, and he took only a couple of steps towards her while wrapping his arms around her, and hugging his wife.

The battle started, and everyone moved faster, and with more energy then before. Each swing of a sword was more powerful; and each man was a more personal mission. No longer did the room seem to be fighting to stall, but to live and to win. It was stronger then any encouraging talk she could have given them--to see their king there fighting with the sword that proved he was the once and future king. She stood there, on the step that held her above the others and watched him fight. Watched him move, and swing the blade of destiny. Arthur. He moved like him, and sounded like him. He fought like him. She wanted nothing more then to bli--
The sword getting close to her snapped her out of her stupor, and she lifted the sword to block the attack, and fought with her knights. His knights. Their knights. She would look toward HIM every change she got (almost afraid he wouldn't be there) and it seemed he was the eye of the storm now. Moving toward it's center.
She took a step backwards, and turned when she head someone approach--Him. Arthur! His back toward her and she realized now what he'd been doing. He was moving toward her. Not going to the center of the fight, but putting himself between the fight and her. She paused, watching his fight, the way he moved, the way he handled the sword--something she'd watched for more years then she had gotten to love him. The sword glimmered int he light of the room. She knew the man, She knew the fighting style, she knew the sword--yet it was like she was looking at him from a distance. As if she wanted this to badly to be him that she was afraid to trust it. Afraid that if she did then it would be a trick--or worse, it wouldn't and she'd loose him again.
The room slowly fell quite as the fighting ended. Until only Camelot knights stood tall, and the rest where dead, unwake, or surrendering. Kneeling after their certain victory. HE turned to face her, and she gripped her sword tighter--not in fear but as if it would support her when she fell. They stared at each other, and he tossed THE sword down before walking toward her. It was when the emotion finally broke--the moment he touched her. Her face crumbled as it pressed into the cool metal, and his arms--the thick bands of straighten that she'd known so well, wrapped around her. Her hands came up around him and held him tighter, her sword dropping loudly to the stone ground. She knew she was crying. Queens didn't cry in court! Yet in this moment she wasn't a queen--she was a wife! His wife! And even though she was afraid to trust that he was here, she still weeped with gladness that he was.
She prayed this wasn't a trick, that this was really Arthur. She wanted to feel his body, and not the cold mental, and she hated his chain mail in this moment; even though it was what kept him alive in the last few moments. Pulling back just enough to look into his face, she blinked up at him. She wasn't sure what to say. Please be real?

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur wished he could hold her forever. He wished they could go somewhere private and that he could explain everything to her. But . . . time was of the essence. They weren't completely out of the darkness yet. Still. He could not help but selfishly bask in the warmth of her embrace. Just as it often did when with Guinevère, the rest of the world faded and she became the centre of his. Yet, this reunion was unlike all the others. All the other close calls, and fear of losing each other. For, he had truly been lost. He had died. His resurrection was still something that baffled the king despite the explanation Merlin gave.
When she drew back, Arthur looked into her eyes. The same softness that was reserved for Guinevère. Only Guinevère. He raised a hand to wipe a few tears away from her cheek, slightly smiling before it faded. He wanted to speak to her, to reassure her, but soon enough, he could practically feel everyone's eyes burning on him. He turned at the man who approached. Percival. Arthur gave a small smile but it was clear on the man's face that he didn't quite know what to make of Arthur. Taking a slow breath, he turned so that he was facing everyone before him, though still stood next to Guinevère. "I know you all have questions," he announced to them. "And they will be answered." He could promise them that too. That he would explain them to the best of his ability, even if he could not truly understand the extent of magic.
"But we are not yet out of the darkness." There was still threat upon them. "Merlin--" Emrys, apparently, but to Arthur, he would always be Merlin. Speaking of his magic was not something Arthur was used to so it still felt odd, but he showed no sign of the discomfort. Perhaps discomfort, wasn't even the right word. "Is pushing their forces out as we speak." With, magic yet Arthur figured everyone would already know that. "Let us lend aid in the task and show them the true strength of the knights of Camelot." He could see the confusion dwindle, placed on hold as everyone was reminded of the threat of Saxons. Arthur reached down for his sword, holding it up high in the air.
"For the love of Camelot!" The knights chanted it back and turned to charge out of the city and ensure the castle was protected. Arthur then took advantage of the fact that he had a moment alone with Guinevère . . . and Percival, who still seemed shocked and hesitant. Rightfully so. "I know the impossibility of this," he acknowledged, well aware of how difficult this was to believe. But he wished to assure them that there was no trickery. No evil ploy at hand. "My return was . . . prophecized." He wasn't sure if that answered or raised more questions. "That when Albion's need was greatest, the king would return." And with the threat of Saxons and who knew what else, he was glad for it . . . seeing the danger Guinevère had been put in and knowing, it was his actions -- and inactions -- that had placed her in such danger.

