He was still in a state of shock about what had taken place today. Morgana and her sister had obtained the Cup of Life and had moved against both him and all of Camelot. He would have had no choice but to kill her, except that he and his men were powerless against a horde of immortal knights. Camelot had been overwhelmed. Morgana obviously heard him when he had spokent o Gaius as he lay dying. She had told everyone the truth and had forced Geoffrey to make *her* queen and had forced Uther to his knees.
Now he was in his own dungeons, still wearing trousers and a tunic but his royal garments and the symbols of his power-the pendant and the crown-gone. The symbol of his house was gone from the battlements replaced with Morgana's blood guard. A number of his knights still lived, but they could not hope to destroy Morgana's immortal force on their own, either.
He raged, preferring death to surrender, but he knew that was his likely fate. Arthur was his only hope now. Morgana and the others seemed to believe Arthur was dead, and Uther could only hope not. But what could one man, even one as strong as Arthur, possibly do against such a mass?
He would rather face death than submission, but he was still humiliated. A man such as himself should die in battle, fighting to his last breath, rather than bound and immobile, unable to even defend himself. He could only allow himself to hope that somehow, some way, Arthur might be able to rescue him and they could flee the kingdom until they could gather the stregnth to fight back. Uther had conquered once, and he would conquer again if it was in his power. He wondered, though, if he could bring himself to kill his daughter. If he was forced to in battle, fine. But he hoped she would flee of her own accord, staying away from Camelot and leaving him without the task of executing her.

Gwen was so very afraid, but she was getting better at hiding things. She never thought that skills such as lying and pretending would be ones she would grow proud of. She never believed that she would see this day. When Morgana had spoken of having no word from Arthur she was smiling! What did that mean? Was he dead?! She was on the edge of panic and she did not know quite what to do.
There was only one thing she knew to do, only one person left in the castle how would ahve any idea of what to do. . . .
She took the try from the kitchens, very worried about her friends whom she had not been able to find. Where was Alex? He was just one of many she was worried for. At the top of that pile of names was a Pendragon. Arthur, was he safe? What had happen to him? How would he take the news of all this?
Gwen walked down to the cells, and the men in Morgana's army were standing guard silently. They were not not near the door to the cell, far enough that whispers would not be over heard but close enough that they could see anything she would do. Slowly walking up to the door she look back behind her before looking into the cell. "Sire?"

Uther heard the call, but did not immediately raise his head to look, remaining quiet in the dazed, shocked silence he'd been in since he'd been brought down here. He was far past struggling and fighting, he was exhausted from it and his wrists were bloodied and raw from the chafing of the chains. He finally raised his head to meet Gwen, the same look of horror and pain in his eyes that had was now a constant. He shook his head when he saw the tray.
"I will not eat. I will starve if it frees me from this." Lowering his voice to a whisper, he said"Is there no way you can free me Help me to escape from here?"
He knew it was impossible, no rational person would think otherwise. But if he died fighting his way to freedom, it was a better death than being tortured to death in here, dying in pain and humiliation. He would at least die a warrior's death if that were to happen.

Gwen was rather surprised that the king would ask this of her. She watched him, and her heart broke for Arthur. For this was his father. She still felt it hard to respect the king as a man, for he had done many wrongs against her, but she would not wish this on anyone. She had assumed he would think she was on Morgana's side, and that he would not do anything but call her a trader.
Gwen was only pretending, but she knew that soon she would either had to find some way to find Arthur, or do something to help stop Morgana. The people were hurting. She also knew if the king escaped that he would only die trying to escape. She could not tell him there was no hope with out a plan. She hoped she could think of something. "You an not hope to fight, if you do not have the strength to stand." She told him, hoping it would encourage him to take what food and water he could.

Uther was torn, much as she was. He knew he had to keep stregnth to escape, there was little question there. He truly was not certain what he should do now. He did realize that if he escaped and could help fight, it would be harder for Morgana to take all of the peoples' loyalty. But actually getting out of here was a lot easier said than done. That was what made it so difficult to hold out hope.
If he tried to escape and failed, he'd probably be whipped again, or tortured some other way. Morgana had threatened on a couple of occasions to break his legs if he managed to escape his cell at all. She was confident she'd capture and kill Arthur, and looking forward to tormenting him by doing it, then killing him afterward. He felt as though obeying them in any way was difficult and degrading, and he didn't trust them not to lace the food, not with poison, but with some other means of making him ill.
"I desire a way to ensure it is safe. I do not believe she will poison me. She thinks she will torment me by killing Arthur, and so she keeps me alive. But I do not trust them not to make me ill or lace it with something magical. I demand it be tested by someone before I eat any of it."
