Arthur gave a small chuckle at her tease, knowing that if he was being raised by himself, and being around men like Gwaine and even Elyan at times . . . then he would most certainly learn of how to charm women. "I plan to make him quite the charmer," Arthur said jokingly, though he knew they had plenty of time before they need even think about that. Hopefully, they had plenty of time. She assured him that they would be here all day, and made a mental note to return in the afternoon to borrow Thomas for a little while . . . and of course Guinevère and Amaren if she wished to come. After a few more steps, he scooped Amaren back in his arms and walked over to where Guinevère stood.
"I best get as much done as I can, so that I will be able to come sooner." He didn't want to think about tomorrow . . . only today, tonight. Where they could be a family and focus on the good, rather than the fear of having to leave them tomorrow. He knew it was inevitable, and it only made him dread it all the more. Kissing Amaren on the head, he passed him to Guinevère and once securely in her arms, Arthur leaned forward to kiss her lips. Soon, this would be the reality of their lives but unfortunately for now, it was just stolen moments.

Arthur turned to look at Guinevère as she emerged from behind the screen, a soft smile forming on his lips as he just stared at her; completely mesmerized by her beauty. Until Amaren made a sound, causing Arthur's attentions to divert from her and back to their son. "Doesn't your mother look beautiful," he said to Amaren, though really it was for Guinevère's ears. He put Amaren on the ground, letting their son's small fingers wrap around Arthur's hands so that he could walk and get more practice doing so. Arthur stood behind him, behind over Amaren so that he could help him walk as Amaren's grasp tightened around Arthur's fingers.
"Is this evening still a suitable time to come for Amaren's birthday celebration?" Arthur asked, wanting to make sure that there was no need to change the time. He would need to get all his work done before hand so that once he came, he could just spend the entire night here with them. For he had something important to discuss with Guinevère -- or give her, with some explanation. And he also had a surprise for Thomas, as it was not only Amaren who would be given a gift today.

He smiled when she seemed torn between making sure he received adequate rest, and spending time with him. "You need not worry. This was the most restful sleep that I have had in months." Since the last time he had slept next to her. He could have been asleep for minutes or hours, either way he felt refreshed. Because he had been in a completely serene environment. His smile only grew when she spoke of apple pies and how their son seemed to develop a fondness for it. Even having something as small as this in common with his son, filled him with joy. Physical appearance was one thing, but these sort of preferences were another. "I think so too," he said in full agreement when she determined where he had gained this likeness from. "Which is excellent," he added, lightly lifting him in the air only a few inches before catching him.
"Means we can all enjoy a delicious apple pie to celebrate Amaren's first anniversary of his birth." For while Arthur would miss -- and already missing -- a great deal in Amaren's life, he would not miss this day. Arthur closed his eyes when he felt the softness of her lips on his, the smile immediately returning when she pulled away, his eyes following her as she went to change. Everything felt so wonderful and . . . domestic. Being with Guinevère, with or without the children, made him feel like he was part of a family. He slowly got out of bed, keeping Amaren in his arms as walked around the room to stretch his legs. "So how does it feel Amaren, to be one year old?" Amaren just made little babbling noises that didn't form any coherent words, yet Arthur still loved the sound of them. "Now what does a birthday entail? Lets see, we have food, apple pie, company and . . . hmmm . . . what else am I missing . . . Oh, that's right! And presents!" Even if Amaren didn't quite understand Arthur's words, the enthusiasm in his words were what made Amaren give a sound of excitement.

He smiled when she said that it seemed Amaren liked to wake him. "I don't mind," Arthur said, sitting up more so that his back was rested against the headboard of the bed. He reached over for Amaren, picking him up and holding him so that he was standing on Arthur's lap. "In fact, I hope it does become a habit of his. For there is no sight I would rather wake up to then an image of you and our son." And soon, there would be another baby she would bring into the world that would sleep near them. He only prayed that he lived to see it, or that the war was not so long that he would miss the birth and first moments of their next child's life.
Holding Amaren up, he began to bounce him a little, up and down, for Amaren seemed to have an abundant amount of energy. "Were you able to get enough rest? I can watch him if you would like to sleep more." He could only imagine how exhausting it must be for her; carrying one child, caring for another small infant, and giving enough attention to Thomas. It only proved what he always knew, that Guinevère was the strongest person he knew. Though it made him wish all the more that he was here, taking care of her . . . as it should be. As a husband should care for his wife, and a father should care for his child. Or in this case, children.

