Alex caught the other's man's brief sentence and let his curiosity grow slightly. He wondered what dreams the man spoke of. Richard seemed like the sort to be ambitious, but Alex couldn't quite place what exactly the man seemed to be after. Then again, Alex wasn't one to over think things. In fact, Alex would leave well enough alone. If the subject wasn't brought up, he wouldn't pry and ask about it. He knew that not all people liked to talk about their personal lives with almost complete strangers. Alex might be talkative, but he didn't expect the same from others. It would be unfair of him to judge the other man based merely on the fact he wasn't extremely forthcoming with small details.
Alex felt a bit of amusement when he saw that his lack of surprise was in itself surprising. In all honesty, most people would be surprised, but Alex happened to work near nobility all the time and therefore had a bit of insight in that area. He even knew the crown prince, and the way you could always set nobility apart was in their posture and the way they carried themselves. Even an impoverished nobleman was still a nobleman. You can't change things like that so easily. In fact, Alex knew that one could give him all the money in the world, but he would still carry himself like an overconfident kitchen boy. It was just in their natures.
"No, it has been brought to my attention that one cannot consume personality. However, I happen to know a bakery where I can charm the woman running it into giving up some lunch if you would like to join me." Alex said with an easy smile. He happened to know his mother was watching the shop today, and as he thought about it he found he was indeed hungry. Plus, his mother was always telling him he should eat more. She also had a thing for feeding people who were hungry, it made her quite popular among travelers and the neighborhood children.

Alex was never one to think about taking advantage of people. Perhaps naive to a fault, he liked to look for the good in people. It wasn't that he wasn't smart, because he could be quite intelligent, but he tended to overlook people's flaws. He was very much of the idea that people could change. Alex figured that the ability to see good in people and be friendly was one that helped him make the world a better place in his own small way.
When the other man spoke Alex smiled. A dream was indeed a good thing to have. Gave someone focus. Alex's dream might be a small one, but it was something he truly loved to do, and that was good enough for him. The other man's apparent interest on the subject also put Alex more at ease for the moment. "Yeah, losing sight of a dream would not be good at all. Especially when dreams are forgotten all too easily." Alex said in a lighthearted manner. He liked the word play and the connection between life's goals and the fading memories from sleep. That they were called the same thing had always amused him. You can dream of what you want to accomplish, but in dreams you might also find nightmares, and wasn't that also true of life?
Richard stepped in front of Alex and seemed to stall briefly with a laugh. Alex was naive, but all too used to the intricate ways of speech. He wondered if it was because he was being to prying or if the man didn't want to say too much. At the mention of a title not too long after, Alex was not surprised, and the explanation for his state was not surprising either. Although the duke's manner was quite interesting as far as nobles Alex had encountered. A bit more likable then he was used to. "Well I hope good fortune finds you again, friend. Although you seem rich in personality." Alex said with a chuckle at the other man's antics. The great sigh was one that evoked sympathy but was exaggerated enough that Alex all too easily recognized the over dramatized manner that he was known for at times. He smiled slightly and let his hands rest by his sides as he considered the duke in front of him.

When Gwen came forward Alex simply swept her up with a laugh. Now he could feel like all his family was complete. He picked her up and spun once still chuckling. The lightness in his mood was emphasized and he found himself chasing the slightly heavy memories of a darker time away to the small crevices of his mind where they belonged. All of Gwen's nervousness seemed to have disappeared and Alex was happy to see her smiling. He set her down after their hug and took a step back so he could look at her.
"And I have missed you. It seems certain matters have kept us apart these last two weeks. But never fear, time is only a simple obstacle to be conquered." Alex said. He found himself easily lulled back into his chatter now that they could speak again. It had been hard to not talk with someone he was so close to when Morgana had risen to power. He had known it was too dangerous for both of them. He was not subtle in his dislike for the fake queen and he did not wish for Gwen to be discovered as also against Morgana. Many had maybe doubted Gwen's intentions, but Alex had known about her and Arthur and had defended her when given the chance.
"There was no need to be nervous." Alex thought he knew why she might be nervous. It would be too easy to assume he had avoided her because he had been a doubter. "I knew you were true. Anyone who looks at Arthur as you do could not be anything but. So smile and know that I would never doubt you." Alex said with a softer smile. He knew all to well what love like that was, and admired Gwen all the more for her patience in waiting for Arthur to return. If not for her many things could have ended differently.
"And you are here now which is what matters, yes?" Alex said with renewed energy. Gwen tended to have that effect on him. He could always feel his mood turn happier when he was around. It was easy to be friends with her and it had been a friendship that was strong from there very first meeting. Even through times where it seemed all odds were against them, their bond had not broken. Alex knew that as he was there for her, Gwen would always be there for him. Whether it was through dark times, or simply to give romantic advice to a very flustered Alex.
Alex knew that many had asked about his friendship to Gwen and had questioned his devotion to Brynn, but Alex had merely explained that while he loved them both, it was in a very different manner. Brynn was his first true love and Gwen was the sister of his heart. Both were highly placed in his heart but neither would have to ever fear the other. Alex was also aware that Gwen was irrevocably in love with Arthur and Alex would never break that up. In fact, when people asked about him and Gwen, Alex tended to simply laugh. Gwen was and would always be a part of him, even if it was romantically.

