He hadn’t meant to confuse Brynn with his words but he found they would probably work to his advantage. He shouldn’t enjoy toying with his friend so much, but she was easily wound up, and her reaction was always encouraging so he often loved to be the cause of it. Gwaine did live up to his name of mischief maker most of the time, well no one really called him that, though no one in Camelot certainly would disagree he deserved the name and should wear it with pride. He broke off his link with Brynn and stopped dead in the middle of the street. It was nearing dusk anyway so he wasn’t in anyone’s way, in fact they were practically alone in the street. He feigned annoyance, folding his arms at his young friend, “I had expected better, how could you not have a list of ladies to call upon to attend my needs at such an event.” He walked up, holding up his hand to silence her, “And you call yourself my friend Brynn.” He continued to walk a short way, before his laugh’s took over his lips and he turned back to his friend in a mere fit of hysterics. He held his hands up in innocence towards Brynn, hoping that would work, “I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.” He grinned at her, now she couldn’t be annoyed at him, no woman could be annoyed with him after he’d grinned at them, “I did just mean female friends of course, as many as you have please.” He winked at Brynn, then in that moment realising that he was incredibly shallow. Hmm. He quickly decided he didn’t care and continued on his way, going back to his friend and taking her arm once more to lead her onwards.
The thought of his own mini army amused Gwaine no end. Maybe he could include his friend Griff’s children when his wife gave birth as well. Though he’d have to convince the man quite a lot to let him train his son, if he had a son, to sword fight. Then again, from what Griff told him it wouldn’t be him who he would be convincing but his wife. Gwaine was sure he could get round her, Gwaine could get round everyone. “My own army would be interesting.” He admitted with a soft grin but pulled a face at the thought of her geese. He wasn’t fond of those geese, and he didn’t think they were fond of him. They had a way of looking at him which made him think they knew he was only looking at them wondering how the cook would prepare them for his dinner. “There is only one place those geese would have in my army.” On the soldiers dinner plates Gwaine thought rather pessimistically, though he didn’t voice this to Brynn.
Well, at least Brynn got on alright with Alex’s mother, that was a start wasn’t it? He grinned down at his friend, happy that everything seemed quite fine and stable for her now. The talk of kitchen maids did distract him somewhat, and his face lit up, “If you know of any women in need of a shoulder to cry on send them my way, my door is always open to a fair maiden.” Where they would leave his room still a fair maiden was another thing, and not for Brynn’s ears.

Gwaine had no idea why Griff was asking him anything about children. He wasn’t that fond of children if he was being honest. He taught swordplay to Brynn’s younger brother and his friends, but that was about it. Even that was only children in small doses, and Gyrth was a boy, not a baby so Gwaine had no experience to offer his friend. How hard could it be to look after a baby? Gwaine couldn’t understand why Griff was so nervous, babies didn’t do much, so surely they wouldn’t require that much attention. Gwaine shrugged at Griff’s words and ran both hands through his hair. In fairness he knew he wasn’t being incredibly helpful, but that didn’t change his feelings about the matter. He was going to be stuck outside a room with a screaming woman who was giving birth with a man who looked like he was going to be sick with worry. Gwaine decided he didn’t want children, not if it did this to a perfectly reasonable man. “Well what else would you have me say?” Gwaine asked him with a raised eye brow, “I’ll give you better advice when your son can wield a sword and shoot a bow, you do want a son right?” He asked quickly, as he didn’t want to offend his friend if he did want a daughter rather than a son, but he couldn’t imagine why he would to be honest.
He just looked on at Griff as the man sat down, smacking his head in the process. Gwaine winced slightly as he watched the man and he pressed his lips together, not sure what to say to his friend. However unready Griff felt about being a father he was going to have to learn incredibly quickly. The woman, (Caitrin was it?) was already screaming, or groaning or whatever, and it was incredibly off-putting. Gwaine bit his lip nervously and looked across at Griff, “Well it’s not like you have to do it on your own.” He reasoned, it wasn’t like Griff would have to do everything for his child was it? Surely the mother would have to do most of the work, she’d have to feed them. Gwaine scrunched up his face, he didn’t really want to think of women’s things right now. “Have you told your wife any of this?” Meaning his worries about becoming a parent, because it would make sense to talk to the mother of course. Maybe she felt the same?
Well it seemed at least Gwaine had managed to say one useful thing. He chuckled at his friends words, wondering what a mini Griff would be like. That would be something to behold of course, and he just nodded enthusiastically at his friend. “Would you call him Griff?” Gwaine asked curiously, he knew some fathers did name sons after themselves, but he wondered if Griff had even thought of names and suchlike yet. After all, he was probably too busy panicking about everything else which could go wrong wasn’t he? “I don’t know why you’re worrying, you’ll make a better parent than I ever would.” He smirked in jest and chuckled, he needed an ale. Hmm. He always needed an ale, but he couldn’t leave which was incredibly irritating, something told Gwaine this was going to be an incredibly long and sober night. “So you should be excited, about you, your wife and mini Griff.”