He turned to address the knights. Her knight, or his knights--she wasn't sure any longer. The way he looked at her, and when he'd touched her cheek . . . .
The knights turned to help Merlin--who was returned as well? Merlin had been gone for a while now. All but one left. Percival. The man who had taken up the role of her guard. Perhaps one of her dearest friends now, as they both had come from similar backgrounds and ended up here. She wasn't sure of he was staying because he was concerned for her, or if he was trying to adjust to seeing his friend as well. Perhaps both.
She glanced over at her friend, before looking back at Arthur. "I don't understand," she told him, wanting so much to believe it was him! She believed it, yet there was a fear that this wasn't really him. A fear of how much she wanted this. Of how much it would hurt if this wasn't true. She wanted his touch again, but her body felt heavy under the shock of seeing him. "Prophecized?" She asked, trying to understand. He was meant to pull the sword from the stone? He was meant to come back from the dead? He was meant to save Camelot?
Her fingers finally lifted to reach out to touch his arm, needing to feel that he was alive--though she felt nothing under the chain mail and hated it. So instead she lifted her hands to touch his cheek. He felt so real! "Arthur," it was both a statement that she was believing it was him; and a question in a way.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT He knew that this was a very confusing time. A time to fear what the eyes beheld. He couldn't even begin to imagine what she had endured. She had married him to be his wife, not queen. And all those promises of never leaving her had been broken. At least for this past year. She was searching for answers; for want of this to be real. He could see it in her eyes. Hear it in her voice. She touched his arm and the fond memory of her forbidding chainmail quickly entered his mind. He knew he didn't have a lot of time; they still have to stabilize the city and ensure the threat was pushed out for the time being. So, he needed to convince her.
Yes, he could spout off the prophecy and go on about fate, destiny, and how he was returned. He could use words to rationalize all this; to help make sense of it. Or . . . he could do as she always encouraged him to do. Follow his heart. Speak from his heart. Show, what was in his heart. He turned to properly face her, his fingers cupping her chin as he titled her head up, while lowering his own until their lips met. The kiss was soft, but lingering. Gentle, but still held emotion. And finally, easing out of it, he slowly opened his eyes, a softness in them. An expression he had only ever for her. "You have always had a good heart, Guinevère, A strong heart," he said with an equally soft tone of voice to match his gaze. "Trust in it, and tell me what you believe." Whether he was returned, or whether this was a ploy.