The recent events in Camelot had changed everyone. It was impossible for anyone to go back to how it was before and yet the future was one that people could look forward to. A shadow had past and the sun once again saw Camelot as the shining city it was. With the rebuilding occurring, it was only a matter of time before Camelot entered a new age of glory. Alex thought about this and chuckled as he waxed lyrical on the subject. It sounded a bit cliche in his head and would most likely sound worse out loud.
This could mark the change that had found Alex in particular. These days he found himself thinking before he spoke more often. He would still say what he meant, but he would at least run it through his head before it came out. Perhaps it was a sign of growing maturity, but it could also be a leftover remnant from a short period of time where the wrong words were your own death warrant. It had not been a good time for Alex who had never made much of a secret on his feelings about Morgana's regime. It was a time Alex didn't wish to speak of.
However, not all had been dark. Alex's family had come out fine. Being away from the castle had spared them much of the trouble Alex had run into and they had holed up in their bakery for the fighting. Not only that, but Alex had had something else to keep him going. If there had been any doubt Alex loved Brynn before, that was gone. Alex had had one burning fear in him from the first clash of swords that marked Morgana's rise to power. Even now he could recall the clench in his stomach and the itching need to hide Brynn away from the rest of the world. Alex had been at his worst when a stray arrow had found Brynn's shoulder.
Now, Alex felt more at ease and could breathe a whole lot easier. It helped that now a days everyone seemed ready to celebrate at any given time. Coming out of such a disaster had put everyone in moods that rivaled Alex's exuberance. In fact, since Arthur's triumphant return, there had been endless festivities. It seemed that whenever the city was working together to rebuild it was throwing a party. The overall atmosphere of joy and community reminded Alex of why he loved this city so much.
Speaking of triumphant returns. Arthur and his knights were the subject of almost every conversation. Not only were they non-nobles, but they were now the object of everyone's admiration and the sign for a new age. Now it was not uncommon to see a bit more go between the classes. Another huge breakthrough could be seen in the relationship of the crown prince and regent, and a woman Alex considered his sister. He had not seen her since Morgana's fall, but the relationship was common knowledge now. This in and of itself was a huge change. It was still strange for Alex to hear of it from stranger's when he had been among the few to know about it when it was still a secret.
Speaking of Gwen, Alex wished he could find the time to seek her out. It had been hard to get away from everything long enough to find her. Not to mention that she was smack dab in the middle of everything now. It made Alex glad to know she was finally being treated like the lady she was. It was nice to see someone who truly deserved a happy ending get one. Alex could think of no one better to be Camelot's future queen. And there was no doubt Alex would tease her endlessly even when the crown sat atop her head.
Alex currently thought about all of this as he set dishes aside carefully, with a casual ease that spoke of long practice. The chef had promoted him no more then a week ago to a minor chef in training, but Alex still did the dishes now and then since he found the repetitive motions soothing. Much about him had changed recently, but Alex didn't ever think that he would ever find this minor task less comforting.
The soft voice behind him had him lower the plate he held before turning around. He gestured to the dishes still left to wash and reveled in the symmetry of this meeting and their first. As he had though before, it was nice to have something to return to. "I would never turn away such a beautiful lady. Although for the opportunity I believe a hug would be proper payment." Alex said with a grin that rivaled his old smiles. For his heart's sister he could manage a smile that outshone any. That much had not changed and never would.

The other man had stopped circling. Alex found himself able to once again face in one singular direction comfortably. It was a relief for his balance, but did nothing for the slight confusion at the stranger's antics. He was used to people watching him as he often drew attention, but at the moment he felt like an insect being carefully inspected before being stomped on. It was a bit off putting. Never the less, Alex hastily reminded himself that it was merely an overactive imagination that produced these thoughts and he should just take things in stride.
Alex was not made uncomfortable by the sudden weight of an arm around his shoulders. He was certainly not expecting it, but he was not someone who was overly sensitive about personal space. Alex was a very tactile person and was not unused to physical gestures. He merely accepted the arm and turned to give the other man a quizzical smile. Richard seemed friendly enough, but it weighed odd on Alex that there was no particular reason for the sudden goodwill from a practical stranger. However, Alex simply ignored that again to believe the other man was just very friendly.
Listening to the other's inquiries put Alex at ease. Talking he was used to. Given the opportunity Alex could chatter on about practically nothing. He grinned more confidently before answering. "Yeah. It's certainly not that difficult physically, if that's what you mean. I really just make sure things run smoothly for the chefs. Although, they let me help with some of the cooking sometimes. That's what I really want to do. Figure eventually the work pays off, right?" Alex said with a bit of wistfulness to his tone. Even talking about the possibility he could be an actual chef one day was a sure fire way to keep his good mood going. However, as he thought about his job a bit of curiosity leaked into his thoughts. "And you? I've never seen you around. If I had I would have definitely remembered." Alex didn't men to pry or sound nosy, but he was used to knowing everyone and he couldn't help but ask a few questions.