As much as Gwaine wanted a challenge, and he did relish in a good challenge, he wanted there to at least be an end in sight. Perhaps the fact Isabel was still talking to him, and hadn’t called the guards or whoever she had at her disposal at him was probably showing he wasn’t annoying her as much as she said he was. She told him that she wanted him to leave her alone, however she hadn’t run off, or got someone to drag him away. She couldn’t hold out against his charms for long, hardly any women were capable of evading his charms for longer than a few retorts. Isabel would prove no different, or at least he hoped not. She had a natural beauty about her, which was only ruined by the fact she was currently scowling at him. He would have to change that, and quickly because it didn’t suit her at all. He wondered if she just scowled at everyone, really that was no way for a woman to live out her life. Weren’t women supposed to be elegant and beautiful? Then again, most of the women he had met recently seemed to have a venom tongue, or were intent of going out against the crowd and refused to fall for his charms. It must be something in the air at the moment.
Leaving her alone would hardly be fun, so Gwaine continued to grin on at her and shook his head. “What would be the fun in me leaving?” He asked her gently, continuing to stand in her way. She hadn’t left just yet, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to leave anytime soon. Gwaine ran his hand through his hair and shrugged at her, “I could join you on your walk my Lady, you look like you need some company after all.” Company that could stop her scowling so much, because it didn’t become her and it confused him slightly. How could she still be holding out against him?
Well, as long as he knew she was usually impatient, and it wasn’t just because of him, that was all fine then wasn’t it. She should learn patience though, because it was an unattractive trait at best. Of course Gwaine wasn’t that bothered about the formalities and suchlike, but she was just confirming his own views on the nobility, they were only interested in their own assets. “Patience is a virtue.” He chirped with a quick wink, surely Isabel, as a Lady, should know that already. He was quite impressed that he got her to smile, of course she couldn’t resist his charms, “You know you look beautiful when you smile.” He charmed gently, “Perhaps you could grace me with another?”

Gwaine was rather looking forwards to these five things that Robyn had to offer him. After all it would be cruel of her to deny him this information after she had suggested such things. She couldn’t leave him hanging, well she could, but he was interested now, and that was possibly quite dangerous. After all, he was now just more interested in hearing what she had to say, because he could build on whatever she could come up with. Taking a sip of his ale, Gwaine looked over Robyn, it would be quite disappointing if she was leading him a merry dance, mainly because he had hope for this woman. Many women could talk, oh God they could talk, but not many had the talent of turning those words into much. “There is no one more handsome, of that I am sure.” Gwaine’s arrogance was only matched by his ego, and he smirked at Robyn. Gwaine was incredibly confident, and that wasn’t a bad thing, well most of the time. Alone in a room? Well well, he certainly hadn’t thought Robyn the innocent and he certainly didn’t now. She didn’t have to spell it out for him, though he rather wanted it to. Hearing words of seduction from women had a certain charm about it. “I’m sure I can think of something.” He was probably more experienced than Robyn in such matters anyway, perhaps Robyn thought she had one up on him with being so blunt, but her bluntness did not fluster him or even have much of an effect bar interest. She could be as blunt as she wanted, it didn’t mean she was actually prepared to do anything, that still remained to be seen.
Hmm. Her tags for him were quite romantic and girlish words. A bad boy waiting to be reformed? Gwaine had never thought of himself as either, he never showed himself as much because he never let himself get that attached to anyone. He wasn’t sure what he was anymore to be honest. He was just Gwaine, and that wasn’t incredibly helpful to describe himself. He looked on at Robyn and smirked somewhat, “What do you think I am?” He asked, resting his head on one of his hands with a soft grin. It was easier to shift the question on rather than answer her directly, after all he wasn’t sure what he was, but maybe Robyn could come to some conclusion for him.
She had a point, irritably, but it had provoked a reaction and that was the point really wasn’t it? Gwaine noticed she hadn’t shifted her hand just yet, and he looked down at the hand before looking back at Robyn’s face, that was what he was supposed to be focussing on after all. “Well I took my hand from your chin, your hand remains firmly on mine.” It was a good point, it proved which one of them was more hooked than the other. He rested his cheek in his other palm, “Is there something about my hand which you find desirable?” He winked at her, pressing his lips into a simple grin.

