A calming breeze lifted the light auburn hair of the young woman away from her face. The beautiful blue of her eyes catching the last rays of the sun yet she was hesitant to leave her haven. A small glade in which she had been escaping too since she was but a sixteen year old girl. two years had passed since then and no longer was it a young girl who sat on the rotting log but a beautiful woman. A soft gentle smile playing on her lips as she lifted her face to catch the final golden rays of sun. Making her exotic and very much different tan stand out against the pure white of her dress. Her eyes slowly closed before a soft sigh passed her lips. She had a job to do and she loathed to leave the special haven that was her only way to feel peace in this time. Her silver grey mare grazed on a small patch of clover. The sound of a gentle stream that she knew to be a few feet behind her calmed her fraying nerves even more.
Mary-Jane was filled with a sense of calm as she thought of her friend who would be awaiting her visit this night. No one would believe that the beautiful young woman was attached to a sorceress. Nor would anyone know that her dearest friend was even that. People had a respect for Vesper for she was a medicine woman. A woman who knew her way around the plants of this earth and how it worked. Mare always found herself wondering what would have happened had Vesper been around when her mother had been sick. If she had lived and maybe her life would have turned out differently. Maybe her mother would have loved her and she wouldn't feel the creeping lonliness as she did just below the surface of her smiles.
A gentle humming began low in her throat before she began to sing. A song of love and grace. Of she wished to be free to love and to be loved in return. She sang her true feelings to the wind as she hopped down off of the decaying log and began to twist and turn adding a dance to her song. It seemed like the world around her just faded away as she let her melodic and beautiful voice carry onto the wind un-hindered by any thoughts that she was not worthy to be loved as her song made out to be.
"So here I go, takin' the curve, but I know that I'm never alone. I think of you, and how you never let me go. I feel connected, protected, it's like you're standing right with me all the time. You hear me, you're near me, and everything else is gonna be alright. 'Cause nothing can break this, nothing can break this, nothing can break this tie. Connected... oooooh connected inside-"
Mary-Jane's eyes snapped open as she turned at the sound of a twig snapping and her hand rushed to her mouth as she gasped in surprise her eyes widening in fear searching to find what had caused the noise. At first she thought that it was only her horse but something deep inside of her told her that it wasn't. She took a step back and ended up tripping over the end of her dress. The silver grey mare's ears pricked forward as Mare fought to contain her fear. She wasn't used to people coming around here and it brought her mind back to that dreadful night where everything in her life had changed. She looked up at the sky to note that it was now fully dark. How long had she been singing and dancing? How had so much time elapsed? All these thoughts and much more where running threw the young woman's mind.

The night was rather calm, Brandeles patrols with his longbow around the same route, as usual duty as a ranger. Woods and animals are rangers' friends and allies, as they provide assistance to them for against their enemies. "Rangers of Balor Woods" been named by common townsfolk around Camelot, known for their marksmanship of swiftness and silent moving in the forests. Once, Brandeles and ten of his fellow rangers skirmished hundreds of bandits in their hideout, it becomes successful as the rangers rain down their arrows from the skies to the bandits.
Somehow, Brandeles admits that war isn't his liking, but he will do anything in order to protect the town-folks and his kingdom, Camelot. Brandeles also sometime mistaken by others as his brother Alandres, who is more daring, friendly, sociable and outgoing than him. Speaking of his elder brother, Brandeles slightly have his chance to talk to him because, he already becomes King Uther's knight while Brandeles busy with his duty as captain of rangers, planning tactics to overcome their enemies and trained new rangers.
Suddenly, Brandeles saw a dire wolf not far from him and guards himself with his bow. The wolf seems to be trying to attack someone else and Brandeles saw a young maiden and her mare were threatened. With swift and quick speed, Brandeles quickly went towards the wolf and face it in it's front. The dire wolf growls fiercely at the ranger but Brandeles, raises his palm and stares at the wolf's eyes.
Slowly approaches the wolf, Brandeles manage to touches the wolf's head and pats on it, later then the wolf becomes tamed and wags it's tail. As he gets up, Brandeles points his finger at the woods, ordered the wolf to get back to it's place of nature. It obeys and went into the woods, disappeared in his sight. "You shouldn't be here around the woods during this late night, miss. There's savage creatures that lurked around here." The ranger turns his attention to the maiden and her mare, cross his arms onto his chest.

