Arthur was exhausted, to say the very least. The past few days had been horribly busy, and horribly destructive. The city needed massive reparations done to restore it to what it used to be, but now at least the dragon was dead . . . or so Arthur was told. He had fallen into an unconscious state, but Merlin had informed him that he had struck a mortal blow sending the beast away. This was the best news that Arthur had heard in quite some time. Though he would have felt better restraining the creature back in the caves, or even bringing back a head to show his father, it was still better to see him leave Camelot than to stay for another night and burn the city to the ground.
Arthur was on his way back now, walking through the gates, the light of the fires making it look a lot brighter though it was the middle of the night. Now, they could work on repairing the city rather than preventing another attack. And now, he could focus on finding Morgana who's abduction had not escaped his memory. He knew his father was just as desperate to find her, but with the sudden attack that had happened only moments after her disappearance, there had been no time.
One of the first people who had run to greet him was Guinevère. Her hug was surprising, but extremely comforting. Unfortunately, their embrace was very short lived for he had to give his father a report of the recent events, and inform him that the beast was in fact gone. He hoped he would see her later though. After their painful goodbye, as they both had it in their mind that it was not likely they would see each other again, he wanted to at least spend a few moments of peace with her, or at least the closest thing they could find to it.
Nodding to a few of the guards, Arthur made his way to the grand hall, where he was told his father was expecting to see him. He walked through the open door, seeing a few of the guards. The guards. Many knights had died tonight, something else Arthur felt terribly guilty over. But they would pay them the proper respects, for they had died in the most honorable death imaginable. "Sire," he greeted in a slight bow. He knew he did not look exactly presentable, with dirt smudged all over his face, and his armor equally dirty. But still. Arthur was so very glad to see his father, and the kingdom of course, safe.
His father was someone else Arthur felt pained over leaving, for he thought he would never see him again either. A part of him just wanted to go to him and hug him, but knowing that his father was a bit more reserved when people were around, and Arthur having been raised with that same reservation, he refrained himself. Riding onto the field, the Prince thought he had been leaving everything and everyone behind, and he had not anticipated that they would be so successful. He could not have been more happy to be proven wrong. "The dragon is gone," Arthur announced. His voice was filled with relief, though the amount of excitement he felt was not very apparent in his tone. There was still a lot that needed to be done, but he just had to remind himself to take it step by step. He hoped that the guards would leave soon so that he would have a moment alone to speak with his father.

Uther had a lot of things on his mind right now. He wanted Morgana found as quickly as possible, and to know if she was even still alive. But far worse was the fact that Camelot had seemed on the verge of being destroyed. He had watched the fires helplessly, sending out his men to rescue as many as they could and to do what they could to help, but the town was still almost in ruins. He was relieved beyond words to see that his son was still alive and unbeknownst to Arthur, he desperately wanted to hug the prince as well. He refrained only because it was not proper in public. To solve that, he dismissed the guards, so that they could have a bit of privacy. Uther wasn't the type to go for a full-on hug, with the exception of Morgana, but he put his hands on Arthur's shoulders, his eyes showing relief. He did not speak much, but his eyes said all that was necessary about fearing he'd lost Arthur. He was a bit concerned by the word choice, though. "Gone?" he asked, pulling back to make comfortable eye contact with Arthur. "It is not...dead?" He worried now that it might return.

Arthur was glad to see that his father dismissed the guards and felt even more relief when Uther approached him, putting his hands on his shoulders. They had never had the overly emotional relationship, and yet when ones life was at stake, the other would never react coldly. He knew his father well enough to know that the relief and joy was there, but it could only be short lived for the fear and sorrow over Morgana's absence was still effecting both of them. He wished that she was here; that she could share this occasion of the end of the dragon's wrath, but all he could do was hope and pray that it would not take them long to find her.
Oh. Dear. How was he to reassure his father of the fact that the dragon was gone? Especially since Arthur had not been the one to see it, but rather, Merlin had told him. While Arthur trusted Merlin with his life, he doubted his father shared that trust for the servant. He had after all, told Arthur many times in the past that he was just a servant though the Prince's friendship with Merlin was not something he could make minimal, even if he did not express as much. At the same time . . . he could not lie to his father right now. "I struck it with a mortal blow, and it flew away." He needed to be more convincing than that.
"It would not have left, leaving the city unaffected for the night, if it was not mortally injured. I do not think the dragon would have wasted as much time, or shown such cowardly actions had it not been seriously injured." Would the King believe such words? Would he put his mind at ease that the beast was not to return. Arthur felt a bit nervous waiting for his reaction, though did not display this. Instead, he had spoken his words with confidence and sureness.

