Arthur loved Thomas's enthusiasm for training. To know that he did it out of want and interest rather than obligation. It was all the more reason Arthur had not doubt that the boy would be an incredible knight. "Of course," he answered without an ounce of hesitancy. "We'll have to go first thing in the morning, so we'll be back in plenty of time for Amaren's birthday." A celebration that Arthur did not want to limit by only getting gifts for his son of blood, but also his son of heart. Besides, he had everything planned out in how to present it to him as well. When Thomas seemed satisfied with his answer, he closed his door to get ready for bed.
At which point, Arthur turned to Guinevère assuming that she would need his help to stand. He moved closer to her, kneeling next to her as he smiled. He tried to find the right teasing words to say but found himself chuckling with amusement, rather than attempting to suppress his laughter. "If you like, I can get Amaren ready for bed. You look rather comfortable and I would not wish to disrupt you." He was teasing her of course, his hand moving to rest over her large belly and even leaning down the kiss it, and thus both kissing Guinevère as well as their unborn child. He only broke the embrace when he heard small thuds . . . as their stampeding son crawled toward them, still clutching on to that piece of hay.

Arthur's smile remained in place when Thomas began to explain the story of Amaren's piece of hay. He noticed Guinevère from the corner of his eye, struggling to sit up and had to suppress a small chuckle. Between Thomas talking, Amaren whacking Arthur with the hay, and Guinevère's large belly preventing her from sitting up . . . everything just felt perfect in this moment. And he could answer Thomas' question with great ease. "I can," he assured him. "But its late, and well past your bed time I assume," he said in a slightly questioning tone as he looked at Guinevère to make sure he wasn't assuming too much.
"Why don't you get dressed for bed and we'll come to tuck you in," he offered. "Besides, you'll need your energy for Amaren's birthday celebration tomorrow," Arthur added. When Amaren kept hitting him with the hay, one particular instance poking him in the eye with it, Arthur blew it away. It startled Amaren for a moment, as he stared wide eyed at his father. Arthur blew at the piece of hay again, or more directly in Amaren's face and he just pointed the hay at Arthur's face, as it touched his cheek. Amaren was having far too much fun with this piece of hay.

As soon as Arthur walked in, he heard laughter and talking coming from the main sitting area. He slowly walked toward the room, peeking through the opened door at everyone sitting there: Thomas with Guinevère and Amaren moving about. He smiled at the sight before opening the door to fully appreciate it. "Having a late night party are we?" He asked teasingly, but before he could get another word in, Amaren squalled and came hurriedly toward him; the rushed action making him stumble and fall to the ground. Amaren didn't seem upset, but more so startled as he picked himself back up and resorted to crawling to Arthur with the piece of hay in his hand.
Thomas hurried toward them too, causing Arthur to put his hand on the young boy's shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. He knew he couldn't refer to Amaren as his son in front of Thomas, so kept in mind to avoid using titles like that. Lowering his hand, he moved to his knees, he was in front of Amaren and Thomas, putting his hands out to him so that he could place his tiny ones in Arthur's large palms as he tried to help him stand again."Now whats this new toy you have here?" He asked, referring to the piece of hay. "An early birthday present from Thomas?" He asked jokingly, giving a teasing look to Thomas, before he glanced at Guinevère, smiling at her.

"You loved her?" Not at all. "At the time, I mistook lust and infatuation for love," he told her, not wanting her to think that it had ever been real love. He hadn't known what that was, until he fell in love with Guinevère. And any lustful feelings he had for any other woman . . . had ceased to exist. She asked what happened and Arthur wished he knew more to tell her than what he did. For he could not recall a great deal after having run away with her. "Merlin came after me and . . . apparently, he claims to have knocked me out and dragged me home." Arthur still wasn't sure about that part, but the main thing was that Merlin brought him home. "When I woke up, I couldn't believe what I had almost done. And I knew then for sure that it was not love." It had never been. "I don't know what became of her, or where she is now." He had to admit that he felt bad.
Another woman he had humiliated . . . and he wished he could find her one day and apologize to her for any hurt he may have caused. Though he knew that was not the first woman he had humiliated, nor had it been the last. Thankfully, there would be no more. No more, since the day he married Guinevère. "I'm not proud of my actions," he told her, not wanting her to think that he thought it was alright to have led her on to such an extent, and then just left her without so much as a word or explanation. She had deserved at least that much. "But I would never have been happy with her. And I don't want Anna to mistake what she perceives to be love, for whatever emotions I had felt that caused me to take such drastic measures." Love was an easy word to throw around without knowing its true meaning . . . until you found that person that you truly loved.