The last words that Arthur heard were the best ones he could ever hear. He slept peacefully for the first time in months, and knew it had to do with Guinevère and Amaren's presence, and where they were. In her home. A place filled with love. No nightmares haunted him, nor any dark thoughts plague his mind for the entire night. He just slept, dreamlesslessy for he remembered nothing when he awoke. And even when he was pulled from his slumber, it was in a slow drawn out awakening, rather than an abrupt jolt. He heard his son moving and Guinevère whispering words to him. He slowly and sleepily opened his eyes to see two people that he loved so much, fully awake. Arthur didn't even care what time it was, nor did he know how long he slept for.
He didn't want to waste any more time sleeping, when it was these moments of being awake that he would cherish and miss the most. It would be what gave him the strength to continue to fight this war, for he knew what was waiting for him at home. He spent a few moments, just quietly watching them as he allowed himself to grow more and more conscious, before finally speaking. "Good morning," he greeted with a soft smile, enjoying just watching the woman he loved and their son spend time together.

Arthur wasn't sure how he felt about this. Things were on edge between Camelot and Estecia and while Arthur knew that establishing peace was the most ideal outcome . . . it was not the most likely. The tensions between the two kingdoms were building more and more, and it seemed everyone was just waiting for that one word of war, and it would all commence. For now, Camelot avoided Estecia's lands and vice versa. Unless either were invited under peaceful terms, like right now. King Cenred was to come to Camelot so that the two kingdoms would hopefully come to some terms. Arthur of course was here as he was son of the king, but it was his father that would mostly be dealing with the negotiations. Uther had told him to keep Cenred entertained; to treat him with the utmost respect and keep him in high spirits.
Arthur didn't know exactly what that entailed, but he had yet to determine if it was an easy task, or a difficult one. The king had urgent business to attend to, hence his lacking presence, but Arthur stood there in the grand hall, knights and a few of the council men standing with him. When the doors were opened, Arthur stood straighter and more proper, his eyes resting on Cenred, King of Estecia. Arthur waited until he was closer, within earshot, before speaking to him, even taking a few steps toward the king to formally greet him. "King Cenred," he said in a strong voice. "Camelot welcomes you with open arms," he continued, extending his hand as a further polite greeting; one that would symbolize that Cenred came here as a potential friend, rather than a future enemy.

It was a particularily hot day today and with the intense training session, most men were in desperate need of some nice cool water to help freshen them up. Arthur was well aware that his training of the men could be tiring and vigorous . . . but at the same time, it was completely necessary. The Knights of Camelot didn't gain their reputation just like that. It was through commitment, diligence and hard work. So he expected nothing less. Especially with the audience that seemed to gather around them. Filled with beautiful noblewomen, some of which Arthur's eyes wandered to as he gave smiles to certain ones. He locked eyes with a certain beauty when he suddenly heard his name being called. He knew that tone. He would recognize it anywhere. And the words that followed it were what broke him out of his locked gaze with the young noblewoman and roll his eyes as he turned to a darker haired beauty.
Morgana.
His father had taken in Morgana many years ago now, and she and Arthur had grown rather close throughout those years. While he had never had a female figure of any kind in his life, Morgana was the woman he was closest to. And yes, it certainly helped that she always looked breathtakingly beautiful. Their interactions often consisted of flirtations, teasings, and treating her like the sister he never had, yet one of heart now. Though he supposed one did not flirt with their sister. All he knew was that he was close to her, and cared for her a great deal and . . . he wasn't about to break that expectation to tease her right back, as she did with him just now. He stared at her, with a playful dumbfounded look when she challenged him to a duel. His eyes looked over her, before his expression broke out into an amused smirk with laughter to follow.
"Morgana," he said in a taunting tone. "I wouldn't want to ruin your gown," he said mockingly, for he knew that she was not like most women. She knew how to fight, and was rather skilled with a sword. And while she was extremely feminine, she also had a bit of another side to her. The side that now made her challenge him to a duel. "Nor would I want to embarrass you," he added for further teasing, making sure he was now standing right in front of her. While he enjoyed teasing and mocking her -- and most expected it of them -- he would never disrespect her in public, and would kill any man who dared do so. "So why don't you go back to doing what you do best: brushing your hair and playing with your makeup." While he of course knew her skills were not limited by those . . . he loved provoking her.

