Aidan didn't particularly want to get into a conversation about his shortcomings. It would only serve to depress him and bore her. Surely she could already see his problem? No one was ever going to think of him as anything but a cripple. It was all his father and brother saw - well, that and his being a burden. It wasn't the best way to increase his self-confidence. "Past experience tells me fine men usually have fully working limbs." He replied and shrugged, trying to remain nonchalant. "But, were I a finer man I probably wouldn't be here in need of your care. So I cannot complain too much." That probably wasn't strictly true - even without his limp he wouldn't be much good in a fight, but that didn't matter. But he found himself rather unsure how to speak or act alone with a woman so decided that flattery was probably the best option.
Her words struck a chord with him. He, too, had spent the majority of his life indoors with nothing but his books. He'd learnt to live without much rea human contact until his teens when he'd been forced to at least try to be sociable. But before that his life revolved around learning new things and occupying his mind with himself and the castle's library. "You're a fan of reading too?" This was something he actually knew he could talk about it, and was quite keen to exploit such a rarity. "I suppose you could describe me as cooped up too, and, like you I found myself turning to reading." He didn't reply to her comment about her father, if he was anything like his, he assumed it would be a rather sore subject for the woman. Upsetting or offending her was the last thing he wanted too, especially as he was injured already.

Right...she was definitely, definitely, being beyond a doubt inappropriate. Of this Aidan was absolutely certain, and really, really hoping he was right. It was awkward enough with his certainty, it would be horrendous if she was being completely innocence. But she couldn't be being innocent. There was too much of a tone in her voice. Caitrin knew exactly what she was doing, and it was making Aidan even more uncomfortable because now he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing. Was he supposed to be playing along or being honourable? Which one was more likely to offend? And, if he was supposed to be playing along...how far? Aidan's experiences with women could be summed up in one word: none. Whereas Caitrin's experiences with men would probably need an entire library.
"Well," he cleared his throat, trying to pay attention to the conversation and not how his thoughts were wandering. This was probably the effect she'd been trying to acheieve, which was all very well and good, but Aidan was still at a complete loss as to how he was supposed to act. If she could just stop being all...innuendo-y and just tell him what was going on everything would be so much easier. "I'm sure you have many...and that will be...enjoyable..." He really wasn't good at this whole flirtation business and his awkwardness was just making that all the more apparent. If he had the confidence he could just blag his way through their entire conversation. Unfortunately all he could do was sit there and try not to offend her.
“I could give you a tour of the estate? It might give us a chance to get to know each other better.”
He almost choked on his wine. Get to know...? She couldn't possibly mean what he was thinking of? He'd heard some, quite frankly, startling rumours about Caitrin de Archer but even so. She was using that tone again - the one that was telling him that his understanding was indeed correct, despite what his sense of propriety was trying to tell him. But that was not the worst part, or even the most confusing part. Aidan wasn't actually sure which meaning he wanted to be true. Yes, part of him was all for running away but another part of him was finding Caitrin's manner increasingly more attractive. There was just...something about her. She was beautiful, of course she was, and the more she flirted the worse his thoughts were becoming. Maybe getting to know her was the way forward - not like that - but in order to...convince himself that she was not in any way being suggestive or inappropriate. "A tour sounds...well I'm sure it would be very interesting and erm, much appreciated."