Guinevère watched him as he moved around to face her. He looked into her face and then---and then he kissed her! Her heart beat harder, and she felt the kiss in her fingers and toes and most importantly her heart! Arthur! It was Arthur! No one could know just how to kiss her like that! Only Arthur ever could make her feel this way! She knew it now! She knew it was her husband!
He slowly broke the kiss, and her eyes stayed closed for a moment. Slowly they opened to look up at him s he spoke of trusting her heart! Stepping closer to him, she stretched to her toes to kiss him once more! This kiss wasn't as gentle, but one born of the joy of seeing him again, and the ache of missing him for a year! It was stronger, and when it ended she lowered to her toes. It was clear in her face: she believed him. "You're here," she breathed, still in surprise and shock.
Which also brought on the fear that she could loose him again in this battle! Turning to look at Percival she spoke. "Lead the men. I will stay here with my husband." Percival looked between them, before giving her a nod and turned to hurry out.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT He could see it in her eyes. She believed him! Relief washed over him but only momentarily for she moved to kiss him again and he was consumed with the over powering sensation of her touch. One that he never grew tired of. One that they did not have enough time to explore with one another. After all the time they waited, they were given only four years . . . yet now, he hoped for many more. He immediately returned the kiss, breathing into it as his arms wrapped around her to hold her close. A kiss for a true reunion. When it reached its inevitable end, she spoke of how he was here, and Arthur's lips curled into a soft smile. When she turned to look at Percival, he belatedly followed the action, his friend reaching over to take hold of Arthur's arm in a shake.
Arthur smiled at him, his contact with Guinevère broken for only a moment as they hugged, yet he was given clear orders, and Arthur said nothing to contradict them. He watched his friend leave, before turning to look back at Guinevère, taking her hand in his. His other hand moved to her cheek, gently caressing her soft skin. "I must go out there," he told her. The people needed to see the king. But he was not going to leave her alone in the castle. "Let's go out together, and see this battle ended." From the battle cries he could hear, they were already victorious. But, Arthur wanted to be sure. Because once these pressing matters were dealt with, he could finally have some privacy with his wife, to properly explain what had happened and to learn of what had happened here in Camelot this past year.

He embraced Percival before the kngiht left. She knew leaving her here had been hard for him, but that he was of better use to help make sure the battle ended in their favor. With Merlin out there, this could not end as badly as sh had once assumed it might. "I must go out there," Her body turned cold, when he had just warmed it with his kiss. No! "Let's go out together, and see this battle ended." No.
She'd been Queen for five years now, and she was comfortable giving orders. "No," she told him, her heels digging into the ground, as if bracing herself for him to attempt to walk away from her. Though she knew if he wanted too, that she'd be hard pressed to stop him. Strong she might be, he was a warrior. He'd trained for years and was considerably stronger then her. "No, word will spread. You are safer here." The last battle he had ridden into, he had never came out of. She hadn't even been given a chance to say goodbye! She'd been given a ring, and a promise that Merlin was going to try and save him--only to have Merlin return with tears in his eyes! She'd never been able to see his face one last time. Never been able to have that.
And she was going to make sure it didn't happen again.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT No? Twice spoken rejection of his words and he could not help the slight smile that formed on his lips upon her defiance. Though, he could certainly understand where she was coming from. "Guinevère," he began to say, his hand holding hers. He did not want to walk away with her or do something she disapproved of. "I cannot hide within thees walls," he told her. The Arthur that she knew, wouldn't do that. And he wouldn't be the man she fell in love with, if he did.
"But nor will I leave you within them." Meaning, he was not going to walk away from her. He didn't want to leave her, ever again. Though he knew it would inevitable, but right now, with their recent reunion . . . he was in no hurry -- nor would he ever be -- to leave her side. "So please, let us go out together and embrace this victory. Embrace the people. And together, see peace restored to Camelot once more." Together. She had ruled this kingdom without him and he was not oblivious to that. She had been what saved the Pendragon rule, and now, they could once again stand side by side to bring peace to Camelot. Together.

He tried to explain to her what they needed to do. She knew that it would help inspire the people, the knights, the ones fighting. She knew seeing Arthur there would spark a chain reaction that would lift the kingdom from this terror and to hope. She knew this--but she wasn't sure she could do this.
"The last time you went into battle, I never saw you again," she told him, remembering the fear, and brokenness she felt when she was told he was gone. He had hidden out into battle to fight Morgana, and Mordred had killed him. She had been in Camelot. They'd gone from thinking him missing to hearing ht was dead. Merlin had taken the body, and she'd not been able to so anything. No burn him, or build a tomb for him. "I cannot loose you again."

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur's heart ached for her, for all that he had put her through. He didn't know what he would do if he ever lost Guinevère, and had no intention of finding out. But . . . the fact that he'd been lost to her? He wished he could make that up to her, and prayed that he had the rest of his life to do so. "You won't," he said softly.
"I don't believe I returned only to fall again so quickly." There was a slight tease in his voice, though it also held truth. "This time, it will be different." There was no Morgana. They had magic on their side. Yes. It was all going to be different. He hoped he could convince her of that, if only to step out into the courtyard. But, as he said earlier he would not leave without her. "Come," he urged softly. "Let's stand strong together, and show the people their sovereign is with them." Both of them.