It was the day of the battle, though they did not yet know it. They were getting nearer and while everyone was busy, there was a strong tension in the air. Fear. It was pure fear. Despite Arthur's little speech last night to raise spirits and morale, he was well aware of the small chance of success. They were villagers, about to face a small army of raiders. They were ruthless killers and would show no hesitation in killing them. But these villagers . . . Arthur didn't know what was going to happen come tomorrow. What he did know was that no matter what they faced, he would be there facing it with them, and just pray that somehow a miracle came about that would save them all. It was unlikely. He was heavily relying on the strategy since combat strength was not their forte. They could draw in Kanen's men and strike them all at once . . . of course, that was the difficult part. But it was all they had.
Arthur's mind rested on many things, including the future of Camelot if he were to die but he would never regret coming here, for Merlin. Then of course there was the fact that an entire village and all its inhabitants lives were in danger. He had encouraged them to fight for their rights . . . would it have been safer to follow Will's suggestion to just flee? It was not that easy to run away from a life that they created from scratch. From the farm they worked; from the homes they built; from everything they knew. There was just so much to consider and while on the outside Arthur was confident and spreading encouragement, inside, he was so uncertain and quite fearful of what tomorrow would bring. It would claim the lives of the people . . . and those he cared about. A great deal was at stake. Too much.
Everyone was taking a break from the training Arthur was giving them. They had been at it since the early morning and it was now early afternoon. But, it was essential that they learn how to carry a weapon and use it. All he could teach them was the basics, of how to land a mortal blow for that would be what mattered. They would not have time to spar or dance around; they had to strike once and strike hard. Kanen and his men would show no reservations when it came to fighting them, so neither could they. Three people that Arthur had come with were not present during the training. They were busy preparing weapons and getting everything else set in place. But that did not mean they were far from his mind. He saw Guinevère talking to Will, and Morgana close by. He had given Guinevère a short little lesson the day before, but this would be the last opportunity he would have to give them each a bit of one on one training.
Still clad in only half his armor [one around his neck and the shoulder plates on his upper arms], void of the chainmail, with his sword at his side, he began approached them. The others could take a break, but if he did . . . it would be wasted time and a wasted opportunity when he could be showing them how to defend themselves as best he could in a couple days time. At a bit of a distance, he picked up two swords with his gloved hands, one for Morgana and one for Guinevère. Morgana could handle a sword. Guinevère, was someone Arthur was greatly worried for. She had been so reluctant to strike him, even with a stick. Perhaps tomorrow when she was directly in the face of danger, it would be different. With the adrenaline rushing and realizing she had no other choice, maybe she would be able to strike. But, he had to make sure. "Morgana, Guinevère. Come with me please," he told them. It was not an order but a request. He waited a few moments, holding the two swords in his hand before seeing that they would follow, and began to walk towards the edge of the woods surrounding Ealdor.

A future with her and the children sounded all too perfect. Which was why he feared that something drastic would happen that would compromise everything. For their lives had never been ones where everything worked out for the best. The only thing that had remained in order was the fact that Guinevère was physically healthy, as were the children who were brought into this world with no physical complication. He wanted things to be simpler for them . . . but it always seemed that fate had other plans. Still. He would not stop hoping and praying for a time of peace to come: a time for them. "Then I hope I can give you such a gift, and will not stop trying until I do," he teased. When she told him that he should lie down with her, he knew it was probably for the best. For he had a feeling she would not sleep unless she knew he was resting . . . and tomorrow would be another day. A long day, one filled with excitement and difficulty
Letting his actions linger for a few more moments, he stopped pressing her feet, already planning to do the same tomorrow night. He then removed his boots so not to dirty the bed, and lay down next to her, with their small sleeping son between them. His hand returned to her protruding belly, moving over it. This way, he could be close to everyone. The only one missing was Thomas, yet he was close in Arthur's heart. He looked into Guinevère's eyes, wanting to say so much and yet in moment's like these, words were not needed. "I love you Guinevère," he told her softly, wishing he could say it more. Wishing he could announce it to the world by marrying her right away. Wishing . . . for so many things that were so impossible right now. All he could do in the next day was tell her as many times as he could how much he loved her.

