Arthur had successful managed to sneak out of the castle. He told a few guards that he was going on a hunting trip, and luckily, they complied with his insistence that he would go alone. Not that they could do too much about it. And his father could not object because he was . . . well, he had to respect Arthur's desire to get out of the castle for a little while; considering recent events. He had inspected himself in the mirror before leaving, wanting to look presentable -- as always -- for tonight would prove to be an interesting one indeed. Dinner with Guinevère . . . but also Merlin. He had never been alone, with the two of them, with Merlin being conscious of his affections for her. He would torture his man servant if he made even one joke or sarcastic remark.
When he was finally ready, and felt he could leave without being followed, he went to the stable, got his horse, and rode out into the woods. . . sort of. He tied horse up in a place that would be easy to find, and then returned to Camelot on foot. He pulled up his hood on his cloak, to conceal his face and thus prevent others from recognizing him. What would they say about the prince skulking about in the city at this time.
The darkness was his friend in this case and managed to arrive at Guinevère's with no suspicion. He lightly knocked on the door, keeping his head low and his hood up. At least until he was inside.

Would he really come?
Guinevère had spent the better part of the day, serving Morgana, and the better part of her free time cleaning her small house. Everything had to be perfect and for two reasons. One, was for Merlin. He had really saved the day this time for he had not only warned everyone that the queen was a troll but helped break the cruse she held over the king. Thus he saved the king, the kingdom and Arthur all in one swift move. So tonight was in his honor.
Would he really come?
The other reason was because Guinevère had asked Arthur to come and join them. After a small about of pleading he had agreed to try. She hoped he would join them; though she had warned him Merlin was NOT his servant tonight. There would be no fetch this, and do that for Merlin tonight. Guinevère was sitting the table for three when she heard the faint knock at her door. Merlin had a bad habit was just walking right into room, she she thought---hoped it was the prince.
Had he really came?
She hurried tot he door and pulled it open, so he could slip in and then she shut it once he was in. "You came." She stated the obvious, but with a very pleased and excited tone in her voice. It was as if he had given her diamonds or gold, but he had only given her himself for the night. "I had feared you might not be able to slip away."

who cares if you disagree you are not me who made you king of anything
Merlin was edgy about this.
Gwen was a sweet woman and she posed no threat to his sanity, so when she had invited him to dinner, he had said yes right off, but then she had gone and ruined the entire prospect of eating a decent meal by inviting his prat of a master. Still, Merlin felt it was rude to back out, whether or not Arthur thanked him for his absence, which was an area of his mind Merlin preferred not to think about, thank you very much. Grumbling, Merlin dusted off his clothes after cleaning the prince’s chambers and headed out, careful to take the long way out of the castle to avoid Gauis asking the hated question of, “and just where do you think you’re going at this hour of the night?”
True to form, Merlin reached for the door handle, but inside his hand scrabbled against the wood of Gwen’s house as he collided painfully with Arthur. He made a muffled sound of annoyance before being tossed back by Arthur’s weight and his own lack of any mass whatsoever. Now splayed clumsily on the ground behind Arthur in front of Gwen’s house, he only had time to look up his master with a, “please don’t kill me” expression.
Was this going to give her strange ideas or what…

Seeing Gwen's evident excitement over his ability to come, made everything worth it. Seeing her smile, which was not a rarity yet every time he did see it, it became more and more beautiful. He was about to respond and with impeccable timing as always, Merlin collided right into him. Arthur moved a bit by the sudden unexpected impact, but was still grounded. The same could not be said about Merlin. He was on the ground, and unfortunately, he was conscious. Arthur rolled his eyes at his clumsy man servant, and with that pitiful look in his face.
Arthur offered his hand to help, pulling him up with one quick motion. "You're lucky I wasn't wearing my armor," he told him. That would have been all the more painful. But tonight, he was dressed in regular clothing, and was about to share a meal with the woman he loved, and his closest friend -- though he always had trouble phrasing such kind words when it came to his servant. When Merlin was inside the house, Arthur closed the door behind him and just stood there. He felt awkward, but he was trying not to be. This was just such an unusual dinner. Hopefully, it would go smoothly and with minimal discomfort.