OOC - No problem. And we can set it sometime in season two. There isn't really a need to be overly specific.
The man's reaction set him aside from most of the nobility Alex had ever had a chance to interact with. Most were quite reserved with common folk and didn't bother to even nod their head. Alex had met a few who hadn't been that way such as the crown prince himself, but never before had one bowed. The enthusiasm was certainly something Alex could go along with. In fact it was an energy that made Alex a bit intrigued. It wasn't often he ran across someone with as much enjoyment for flair.
The quip about him needing service was let slide as Alex was unsure of how to take it. He couldn't quite tell whether he should be insulted or not. A strange feeling for Alex, who was normally good at making out the meaning behind most people's speech.
When the man's demeanor changed and the circling began, Alex was left a bit confused. He craned his head to keep Richard in view and ended up turning awkwardly like a puppy trying to chase the tail that keeps evading him. Alex was unused to someone being more then passively interested in him let alone seeming to want to know who he was after merely running into him. Alex felt a bit thrown for a loop and took a moment to respond.
"Not headed anywhere in particular actually. Just off work early. I work in the castle's kitchens and there wasn't much to be done today. Had something to do with more concentration on a petty theft if I heard correctly." Alex replied. He didn't feel the need to guard his words or lie. If anything Alex could be a bit too trusting of everybody he met. He also just didn't see why that information would be relevant or important to anyone else. That also combined with the fact that he adored his job and wasn't hesitant to share that fact.

OOC - Thread name is fine. I can never think of anything either. Any particular time this should take place?
Alex was in no hurry to get anywhere. For once he felt the ease of someone with no place they had to be. Really he could attribute that to the fact that he had gotten out of the kitchens rather early and was not expected home for quite a while. A free man, Alex let himself aimlessly wander about the city with his eyes on the sky above him. Perhaps it was not the best way to navigate, but Alex was not bothered much to observe where he was headed. Hands tucked into his pockets, he enjoyed the sun on his face. It was a nice day and Alex had left his sleeves rolled up as they had been as he worked. With an easy smile he let himself greet a few familiar faces as he walked.
Alex contemplated the reason he and some of the other staff had been let out early. Apparently someone had stolen some clothing and, since everyone was looking for the culprit, the chef had felt that a few servants could get away with some well deserved rest. There had been a lot of work the last few days and some of the staff had been a bit overworked as of late. It was days like these that made Alex appreciate what a good boss he happened to have. He also found that it was days like these that kept him in his constant good mood. That and the smile of a certain goose herding girl he happened to know. Just the thought of Brynn made Alex smile a bit wider.
As Alex entered a busier section of the city, he reluctantly pulled his eyes to the ground so he could maneuver around the other inhabitants. He let himself chatter out greetings to the people he knew and caught their amused glances as he strolled his way down the road. People around here were quite familiar with Alex and knew him as the loquacious young man who never seemed to stop for breath as he spoke whatever happened to come to mind at the moment. Most knew he worked in the castle, but it was through helping at his step-father's bakery that most of them had encountered Alex. With a friendly nature it was not difficult for Alex to meet people and he had an easy charm that made him well liked among those that didn't mind the constant stream of talk.
Alex found himself bouncing back a step and a half as something turned into him. Alex shook his head and reminded himself to pay more attention to what was in front of him and not the waving girls in the store to his left. Bringing his eyes to the man he had just run into, for it was indeed a man, Alex gave a sheepish grin before extending a hand. "Not to worry. My fault entirely. I'm Alexander, although it's really just Alex to everyone who isn't my mother." Alex said in a smooth sentence with hardly a breath between phrases. He let his other hand ruffle his hair slightly as he grinned wider at his new acquaintance. The man was certainly not someone Alex had seen around before and there was an air about him that suggested nobility. It was an aura Alex was familiar with after working in the castle a while. The clothes also stirred some vague memory, but Alex just ignored that to smile at the man while waiting for a response.

Caught watching her, Alex merely laughed it off. He shrugged sheepishly and let one of his hands tweak her nose. "Why would I not look at you like this?" He asked in a teasing manner. How he loved to pull these smiles from her. If he could, he would have her smiling all of the time. In fact, it would be his new job to make that happen. "A wild creature? Now isn't that an image. I suppose that would make you the damsel in distress then? Funny, I never figured you to be particularly helpless. Do you think I match up to one of your ferocious geese? For I do know they get the better of me nine times out of ten. What beast am I then if geese are my undoing?" He joked with her. Alex kept his hands on Brynn's waist after he had set her down and had only eyes for her now. He barely noticed the many others around them who seemingly were so used to these antics that they themselves payed no heed.
When she had let out an excited yell at the spin Alex had not been able to keep from laughing as well. He could see now that a few people had cleared a small space around them to avoid a collision. Alex noted this only so that he could prevent another mishap like the first time they had danced. Alex was content to soak up the joyous atmosphere and wondered at how he had found Brynn. He did not think any decision could have affected his life as much as going to that festival all the time ago. A simple choice to stay at home could have cost him all he saw right now. Alex would not give this up for all the wealth and stature in the world. Alex could not even imagine anything that could be of more value then the simple sound of Brynn laughing or the way the light hit her hair just so when she spun through the air. There were not even words to describe such things.
Alex could tell that Brynn had not been overly happy when the kitchens had called for five of her geese. Alex had refused to be a part of that part of the preparation stating that he could not do something that would upset her. Even as she joked, Alex knew that it was not far from her mind. "Perhaps then, I could make a royal decree that geese are sacred. Chicken makes an adequate substitute anyway. Plus, I have grown fond of your little flock. Far more then they have grown fond of me I'm afraid." Alex said with a small smirk. He could not count the number of times Brynn's geese had chased him from their mistress. Alex insisted that one day he would grow on them. No one could resist his charms for long. It had gotten to the point where he brought gifts for Brynn and also tidbits for the geese. Alex had thought himself so lucky that Brynn's parents had liked him only to find that they were not the ones he should have worried about. Then again, Alex could see why they were so protective. Alex himself would face anything for Brynn.
Alex was laughing at Brynn's last joke when he too heard their names spoken. His laugh caught in his throat as he noticed who it was and then doubled when he saw Brynn's expression. He knew that Brynn also knew the prince turned king but had never heard the full story. He himself smiled brightly at their new king. Catching onto the casual tone Alex relaxed and threw an arm around Brynn's shoulders as he turned to fully face the new monarch. "We were just talking about you! Then again it is your party so that's not much of a surprise. Brynn had the funniest idea about monarchs not two seconds ago. I'd elaborate, but I would hate to steal her thunder." Alex said. He grinned and couldn't help but tease Brynn again. The situation was just perfect since the king had walked in at just the right time.