He could understand that want for a daughter. Especially with Guinevère having sons and being surrounded by brothers. But he also knew it would not minimize the love she had for another child, as she said. He thought over the idea, finding himself rather fond of it . . . when she brought up the excitement of jousting, which revealed that she had heard him and Thomas. "Oh, you heard that?" He asked with a bit of a sheepish smile. He really needed to work on his timing for such news. It was a good thing he didn't tease Thomas about the surprise present he had for him tomorrow. He continued to smile when she said his actions were creating a positive result, and planned to continue to give her that ease and good feelings for as long as he could as his hands continued to massage her feet, gently but with just enough pressure to create that effect that he hoped was a soothing one.
These were the things he wished he could be doing: pressing her aching feet and ankles every night, making sure she rested properly, getting her whatever she needed at the time, no matter how obscure. He wanted to be a proper husband to her . . . yet his duties as a king were preventing him from achieving that. "Then we will wait after we are married. Enjoy our newly wedded life, enjoy the company of our three children and then . . . when ready, will try to grace this world with a daughter." He could make no promises of their future for he knew not the outcome of this war. What he could promise was that he would not stop fighting to come home. "Besides, the name Anna is far too beautiful not to use," he added, a praise to her mother for that was whom they were naming their hypothetical, or potential daughter after.

Arthur gave a soft smile when she said that it would be another boy, and then explained why. His gaze went back to her belly, wishing he could feel their baby move but at the same time, hoped he or she was resting so that their mother may rest as well. "I hope he doesn't give you too much of a hard time then," Arthur said, still smiling at how it sounded to refer to their child, in this case a he. "We may have to try again for a daughter," he said jokingly. He didn't know if there would be a next time . . . if she wanted a next time. But he did know that as many children as they had -- if fate was kind to him -- them he would love each and every one the same. Immensely; unconditionally. He knew only a few things about an expecting woman, from his experiences with his wife, but of course it was never this intimate.
He did know that their feet tired, and while he had tended to Amaren and Thomas, he now wanted to take care of her.He slid his hand out from under hers and slightly lifted her legs so that her feet rested on his lap, and as he was seated on the edge of the bed, it was a perfectly comfortable angle. He then began to gently massage her feet, so casually as if this was something he did every day . . . when in actuality, this was his first time. Everything felt so natural with Guinevère, even when they made love for the first time. It had been smooth and rhythmic, rather than clumsy and awkward. Even now, doing something this intimate felt . . . right. Domestic. As if they were truly husband and wife.

He smiled proudly when she said he was just like his father, even if referring to his unwillingness to sleep. He took Amaren in his arms when she held him out, and went behind the screen to change. He began to pace around the room, telling Amaren the story of the evil sorcerer who brought all the gargoyles to life. Of course he kept his voice void of too much enthusiasm whilst telling the story, for he wanted his son to sleep from it, not be awoken. He went on to explain how a woman saved the partly unconscious prince, and then dumped a bucket of water on his head to make sure he stayed awake. He was teasing her of course . . . since Arthur had asked her to do it. But it was a fond memory of his. Just as all of his memories with her were. Fond, and once so bittersweet. Now, they were what kept him going. Amaren's blinks were getting longer and more drawn out, until Arthur noticed him not open his large brown eyes again.
He carefully walked over to the bed and gently set him down on the pillows next to her, in the middle of the bed so that he would not fall over the edge. He looked at him for several moments, just thinking of how everything about him was utterly perfect. He then turned his head, sitting back on the edge of the bed next to her. He softly smiled, looking over her. He moved his hand to rest over her belly as his eyes met hers. "How are you feeling?" He asked, knowing that he'd not inquired as to her health since he came. But that did not mean he wasn't concerned about her. About her fatigue, about other symptoms that accompanied a pregnancy. He would forever worry about her and it made him wish all the more that he could be here to take care of her.

Arthur really needed to learn how to properly put Thomas to bed. He put his index finger to his lips, urging Thomas to keep it down so that Guinevère wouldn't over hear them . . . but of course, he was just teasing. With Thomas standing on the bed, asking question after question -- leaving Arthur unsure where to start -- he decided that it would just be better discussed tomorrow. He put his hands around Thomas' ankles and pulled him forward so that he fell back on the bed and his head fell onto the pillows. "I'll answer all your questions tomorrow," he assured him, putting the blanket over him and purposely tucking him in tightly as if in a cocoon, keeping his own hands on either side of Thomas's shoulders to prevent him from moving. "But for now, you need to get some sleep," he told him, moving his hands and loosening the blanket to make him feel more relaxed and ease the teasing and playfulness of the mood in the hopes that Thomas would calm down.
He sat there for a few more moments as Thomas' talking calmed, and soon began to grow more quiet, and slightly slurred . . . until his eyes closed and his breathing eased. Arthur waited a few more moments to be sure, until he was fully convinced that Thomas was asleep. He gently kissed him on the forehead, before leaving his room, and returning to Amaren's. He didn't see his son or Guinevère there, so went to her chambers where he saw them both lying on the bed. "I got one down," he said in a low voice, just in case Amaren was slowly falling asleep. "Hows this one doing?" He further inquired, moving closer to them as he sat on the edge of the bed.