Gwaine had half expected Iwan to not catch up with him, so he would have to slow down to stop looking as childish as he was acting. Gwaine couldn’t remember acting in such a silly manner for quite a while, but Iwan was inspiring that side of him. He didn’t want to be completely serious for the whole journey, he had enough of being serious when he was in Camelot. His life before being a knight had hardly ever been spent being serious about much. He had to be serious at times of course because he had to look after himself, no one else was going to after all. But it had always been a carefree life, it didn’t matter what time he got up at or what he ate or whatever but now he had to act seriously and turn up for his duties on time and whatever else being a knight brought along with it.
Well, Gwaine should have guessed that Iwan would ruin his fun as quickly as he could. He should have kept on guessing or doing something as equally as irritating in Iwan’s opinion. A plan did make sense though seeing as they were nearing their destination. So Iwan was right in that respect, hmm, that was irritating. Thinking on it, gathering information before they went charging in would probably be a good idea. There was a village that the beast was apparently terrorising, so that would be the best idea. He should probably check if Iwan was going to faint if he said something reasonable for once. It was probably going to be the first time since they had started out this morning that Gwaine was going to put forwards a half decent idea. Miracles did happen after all. “We should question the villagers, see if anyone knows anything.” He shrugged, he could probably find some young women to question, Iwan could question the men, he wouldn’t know how to get the best out of the women anyway...
To be honest, Gwaine couldn’t think of any women that he knew who would bend over backwards for Iwan. However, that didn’t mean that there wasn’t a woman who would find him attractive, but if he was going to be so bloody pessimistic then he wasn’t going to get anywhere. Gwaine couldn’t help thinking that if Iwan just simply had a night with a woman it would probably lighten him up completely. “That’s hardly the attitude to have.” Gwaine pointed out, “Your hardly trying, do you not want a woman to find you attractive?” He pulled a face at his companion, “I’m sure I could arrange something for you if you wanted?” He winked at Iwan, he had no doubt of course he could figure something out for the man, there was hope for lost causes.

Well it could be incredibly fun for Gwaine, but not for Elyan if the man started going up and charming random women, of course he wouldn’t have a chance at being as good as Gwaine. Anyway, he wouldn’t have any luck with women as long as Gwaine was in the room, of that he was sure. No offence to his friend, but women knew what they wanted and if he was in the room then who was he to stop them getting what they wanted? Gwaine sighed softly and looked over his friend, there was possibly no helping him really. “You’re going to be the most eligible bachelor in Camelot, you have to start somewhere.” He pointed out reasonably with a look on his face which almost pitied Elyan. He chuckled and clapped his friend on the back, stepping towards the heat of the tavern.
He wouldn’t need luck to beat Elyan in tavern games, of that Gwaine was sure. He grinned at his friend, it was pitiful that Elyan thought that he had a chance in beating him in anything. Perhaps they were better off at sparring in the training field, but this was just one more way in which Gwaine could prove his readiness and diligence. He was sure Elyan would soon be eating his words, Gwaine had his ways and he would certainly be proving a point before the night was out. “Well I’m sure we could settle any disputes we have tomorrow on the field that aren’t sorted tonight.” He winked at his fellow brother, his words full of jest. Elyan and he were matched on the field, and well he knew it.
Betting without money was like dinking without ale to Gwaine. It made no sense utterly to him to bet without any money. That was a pastime for boys, not men, and Gwaine just let out a small ‘heh’ sound, “You are joking right?” He asked Elyan and let out a wide smile, “What’s the point in betting when there’s nothing to bet with?” He was probably getting a little too much into this but he didn’t care. He’d never betted without having a just cause too, plus he wasn’t planning on robbing Elyan blind so that didn’t matter. He pulled Elyan towards a table where men were already playing at cards; his ale in his hands, “Deal out two more hands my man.” He said rather confidently, clapping the man on the back. “Ready to put your money where your mouth is?”

Gwaine considered Brynn’s sweetheart, and she grinned to himself. He couldn’t ever imagine being so excited about being in love, or perhaps he wasn’t doing himself justice in that respect. He’d never been in love so he couldn’t judge. Though he never wanted to have that glassy eyed look Brynn had right now. He hoped that he would at least keep his rational head on his shoulders if he did fall in love. If was the word of the moment of course, he might never fall in love, and he would have to spend the rest of his life on his own lurching from one woman to the next. He didn’t mind that so much. However, he would perhaps have to consider literally sweeping women off their feet as it seemed to be working for Brynn’s sweetheart. “Well, you will have to invite me to the wedding of course, and invite as many lady friends as you can, I do get bored easily.” He winked at Brynn and continued upon his way with a wide grin on his face.
Gwaine didn’t mind instructing another boy along with Gyrth on some little tricks with a sword. It would probably be the best idea because it meant that Gwaine would get a bit of a break. After all, he taught Gyrth some lunges and parry’s but it would be easier if the children could practice with each other rather than with him as they were of a similar size and strength. With the swords that they were using they wouldn’t do anymore than cause a few bruises so there was nothing to worry about. “Well they can practice with each other, and I’ll make sure that they don’t fall out, I can be quite persuasive when it comes to children.” That was half a lie, but Brynn only had to believe him for the time being. He would probably enjoy having another little life to teach anyway, Gwaine quite enjoyed the attention the young boys gave him, he felt like some sort of idol, which was strange. He always thought the nobility, or higher classes were hated by the lower classes but he was looked up to.
He made a small ‘heh’ noise at Brynn’s comments. Gwaine never stayed around long enough to bother that much with the mothers. The fathers were usually the problem because they were more violent and could run quicker. He supposed if he stuck around long enough he would probably be more bothered about the mothers. “Not speaking from experience here are we?” He wondered if his friend had left the wrong impression on the woman who would one day be her mother in law, though he highly doubted it. He couldn’t imagine Brynn not getting on with anyone.