Alex was still reeling from the events of the day. To know that they now had a new king and one who commanded the respect of the people like Arthur. It was almost as if reality had taken a vacation and dreams had been allowed to come into being. Alex could feel little else other then pride and joy that seemed to burst from his very seems. He still recalled the chef's look of amusement as he had stumbled over excuses before he was finally allowed to rush out of the kitchens and go find Brynn before the ceremony. Luckily the chef seemed to favor Alex a bit more these days. He even let him help more in the actual cooking department instead of washing dishes. With this and the coronation, Alex did not think anything could be more perfect. And then he saw Brynn by his side and once again marveled at how many times he could be proven wrong in one day. Although everyone seemed bright with joy, no one could compare to Brynn, of this he was sure. Then again he could be a bit biased on the subject. For once everything felt perfectly in line and Alex allowed himself to move beside Brynn and let her lead them both out to the courtyard.
The comparison between their first dance and now was not lost on Alex. Although, it was brighter outside and Alex was wearing a darker and more subtle red then he had on that night. Plainly dressed with a bright highlight of yellow, Alex could not even complain of the color. Perhaps he could do worse then red when now it reminded him of his first dance with the woman beside him. As he thought of colors he couldn't help but admire Brynn's dress. He had only seen peaks of it before this day, as his mother and Brynn's had shut the door in his face telling him that men were no use in that department anyway. Alex was glad of it, because now he could allow himself to be in awe of his luck at having this beauty on his arm. No noble woman in all her bright jewels could sway his gaze as they moved further into the courtyard.
Alex let himself laugh at all the people who swelled around them dancing and chatting with the energy of a wild fire. The mood was infectious and Alex could hardly let up smiling enough to say anything.Even Brynn who was usually very thoughtful and not overly outspoken seemed to buzz with the energy's hum. Alex heard her words and saw that his own thoughts on reality seemed to be shared. "Then dream my love, for this should never end!" He replied with a brief laugh as he spun her quickly before setting her down. "A few years older, and the finest king to ever grace this castle. Though not to worry my dear, when I am his age I shall rule over the kitchens and then you may be my queen of the geese." Alex joked. He knew that many people might be a bit shocked by their casual references, but Alex cared little for propriety.

"Well then it is lovely to meet you Lisa Kent." Alexander replied. He saw no reason to doubt her story and just smiled at his new aquaintence. Always ready to trust people, Alex was good at making friends quickly. The fact that she was the daughter of a knight meant she was higher in ranking as he had assumed. It didn't unsettle him in the slightest and he figured she was simply down to earth for a lady of rank.
"That's no issue. With practice one can toss anything around. I quite often enjoy tossing dishes around, although the chef isn't all to pleased with it." Alex said with a smile. He let himself fall to sit beside Lisa and he let an apple roll down his arm in a playfull manner. Alex could be the slightest bit of a showoff. At least it was all in good humor.
"My whole life really. Been working in the castle only a few years. My parents own a bakery in town." Alex responded openly. He was glad to just think of his mother and step-father. Alex also could see his little sister running rampant through the back rooms of said bakery. No doubt around this time she could be found driving her mother crazy.

Alex knew that he was good looking as far as others his age were concerned. He also knew that women looked at him. He was modest not blind. However, until Brynn he had never felt that anyone truly saw him. They saw his charm, his good humour, but they never bothered to find out who he was underneath that. The fact that Brynn could read him so well and seemed to care about his whole being was enough to leave Alex content for the rest of his days. There was no other for him and he could not even spare a glance for a pretty face anymore. All lowered eyelashes of girl's flirting were just reminders of how Brynn's own eyes lowered slightly when she was embarrassed. All fancy hats paled in comparrison to wreaths of flowers loosely based on a head of gold.
Alex listened to her words and did not move his eyes from her. He was settled and didn't feel the need to move away. He did have some concious part of him reminding him that they were not alone, but he was past caring at this point. He did find it adorable that Brynn seemed a bit embarrassed however. He even chuckled slightly and pulled away to give her mother his own sheepish grin. Parents seemed to have the unique ability to make you feel like a guilty child at any given moment. It was a skill that must come with the job description.
At the sound of his name from the intruder, Alex lowered his makeshift weapon slightly. He was almost glad he would not need it. Now that he assessed the situation he felt a bit silly holding a candlestick to challenge a man in full armour. He was pretty sure his limited expierience holding cutlery and household items wouldn't stand against a trained soldier with an extremely sharp sword.
Alex didn't speak but let out an audible sigh when he saw the face of the newcomer. He could recognize Brynn's father even under the dirt and armour. He smiled and let the candlestick drop to the side before stepping out of the way. As much as he was glad to see him, he knew two women who were even happier. He was content to let the family enjoy the reunion and was glad that they could stop worrying. Nothing made Alex happier then knowing that Brynn was happy and much safer.