Apologies for the wait
Was she...blushing? Aidan was confused. Blushing would mean she was embarrassed, hmm, alright, that might make sense but it seemed an awfully silly thing to be embarrassed about. He was actually rather glad she'd bumped into him. It had given him the perfect excuse to engage her in conversation again. He shook his head at her question, even if Elenora had managed to hurt him he was far too preoccupied to care. "Oh, no, I'm fine. How about you? Are you hurt? Well- are you well?" Obviously he was determined to be as smooth and charming as he had been during their first meeting. He had hoped his social skills would have improved but apparantly that was a hope unfullfilled. Usually he didn't care - he'd never been one for socialising, despite his brother's best efforts. He'd just amuse himself and not bother with what anyone else was doing. But, rather confusingly and irritatingly, he found himself wanting to bother with Elenora. He wanted her to think he was actually capable of conversing with people, only he wasn't any good at proving that.
"Oh it wasn't a problem. Not at all." He smiled. Picking up her books had hardly been a taxing task, and, as he had previously thought, it had given him an excuse to talk to her. He wasn't one for just announcing his presense, he was one for standing awkwardly and waiting for people to drop their books all over the floor. "Me?" Well, of course him, he thought, cringing slightly at his stupid question. "I was looking for, well, something to read." He shrugged, lifting his own pile of books slightly as if to emphasise the point. "I thought I'd try some science." It was all herbology mainly, last week it had been histories of other kingdoms in Albion. Aidan had a habit of finding everything interesting for about five minutes and then moving onto something much more exciting. As a result, he hardly finished any books but just kept adding new ones. "What about you?" Yet another stupid question - there were only so many resons why Elenora would be walking out of a library with so many books in her hand. "I mean...what are you reading?"

There was probably only one place, other than his own chambers, that Aidan felt comfortable. Well, alright, that wasn't entirely true. Usually wherever he and Arthur were was somewhere he could be comfortable - the prince was one of the few people who actually accepted Aidan the way he was. He'd been a good friend since they were children, but now he was getting older he was being given more and more responsibilities and so Aidan was finding himself alone more frequently. He didn't mind though, he'd spent a lot of his life alone, it was just what he was used to. And it gave him more time for reading, one of his greatest pleasures. When he wasn't in his own chambers or with Arthur or being forced into some horrible situation with Struan he could be found in the castle's library. It had everything he could possibly want in there, and more, and this was not the first time he'd completely lost track of time while he was there. He'd only been intending to borrow a book but he couldn't decided which one he wanted and ended up on the floor surrounded by piles - that's when he saw her.
Elenora hadn't seen him, or at least she hadn't acknowledged him. Maybe she'd forgotten who she was, it had been a fair few months since they'd met, and it was only a short meeting in which he was awkward and unable to hold a conversation and she'd been pulled away by some dancing dimwit - or at least Aidan liked to think he was a dimwit. Not that that was important right now, he was far too busy watching Elenora finding her own books and remembering that she'd said she had a passion for reading. He thought he heard something behind him, turned around to find nothing and when he looked back she'd disappeared. Well that was just brilliant, wasn't it?
Fortunately, that was not to be the last he saw of her. He'd been on his way out, literally in front of the door, when he remembered he'd forgotten one of the books from the pile that had been on the floor. Just as he turned around he felt someone collide into him and heard a load of books falling to the floor. Immediately he bent down to pick them up, not noticing who they had been held by. Wait a moment-
"Oh God! I'm so sorry!"
He knew that voice! "Lady Elenora!" He half exclaimed, surprised to see her again. "Please don't apologise, I-I should have been looking where I was going." He continued to gather the books together, accidentally brushing his hand against hers. For a moment he just stared at her hand before remembering himself and looking back at her. "It's not a problem at all." Of course it wasn't a problem. This was his chance to actually have a conversation with her - a proper one without awkwardness or his brother making comments or the dancing dimwit and he was going to make the most of it.

Did she say she enjoyed reading? Aidan's attention was caught far more than it had been before. He had been trying to find something, anything that he could discuss with her - as dancing was not an option for him - but he'd been far too awkward, as usual. If she enjoyed reading though...well, that was something he could talk about at great length. Ever since his injury he would spend days in his room with nothing but books to keep him company. That was probably the reason why he was quite so socially awkward. He didn't talk to people, he just read about them. "Reading? What a coincidence," his smile grew, "I am an avid reader myself."
He frowned slightly, noticing the falter in her voice. Had he managed to upset her? That would be just his luck. He had finally landed upon a topic he could discuss with confidence and readiness but before they could get to the actual discussion he'd somehow managed to offend her. This was very smoothly done.
Elenora was now looking straight into his eyes, something he found rather unnerving, but also rather pleasant at the same time. It was all rather confusing. Maybe he should say something? But, of course the words weren't coming and it was soon too late as they were interrupted. Aidan looked at the man, eyes narrowing slightly. They had been in the middle of a conversation and now the very man she had been dancing with had come to take her away again. He didn't bother acknowledging the man, he wasn't paying Aidan any attention so it wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
Maybe it was just wishful thinking on his part, but Elenora didn't seem particularly enthused about leaving. It probably was just wishful thinking - dancing was no doubt a much more enjoyable past time, but her last words made him question that thought. Hoped to? Hoped to what? What did she hope to do? The damned man - tearing her away before she could finish her sentence. Aidan just stood there, watching as she left, so of course the next voice he heard had to be Struan's because anyone else might have gone and done something like said something useful.
"Well this is all going well."
"Yes, thank you, Struan."
"Come on," Struan put an arm around his brother's shoulder, "We can go now."