Arthur gave a bit of an exaggerated bow when Thomas and then Guinevère started clapping, applauding his efforts. She then playful pushed Thomas forward, as Arthur took his cue to tuck him in. He handed Guinevère Amaren, lightly kissing the top of their son's head, before turning his attention to Thomas as he said good night to his mother. When he was done, Arthur put his hand on Thomas's back as they walked toward his chambers. Once they arrived, Arthur pulled back his blanket so that he could get inside. "I had mentioned to Sir Leon to start teaching you the rules of jousting, and how to hold a lance," Arthur explained. While Thomas would of course not be competing any time soon, he was old enough to start learning the rules, as he had seemed to show an interest in jousting.
Which was also why Arthur had selected a special gift for him that he would give Thomas tomorrow."It'll be some time until you'll be able to compete, but if you start learning now, you'll have a head start." One from this generation anyway. Arthur didn't want to push him too hard, and force such lessons upon him. But jousting was of course more for good sport than anything. And Leon did not seem like he would go too hard on him or give him too much at once.

Arthur smiled, giving a bit of a chuckle at the image of an undressed Thomas running about. "It seems Amaren is going to be a quick runner as well," Arthur said, just judging from how fast he crawled about. "I definitely think you will have to chase after him Thomas." Especially if Amaren started walking more in the weeks to come and in Guinevère's condition, she would not be able to run very fast . . . or well, run at all. He was only thankful that Elyan, Merlin and the others would also be here to help. Which was why he would not ask them to join him in this war. Should he fall, he wanted the best men to surround his family.
"And I will try my best to keep up with him too," Arthur stated, not about to speak of what memories he would miss, but rather focus on the hope for the future. When Amaren seemed properly dressed, he lifted him up and held him out for Guinevère and Thomas to see. "Well, how did I do?" He asked them, as if seeking their judgment to see how he was when first changing his son at this age. Amaren was getting stronger and moving more and while Arthur couldn't be happier, the fear of not being here to see more was very strong.

Arthur took in their advice, but wasn't too panicked about Amaren fussing. Of course no parent wanted to hear their child cry . . . but he also knew that Amaren wasn't too difficult to calm down when he was upset. "Alright Amaren, how about some team work here," he asked jokingly. Where Amaren's little arms moved, Arthur tried to move the sleeve along with him, but ended up getting his arm stuck in the sleeve in an awkward angle. Amaren started to whimper, as if he was about to cry. Arthur had to quickly react and reversed his actions so that Amaren's arm was through the sleeve again. "You know when I was young, I was apparently quite difficult to change," he began to explain. One particular story was told to him by one of his maids that cared for him when he was a small child.
Arthur knew that Amaren could not yet understand him, so it would really be only Thomas and Guinevère who may understand his story. However, he didn't want Amaren to forget his voice -- though was aware that after months of not being here, it was possible. "I was as stubborn as you," he continued, using the his story to help distract him as Amaren stopped wiggling just enough for Arthur to finally get one arm out of the sleeve. "I struggled so much that at one point my head got stuck in my shirt." Apparently, he'd been all tangled. "I started crying and running about, until I ran into the wall." Not hard, but hard enough for his crying to only grow more out of the shock.
"How did I get stuck?" He said 'repeating' Amaren's question, though nothing was asked. "Just like this," he added as he lifted the shirt up and purposely left it over Amaren's heard, concealing his vision. He left it like that for only a few moments before quickly pulling it down and moving his face closer to his, giving a little "Boo!" At the same. Amaren seemed amused and let out a high pitched laugh. Arthur kept his face close to his son's as he leaned forward and forward, until their noises touched and Arthur gave him a little bop on Amaren's forehead with his own. He then pulled back and began to put his other shirt on top. "After that, I never fussed when getting changed again," he finished, having been so engrossed in his task and moments with Amaren that he nearly forgot that Guinevère and Thomas was in the room.