((OOC: No problem. I've been a bit busy recently myself.))
Alex thanked his quick reflexes for the quick grab he made to keep from dropping the apples when he was startled out of his revelry. His smile came easily as he turned to face the newcomer. Her dress meant nobility, but he hadn't really ever been on the receiving end of notice from the nobles before. Unless he was working of course. However, that did nothing to shock his good mood away, and he held out an apple to the lady in question.
"An apple for the lady. I would of course be much obliged to show her how to toss them quite adequately." He said in an easy tone of voice. He figured he would be friendly and simply find out more about the strange noble. Anyone of the higher class who would approach him was odd enough, but she also seemed to be carrying some weight on her shoulders. If Alex was good at anything, it was helping people relax.
The questions didn't bother Alex in the slightest and he was glad to see she was an inquisitive type. Nothing he liked more then people who talked as much as he did. Not that that was even possible for the most part. "Alexander Michaelis at your service, oh delightful questioner. Whom might I have the pleasure of meeting? Does she have a name as well as a pretty face?" He asked with a slight bow. Ever the charmer, Alex never could get over his need to chatter endlessly. It was a miracle Brynn put up with him for so long. A miracle Alex was quite grateful for.

Alex wondered briefly what he would look like all decked out in armour for a tournament like the knights competed in. Alex had a sudden vision of himself falling over in the heavy metal and resembling a heap of pots from the kitchen. He could almost see the cook then scolding him for not cleaning himself up on time. The overall image was an intersting one. If by interesting one meant absolutely ludacris. However, he would do it in a heartbeat for Brynn. It was nothing to him, and he could compare it to the flowers he brought her or to the valiant efforts he continuously made to get days off from work when he knew Brynn would be off. Doing these things came second nature to him now and if he could make Brynn happy by dragging on heavy plates of metal and then attempting to ward of knights with swords, then by all means point him toward the nearest blacksmith.
Somehow Alex couldn't see Brynn ever hurting anyone, but the thought was nice. If anything Alex knew how viscious the geesecould be to percieved threats to Brynn. He had more then enough ripped sleeves to proove that fact one hundred times over. Of course this also brought up thoughts of what would happen if Alex ever lost Brynn to another. Somehow Alex figured they would want to aquire a taste tester just in case. Alex could be quite clumsy and who knew what herbs might just slip into a dish leaving the kitchen. Then again, even if she left him, Alex could never do anything to hurt Brynn. Perhaps he would just let himself grieve in quiet. Or a vow of silence perhaps? Every time he heard her repeat that she loved him, all his dark thoughts would vanish. He smiled at her and knew that he trusted her. He could not believe her capable of anything untoward and let his jealousy go without another hesitation. "There could never be another. And words could not begin to cover everything I love about you. It would be a crime to even attempt to capture those feelings." He replied simply. He could not even be bothered to be embarrassed that her mother was present.
The sounds reached Alex like an ill-timed arrow. He could not feel anythingother then shear panic the first moment and afterward it was replaced by a desperate need to protect Brynn and her mother. Leaping to his feet Alex grabbed the nearest thing that could be construed as a weapon. Sudden thoughts of the similarity between now and the incident with the moving skeleton were flickering past in his mind as he held the candlestick in front of him and stepped between the intruder who entered and Brynn and her mother. His mouth straightened to a line and he narrowed his eyes as he tensed for some kind of attack.

Alex figured the slight shake in his hands was the least of his worries at the moment. Although it lessened somewhat as Brynn seemed to relax. Alex could feel himself doing the same as he shifted back into the mood he had been in in their previous encounters. Even then he had felt the spark of something, but it hadn't been untill he had gotten home after their shared night of dancing that the strange rush of emotion had caught up with him. Three loaves of burnt bread the next day had prodded him into seeking advice, and now here he was. Alex was sure that the last two days of constant second guessing had done absolutely nothing to calm his nerves. It was not like him at all to think twice before speaking, but for Brynn he could do it.
"But of course! You seem to speak exceptionally well. Allow me to refrain from speaking over you. You have to say but a word and I will desist from too much chatter." He replied. Immediately he cursed himself for speaking too much. How had he not realized he was letting his voice run away with him. At this rate his voice could be a world famous sprinter at the rate he was going. Brynn seemed to be less nervous looking and it did wonders for Alex's composure. It was hard to worry about everything when he was observing her smile. In fact it was hard to do much else when she smiled. It was if the very air he breathed stilled and stopped his thoughts in their tracks. For a moment he was silent, and didn't feel the need to blurt out whatever came to mind.
With Alex observing her, it wasn't hard to catch the blush. It left Alex in a curious state as to whether it was due to embarrassment or whether she had thought something else. Alex prayed for a moment that it was because some miracle occurred and she returned his sentiments. He almost missed her words but caught them at the last second. He laughed outright as she spoke. Her wit was surprising as she didn't talk nearly as much as Alex did. He found himself completely charmed. "Then they are not worth the word, for what could harm such delicate hands as these." Alex said with a smile that was gentle and calmer then his easy grins of before. With a finger and a hand that shook no longer he brushed a small cut on Brynn's hand. He didn't linger long and withdrew his limb with a blush to rival her's.
Her second comments had Alex even more enthralled if it were possible. His thoughts echoed her words as she spoke. He would take her dancing every night if he could. They could dance right off through the sunset and then to the sun's rise the next day. Then again their feet might start to hurt so they could most likely take a few breaks. Not to mention they might get hungry, so perhaps a late dinner... "Then I shall have to eagerly await the next festival, no? I do hope you will save me a dance." Or let me steal you for the whole night. Alex didn't add the last part, and was quite glad it didn't slip out anyway. For a moment the idea of someone else dancing with Brynn annoyed Alex slightly. He would not like that at all. Especially those shady knights. The ones that before Brynn had been seen by Alex as honest but who now made him slightly suspicious for no good reason.
Alex hung on her every word and sigh. Her response had him quiet for a good moment as he tried his best to comprehend what she was saying. She didn't look at him directly but Alex found that he couldn't quite look at her either. However, when her final sentence came out, Alex let his eyes turn to hers. Had she just replied in the way he thought she had. Alex shifted on his feet and thought of what to say before carefully responding. "Perhaps it does... If you aren't, uh, busy tonight, I wondered if perhaps you would like to get some food and perhaps take a walk... with me."