Aidan held up his own goblet before repeating her words, "To the prince's birthday," he looked at Elenora, that small smile finding its way onto his lips again, "And to new acquaintances." Somehow that seemed like the better part of the toast to him. Of course he and Arthur were good friends and had been since childhood and he was pleased to celebrate his birthday but, well, he had one every year and would continue to do for a fair few more years to come. Whereas Elenora...she was someone new and therefore far more important than celebrating a friend being older without said friend being there.
His eyes briefly scanned the room, trying to see if he could spot Arthur but didn't manage to. He was probably off speaking to various nobles without standing there looking awkward and/or annoyed. Aidan had always envied Arthur in that respect - he was always so good at talking people, then again, he was the future King of Camelot. Talking to people was required. Aidan, on the other hand, he just shuffled about or spoke about mundane things.
He turned his attention back to Elenora and tried to think of something to say but found the ability to do that had completely escaped him. How wonderful that was. "So...I see you are a fan of dancing," he took a sip of his goblet, trying to buy himself some time, "Is there anything else...you...enjoy?" Well that was as smooth as ever...

Elenora had smiled up at him, and he couldn't help but notice just how beautiful a smile it was. In truth he hadn't seen the smile of all that many women, but even if he had he could say with some certainty it was probably of the most beautiful. It just had a lightness about it, and he couldn't help but smile back. He was glad she'd enjoyed herself, which was strange because it didn't make a matter to him. Similarly, he couldn't help but feel...something as yet indescrible when she accepted his offer to get her drink. Useful was definitely a word that sprang to mind, and one that was so seldom used when describing Aidan, but it wasn't simply that. He'd only just met the woman, and all of a sudden he was smiling because he was about to get a drink for her. It was all rather mad.
"Then I shall not keep you waiting," he replied, still smiling and gave her a quick bow before going to find a servant. As much as he wanted to, he didn't look back at her. Something told him that would be appearing a little too keen. He wanted to make a good impression, not look like he was a stalker of some kind, or just over excited about speaking to a woman. No, he was trying to be cool and collected, and hopefully charming but that wasn't very likely to happen.
When he returned to her it was with two goblet in his hand, one that he passed to Elenora and one he kept for himself. He hadn't asked her what she'd wanted and suddenly he was paranoid he'd chosen the wrong thing. He decided not to say anything though, and just hoped she wouldn't notice if it wasn't right. "What shall we drink to?" He asked, that smile still on his face.

It was rather embarrassing for Aidan, having a woman - a woman of noble birth, he might add - having to tend to his wounds. It was made all the more embarrassing by the fact he was so obviously in pain. It wasn't particularly brave or gallant behaviour, but at present it was the best he could do. Really, it was no wonder he never made it as a knight - accident or no. If this was how he coped from a little injury, he'd be no use to anyone in a war.
He smiled at Romily's words although he found himself unable to agree. His non-existent wife, whoever she might be, would not find herself so lucky to be married to a cripped younger son. No woman who came courting at the d'Amory estate would be looking for Aidan. His brother was the much finer choice, probably less fun, but fun wasn't really taken into consideration when marriage was discussed. "You flatter me. I am not nearly as fine a man as you think." His words were said with a light-hearted tone, but there was an all too familiar truth about them. He wasn't a fine man by anyone's standards, no matter how much Romily flattered him.
At her words about her kingdom he waved a hand dismissively. She had no need to sound quite so apologetic. Thieves would find him no matter what kingdom he went to and anyway, there was no point dwelling on that now. What had happened had happened, but if it hadn't then he would be closer to his father instead of here, and right now here seemed like the much better prospect. If anything, the thieves had done him quite the favour. "Think nothing of it, the whole of Albion is filled with those who wish others harm. I promise I will not let it tarnish my view of your kingdom," he grinned, he was teasing her but there was a truth in his words as well. "I cannot thank you enough for your kindness." He said seriously, looking down to see her work. It was rather well done, he had to admit. "You have a natural talent, or do you make it a habit of rescuing people?"