Uther studied him, uncertain whether to believe him or not. He would have preferred to have the beast's body as proof, as a certainty that it would not return, but obviously, that had not happened this time. He thought that there was some logic to Arthur's words, though he was not inclined to be foolish either. He would still not take any chances in case the beast should choose to return, if Arthur should be wrong.
At least, though, they could focus for the time being on Morgana. Uther would not truly rest until she was safe and back home.
"I hope for the sake of everyone that you are right. We must still be vigilant, though, keep our guard up until we are certain the dragon will not return." he said. "Your men can be alert for the body while they continue searching." he finally said.
"No one has seen any sign of Morgana at all while you were out?" he asked, the worry returning to his face more heavily now. It was not just that she was gone, it was that she was ill and near death when Morgause took her. He had no way to know if she even still lived now.

Arthur knew that his father was skeptical of whether the dragon as truly gone or not, and he knew that he had every right to be. If only he had something to have brought more closure so that everyone could accept that the beast was gone for good. In the meantime, they would have to live in that fear that he might return . . .at least for a few days. "Yes father," he said, in full compliance of his commands. "I will ensure we have guards on duty," he assured him. "I also believe we should have a memorial service, for those knights who died in battle for we lost nearly all of them." Arthur would not let that slip his mind; each death of a citizen was devastating.
And that was when he brought up another subject that Arthur truly wished he had a better report to give. Instead, he sadly shook his head. "We have not heard anything, and since we could not properly search for her because of the attacks, we have not made any progress." He knew how much it was taking a toll on his father and did not want to be a disappointment to him. "I will find her father," he assured him, in the most confident voice he could speak with. He had to find her. No one was ready to accept that the Lady Morgana was gone from Camelot forever.

Uther listened, taking in the different things Arthur was saying. He nodded approval to the reply about the guards, hoping in his mind that they would see nothing. If they did, they would find themselves struggling to stop the beast, just as they had before. More loss of life and more damage could occur. It troubled him how this had even happened in the first place.
"I still do not know how the beast escaped. I fear it was assisted, and if I discover who it was, they will pay."he said."And yes,you are right, a service should be seen to. They died with honor, and should be remembered."
He focused again on Morgana as Arthur spoke, slowly nodding. He wished they could have found *something*, but at the same time, he feared that they would find her dead here, another victim of the dragon's rampage. At least he could still hope that she lived and would be found.
"I have faith in you.I know that you will not rest, and I will not rest either, until she is home safe again. No matter how long it takes, how dangerous it might prove to be, she will be found. Alive."

That was something else that had been on Arthur's mind, one of the first things that had popped into his head when news broke that the dragon had escaped. How had he escaped? He had been there for so many years, it was only logical to assume that someone had assisted him. But who? Who knew of the dragon? Who knew where he was kept imprisoned? Who had access? All of these thoughts continued to worry Arthur and while he did want to investigate further, the reconstruction of the city and finding Morgana were his primary priorities.
"Yes, we should start a general investigation, after everything else is resolved of course." Arthur knew that a great deal of their resources would go into the search for the missing ward. "I will also speak to the families later tonight," Arthur added in a solemn voice. He was certainly not looking forward to that part of it, but it was inevitable and they deserved to know that their sons, husbands, fathers, brothers, cousins . . . whatever the relation was, they deserved to know exactly what Uther said: that they died with honor.
Arthur looked at his father, surprised by his sudden expressing faith in his son. It did encourage Arthur, to hear the king show so much faith in him and hold that hope that he would find her. It made Arthur more confident in his abilities as he had his own insecurities about many things. But his fathers words were what motivated him, and his approval was what the young prince constantly strived for. "Thank you father. I will not let you down." The thought of losing more men worried him, but at the same time, it would be inevitable. "I'm sure she will be. It has not been too long, and I do not believe it was Morgause's intention to kill her, otherwise she would not have taken." Arthur did hope it was some sort of ransom; at least that way, it would be easier to predict the sorcerer's intentions.