If there was one thing Arthur was utterly embarrassed by . . . it was how many women he had nearly married, or professed his love for, or even humiliated: Sophia, Vivian, Elena, Mithian . . . and Guinevère. Though never did his mind dwell on why they had not married the first time he proposed. It was well in their past, never to be remembered or acknowledged. Right now, they were talking of Sophia, and he knew he had brought up the subject to prove a point about how 'young love' could not be serious, yet it could create serious consequences. "I did," he admitted, ashamed of what he had done. His father had threatened to execute Sophia and her father if he did not back down . . . and for whatever reason, Arthur thought it would be wise to run off with her and marry.
As if that would not have serious repercussions. "Do you recall Lady Sophia?" He asked, wondering if she remembered her for it was many, many years ago. "When my father denied me permission to marry her, we decided to elope. I had been foolish and impulsive and I didn't know why I acted so recklessly. I knew it was not true love, yet it felt like love. And had I gone through with it, I would have spent the rest of my life in regret." Impulsive was the key word in this . . . and he would have to make sure Merrick didn't get any ideas to elope with Anna.

Arthur had to admit that he felt disappointed when his time with Thomas came to an end. He truly wished he could just spend the day with his family, but in order to be there tomorrow for Amaren's birthday, he needed to get as much done today as he could. He told Thomas how well he was doing, and how he had no doubts that he would be the greatest knight that this world had ever seen. Taking him back to Guinevère's chambers, he went to continue with his duties for the day. He had a meeting in a couple of hours, but had to meet to go over the details of the war thus far. He sat with a few of the men for some time, and when that meeting was over, planned to return to his chambers, get changed and them meet with the council. However, inside of going to his own chambers, he found himself going to Elena's . . . not even having realized it until he was standing in the room.
Her, empty room. She had taken most of her things with her when she had returned home, but some of her things still remained. He closed the door behind him and moved to her bed, sitting at the edge of it. So many memories filled this room. It was where they had been intimate, where she had been so ill, where both their children had died . . . he missed her. A part of him would forever mourn for her. He loved her; not in the way he loved Guinevère, but in the way that she had become his good friend over the years of the marriage. The good memories with her had been wonderful . . . and yet the last conversation they had was one where she was hurt and humiliated. He knew that he was the reason their marriage was destroyed, as he was the reason she was dead. He put his head in his hands, propping his elbows on his knees as he just closed his eyes and let the tears fill his eyes for what he had done to her.
He had broken her emotionally, and he was the cause of her death. Everyone who died from this war, was blood on his hands. The guilt would never leave his heart or soul; he would just have to learn to live with it. And he knew, that he could not speak to Guinevère about this . . . because she felt guilty as well. When she should not. Yet it just made him feel worse for how he had hurt both woman. Two incredible women . . . ones he had been and was completely unworthy of. He wasn't sure how long he had sat here, just thinking of her, and all he had done to her. It was a knock at the door that broke him from this moment, looking up and making sure his eyes were not too red. A servant had come to inform him that the council was waiting. Arthur had not even realized the time and that he was late for his meeting, so with one final glance around her room, he composed him and went to the meeting where he spent the next few hours.
After that, he had to get Amaren's gift, but not only that . . . he wanted to get something for Thomas too. He knew any gifts for Guinevère would just risk exposing them, but he planned to make everything up to her when the time came that they could marry. Before he knew it, it was night time and Arthur returned to his chambers, as Merlin assisted him in removing his chainmail and Arthur changed into something more comfortable. He told Merlin that if anyone was looking for him, to come and get him from Guinevère's quarters. Merlin seemed not to question anything for he knew about them . . . and seemed very willing to help them find time together. With that plan set in place, Arthur went to Guinevère's quarters, eager to see her and the children, even if Thomas and Amaren were both sleeping.