It seemed like a rather long time before Sebastian answered and with each passing second Aidan was becoming convinced that he'd said the wrong thing. If he had offended the prince his brother was definitely not going to be happy about it. In Aidan's defence, Sebastian's words had struck a particular chord. Perhaps if he had attended more feasts and public gatherings he would have learn to hold his tongue, or at least how to argue his case without the danger of offending anyone. But Aidan had spent far too long on his own, studying the world through dusty pages that never got upset no matter what he did. He was quite unused to having to think about how other people may perceive what he said and did, and was a little unsure on his feet in such situations.
Struan had managed to throw him into this situation, one that he was entirely unprepared for. He wasn't a diplomat, he was the youngest son of a lord, and a crippled one at that. His highest expectation in life was trying to find some woman to provide him financial security. As such, he was rather at a loss when it came to conversing with royals, even more so when said royal was proving to be equally unenthusiastic about their conversation. "I apologise if my words offended, sire." His words came out rather quickly, he really didn't want to make an enemy out of the man. "I spoke only from my own perspective. I'm afraid I'm not much good at such discussions either." He paused, not quite sure what to say, before finally asking, "What your your highness prefer to talk about?"

Aidan was no longer sure what was expected of him anymore. He'd been throw into this situation knowing virtually nothing about Lady Caitrin and expecting to be dining with her uncle as well and now he was sat there trying to work out whether she was being inappropriate or not. If she wasn't then he was being very ungentlemanly for thinking so, if she was - was this a test? Was he supposed to be being inappropriate back (not that he really knew how to do that) or to just run away, metaphorically speaking of course. It was all very confusing and something Aidan really hadn't been expecting. How he hated formal dinners.
She was winking at him, and biting her lip in a rather suggestive manner so it was more likely that she was being intentionally inappropriate. Well that was one question answered at least. It didn't make him feel any better though. Did he actually want her being quite so forward? She was beautiful, yes, and, if the rumours were true, rather experienced, but still, he was probably supposed to just sit there and try not to stare at her chest. "I'm sure you could. A young woman like you must have many talents." That sounded a lot better in his head. He was just going to have to go with that one now and accept that he'd just given her more cause to be inappropriate.
It was fairly obvious - even to Aidan and his lack of people skills - that Caitrin was not overly enthusiastic about discussing the weather. He'd panicked and inevitably said the wrong thing. But now she was suggesting taking a tour of the gardens and although he could probably do with the fresh air their dinner was in the process of being prepared and he didn't want to be late for that. Food would give him something else to focus on, or give him another oppurtunity to be awkward and nervous. "No, no, I'm fine to stay here. Unless you want some fresh air. It is rather," he cleared his throat, "Stuffy in here."

Aidan nodded at her words, trying to look like he was interested. He was interested, he just wasn't always that good at looking like it. He'd been told, by Struan, naturally, that most of the time he just looked confused or slightly annoyed. Neither was an expression he particuarly cared for in this instance. "Well you have acheived more than I. I lack the energy for just one dance." And the knowledge of how to dance in the first place but he wasn't going to say that. He'd already made a bad enough impression whilst talking of dancing. Hmm, hopefully that meant it couldn't get any worse, but with Aidan worse was always a possibility.
He too had wanted a drink, if only to escape his brother, but would not accept her offer. It was hardly gentlemanly behaviour to sit around while a woman fetched his drink. And, of course, there was the old impression to be thought about. Not dancing and making Elenora get him a drink? Definitely not a good start. "Yes, but please, allow me." He said with a smile, hoping this offer could salvage her opinion of him.