What if he was talking too much? Alex couldn't shake the feeling that any moment he would say something just a bit too strange or would frighten her away. Frankly he was surprised Brynn even stayed this long. It wasn't that Alex thought girls didn't like him, he had always been a bit of a charmer, he just had never worried if one liked him as much as he did now. There had been a few girls in the past who had showed interest, but he had never really liked one quite this much. It was hard to see why people liked you so much when you were convinced every other word you said must come out like mush. Overall, Alex had to take a breath in order to control his heartbeat as he thought of what to say next. All he had to do was play it cool in a 'I would love to take you out some time' way, and not a 'I'm a tad crazy for you and don't know what I'm doing' way. If he tried that method perhaps he wouldn't end up looking ridiculous.
Her reaction to his words had him all the more self-conscious. Was she stuttering slightly because she was scared or surprised? What if he had blown it already? Alex merely smiled as his eyes widened a bit in panic. She also seemed to be as clueless as he was as she tried to think of something to say. Alex prayed in his mind it was because she was also nervous and liked him as well and not because she was thinking of an escape route. "You don't have to say anything. I would hate for you to feel like I'm putting you on the spot in any way." He hastily said as if to make amends. He already felt like any moment he would sink to the floor and give up this folly. In fact, Alex would give about anything for the ground to open up and swallow him whole. Although the taste of his panic might not go down so well with the dirt. It would be just his luck if it spit him right back out. If Brynn was as flustered as she looked and Alex continued to lose himself in his words, this conversation would go no where and some servant would find them a half an hour later stammering like fools.
She liked the flowers. Alex did a small flip in his mind and patted himself on the back for the wonderful idea. He also conveniently forgot that it was in fact not his idea, but had been a suggestion from a friend. All the more, Alex found his voice returning to him as the small bit of confidence he had left grew a bit brighter. Perhaps he was not a lost cause after all. All he had to do was do what he did best. Talk. If he didn't freak out any more he should be fine. He continued to repeat this inner mantra to himself as he smiled brightly and let his shoulders relax a bit. "Flowers can but compare to your loveliness on any given day, no?" He said. He congratulated himself on the nicely worked out compliment. Hopefully it would sound flattering but not like he had rehearsed it. Not that Alex ever rehearsed what he would say. Too often the rehearsal of such things were absolutely dreadful and he ended up saying something entirely different as evidenced by this very statement. Alex was indeed glad he had decided on this comment as opposed to the words he had been working on before Brynn had arrived. If anything Alex would never say anything he didn't mean completely, and so Alex decided he would just be honest with her.
Her words after thanking him were a bit out of the blue and Alex had to falter for a moment to decide how to respond. "Uh, I guess it has a bit. Although working in the kitchens is actually a bit easier when we aren't in the middle of festivities." He responded with a slightly confused look on his face. Was she perhaps mad that he hadn't visited her until now? He inwardly pondered what the proper etiquette was on visiting girls you met at festivals and wanted to ask out. Perhaps he should have come a bit sooner. r perhaps he read too much into the statement. Either way if he didn't say something now he figured he would chicken out. "I came to see you because I like you. And at first I was a bit worried I would make a fool of myself, but I've already seemed to have done that bit." Alex said with a sheepish grin crossing his face. He felt all of five years old as he clasped his hands in front of him, and waited for some kind of reply.