He didn't understand, and she wasn't sure that she could make him see. The last time he'd marched off with an army at his back and similar odds--she'd never seen him again. Now he wanted to march toward the same army. Only this time they were int he city. This time the wolves were at their doors. Guinevère closed her eyes, feeling defeat in the need to keep him safe. She knew she couldn't hold him here, and that he was right.
And she hated it, and feared it.
Her hand tightened on his. She didn't smiled at his teasing, but just looked up at him. "If the fight does not turn . . . you will leave?" She asked, knowing there was a chance they would need to escape Camelot. Arthur had done the impossible many times--and she'd see him take the WHOLE kingdom back from an army with 6 men! She'd seen him do it twice even. She'd seen him fight dragons!
Yet, these were before she knew how loosing him felt. She'd go with him, if he agreed. Though Guinevère wondered if he could ever just walk away from his kingdom.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT She asked him if he would leave and . . . he knew it was not that simple. Ever since falling in love with her, he knew where his priorities lay. And yes, there was a time where he had questioned it all. Believing that isolation was better. "I will not leave you Guinevère," told her. "Never again." Whether it was safe or unsafe, he would be by her side.
"Last time, the Saxons had someone leading who used the darkest of magic." Morgana. Arthur had watched her die and all he could feel in that moment, was relief. That if he was to leave this world, at least Morgana would not pose a threat to Guinevère or Camelot any longer. "This time, we and only we, have magic on our side." They always did, but this time was different. It was in part, magic that brought him back. And magic that Merlin used to fight the enemies. "And I promise you, I will do nothing reckless." That he would not make her mourn him twice.

She hated it. She hated that she felt sick over the thought and that she had to let him do it any way. She hated he was right in needing to go out there. Guinevère lifted her hand to touch his face, trying to think of a way to hold him toward her. Trying to think of something to do to change this so hew as kept safe and she'd never had to risk him again--yet she couldn't. She couldn't think of any such thing.
"I love you," she reminded him, needing to say it in case--in case she didn't get another chance. Like she'd not gotten a chance before. Her fingers slowly lowered from his face as she nodded. She'd go with him. She'd stand beside him! Because she was his wife, and his queen! Because it was no longer just his kingdom but their kingdom! She wouldn't ask him do this alone! Her hands tightened over his before letting go as she bent to pick up his sword and hold it palm up to him. "You will need this." She'd take his other, non-fighting, hand in her own. She wanted him to hand his dominate hand free--just in case.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur gently took his sword as she handed it to him, telling him he would need it. Yet it was her former words that stuck with him far more. He leaned forward, lightly kissing her lips, knowing that this would be the last moment they had alone for at least a few hours. "I love you too," he practically whispered. "With all my heart." Another reminder of sentimental words that they exchanged numerous times over the years . . . before he had died. With that, the two stepped outside to finish the fight. And it didn't take a great deal to do so, with the aid of their knights, and magic, the Saxons were already retreating, and Arthur finished off what he could.
When there seemed to be no more trace of them, the knights still scouring the town to make sure, the question of his presence re-arose. How? When? So many questions in their eyes yet none seemed able to find the words. The council was not far behind them, and Arthur spent the next little while, briefly explaining. Merlin corroborated his explanation, telling them that this was destined. They assured a more in depth conversation would take place but right now, they needed to see to the wounded. The night carried on with checking on the injured, seeing how many casualties they had, accepting that the battle was won but the war was not over and . . . still many trying to process the king's return. Yet with the Queen's confidence in her stance with him, they were more inclined to believe it was him.
When exhaustion seemed to take over many, the night reached it's inevitable conclusion where many began to retire to bed. Arthur spent a few moments speaking with Merlin, before he was ready to leave . . . with Guinevère. Yet, he knew he had to see how she felt about this. Moving closer to her, he tried to determine how best to . . . ask. "If it is too much, Guinevère . . . I understand." If him laying next to her after all this time of being dead was too much . . . if she needed time to process all of this . . . he would respect that. Though, he strongly hoped that it was not. For he longed for nothing than to hold his wife in his arms.