Havins successfully shut Struan up for at least a minute, Aidan took his oppurtunity to escape his brother's rather unnecessary comments and ever so subtley made his way across the hall. He kept glancing at Elenora, despite trying not to. The best thing to distract himself with seemed to be a drink - and hopefully he'd find someone else to talk to while he was at it. Only he didn't have such luck. No, he had to go and step on the foot of Lady Elenora. Because obviously he hadn't made a fool of himself enough.
"It was my fault entirely, please forgive me." His words were a little rushed, but he was eager to get his apology out. He didn't want her thinking of him any worse than she already did, only he was at a complete loss as to why exactly that was.
He had been trying to find someone to talk to, and to save him from another conversation with Struan, but he'd been rather hoping to find someone that wasn't Elenora. He'd only say the wrong thing again. "I saw you dancing," he began, feeling slightly like a stalker. "Did you...enjoy?" It seemed this conversation was going as well as their last one. Wonderful.

Aidan seemed to have offended the man with his question when he hadn't been meaning to at all. He wasn't very good at making conversation, especially with someone he's only met about thirty seconds prior and so had just thought of anything to say. Obviously it had been the wrong thing, but then that wasn't very surprising. This was just like when he'd first met Lady Elenora. No sooner had he made a comment about not liking dancing she had abandoned him to find someone who did. Maybe Sebastian was already trying to find an excuse to make his own exist. Aidan wouldn't blame him - it seemed neither of them particularly wanted to be in this conversation.
He considered Sebastian's question carefully - was this some kind of test? He'd never met a royal who seemed to think so little of their own title. Normally those with them were far too busy throwing them around to care about how important they actually were. To Aidan, his title was just about the only thing he had going for him, and even that managed to restrict him even more. Without a title he wouldn't be forced into awkward situations like this, and Struan wouldn't be trying to find him some nice, equally titled but richer wife. But he didn't want to offend Sebastian further, and had a feeling that the man was expecting an answer of agreement. "Well I, I wouldn't know much about how...how little titles mean...but I would not hold it against a man to value it. It is part of who they are, after all."

Struan, being Struan, wasn't helping the situation and while Aidan was trying to stand nonchalantly, his brother kept making comments. The youngest d'Amory was trying to ingore him because he was using most of his concentration of looking nonplussed, rather than responding. He was almost certain he'd offended Elenora in some way as she'd practically ran off. Well, alright, she'd been dragged off by her sister, but even so. She kept looking back at him though, so he kept having to avert his gaze and pretend he was't looking at her and ended up making it horribly obvious that he was.
At least Struan was enjoying himself. "You, brother, are a master of subtlety."
Aidan glared at him. He'd only gone over so he didn't have to stand by himself but now he was seriously regretting that. Standing alone was a much more attractive prospect now. "I'm not trying to be subtle."
"Evidently." Struan was watching Elenora as well, only he wasn't pretending he wasn't. He cocked his head, trying to work out what was going on between her and the man she's talking to. "Ooh, there's been a development."
Aidan tries a casual "Oh?" like he doesn't care either way. Well, he does. The one time he actually tries to talk to a girl and she just goes off and finds someone more interesting. This was why he didn't like social events. He didn't like people.
As he watched Elenora made her way into the centre of the room with her sister and the man, and Struan starts pulling faces. "Looks like she's found someone more...equipped for such events." He says, looking on while a circle is formed and Elenora ends up holdings hands with a secnd man.
"Be quiet, Struan."
"Or what?" Struan teased, evidentally enjoying his brother's reaction. "You'll march over there and demand she dance with you instead? Slight problem with that: you can't dance."
No, he can't dance (and even if he could the likelihood of him "marching over and demanding she dance with him instead" was very slim). He could elbow his brother though.
"Ow."
Aidan just smiles before turning his attention back to Elenora.