Arthur should have known that his hypocrisy was going to be used against him. It was true that he had fallen in love with Guinevère at an age only a few years older than Anna, but he also knew that it had not been the first time he had believed to be in love . . . it was the only time he had really been in love. But his mind had not forgotten about past women, or one in particular. Her next words however, put these thoughts on hold as Guinevère revealed that they had been meeting for a while. "What do you mean they have been meeting in private?" He asked, with displeased surprise. Merrick had been meeting with his daughter in secret? Chaperoned. But still! Merrick had been meeting with Anna. Arthur was going to beat that boy senseless! He had let him off the hook far too easily and planned to make his warning more apparent the next time he saw him. If he so much as lay a finger on his Anna . . . there would be a great deal that he would need to answer for.
"I want Anna to be happy," he said, which was part of why he was not agreeing to this. "But she has her whole life ahead of her." Words that almost made him cringe for he knew his father had once said the same to him. Though ironically, in that particular case . . . his father had been completely right. "When I was only a couple of years older than Anna, I had thought I was in love." He had never told her the details of this, for it had not been important. He had not been close to Guinevère at the time and nearly running away with Sophia was not something Arthur was proud of. "I nearly eloped with her. Had Merlin not come to stop me, I would have destroyed my future." His future with her. His future as a father. His future as a king. "I do not want her to make any rushed decision and regret it." What if she discovered not to love Merrick, but that it had just been infatuation and lust? He would not take the risk on his daughter being unhappy, for he wanted nothing -- and no one -- but the best for her.

He smiled when she said she would be there, knowing that seeing her would be a great comfort to him . . . great encouragement. This was one of the many reasons that he loved her. Because he knew no one who was as supportive as Guinevère. Even disapproving of his decision to join, she would still be there to watch, supporting him. He would need to think of a way to make it up to her. Somehow. "That sounds perfect," he told her when she said she would get extra help. When it came to the people, Guinevère would always be able to relate to them and thus able to help them in ways him and others could not. For she would know exactly what they needed, and how to approach them. It was part of why Camelot was so strong, because no other queen or king in all this world held such strengths that the Queen of Camelot did. Nor did any other people love their queen as much as Camelotians did theirs.
Amaren. When the topic was brought to one of their sons, Arthur had not entirely forgotten how excited the young boy would be. She was right though; he could not watch the entire thing for it was too early for him to be exposed to such violence. Arthur may have had a different childhood, but he wanted Amaren to enjoy his and be a child for as long as he could. For soon, the pressures of being heir would fall heavily on him and he knew that that was something Guinevère and Arthur were trying to ease and protect from him as long as possible. "When the order of the matches are organized, it will be easier to determine which ones he can watch and which ones he cannot." For right now, it was too soon to tell. "I think it would be safe for him to see fights only when knights face each other." For even if a knight faced a darker foe, and while they may be honorable, their opponent may not share that same sense of honor and who's to say that the knight would win.

She seemed surprised to hear that he had rejected the proposal and was slightly confused by that. It wasn't as if he had done anything out of the ordinary. Anna had another potential suitor, he dismissed any thoughts of it ever happening . . . and that was it. It was nothing new, yet Guinevère seemed genuinely surprised by it. Her next actions further proved that and further confused him. She turned him and was trying to usher him toward the door, but he stopped moving. Yes? YES?! She wanted him to say Yes?! Why on earth would he ever say yes?! Merrick was a good man, yes. Just as all her other suitors were. But that didn't mean they were good enough to have the right and privilege to call themselves Anna's husband. Surely, Guinevère was joking. He turned around to look at her when she said that Anna loves him. She . . . what? No. That couldn't be true! And the absurdity of it was enough to make Arthur laugh out at the notion.
"Anna is too young. It is nothing but infatuation." Surely. Besides, when would she have been able to 'fall in love with him'. That took time. For Arthur, it had taken days of him living with Guinevère to develop feelings for her . . . and then seeing her every day it had only grown from there. But it wasn't as if Anna ran away for three days to stay with Merrick. Arthur surely would have known about that . . . and run Merrick through because of it. He also completely ignored the fact that while she was young, she was near the age Arthur and Guinevère had been when they fell in love. But he didn't care of it was contradicting of his own experience falling in love. She was his precious baby girl. "Humor me Guinevère, and tell me why I should say yes to him?" Clearly, Arthur wasn't taking this seriously at all. He didn't believe she loved him, even if he thought that Merrick may love her.