Gwaine couldn’t really see the problem in Elyan humiliating himself for his friend’s amusement. Elyan probably wouldn’t agree, but seeing him trying to charm women in the tavern would probably be the best source of amusement, for Gwaine at least. Gwaine chuckled to himself, sure his friend completely disagreed with him, he had no reason to find amusement in his own downfalls after all. Gwaine had the pleasure of being an incredibly charming man, and women appreciated that completely. Elyan had so much to learn, Gwaine probably wouldn’t even know where to start really. He chuckled as Elyan voiced concern over his friends scheming, “Me, scheming? Never.” He winked at his friend, his tone was of a mock hurt and annoyance. Elyan had ever reason to be worried about his friend’s exploits and Gwaine knew that. “Anyway, it could be fun. You’ll never know until you’ve tried.” He pointed out rather reasonably.
Of course Gwaine was going to rise to the challenge, he was incredibly competitive with most aspects of life, if not all oft hem. So of course Gwaine would be taking Elyan up on this little wager of his. Gambling wasn’t something which he was proud of taking part in all the time, but it was fun, and if it passed the time in a tavern then what was the harm in it? “I daresay I cannot refuse you, Sir Elyan.” He winked, enjoying the jest between him and his friend for a few moments. This could be quite interesting, perhaps if Elyan had a good time gambling then he would eventually be persuaded to charm some women on the side. They had the whole night ahead of them, anything could happen.
Gwaine was quite taken aback by Elyan’s tone about the women. Taking a swig of his ale, giving himself a few moments to enjoy the sweet nectar before continuing, “Well, I could always arrange something if you’re that disappointed.” He pointed out with a wink. He wasn’t quite sure what he could muster yet, but he could defiantly think of something if he had to. Gambling, right, they would need to find someone who had cards then, “Are you up for a game of cards then Elyan? Unless you would prefer to charm women instead.”

Gwaine just decided to watch Griff for a few moments as he finished off eating his bread. Honestly all the trouble he had gone to in order to get this fresh bread, and Griff was completely unappreciative. Well, more for Gwaine anyway. Hmm, this was probably going to be a long night, Gwaine would have suggested going getting an ale if he thought it would be any help at all. Well what else could Gwaine suggest to calm the man down? At least the woman wasn’t screaming yet, Gwaine wasn’t an expert on childbirth or things like that at all but he knew it was supposed to be painful and well not all that pleasant to listen to. Then again, watching Griff wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences either.
As Griff stood up, Gwaine was still watching him. He was quite insulted that Griff thought he wasn’t helping. He’d only offered him bread, what on earth was the problem with that? It wasn’t his fault that Griff had got his wife pregnant was it? Gwaine hadn’t had a hand in that at all. All Gwaine had try to do was make sure he didn’t go hungry, but apparently that was completely the wrong thing to do. Finishing off the bread, Gwaine wiped his hands on his tunic, but didn’t stand up just yet. Eventually Griff sat down again, and Gwaine was trying his hardest not to smile or grin at the man’s reaction to his wife’s condition. Gwaine would have hours of listening to Griff going on like this; well wasn’t this going to be fun?
Gwaine was quite confused by what Griff said, but he was concerned at the same time. Well that was a first. Surely Griff had had enough time to come to terms with the fact he was going to be a father? He must have noticed after all; a pregnant belly was hard to cover up after all. He ran his hand through his hair, how would Gwaine know what to do with a baby? He’d never had to bother with things like that before. “Well, erm, you look after them and-“ He held his hands out in front of him, trying to mimic a woman he’d seen holding a child, “You just stop them crying I suppose.” He put his hands down and looked across at Griff, “How would I know what to do with a baby?” But Griff was of course going to have to learn very quickly as the baby would be here before the morning, he bit his lip and looked down as he ran his hand through his hair again, “I suppose you just love them and all that other stuff.” Gwaine wasn’t really the sentimental type at all, and he wasn’t about to start now, “Look you’re going to be a father whether you feel ready or not.” His words weren’t harsh, they were more sympathetic than anything, he didn’t want to panic Griff but his words were true, “Aren’t you, I don’t know, excited?”