Elenora's silence made it quite clear to Aidan that he'd said the wrong thing. How wonderful. It seemed he always managed to say the wrong thing, so this shouldn't really be that much of a surprise to him. But he'd wanted to say the right thing, not only because it would make a nice change, but also because it was such a rarity for him to actually be making conversation with a member of the opposite sex who wasn't either his mother or a servant. He'd never find himself a wife at this rate, and be stuck with his damned brother forever. He could hear Struan's voice, or rather, Struan's laugh and a very unhelpful comment and tried to push it to the back of his mind. That was not going to help at all, not that many things could salvage the situation.
Before he had a chance to say something - not that he had anything to say, but before he could even think of something, a young girl had appeared and requested Elenora leave with her - something about some nobleman from Gawaint, Aidan notes with irritation. As the girls both curtsey, Aidan bows, catching Elenora's comment. So she was annoyed about that then, brilliant. And then off she goes, and Aidan's left standing there wondering what to do with himself.
Rather unfortunately, Struan had been watching the whole thing and was now at his brother's side.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Well there's obviously something."
Struan merely shrugs. "I do hope you weren't attempting to woo that young lady, if so, that was an appalling display." There was a pause and the older man looked rather pityingly at his brother. "She might come back you know...once she's done talking to someone far more charming...wouldn't count on it though."
Aidan was that close to punching him in the face, but years of such conversations and taught him to control himself. Instead he just pressed his lips together into a forced smile and wished he could just leave.

Aidan gave a small smile at Elenora’s words; it was probably painstakingly obvious just how nervous he was. Deciding to talk her had definitely been a bad move – he may be in search of a wife but that didn’t mean he was actually good at doing anything about it. If he had his way he’d just disappear and find himself somewhere nice and quiet but he couldn’t exactly do that, firstly because it would be the height of bad manners and secondly because he was supposed to be celebrating his friend’s birthday, not running away.
“Yes, I do agree.” He replied, in actual fact he hadn’t given the food or wine much thought, he’d been too busy trying to avoid eye contact with people and as for the dancing...well, it was best to the indulging to those who were able to. There was something about the way Elenora spoke that made him think she was hinting and wanted to dance – it would certainly give them something to do, that was, if he was any good. He’d never learnt to dance before his accident and afterwards he’d never wanted to for fear that it was something that he simply wasn’t going to be able to do or something that would only embarrass. He did have some pride though and he didn’t want to admit to Elenora that he couldn’t dance because he was scared of embarrassment.
“Except for indulging in dancing – I find no pleasure in the pastime.” Well, that was true. “Merely excessive frivolity.” Right...he should have probably stopped as “pastime” – he was trying to get her to like him, not think he was some pompous noble who was too rigid to dance. Well, this was certainly going well.”

Aidan was almost suspicious of the man. In his experience royalty didn’t like to go around being called only by their first name, especially by people of a lesser rank. Maybe this “Sebastian” was up to something, or maybe he just preferred to be called by his first name and Aidan was trying to find something wrong with him in order to justify his reluctance to converse with him. It could be either one. He wasn’t quite sure how to reply though – was a reply even expected or was it just something to take on board? Aidan didn’t know so he just remained quiet. If there was a reply to be had he was sure Struan would provide it.
“I am afraid I must leave you both,” Struan said suddenly, part of his plan was to leave Aidan so he’d be forced to have an actual conversation with someone. “I have very urgent business to discuss with another lord.”
Aidan, not being an idiot, was well aware that his brother didn’t have any business to attend to. He shot him a definite look that practically shouted at him to stay there. The younger d’Amory was not good in social situations at all. But Struan just ignored him. “I do apologise, Sebastian and hope we see each other again before your visit is over.”
Aidan watched him go in a not-terribly subtle way before turning back to Sebastian. Right then...what exactly was he supposed to do now? Make awkward small talk, obviously. “So...being a prince...enjoying that?”