He smiled with a bit of amusement when she tried to encourage the tease, though knew he mind was not yet fully at rest . . . and her next words confirmed that. "I do not do this to cause you worry and unrest," he told her, wanting her to know that he wasn't trying to worry her. That he wasn't doing this for any other reason apart from necessity. He had a wife and children; a family and more of a reason than ever to live. For it was no longer just for the kingdom, but for his family. "Although I think I would be worried if I was not permitted to use my sword," he said jokingly, trying to find that balance between having the serious part of this conversation, and the lighter one meant to ease her troubled mind.
"And as I said, if you prefer to stay with the children, I would completely understand." Because . . . this competition could turn bloody indeed. While he could never kill an opponent -- unless it was strictly self defense and they had ill intentions toward him -- he knew that others were not as merciful. This was not a competition with just knights and honorable men. Some were men from the darkest corners of the earth. But of course saying all this would not help her right now. And it wasn't something that everyone didn't already know. "We will have to get quarters ready, for visiting royals and nobles who wish to either participate or watch the tournament," he said, trying to give them both something else to focus on.

The moment she said his name, he knew what was coming. She did not approve of his decision to enter the competition, not that he had ever thought he shouldn't. She spoke words that he knew were true, of this being an opportune time for Morgana or even Odin to strike. For the city would be bustling with activity and crowded with people . . . and anyone was welcomed. Regardless of how dark and shady they appeared to be. He knew it was in Guinevère's nature to worry, as any wife and husband did for each other . . . and it was also in her nature to remain rational and explain things from a logical perspective. He would forever respect that, even if in this particular instance he was not inclined to change his mind. He gave a soft smile, hoping to reassure her worried mind. "I would tell you that you needn't worry, but I know that such words would be trivial to say," he told her teasingly. "I can not let the fear of Morgana and Odin striking, control every aspect of our lives." For if he did, then he would never let Guinevère and the children outside the castle walls.
It was different to take safety precautions-- such as extra security and making sure the queen and their children were guarded at all times. And another to live in a totally sheltered world. "This is not something I can exempt myself from," he continued to explain to her, wanting her to know that he wasn't doing this for foolish pride or reckless arrogance. "As a king, I must participate." As his father had in the years before. Arthur had not been able to prove himself to the people last time and this time . . . he wanted to show them. Of course he could not say that he would be the undefeated champion -- he was even past that arrogant predetermined claim -- but he was confident. "Besides, I will have Excalibur with me," he said on a lighter note, as she was well aware of his never diminishing fascination with his sword that was pulled from the stone all those years ago. "I think that gives me a fairly good chance to get fair in the competition," he said, again in the same joking tone -- though not completely without truth.

She asked what he did to Merrick and Arthur could easily give the answer 'nothing'. Because he hadn't threatened him, or given him a warning, or anything of the sort. He had just answered his question and completely rejected the proposal. "I didn't do anything to him," Arthur replied casually, not caring if the man was heartbroken after being denied his love. Arthur was not going to just accept anyone for Anna's husband. Guinevère went on to say that he liked Merrick and Arthur knew that was true, but it didn't matter in this regard.
"That doesn't mean I believe he should marry Anna." Because he wasn't good enough for her. Granted, he knew that his standards were so high, that it was practically impossible for anyone to be good enough for her. "I told him no, and we can leave it at that," he said, as if reassuring Guinevère that she would not have to look at Merrick as a potential husband for their daughter. Besides, it shouldn't be that surprising that he said no since he said no to basically everyone. So why should Merrick be any different?

She seemed rather fixated on his meeting with Merrick and Arthur wondered why that was. While she spoke of her day and then asked to ensure his was well, it was clear that her curiosity was rested on the rejected knight. When she asked directly what he wished to speak to him about, Arthur knew he couldn't evade the question. He would never lie to Guinevère, not even about smaller things like this that were of no consequence. He believed in total honesty and that was why they were able to have such a strong marriage . . . well, one of the many reasons. "He wished to speak to me about Anna," Arthur said, maintaining that same casualness. It seemed that more and more proposals were coming for her and each time he received one . . . he was disturbed the by the thought of marrying her off like that.
If it was a prince or king, then he couldn't bare the thought of sending her off to another kingdom. If it was a knight, then he would keep a watchful eye on him every time he was at court, as was his daughter. Or every time she was within sight of him. He knew he couldn't shelter her from the world, but he could damn well make sure that no one touched her. "He asked for her hand in marriage," Arthur continued, with the same nonchalant tone, as if the request was nothing new. "The issue was quickly resolved." Just as it always was: with a flat out no. It wasn't even a matter of consideration. The answer would forever be no, regardless of who asked.