Mary-Jane's eyes darted looking to try to find what was now making that noise. It was growling which meant that it was an animal and not some human. The tension in her shoulders relaxed before her fear returned as she spotted a wolf at the edge of the clearing. A small gasp escaped the young maiden's lips as she started to scoot backwards. The silver grey mare moved so that she stood beside Mary-Jane. Mare had no doubt that her horsey friend would do anything she could to protect the young beautiful woman. But before she could react or jump out of the way of the wolf a man had stepped in front of it. Mary-Jane's eyes widened as she watched the man seem to tame the wolf. For some very odd reason she was fascinated by this. She couldn't seem to make herself look away. Yet her eyes wheren't on the wolf but the man charming the wolf. She had never seen anything like it and she could't help but be drawn to the way he calmed the wolf and then sent it back into the woods.
The woman usually so very terrified of all things male didn't feel that fear now. Not after she had seen the way the man had been so gentle with the wolf. He must be something very special for others would have just killed the wolf. Mare was never this calm in the presence of a man but she couldn't seem to find her fear. It was as if it had vanished into thin air. But then he spoke it was a chastizing voice. As if she where a child and needed to be corrected. For the first time in her life Mary-Jane was at a loss for words. She didn't know how to react to him. It would have been so very simple had she not watched him with the wolf but she had. And now she felt as drawn to him as the wolf had. A strange thing was at work here yet she didn't quite care about that. All she knew was that she wanted to know his name.
Mare managed to get herself up from the ground in one graceful motion. She wasn't quite sure if the man could see her embarresed blush in the dieing light of the sun. Mary-Jane brushed a light auburn lock from her beautifully tanned face. Her bright sapphire blue reflecting the last rays of light back at the man who had saved her from the wolf. A soft giggle played low in her throat as his words registered to her. She placed a hand on her hip before she cocked her head to the side before giving a gentle smile. "Thank you my lord. I am Mary-Jane Leofric." She said softly her voice light and melodic yet still loud enough for him to hear her what with his still being a few feet away.

At least the maiden and her mare is safe from harm, the ranger captain pulls down his hood off and the wind gently blows his light brown hair and eyes look upon the maiden, with his smile. "I'm just a mere ranger who lingers in the shadow of the forest, lady Leofric. There is no necessary to call "my lord", I'm Brandeles, captain of rangers from the woods of Balor." Brandeles speaks politely to the maiden.
Of course he's a ranger, but Brandeles also from noble Silverwood family who served under King Uther as a group of knights. Oddly, only Brandeles himself choose his path and lived his life as a ranger, protector of the woods and guardians of creatures. The duty as a ranger also protect caravans and travelers who travel in the forest either from bandits or creatures, it is their creed to protect those who are lost in the woods. Brandeles wouldn't tell the maiden his surname for keeping his identity as a nobleman, otherwise the maiden maybe questions him why he lived his life as a ranger, not the noble or knight.
"Such a fine mare you have there, lady." Brandeles look at the maiden's mare with his eyes, and suddenly he remembers he left his steed somewhere near the woods. The ranger captain sharply whistles at once, and the steed immediately emerges from the woods and slowly approaches the ranger. Brandeles pats on his steed's head and pulls it in order to follow him. "Lady Leofric, what does a young maiden like you doing around these woods in this very late night? It's quite dangerous."

A soft giggle escaped the lips of the young maiden. Lady? Had he actually just called her a lady? It was all just so funny to Mary-Jane. "Lady makes me sound old and stuffy Mr-, erm, Mr. Brandeles. Do I look old and stuffy to your sir?" Mare said as she placed a hand on her hip a gentle smile playing on her lips. She wasn't usually able to even hold a conversation with a man and it really surprised her that she was doing so well. But this man caught her interest. There was just something about him that made her want to know more. Mare cocked her head to the side, bronzed auburn curls spilled over her shoulder as she did so. The giddy and happy mood that Mare had had before the appearance of the wolf and the ranger returned to her. She spun about before she started to hum softly to herself before starting to sing once more.
"For it was not my ear you whispered into, but my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul." A fit of giggles errupted from the young woman as she turned and looked back at Brandeles. He looked oddly familiar to her yet she could not place him amung the many faces she had seen before. So she shrugged it off for now. It would come to her eventually. "Your sweet moon beam, the smell of you in every single dream I dream. I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided who's one of my kind."
Mary-Jane finally stopped after she was out of breath from dancing where she stood just in front of Brandeles. "So tell me Mr. Brandeles what are you doing out here so late?" Mare asked as she looked at him threw her innocent and loving eyes. No matter who the person was they would receive kindness and love from the young woman. She didn't place people into catagory's she only knew that people where people and deserved to be treated as such. Another smile made its way to Mare's lips as she held out her hand and offered it to Brandeles. "Dance with me kind sir?" Mary-Jane said as she batted her lashes and gave a small curtsy. She was being silly and was having fun with this new meeting. Never had she been so very at ease with a man and now she was finding a bit strange. Had her fears just deserted her? Could she now be around men without flinching and being so very afraid? Only one way to find out.