Gwaine was rather confident in his abilities to turn Elyan into the smoothest person in the tavern. Well, he would always be less smooth and wise with the women than Gwaine was, but he was only human after all so it was to be expected. “Why are you worried?” He asked, rather amused at his friend’s response. Women weren’t something to be feared, they were supposed to be held, loved and charmed of course. They were certainly more than a temptation, but they weren’t something to worry that much over. Gwaine couldn’t ever remember getting worried or that bothered about a woman. If they didn’t want him then he just moved onto the next offer. It was the way he worked, however crude it sounded. If Arthur did marry Gwen then Elyan would have to get used to the female attention, but of course if he didn’t want it then Gwaine would be there to console the women, like a good friend should. Well, that didn’t exactly work in Elyan’s favour, but still. It sort of worked. Gwaine had lost his train of thought somewhat, thinking about all the eligible young noblewomen at court that would be in need of a comforting arm.
Well at least Elyan was more enthusiastic about gambling. They could have a fun night in the tavern without lurching after every woman that took their fancy. Well, Gwaine would be doing that, he wasn’t sure about Elyan. Anyway where were they? Oh right yes, gambling, “That sounds to me like a challenge…” He mused with an amused grin and looked over his friend, wondering if he was right in wondering about Elyan’s proposal. It would be quite fun to engage in tavern games with his friend, as he was pretty sure that Elyan wouldn’t beat him up if things didn’t go his way.
The tavern was as warm and welcoming as it always was. Gwaine breathed in slightly, taking in the atmosphere, this certainly was better than sitting alone in his room wondering which pretty maid would come and try to clean his room next. Sometimes time in the castle bored him stiffless, he wasn’t used to being so familiar with one place, he was still getting used to the feeling really. As Elyan went to find somewhere to sit, Gwaine grinned at the barmaid who was a pretty young blonde thing, but unfortunately she knew his tricks too well and demanded coin for the two drinks he was buying. “Hardly playing fair are we?” He asked her but she just rolled her eyes at him and gave him the drinks once she had her money. Gwaine made his way back over to Elyan and handed him his ale, “I think we’re better off gambling, I think I’ve already annoyed too many of the women in here anyway.”

Brynn was really too much fun to play about with sometimes. Gwaine never meant any harm in his words, and he certainly wouldn’t press anything on her if he really thought that it was distressing her, because he was her friend and he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable by any stretch of the imagination. However, he did just like teasing her from time to time. It was nice to see her smiling, as he thought that sometimes she took life a little too seriously. Perhaps it was a bit rich of Gwaine to say such things, as he didn’t take life seriously at all. He went through life usually doing things first, and thinking about them afterwards. His enjoyment always came first, and if sometimes he could pass these sentiments onto his friend then, well, where was the harm in that? As she pointed out that she was hard to get, Gwaine smirked at her. He was quickly seeing that she was hard to get, even when they hadn’t been friends, and he had been mercilessly flirting with her she had been hard to get. “Jesu, I need a little of whatever Alex has to crack you.” Gwaine chuckled to himself, and nudged Brynn’s side, knowing that the battle was lost. He was going out on a high note though. He knew his friend dearly loved her sweetheart, and that was nice he supposed. Gwaine didn’t really understand love, but as long as Brynn was happy then that was all that mattered.
Gwaine would be sure to think up some things he could teach Gyrth during their time together. He wouldn’t teach him anything too dangerous of course. He just wanted the lad to have something impressive to have to show off to his friends. “Does he have any friends that want to join in? Not too many mind, but only a few.” Gwaine didn’t mind extending his invitation if Gyrth had friends who he wanted to train alongside. It could be quite a feisty affair, but perhaps he could teach the lads there was more to being a knight than fighting, drinking and women. Well, maybe they didn’t care about the latter two just yet, but Gwaine had also had to learn there was much more to being a knight.
Groaning slightly, Gwaine ran a hand through his hair and pressed his eyes together. He could remember too many occasions when he had to run away from a maiden that he had been wooing because of her father. It was usually a tavern owner’s daughter that was the cause of his downfall. He’d been taken in by their charms too many times, and he’d often had to run in just his breeches away from the scene. He wasn’t getting beaten up for any women. “The fathers can be a problem, yes.” He agreed and laughed to himself. “The mothers are easy enough, they don’t threaten to beat you up.”

It brought a smug little grin to Gwaine’s lips to see that he’d managed to confuse Robyn a little with his words. He was well used to twisting a woman around his finger through his words. However, Robyn was so far proving to be quite different. It had taken a long time to even get her a little speechless. It was irritating in a way, but it made the conquest all the more interesting overall. Women who bent too easily to his words were incredibly boring. After all, why would he want someone who just said yes to him all the time, and didn’t provide him with any sort of challenge? He could find that with any woman in any kingdom. It was a fine thing to find indeed when a woman did bite back a little, and especially if the woman in question was obliging. He certainly hoped that this wasn’t just a short burst from Robyn and that she continued to be as intriguing as she was being now. He pressed his lips together and rested his head in his hands and looked on at her and cocked a grin, “You are playing against me, are you sure you will win?” He asked rather smugly and winked at her, he was only jesting of course, but he didn’t like to lose. In his own way Gwaine was incredibly competitive, and Robyn would quickly learn this. Now, she was being anything but subtle and it was a change of tact from her. Gwaine was usually the one to be quite blunt in situations like this but he was finding it quite easy to be subtle and almost poetic around her. Perhaps this was a sign that she was finally breaking underneath him, he certainly hoped so as it had taken him long enough to get to this point hadn’t it? “And what would these five suggestions be?” He smirked and took another swig of his ale, “I’m all ears.”
He wondered if he’d managed to catch her in his web of words yet. It was sometimes hard to figure it out with women. They were irritating creatures sometimes. You could tell if a man was smitten with a woman, because there were physical signs as well as the dribble which was usually hanging from the man’s mouth. Women however were different to figure out. They were incredibly good, in Gwaine’s experience, at hiding their emotions until they hit breaking point. Then all their emotions ran out at once. Of course that didn’t apply to all women, but Gwaine figured Robyn was one such woman, she was certainly proving herself to be such. “I never said I was nice.” He chuckled and took a swig of his ale, letting her know he was but jesting with her.
As her fingers played with his on the table he tried to repress grinning at her. Perhaps he had caught her after all. Gwaine was glad in a way, he had been sure he was losing his touch, and that simply wouldn’t do at all. It was a distressing situation at best to think that Gwaine might have lost his charm. “You forget Robyn, your hand is on mine, not the other way around.” He challenged, he wasn’t the one who was succumbing quickly to his emotions, but she was showing that she was.