As Alex pondered his situation, he slowly became aware of noises from behind him in the direction of the meadows. He turned his head to see just the person he was waiting for. Knowing it was his absolute last chance to flee, Alex took hold of the gate with his left hand and steadied himself. His stomach started to free fall as he turned more so that he could get an unobstructed view of Brynn as she seemed to chat with her geese. He found the whole thing extremely endearing s it seemed she was scolding the geese. It almost reminded Alex of when someone would talk to young and unruly children. The geese of course did a remarkable impression of young and unruly children. They even had the chatter dead on. Yet Brynn seemed to have the patience of the day itself and Alex couldn't help but admire her all the more. As she got closer, Alex realized he was staring and hastily stood up and picked up the flowers, which were a few petals short from his worrying earlier. There wasn't anything Alex could do about it at the moment so they remained clutched at his side as Alex valiantly tried to think of something to say when Brynn got close enough. He was failing quite miserably when she spoke first. Alex thought he might thank the heavens at that very moment, but found his voice running away with him already.
"The citadel could not keep me in on a day like this." He said with a small flourish with his unoccupied hand. The other had the flowers half hidden behind his back. His smile almost faltered when he realized she would not know he came out to see her and would assume he was simply enjoying the day. "But I also wanted to see you!" He amended quickly. He then felt like kicking himself for sounding so utterly silly and crazy. Now she would think he was overeager or would be annoyed by him being so presumptuous to meet her when she very well may not want to see him right now.
Alex tried to think of some way to start up a conversation so he could smoothly bring up what he really wanted to say, but instead found himself looking at the wreath in her hair or the way her eyelashes fluttered ever so slightly when she blinked... He stuck out his flower clutching hand to stop himself from just staring. "These are for you. I didn't steal them." He spoke quickly. This was slowly turning into the disaster h had foreseen and gave himself credit for at least saying he hadn't in fact stolen the flowers. Not that he had really, more like borrow them with no intention of ever giving them back. Which was completely different, he told himself in his head.
Alex tried to keep up with his own thoughts as they whirled through his head, but he found it more difficult by the second. With her not a few feet away and walking toward him it was almost impossible to think of anything but how much he wanted to reach out and touch her, or simply find some way to convey how he felt without sounding like an idiot. At the moment, Alex wasn't sure if he would have been better off running. He would consider running even at this point, but his feet were glued to the ground as if someone had nailed them there. If anything, Alex found the only thing he could in fact control was his smile. Although even that grew quite large an threatened to overwhelm his face. He blamed the nice day and Brynn talking to him which created a deadly combination for Alex. This in turn made him wonder if she could tell the chaos that had his mind ensnared or whether his attempt to look normal was working. However, the mystery of whether his self-control was evident was not his most pressing of concerns at the moment.
Alex wondered if she would find it weird if he told her she looked like a wind nymph. He also wondered why that was the first thing that popped into his head.

(Any specific time range this takes place? Just want to make sure before I mention anything that may or may not have happened yet.)
Alex figured his punishment could have been much worse. Although he still debated whether or not it was fair to punish hims for something that was out of his control such as the weather. He honestly did not think he could be blamed for a sudden rain shower that happened to soak the laundry his mother had asked him to take down later that day. However, upon hearing a short trip to the woods was all it would take to reenter her good graces, Alex figured it wasn't worth the long winded talk. So that is why instead of whiling away some time thinking up new ways to talk circles around the chef in the kitchens, Alex found himself looking for the hunter his step-father had needed to see. His step-father had sent him with goods to trade in return for meat that could be used around the bakery. Alex found himself grateful it wasn't that much to carry. He was used to carrying heavy loads from working in the castle kitchens, but he wasn't much in the mood to work today. That was why he had put off taking in the clothes to begin with. However, now with the sun out the day was turning out to be quite nice. Alex even found himself whistling as he headed toward his destination.
As Alex got closer, he realized he was unsure of what type of person to expect. His step-father had only said a hunter. With no specifics, Alex just hoped not many people were out and about in this particular area. It would be quite embarrassing indeed to go about introducing yourself unnecessarily. Although there had to be something different about whomever he was supposed to be looking for. Otherwise they could meet in the city like they did with most of the people who supplied the bakery with the goods necessary for them to run. Alex sincerely hoped the hunter had all of their limbs. Otherwise he was sure to stare and it would most likely be awkward for everyone involved. Whatever it was, Alex just knew he would end up chattering on as was his usual disposition. He hoped the hunter wouldn't mind. He was hate to ruin a perfectly good business transaction.
He saw the woman from a short distance away as he got near the top of a hill leading up to the tree line of the woods. He might have seen her earlier if she hadn't been sitting with a dog at her side. Her clothes easily marked her for a huntress and Alex let it dawn on him that this could possibly be who he was looking for. He waved cheerfully and payed n mind to the fact that he must look like an overgrown child. People were always telling him he still had a very boyish look to him. That and his good nature had people guess his age younger then his nineteen years.
"Hey, You the hunter?" Alex called as he neared. He let his stride carry him closer as he casually let the bag he had over his should swing down so it was in front of him. His sleeves were rolled up and the rough fabric of the bag scratched lightly against his skin as he tilted his head to take in the stranger. He hardly waited to hear a response before he spoke again. "Sorry my step-father couldn't come. I'm Alex, from the bakery. You are the hunter I'm supposed to meet, right? If your not then I'm real sorry for the inconvenience, and if you are then I have the goods right here."