"You mean the children, myself and my husband." He was all too aware of aware of where this conversation was going. And her next questions confirmed it. He knew his wife well enough to know that tone of disapproval in her voice. Not that it was something foreign to him . . . it was after all that tone of disapproval and brutal honestly that had drawn him to her in the first place. Ever since she first scolded him when he was staying with her in secret. He looked at her, trying to figure out the best way to phrase it . . . but decided on a simple answer, rather than try to talk his way out of it. "I am," he said, almost hesitantly only because he did not want to do something she seemed to be against. Which was why he continued with his next words.
"I must," he added. It was out of obligation rather than arrogant pride. He had matured from that, but he needed to do this as king to the people. Of course that wasn't to say that it wouldn't feel good to win the competition, he simply knew that his motives were more than just glory and pride. "If you would rather stay with the children for the duration of the tournament, I completely understand," he said, slightly changing the subject, but also not wanting her to feel that same obligation of watching. This tournament that entailed these matches were a bit more messy, violent and intense than most others. So he would understand entirely if she rather not witness it. Even though she had been present for the last one, that was different. They had four children now, and . . . well, everything was just different.

Arthur looked at her, concealing his confusion at the question. It wasn't that he didn't understand it but . . . he wondered how she knew about it. Not that he would keep it from her. But for that to be the first thing for her to ask him was, a bit odd. Had Merrick tried to go to Guinevère for her blessing? "It was fine," Arthur answered causally. "Nothing of grave importance." Because Merrick was not the first knight who had asked for Anna's hand in marriage. He saw the way some men looked at her, and all it took was for one glare or a few words -- or some extra time spent on the training field sparring with them -- for them to get the hint: that she was and would forever be unavailable.
"How has your day been thus far?" He asked, not wanting the subject to linger on something that wasn't greatly important. He would of course tell her what Merrick had to say if she truly wanted to know -- for he never kept anything from his wife. But for now, there was no need to dwell on the subject. Because no good would ever come from it. Hopefully Merrick understood that, but if he didn't . . . then Arthur could be very convincing indeed.

Arthur was glad that the topic of security was immediately brought up. Though it was no surprise that they were of the same mind and had the same priorities. It was why their rule was so strong together, because they mostly agreed on decisions that would affect the kingdom. |"Both," he answered, not wanting to take any risks. "I will be making sure that you and the children are securely protected, as well as hiring more guards for the time being." There was no such thing as too much protection. He had seen what the city was like the last time: filled with men of all types . . . including less than honorable behavior. He wanted to be sure that despite the sudden crowd that would fill the city, that it would remain safe from their enemies.
Last time, the tournament had seemed to go well without any assassins or magic users, or anything of the sort. Hopefully this time would be the same. The last competition, Arthur's greatest fear had been harming his father. He recalled Morgana's words about how he should not throw the fight and he almost shivered at the thought, now knowing her motives for saying that: for she wished for Uther's humiliation, or for them to turn on each other. Arthur didn't regret his decision in letting his father win, nor would he ever. He only regretted actually considering Morgana's words, even if in the end, he did not heed them.

The more Merrick spoke, the more Arthur just stared at him. Arthur knew the answer the second Merrick had made the request. No. A flat out simple non-debatable answer of no. Did Merrick even know what love was? Despite Arthur's contradicting thoughts of how just moments ago he could tell Merrick was in love and reminded him of his younger self . . . well, Arthur didn't care about hypocrisy. He was not going to risk it on his only daughter. He wasn't sure how long he was just staring at Merrick. Could have been moments, could have been hours. What he did know was that he was to meet his wife soon for lunch, and that this meeting was over. He slowly rose to his feet, keeping his eyes locked on the knight. He would forever keep a watchful eye on him from now on. To see if he was looking too longingly at his daughter. Arthur knew what it was like to have a forbidden love, to not be able to with that person . . . and thus, he knew exactly what signs to look for from Merrick.
"No." His tone was blunt, stubborn, leaving no room for protest. A simple no would suffice and Arthur was not going to reconsider or revisit this conversation. That was all there was to say. No. And to further show that this subject was not up for debate, Arthur walked toward the door and exited the room. Merrick had fallen under Arthur's watch, and he would indeed make sure that he did not get too close to Anna. At the same time, this was just a causal rejection of not the first proposal for her, and what he knew would not be the last. So there was no need to make a huge deal about it. He would just silently watch the knight like a hawk. So with that certainty in mind, he walked toward his and Guinevère's chambers for their lunch. And when he got there, already saw her waiting. Seeing her almost instantly calmed his emotions and any sternness was fully gone. He smiled at her and walked toward her, casually kissing her cheek. "Guinevère," he greeted, needing this lunch more than ever to dismiss all thoughts of everything that Merrick had said to him.