Gwaine was point blank refusing to let Iwan ruin his mood. Sure, he had been a little late setting out on his mission, but they were easily making up for lost time. He couldn’t see what Iwan’s problem was, he didn’t particularly hate the man as such, there was just a personality clash of sorts. Perhaps if Iwan lightened up a little about life in general then he might learn to enjoy himself. Gwaine looked Iwan up and down, as if he was sizing him up, which in a sense he was. Now Gwaine couldn’t deny Iwan was good looking, and handsome, surely some woman would love him eventually. However, he doubted he could make women swoon as Gwaine could. Things like that took a certain talent, one Iwan probably didn’t possess. “I beg to differ.” Gwaine cocked a grin and continued on his walk, at a slightly faster pace. Perhaps when this thing, whatever it was, was defeated then Iwan’s mood would improve, though Gwaine doubted that.
If any ounce of Gwaine was being serious then he wouldn’t have suggested that two grown men should play I spy in the middle of a mission. He raised an eye brow at Iwan, wondering when the man was going to realise that he wasn’t being serious because that was just who he was. It wasn’t in Gwaine’s nature to take life seriously, because he’d never had to do that before really. Why should he start now? “Well if you’re not going to be helpful... Gwaine? Grass?” He rolled his eyes, “Ground?” Jesu this man was making I spy a tedious affair. He was quickly getting a grasp of Iwan’s personality, and it was his firm opinion that a couple of ales and a night with a woman would cheer him up no end. Perhaps that was just what he needed. Gwaine was sure he could arrange something, but Iwan wouldn’t appreciate it even if he did.
No interest in women? Did Iwan live in a hole? Gwaine half laughed, and then saw that Iwan was serious so he back tracked slightly and ran a hand through his hair. Right. How on earth could you not be interested in women? Gwaine couldn’t understand that at all. There were so many pretty faces to choose from in Camelot as well, so they were spoilt for choice. “Is that because women aren’t interested?” He joked, nudging Iwan in the side playfully as they continued the walk. Women were certainly interested in Gwaine and well, he had a reputation to maintain.

Gwaine never usually had this problem with women. Either this woman was impossibly stubborn, and blind, or he was losing his touch. It certainly wasn’t the latter, he could have any woman at this market eating out of the palm of his hands within moments. When he had wanted a challenge, he wanted one which would at least have some sort of achievement by the end of it. He didn’t want to waste his time and efforts with a woman who wouldn’t even smile at him. What would be the point in that? This was the problems with trying to charm noblewomen, they just confirmed his own opinions about nobility on the whole. This woman had probably never known hardship, no, he could see it in her eyes. So she didn’t like being called delicate, that was fine, she was clearly the independent sort, and Gwaine should have realised that from the off really. “Would you prefer it if I called you beautiful then? Or charming? Or how about elegant?” He winked at her, compliments came as easy to him as leaves grew on trees. It was a fact of nature, sort of. She probably thought she was important, even unique. She wasn’t really, or more he wasn’t from what Gwaine could see.
Gosh, she was impatient as well. She clearly appreciated the finer things in life, which befitted her status, but it wasn’t very... fun. If he had offered a jewel to another woman, just any woman, their eyes would have lit up, and he would have got a buzz from just knowing he had caused that reaction. Even if he had the jewel he probably wouldn’t waste it on this woman. “Are you this impatient all the time?” He asked quizzically, with a grin. Isabel, what a pretty little name. He cocked a grin at her, even though he had got a name that was only half the bother really. There was no point in getting a name and simply leaving it at that was there? He continued to grin, and leant on the stall in front of him, “I would be happier if you smiled at me, my Lady. A frown doesn’t suit you.” It would probably irritate her more if she grew to like him, and Gwaine’s pride wouldn’t just let him walk away.