Gwen gave a soft surprised gasp when Merlin fell back after crashing into Arthur. She moved so she could see around the prince to Merlin. "Are you ok?" She asked, as Arthur helped him up, he seemed ok and she hoped things went better for the rest of the night. She brushed some dirt off his arm and shut the door behind him. Tonight was about thanking Merlin and what happened? He was already getting injured!
She did not say anything, when Arthur told Merlin he was lucky, and was glad when Arthur helped him up. "Sit down, Merlin, your to do no work in my home tonight." She told him, "Tonight I have fixed your favorite!!" Or so she hoped, she was asked around to see what he seemed to enjoy more. She had such high hoped that tonight would be wonderful! You could see it on her face, the excitement and the joy.

Merlin balked, waiting for Arthur to deliver him a painful blow to Merlin's head with the tip of his little finger, but never came. He had been standing there, flinching away from the prince, eyes squeezed shut and waiting for the worst, per the usual, but it never came. Instead, he looked up at the prince, to merely find that he was...helping him up?!
He stared at Arthur, wide-eyed, his mouth slightly open. He looked stupid, of course, he was he too busy wondering exactly how much ale Arthur had downed before waltzing down to Gwen's that he had forgotten himself to help his manservant up.
"Who are you and what have you done with Arthur Pendragon?" Merlin said, his voice filled with mock-wonder. But there was hardly time, when Guinevère came out and asked him if he was okay. Nodding, Merlin prepared stayed behind Arthur, even if they were to be viewed as something like "equals" in Guinevère's house.
"My favorite?" He repeated, flashing his friend a grin. He hardly knew how to react, so he pinched himself, ruling out the world's best dream.
Nope, he was wide awake.

Arthur glared at Merlin. He was using all his strength not to insult him or throw a criticism his way. He would do it out of respect for Gwen for they were guests in her home and the last time he had been a guest here . . . well, he had not exactly been the most gracious one. "Merlin, shut--" It was practically like a reflex for Arthur to tell Merlin to shut up, but this time, he managed to catch himself. However, if Merlin took advantage of his inability to insult him then Arthur would over compensate for it later, and make the man servant suffer. As if he did not already do that enough.
"-- the door behind you." Gwen had done so though. Oh well. It was still a save before he let any more slip out. "What exactly is his favorite?" Arthur asked, almost scared to hear the answer. "I believe his favorite is rat stew. But I am certain you will not be serving that tonight." He was kidding of course . . . sort of. It was his more subtle, light hearted, joking way of mocking Merlin. Sometimes, he made it too easy . . . especially when he stood there pinching himself. He wanted to demand he do something, but again, held his tongue in Gwen's presence, honoring her request. "Would you like any help with anything Guinevère?" He asked. He could make a good impression if he wanted to. Of course, in the end, he would probably make Merlin do it for him anyway.

Gwen knew that this held the possibility to go all wrong, but she had high hopes that everything would end up going smoothly. Not only smoothly, but wonderfully. Arthur was trying to be nice, and Merlin seemed to be pleased with this. So far that was enough, and she could not be more pleased. "No, I will be doing everything tonight. You two are guest in my home, so please sit and I will have everything ready in just a moment." She promised.
She had heard, but did not understand the rat strew tease. Gwen thought about asking what they meant but after living so long around knights and other men she knew some jokes were best not explained to girls. She looked over, and slightly up at Merlin's tall form; "I asked around and tied to see what might be your favorite; I was told that ham and bread usually makes your day. So I have plenty of both along with a strew." She watched his face to see if she had gotten it right; hoping she had. This was meant to be the perfect meal.