(Time: Just after the five day festivities)
Perhaps it was the way Alex paced back and forth in front of the meadows gate that had the few passerby give him odd looks. It also might have been the fact that as he walked he was gesturing with his hands, one of which held a bunch of flowers. He feet led him past the same gate a few times before he checked the sun with a sigh. Any minute now Brynn would be coming back with her flock of geese and Alex would have no more time to worry over what he was going to say. Whomever had said courting a girl was easy was sadly mislead. Even if Alex managed to not turn tail and run, he was unsure he would be able to put together a string of coherent sentences. His sleeves were rolled up from working earlier and he was pretty sure the flowers he had would wilt a bit if he kept gesturing so wildly with them so he sank down to sit on the small fence. Placing the flowers down next to him, Alex let his head sink into his hands. A sigh escaped him as he tried to get his jumbled thoughts in order. He could do this, he just needed to stay calm and not say anything stupid.
Lifting himself up again he stood as straight as he could and again tried to practice what to say. This time he was convinced he would not utter the phrase, 'I stole these flowers for you'. Not only would she not be impressed, but he was pretty sure he could get in trouble for that. Why did romance always get one into trouble usually avoided. Was there a rule somewhere that said that love had to hand in hand with disaster? For once Alex wished the world would be content to have an uneventful and peaceful love story. Alex started to speak again. "Brynn, I know this is a bit fast and all, but I think of you all the time and... I mean It isn't like I'm obsessed or anything but- And I think it's because I love you... Which I do in a completely non creepy and crazy way!" Alex said before sitting again on the bench. Was it too late for him to take a vow of silence. For the first time in his life Alex was pretty sure that not speaking at all might be the best option.
Resting his chin in one hand, Alex let his feet trace some random patterns in the dirt. He again reviewed his thoughts carefully. What was the best way to tell someone that they have become your absolute world in the last week? Alex didn't think he had a snowball's chance in hell of this going smoothly, but at least he was trying. Maybe you got bonus points for courage.

"If I did win a tournament, it would be in your name." Alex said with another quick smile. He could imagine such an event. Banners flying and horns announcing as the contestents entered the arena. Oh the laughter that would ensue. No clashing of weapons, but only of words. A tournament that would never end in bloodshed, and would not be violent. Alex wished such tournaments were allowed as opposed to men fighting as if it were good. Alex did not see what good could come of weapons and agression. Perhaps it was merely Alex's nature to be against conflict. Alex was unnerved with how close actual fighting was at the moment. Whether it was for glory or survival Alex always had a bitter taste in his mouth about it. Perhaps it was foolish indeed to wish for a world where words replaced steel. At least words never killed anyone.
Alex touched Brynn's cheek softly as she spoke. Her words were more comfoting then she could know. Alex would always be content to merely listen to her. Perhaps that was why his few moments of quiet were always when she was around. He also felt more happiness then he could describe knowing that they were so open with each other. Alex had never been a secretive person, but he hadn't always shared every feeling with others. He was glad to know there was someone he could always trust so completely with his innermost thoughts. "That I may see into your soul is a complement greater then any I could possibly recieve. Know that anything you ever desire, you may ask of me. And know I shall never hide anything from you." He spoke quietly as he moved his hand from her face to touch her own hand. He looked at the hands and then back up at her face.
Brynn's mother spoke and Alex was unsure of how to respond. On one hand he did not want to leave the woman who he was so fond of and who had accepted him as family, but on the other hand he knew too well how she felt. How could he deny her the right to wait for the one she loved, when he knew he would do the same a thousand times over. If it were Brynn he would be as unmovable as a boulder. "I will respect your wishes." Alex said seriously. Alex was a man of his word and would follow through on anything he said. A sudden rush of admiration for the strong woman found its way into Alex and he let himself give her a nod. He would not be happy to leave Brynn's mother, but he would not let anything happen to Brynn either. He saw that Brynn could not speak and let his fingers lace through hers to give her any comfort he could.

(Time: Season 2, Around the end of the five day festivities)
If there was one thing Alex knew for sure it was that if one was wandering through the woods for an hour and not making any progress, the term was 'lost'. Alex could no longer continue to tell himself he was merely taking a short cut. The sun was shining through the trees and making patterns around his feet and the angle of the shadows clearly told him it was getting to be midday. Alex felt his stomach growl and uncomfortably realized he had missed lunch by now. Having left his house right after breakfast, Alex had convinced himself he would go out into the woods for no longer then an hour or two so that he could find the perfect flowers for Brynn. Four hours later and Alex was seriously beginning to rethink his actions. Not only was he not very familiar with the woods that surrounded Camelot, but he had also brought nothing with him apart from a small pocket knife. For once Alex found his good mood waning slightly.
Alex ran his hands through his hair with a sigh and looked around for a moment or two before he kicked a tree half-heartedly. Not only was he lost, but he had found no flowers that even came close to what he was looking for. Gwen had told him that girls liked flowers, but that they also liked thoughtfulness. What was more thoughtful then going out and finding the perfect flowers yourself? Alex had failed to realize that this was a lot harder then previously expected. Truth be told, Alex was so busy thinking and worrying about what he would say to Brynn, that he hadn't even looked where he was walking. At this rate he could be anywhere. These thoughts hit him and he grumbled to himself about trees all looking the same.
Alex had spent his whole life in town and then working in the castle. He had never been a real woodsy person and didn't know much about finding his way places without explicit instructions. He vaguely remembered something about moss growing on one side of trees, and he also knew the little rhymes from when he was little, but those had also faded with time. He ran them through his mind briefly. "Leaves of three... are good to eat?" Or something along those lines. He was sure it would all work out in the end.
Deciding that whatever he did he would remain lost, Alex spun in a circle with his arm out. He figured he would count to ten and then stop. Whichever way he pointed he would walk until he found his way home or ran into somebody. The idea was completely flawless. Or at least it didn't include him staying in one place. If anything at least Alex was being proactive.
