Kolby was not bitter at all, he was simply annoyed and he was only annoyed because annoyed sounded a hell of a lot better then saying he was bitter and he was NOT a bitter man. Kolby was leaning against the wall of the citadel while watching the knights train against each other so that when the next bitter magic loving wanna-be-queen tried to take over the kingdom they would be more ready.
He was getting to old for this, but there were others older and he was not going to quit while he was behind. Kolby stood there until he noticed one of the new members of the knights enter the field. The mouthy one. These men were not knights for knights were of noble blood, but Kolby knew better then to speak up against them. The prince had put his faith in them, and they had got him out of that smelly cell full of men who had not bathe in a bloody week! Pushing off from the wall, Kolby walked over to the area this Gwaine was before speaking. "I am Sir Kolby of Arleon, my family has served the Pendragon's since they took rule." He said as way of a greeting, not sounding bitter at all.
[Gwaine]

They were having serious but equally fun time training with just about any weapon available in the castle’s armory. Among a lot of things, this was one of those activities that Gwaine enjoyed thoroughly as a knight. He not only got to fight, he'd learn a trick or two from his fellow knights as well. And vice versa. They’d teach each other lessons, share tactics and tips, and all in good well-meaning fun, and of course, keeping them all in mind and at heart for use when the need arises.
While most of the older knights had learned to accept the new ones into the fold, not everyone acclimated real quick. Of course, none of them would be caught saying anything about it to Arthur, but for Gwaine it wasn’t hard to tell from their actions. At least, they were still honorable enough to treat them civilly as fellow knights. And he personally would not dream of treating them any less kindly for they were still brother knights to him.
One such knight was Sir Kolby, who happened to take to the arena just as Gwaine was stepping into it. Gwaine gave him a small bow when he introduced himself as a greeting. “I am Gwaine,” he replied simply with a small smile. He could tell him, and everybody else who were watching them, who he really was -- the son of Sir Gareth, Knight of Gwent, but no. He became a knight not because of his noble blood, but because of his fierce loyalty to Arthur. He’d rather it stay that way. “It’s a great pleasure to be stepping into the arena with you, Sir Kolby,” he added courteously as he pulled out his sword, ready for the practice scuffle.