Aidan was sure Caitrin was being inappropriate now. There was no way she could be saying what she was with any innocence. The only problem with this revelation was that he wasn’t actually sure what to do now. Talking to people wasn’t one of his strong points, unless he happened to know that person for several years and, preferably, that person wasn’t a female and they definitely weren’t flirting with him. He shuffled rather uncomfortably. What was he supposed to say to that? “I’m sure you wouldn’t.” He replied – was that the sort of thing she was looking for? This was all rather unchartered territory and he didn’t want to disappoint.
It seemed Caitrin wasn’t making any effort to make Aidan feel any less comfortable. Winking and speaking in that tone of voice definitely weren’t making the situation better and he was quite convinced that her thoughts were anything but innocent. He took the goblet from her gratefully, “Thank you.” Right, wine, a beautiful woman...what could go wrong? There probably wasn’t enough time to answer that. “How are you going to stop me?” He asked, not entirely sure why he was saying that. It sounded like a good idea at the time.
Right. She was definitely doing this on purpose now. He immediately diverted his gaze and started staring at the floor. When Caitrin hadn’t moved he shuffled rather uncomfortably. What was he supposed to do? “Erm...well...I believe it is customary in situations like this to...erm...” it was rather difficult to keep looking at the floor as she was now sitting next to him and rather too close. “Discuss the weather. How are you finding the weather?”

Aidan watched Romily as she started attending to him, there was nothing else for him to look at and he could hardly completely ignore her. It did feel slightly awkward though, just staring at her as she attended to his wounds. He wasn’t one to stare at women under normal circumstances, well, hopefully not quite so obviously. He flinched as the cloth touched his skin, of course he’d been expecting it to sting, these things always did but it didn’t stop him reacting in such a way. This wasn’t him showing Romily just how masculine he could be, in fact it was proving the opposite was true. At the moment it wasn’t making him feel a little more comfortable at all, it was just giving him more pain, despite the fact that it was doing him good. It didn’t feel good right now. It just hurt more.
He was taken completely off guard at her mention of his, as it happened, non-existent wife. When did the conversation take this particular turn? “Oh, I, I’m not married.” He replied rather quickly. No matter how much he, or his brother and father tried, he still hadn’t managed to find someone who would actually have him. He wasn’t looking for some wonderful woman who he would fall head over heels in love with and devote every second of his life to her happiness. He just wanted someone rich. “Don’t apologise, I’d rather talk about my non-existent wife than my not being terribly able to deal with pain.”
He shook his head at her question, he never really went out of Camelot, he never really went out of his home really. Aidan wasn’t one for, well, being in the world really. He liked his studies not going off gallivanting around Albion, finding bandits and random women. “No I’ve never been here before, you’re right: it is beautiful.” It was just shame he was enjoying it all with a head injury.

Aidan rolled his eyes at Arthur’s comment, “Improved?” He laughed and shook his head, “You can’t improve on perfection.” It was only really around Arthur that Aidan was able to behave like this. With anyone else he was constantly questioning himself, conscious that he was probably doing something wrong and making a fool out of himself and having everyone making a laughing stock of him – not that he was paranoid about this – but with Arthur he could spend his time being himself and tormenting the odd servant. They probably deserved it and he had his issues to work through so the servants were just going to have to bear the brunt.
The young man was in no doubt that he would win the wager, this is what he was good at after all, and it wouldn’t do to embarrass himself in front of Arthur and the knights who happened to be there and yes, not actually harming Morris (or at least not seriously anyway) would probably be a good thing. As much as Aidan liked to tease him he didn’t wish the man any proper harm. “A task that I would perform superbly.” He reassured Arthur before adding, “If I miss.”
Hearing Arthur’s comment and the small applause from the other knights he gave a bow that was probably more exaggerated than it needed to be but he was going to enjoy this moment. When he was stood upright again he nodded at Arthur’s words, “Of course.” he replied before complying and walking over to Morris. The servant didn’t look particularly happy about the situation he had found himself in, but then Aidan didn’t particularly care. After putting the apple in the man’s mouth as he was told, Aidan ran a hand through Morris’ hair and grinned at him. “Cheer up, anyone would think you weren’t enjoying yourself.” With that he walked back over to Arthur to watch him take his throw. “All yours, sire.”