Once Arthur was seated and they were both settled, she inquired to the purpose of him having sought her out at this time. Not that he ever needed a valid reason to seek out his wife apart from the reason that he just wanted to see her. But this was something that they keep busy with in the weeks to come for the preparations and such. "I had a short meeting with the council," he began to explain, not wanting her to feel that it was something of extreme importance for otherwise, he would have most certainly included her. She was often, if not always, present during council meetings, but this one had been unplanned short, and quick.
"The date for the tournament that takes place every ten years has been set." The tournament that was tradition in Camelot and it was one tradition that he planned on keeping. "We thought that two months from tomorrow would be a good time to hold the tournament," he went on to say, giving details of the timing before he knew they would have to discuss security and keeping their children safe and guarded. He didn't want them watching the violence of this particular tournament for there were no rules, and no regulations or limitations. It was completely open to those who wished to join, and the only thing that was not permitted, was magic.

Arthur had to admit that he was a bit relieved when Merrick removed himself from his position, and then he went on to assure him that it was a woman he was in love with. Arthur remained silent, for Merrick seemed to finally ease his nerves enough to speak. He did indeed sound like a fool in love. How did Arthur know this? Because he had once been exactly like Merrick. When he'd first fallen in love with Guinevère, he'd been a fumbling fool; constantly frazzled in her presence, unable to think clearly, always at a loss of words . . . while he'd managed to move past this a little, she still managed to make him feel frazzled at times. It was the way it tended to be, when a man was so in love. So in that way, Merrick reminded Arthur of himself, when he was younger . . . and so strongly in love. It was also how Arthur could tell that the knight was sincere. Merrick was an honorable man and Arthur didn't doubt that whomever this woman was, would be loved and cared for.
Arthur also wanted to assure him that rank would not matter, for it had not stood in his way when marrying Guinevère. And if she was unwilling to look past that . . . then perhaps she was not worthy of his love. He sounded so genuine in his feelings for her, and Arthur found himself extremely curious to know who the woman was. What noble in court would Merrick feel the need to ask Arthur about? But the king remained respectfully quiet, letting Amaren explaining. Beautiful, smart and witty did not exactly narrow it down. Was it Rosa's daughter? Or someone else that he didn't -- . . . . . . . That was when Arthur froze. The first words of him wanting to ask the father . . . and then the confirming words of him wanting to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. Anna. His Anna. His little princess. While Merrick was not the first to ask such a thing, it had slightly caught Arthur off guard.
Every thought that Arthur had about how Merrick would make a good husband, suddenly fled from his mind. While he knew he would . . . he would not be Anna's husband. For as good a man as Merrick was, no one would ever be good enough for his Anna. And that was why he had repeatedly rejected any proposals that came from Prince's, or King's and Queen's for their sons. Or any knights or other nobles that wished for her hand. It would never be easily gained -- if it was ever gained. For Anna would forever be his baby girl. And Merrick would not marry her. That was all there was to it. So Arthur's expression transformed from what it was, to a more stern and hardened expression. Stone cold in fact, as he just stared at Merrick. For this was not a request he took lightly, nor one he would grant permission for.

With these kisses between their conversation . . . Arthur was really wishing they both had more time to spare to be together. But he also loved how involved Guinevère was in the governing of the kingdom. He had once said that he didn't want an idle queen who floated around the castle agreeing with his every word . . . and Guinevère was far from such a woman. She had proven to be a strong queen and ruler, and the people loved her for it -- as he knew they would. "Then I am grateful for that hour," he told her, kissing her once more before regrettably lowering his arms from around her. "I will have some lunch sent up, and then I do have something to discuss with you," he said, keeping his voice clear from any teasing flirtation or suggestiveness.
With the tournament, he knew that the primary concern was the safety of her and the children, and he wanted her to be reassured that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure they were as protected as possible. Especially with him not there but rather, taking part in the tournament. So with that, he hurried to the hall and stopped a servant walking by, asking them to tell the kitchens to send up lunch as soon as they could. Once the order was made, Arthur returned to the small table they had been standing at and pulled out the chair for her, waiting for her to be seated before he did the same.