Well, how he had lasted this long without falling for Gwaine’s charms was still confusing the man. He couldn’t understand why Iwan was still refusing to see the fun side of life, and open up to the world around him. Gwaine’s spirit was free, mainly because that was what his lifestyle had been all the time he had been wandering. He doubted Iwan could cope a night without a freshly made bed, he seemed like the sort of knight who had to brush his cloak down every night to get rid of any specs of dust that may have infected it. Gwaine was finding it harder and harder to find a common ground with the man, which was something that he didn’t usually have a problem with. Usually he could find some interest, no matter how remote, but the only thing he seemed to have in common with Iwan was that they were both Knights of Camelot. “Well, how much longer can you last?” Gwaine asked with a grin.
He was quite impressed that Iwan was still playing his game of I spy. He had figured he would just give up, and leave him to it. However, he was still game, so it was something at least. He looked around him, for something beginning with G. It would be incredibly unimaginative if he was just spying his fellow brother really. Iwan wasn’t engaging with this very well, though that was to be expected of course. He nudged Iwan playfully with his side, “Give us a clue then.”
Gwaine couldn’t really see the problem with him bonding with Iwan. It might even lighten the man up a little bit. They still had quite a long walk to go, so Iwan would have to put on a brave face for it. In truth, Gwaine was taking this seriously, there was nothing more important to him than the safety of those within Camelot, no matter what Iwan thought. However, Iwan was just too much fun to toy with. “What’s the problem with bonding?” He asked rather innocently, well, as innocently as Gwaine could manage anyway, “You know, life is always better when you smile. You never know, women might even start to like you.”

Well, Gwaine was more of an expert in charming women than most men in Camelot, at least he liked to think he was. He was always fashioning himself as the rugged night of Camelot, and took great pride in taking care of that reputation. He flashed a grin at Elyan, “Are you sure? I could teach you a thing or two about how to make women practically fall at your feet.” It was true, and it probably wouldn’t take that long, after all Elyan wasn’t bad looking, he wasn’t as good looking as Gwaine, but still he couldn’t see why women wouldn’t be attracted to him. Well, they would be attracted to Elyan as long as Gwaine wasn’t in the picture.
Gwaine was disappointed in a sense that Elyan wasn’t up for a round of charm. When he had taken Percival to the tavern a couple of months ago, their charming had hilarious consequences. The man had ended up losing his shirt to a pretty young barmaid in an odd set of circumstances. Gwaine hadn’t been able to look at the lady in question in the same way again, though he kept tight hold of his shirt whenever she was around. There were some things he sacrificed to women, and other things he didn’t. His warmth was one of the things he didn’t. He had no problems with a woman removing his shirt behind closed doors, but that was altogether another matter. “We can just gamble the night away if you prefer? I always have the winning hand anyway.” He tapped the side of his nose and grinned. He had a knack for this type of thing and he could usually do it perfectly and take home the gold.
As they had reached the tavern, Gwaine opened the door like a gentleman and flashed a grin to Elyan. This night certainly would be eventful one way or the other, especially because he was involved. Really, Elyan didn’t know what he was letting himself in for. He wouldn’t forget this night for a long time, well, if he wasn’t drunk enough to forget it that was. “After you handsome.” He winked jokingly, and gestured for Elyan to enter the tavern before him, as Gwaine was holding the door wide open. He could already feel the heat from the tavern escaping into the cold night air, and the murmer of people within told Gwaine this would be a lively night at the Rising Sun.

Stop? Jesu no, Gwaine would have to reach a low point in his life before he considered giving up bar brawls, drinking and women. He’d have to be old, and incapable of stomaching any of those things, though Gwaine doubted his appetite for women and ale would ever subside. Really, he should just marry a bar maid, or a tavern owner’s daughter. That would set him up for life, set him up with ale that was. It was safe to say Gwaine was a man of pleasure, and enjoyed forging his own fate about these sorts of things. He didn’t want to be out on the streets in his old age, but that was preferred so serving some stuck up noble. Gwaine had respect for Merlin, sort of, for his loyalty to Arthur. He didn’t understand it, he thought Arthur should let up on his friend, but he respected Merlin for just being so enthusiastic about everything all the time. Not any old average servant would go across the Perilous Lands for their Lord after all. It was something Gwaine hadn’t come across before, but he still didn’t understand it. Anyway, Gwaine wasn’t here for Arthur, he was here for his friend; Merlin. “The day I give up drinking will be the day I die.” Gwaine said rather comfortably, and nudged on his horse.
The trident of the Fisher King? Wasn’t that well… lost? For a reason? In a way, Gwaine liked the idea of going and helping to retrieve it. There must be a reason that it hadn’t been sought out before, and that reason was probably dangerous and exciting, and everything Gwaine wanted out of life. “So why is he doing this exactly?” Gwaine then asked, as much as he liked the idea, it wasn’t something you just decided as you got up out of bed. Or at least Gwaine assumed not. Did Arthur do completely stupidly dangerous tasks like this all the time? “I never miss an opportunity for adventure.” Gwaine replied with a grin, “It gives me something to brag about in the taverns.”