Arthur smiled when she compared Amaren's hay to Arthur's sword. If Guinevère wished to claim his son, even after his passing then he knew that Amaren would immediately be given the sword. If not, then he would get a bit later in life. He was pulled from his thoughts when Thomas rushed in and questioned king's changing babies. He knew it made no sense now, but would when he learned the truth about Amaren. He gave a playful look of suspicion when everyone seemed to be waiting for him to struggle with Amaren's changing. "Maybe you should get some practice changing him Thomas," Arthur teased.
"For when your mother is feeling tired and needs help." He was of course just teasing the boy, for he knew that Thomas would help as much as he could. And only made Arthur wish he was here to aid them as well. As he began to lift Amaren's shirt, he now knew what they meant by him struggling. And it didn't seem he was willing to let go of his hay. Which only made things more awkward. "Come on now Amaren, everyone's watching and I am trying to impress them," he told him in a low voice, though not too low for the words were meant to be heard by Thomas and Guinevère, to continue the teasing mood.

She claimed that not everything so good came from him, but he knew that was not true. She was the primary one raising their son, for he was forced to leave her in these months. And it may extend to leaving her forever. The topic of his father pulled him from such thoughts. Though it proved what goodness Guinevère had. She was teasing his father, speaking of him in more praise than in a negative light . . . when she of all people had a right to hate him. For having arrested his father and having him killed. Yet she never spoke poorly of him, and it never ceased to amaze him how strong she was. "He's a happy child," Arthur said in a soft voice. "He gets that from your side of the family," he said, his tone void of all teasing.
While Arthur was born into a life of privilege, his family was far more torn and broken. He knew his father loved him, for he sacrificed himself for Arthur and Arthur loved him . . . more than words could say. But their love was expressed through either extremely strong actions, or silence. It was Guinevère's side that was raised with open love and affection. And he knew that their children would have that same happy upbringing . . . because of her. Arthur set him down on his bed as he went to get his night clothes so that he could change him. "I think he gets his stubbornness from both of us," he said as he walked back to them, returning to the teasing mood. "Just look at with how much determination he is gripping that hay," Arthur said, teasingly toward their son.

Arthur couldn't help but chuckle when she described all the ways that their son was like him. Especially the one about Sir Flynt. Arthur knew that he held strong bias against the man, but in the end . . . he was still his brother in arms. "Well clearly Amaren has good instincts," he said with a bit of a cheeky smile. He was pleasantly surprised that it was so easy to joke about something that had caused them both so much distress just months ago. It felt like so much had changed, most of all their circumstances. "And the charming bit, he most certainly got from me," he added with a bit of joking arrogance. Arthur looked down at their son as Guinevère's hand touched the boy's jaw.
"Even if he is not tall, he will still have a strong presence. I have no doubt about that," he said, never wanting it to seem like any trait that Amaren gained from her, would be negative. Arthur loved Guinevère's height, but he also knew that boys wanted to be taller. Either way, Amaren would be strong, mentally, emotionally and physically. For he had the strongest woman raising him, less in the latter sense though the first two kinds were more important. He could only pray that he was able to see his son grow . . . and that tomorrow would not be his last day with his family. "Though his strength of heart, compassion, wisdom and kindness will all be things he gains from his mother," he told her, as they entered Amarne's room.

He could not stop smiling, especially as she explained that Amaren could have all the toys in the market, yet would still remain attached to this piece of hay. "He reminds me of his mother in that way," he began to say, knowing that he should probably elaborate to prove his point. "His appreciation for the simpler things in life." That humbleness and genuine appreciation. It was the why he knew that he could buy all the gold and jewelry in the world for her, yet she would gain more joy if he gave her something like flowers, or cleared his day to spend with her. Her appreciation for things lied not in the expense, but in the thought behind it and the sentiment. He had learned that lesson many years ago, when he'd offered to cook for her and he'd just stolen dinner from the palace.
He broke from his thoughts when she said that he should ready Amaren for bed. "We both should," he told her, wanting to do it with her. With that, he rose to his feet and leaned over, taking her hands in his own to help her to a stand. Once she was on her feet and stable, he leaned down to pick up Amaren, who let out a cry of distress when his hay remained on the floor. "Sorry sorry," Arthur quickly apologize as he hurriedly bent down to pick it up and put it securely in Amaren's small hand again. Immediately, the baby boy was happy once more. "He also is like his mother in this way too; yelling at me when I've done something wrong," he said in a strong teasing tone, once again, thinking back to that time he spent living in her house, when she had scolded him.
