-------Well this was just wonderful. Positively brilliant. This was the best idea his father had since he decided to lower the people's taxes. Nothing but bitterness and sarcasm filled the prince's thoughts. This was ridiculous. He could not believe his father was sending him to Lothian, before anything had even happened. It was widely recognized that there was tension building between the two kingdoms, but that was what Vortigern had been hoping for. Hell, he would have even found a way to administer the first attack to poke and provoke the Lothian royal family. Vortigern wanted a war! And now with this whole arrangement, it was diminishing that very possibility. He had no choice but to comply with the king, his father's commands, but one day when Vortigern took the throne, he would make sure he re-evaluated their allies. Perhaps even go as far as to dishonor this very peace treaty he was being sent to sign. But that was all in due time. For now, he would have to suck it up, put on a happy face, and pretend like he wanted peace for Sorelia and Lothian.
-------But it was not only these thoughts of peace treaties that his father had sent him for. Every word of the conversation as it replayed in his head, made the young prince cringe. "It would be an excellent way to solidify the peace." His father had told him. "Please father. I would much prefer to make this visit as short as possible." "You will have to marry eventually my son. And he has four daughters. Discover which are not committed to another and choose one of your liking." Vortigern's expression had been one of disgust. Not because he knew the women, but because he didn't want to know them. "I doubt any of them will be to my liking." Yes. Vortigern had high standards when it came to his future wife. And now the fact that his father had been insistent on him to explore this possibility, made Vortigern dread this trip even more.
-------But alas. Here he was. Moving towards the gates of the castle. He had his large army of escorts and councilmen behind and in front of him. Vortigern was void of any armor. Instead, he wore an attire with silver work, and highly expensive black material. Yes; black. A color of mourning. How appropriate he thought to himself. Or he could just make up another excuse and say that black was a color of sophistication; slimming. He pulled his mind out of thoughts of what he was clad in and looked towards the gates, slowly pulling his horse to a halt. He dismounted and barley watched one of the servants take the reigns and lead his horse elsewhere. The knight who greeted them told him that they were waiting for his arrival in the grand hall. Vortigern said nothing, and just silently followed. He had to put on his respectful face. A subtle smile, a proud stride, and could do nothing but endure his time here; until his visit to hell came at an end.
-------He didn't bother looking around at the intricacies of the castle and he walked through it. He just quietly followed their guide, his line of knights and nobles behind him. When they reached the doors, the Lothian man entered first and as soon as Vortigern heard his name announced, he entered, his gaze focused on the king and his son. "King Lot," he greeted in a formal voice, as he lowered his head in a respectful bow. "Prince Viktor," he also acknowledged. He might as well. His father had told him to be as respectful as possible. He had come here as the sole representative of the royal family of Soleria; he had to make a good impression, for now. When Vortigern was king, everything would be different. He anticipated that his meeting with King Lot and his son would be of a very different pace and mood. However for now, this is what it was, and for now, he had to honor that...unfortunately.

| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Vortigern stands tall and has a muscular build, as expected from any man who commenced training at a young age. However, he uses his height and build to make himself appear as intimidating as he can, especially to his subjects. He is usually dressed in armor, one of a dark color, or regular clothing which he always ensures is of the highest taste and expense. He is very vain when it comes to his appearance, having no problems with showing off the wealth that he has possessed since birth. He always carries himself with his head high, his nose turned down at those beneath them, and with a less than warm and kind aura surrounding him. .:Height:. 6”2’ .:Portrayed by:. Henry Cavill
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Vortigern is very used to getting his way in almost every aspect of his life. As the sole son, he is extremely spoiled and has grown up to be vain, boastful, and tremendously arrogant. He fully enjoys the luxuries of his royal life, and asserts his authority every chance he gets. He expects others to listen to him, not daring to disobey or ignore his words. His concept of justice and diplomacy are a bit skewed. He rules through fear, rather than genuinely earning the love of his people. He would rather they follow rule because they are too afraid to do otherwise. He of course had not been automatically given this; to rule by fear, one must instill fear in the people. And Vortigern was able to achieve this as the general of his army. He has spent his life building the reputation of a ruthless and fearful man, which gives him a strong presence yet one that is never desired, but rather dreaded, by the people. .:Traits:. Insensitive, cold, unsympathetic, violent, selfish, honest [brutally so], intelligent, impulsive, a bit chauvinistic .:Strengths:. Is a strong combatant, excellent strategist, good leader .:Weaknesses:. Impatient, used to getting his way, arrogant, feared not loved .:Likes:. Obedience, provoking others, asserting his authority, violence as a means to solve things, spreading fear, having and maintaining a sinister reputation .:Dislikes:. Others not listening to him, failure, over emotional people and sensitivity, too much talking, being told what to do, anyone undermining his authority .:Magic Abilities:. None .:Special Skills:. He has the basic skills of a man trained from birth, one meant to be the general of the army as well as a prince, and future heir to the throne. He is well versed in combat, politics, and strategy. He has sharp reflexes, and his impulsiveness can make him a bit unpredictable at times. .:Accents:. Upper class English
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Sorelia .:Family:. Gildas: his father: he is still alive but bed ridden Rowena: his mother, deceased Five sisters [Naevia, Livia, Diona, Aurelia, Rowena [the youngest named after her mother] : all married for political gain Geoffery: his father’s brother who lives at the castle with them as a prominent figure in the council .:Occupation:. Army General, Prince, Heir to the throne .:Current Location of Residence:. Sorelia .:History:. The kingdom of Sorelia has been in the family for many generations. Gildas was a strong ruler, following in the footsteps of his father, and fathers before him. He was not an overly empathetic leader, as he cared more for gaining power and wealth above meeting all the personal needs of the civilians. Still, he kept that fair balance to avoid any sort of civil uproar and rebellion. The moment Vortigern was born, the entire kingdom rejoiced for they had a confirmed future king of the land. Vortigern was brought up, trained in combat, warfare, politics, academics, and all those other subjects he was expected to display intellect and strength in. He was like any prince and as he gained more siblings, it was becoming clear that he would be the only heir to the throne. He was given five sisters, but the fifth and last one, cost the life of his mother.
This, like any death in any family, caused devastation but Vortigern and Gildas were men of little emotional display. Life went on in the absence of a queen, as it was expected that she would someday be replaced by Vortigern’s undetermined wife. As the years went on, there was a shift in the overall mood of the kingdom. Gildas began to grow ill, and was no longer fit to lead the army. Because of this, Vortigern was given the role of general at a rather young age and with this position of power and leadership, came many responsibilities. Vortigern was prepared for the role, however, not in the way others expected. He had a different mindset than his father; different values and methods of doing things. While he still followed his father’s commands, he fulfilled them through fear and violence, rather than just expected obedience. Vortigern feels that this is a far more effective way of rule, rather than being passive and timid.
Thus, began his ‘reign of terror’. The people grew to fear Vortigern. Where a man in his role is expected to be the one that the people trust with their security and protection, they are genuinely afraid of him and only give him loyalty because they fear his wrath. The only thing that keeps Vortigern somewhat under control, is the fact that his father is still alive for Gildas is the only one that Vortigern listens to. Presently, Gildas is bed ridden, weakening day by day. He still is the ultimate authority in the kingdom, and Vortigern continues to follow out his commands, though they are given with ambiguity and as long as the job gets done, Vortigern is able to use his sinister creativity to carry out his orders. All of his sisters were married off at a young age, and not a single one was given the liberty to choose her husband. They were married for political gain and these alliances through matrimony have greatly strengthened the kingdom, giving them a great deal more power and wealth. Vortigern remains unmarried; though proposals have been offered, he is very, very picky in the selection of his wife.
Vortigern continues his duties as prince and knight, his dark reputation well spread throughout the kingdom, and even beyond. He has a strong craving for war though knows that his father is doing what he can to avoid this. It is thanks to Gildas that Sorelia is on relatively decent terms with other kingdoms (yes, they even have allies), and that Vortigern’s appetite for war has not cost the kingdom one, yet. Needless to say, Vortigern has many plans for when he is king, and the people of Sorelia fear this very day when Gildas is dead, and Vortigern takes his position on the throne.