Gwaine knew that Brynn would never see him as anything but a friend but it was still good to tease and jest with her. After all, where would Gwaine be without his charm? It was how he had got to where he was so far, and Gwaine wasn’t about to change who he was for anyone. It was still fun to jest and flirt with women around Camelot who would just sigh at him, and do nothing but ignore him. Gwaine had built up a reputation for himself across Camelot, and Albion, and he couldn’t exactly break his own conventions now could he? Gwaine wasn’t sure he would ever settle, and just live out a normal life. After all, where would be the fun in just going after one woman? She would certainly have to be something to behold to even tempt him. “Come on Brynn.” He cocked a grin at her, and continued to lead her down the lower town, “I know you’re just playing hard to get.” He finished it off with a wink, which was almost like his trademark in a sense. He was probably going to get a slap off her eventually. Hmm. That probably wouldn’t end well. Gwaine hadn’t been slapped in a while.
Gwaine knew how much Gyrth would appreciate some time with the knight. That wasn’t him inflating his own ego, ok maybe it was, but he knew that young lads loved a bit of time with their role models. He had idolised his father in much the same way. While Gwaine didn’t want to replace whatever affection Gyrth had for his father, as he was sure he idolised him too, he did just want to do what he could for the lad. He was rather fond of him, so commiting a few hours to teach him some fancy tricks with a sword that he could show off to his friends was no problem at all. Perhaps when he was older Brynn would trust him to teach her brother how to fight with a sword as well. Gwaine didn’t know anything about the other methods of fighting, such as with a staff or with archery, but if the boy had interest in those he was sure he could sort something out with his fellow knights. They were always willing to help after all. “Just as long as he has fun.” Gwaine said rather softly, and shrugged it off, like it was nothing. It was the least he could do for his friend after all.
Hmm, ok she had a point there. It depended on your definition of bad to describe how much of a threat Gwaine was to the unmarried women of Camelot. He knew many mothers had probably already prohibited their daughters from looking at him, but he wasn’t sure why. After all, he was a knight now, and that just made him more amiable. “Heh, the mothers are always the hardest to get round, mark my words Brynn.”

Gwaine was just sat back as mother and daughter continued to talk about this matter of Lady Caitrin’s labour. He couldn’t help but feel some concern. Though he was still quite weary about trusting the nobility because of his own personal reasons, but he was more willing now to give them a chance than he ever had been. He didn’t have a reason to hate his friend’s wife, no, he had more reason to secure her comfort and suchlike more than anything else. He owed it to Griff s his friend. He’d met Griff when he’d been at the bottom of his game, and when he’d hit rock bottom completely. However, the nobility aspect had only come in afterwards, which was slightly irritating as that was what had happened with him and Arthur. Perhaps Gwaine should be looking to change his opinions. Well, some nobility still lived up to his expectations, but Griff wasn’t one of those nobles so that was all that mattered at the moment.
Gwaine raised his eye brows at Meghan’s comment, and put a hand on his chest, stepping backwards as if her words had actually wounded him. He looked visibly shocked and half gasped. “I assure you Meghan, your bread is the only bread for me.” He winked at her, of course it wouldn’t work, because Meghan just seemed immune to his charm. Well, it was her loss at the end of the day, but there was no reason why Meghan shouldn’t at least appreciate him being around. He was a knight after all, and though he would never impose respect on people because of his status, he hadn’t done anything for her to hate him.
Once again, Gwaine just felt like he was in the background of this conversation, though he did feel a little relief that Meghan was basically saying that she would aid this woman in her labour. He was relieved of course, because it was his friends wife, and he didn’t want any harm to come to her naturally. He hadn’t ribbed Griff enough about the prospect of fatherhood, and being tied down. He would have to do that. Gwaine wondered how someone like Griff could just want to settle down all of a sudden, he and the man seemed to be in the same frame of mind about so many things. However, Griff had something Gwaine didn’t, and that was a wife, and it would soon be children as well. Gwaine on the other hand was still incredibly free, and he had no intention of settling down anytime soon. “I’m sure Griff will appreciate the help as well.” Gwaine put in softly and bit into his bread again, “You know, her husband.”

It had come as a complete shock to be sought out by Merlin after months of not being in Camelot. He hadn’t been expecting Merlin to come and find him for any reason, and he was more shocked that he’d tracked him down. Then again, he was always guaranteed to be in a tavern, so he supposed Merlin had a better chance than many at actually getting hold of him. Smiling to himself, Gwaine nudged on his horse, he had only got the basic details of what they were doing. Of course Arthur had got himself into some bother. Knowing him, he wouldn’t accept their help even if they found him, and even if he really needed it. Arthur was too typical sometimes, but Gwaine was glad that Merlin had found him. He’d been wondering after his friend after their last meeting, and though he was used to people floating in and out of his life, he was hoping that Merlin would pop up again.
Naturally, his friend had caught him in a bar brawl. Honestly, he’d get a reputation at this rate. He smirked back at Merlin as his friend jested with him. “Well, even when I win fairly, seems I can’t win.” It was true, men seemed to want his money no matter if he was the victor or whether he was the loser. It never seemed fair to Gwaine, but there you go. It was the way of the tavern, Gwaine didn’t point out to Merlin that he never won fairly, because there was no other way to win really. Gwaine nudged on his horse again, he didn’t really like the fact that they were on their way to the Northern Lands, there was a reason no one went there, and Gwaine didn’t really want to find out why. There wasn’t even a tavern that far north, how ridiculous. Why couldn’t Arthur be in trouble somewhere near a tavern, or in a tavern. Well, that would be too much good luck on Gwaine’s part wouldn’t it? “So what’s Arthur got himself into then?”
