Arthur saw the light. It was faint and he had to squint to prevent himself from being blind. It was so strong. So powerful . . . it was . . . Arthur finally opened his eyes to see a ceiling. No light, just the top of a room. He groaned trying to shift his position but his head felt so heavy. So pained. Therefore, he could not fully sit upright. He closed his eyes again trying to force out the pain, but it seemed it was there to stay . . . at least for a while. He had been knocked unconscious several times, and it was always the same feeling that overwhelmed him when he awoke. Disorientation, and a massive migraine. Never the less, he always got up and this would be no exception. Alright, here it goes. He opened his eyes this time the light not being the first thing he saw but rather a woman. A woman?!
Arthur immediately jolted in an upright position, this awkward movement only made the pain more intense. Now that he was seated up, he looked at her again, a totally confused expression on his face. That was nothing though when he started to scan the room. He recognized many things. They were his mother's. His mother's! Why was this servant here? Wait . . . why was he here?! She shouldn't be here! And neither should he! How the hell did she even get in! He was the only one who had keys to this place and he never came inside! What the bloody hell was going on?! Arthur's head spun even more -- as if that was possible -- as all the confusion settled in. From waking up to see a random face of a servant, to . . . being in such an intimate room with her!
"Whats going on?!" He demanded, obviously very oblivious as to why he was here, and why she was with him. Though seeing as how she was the only one around it seemed she was the sole person he could ask. Where was that other servant of his . . .Merlin! Yes! Where was he? Why was he with Guinevère of all people! Something did not feel right. Well, of course it didn't, he was in his mother's room! This was not a place he would occasionally hang out in. He never came in here for it carried too many painful memories, and his father would have his head if he ever found out that he came in here . . .and brought a servant. He didn't know what to do though, other than waiting for her response. So he sat, panicked, looking around, feeling too frazzled to allow his gaze to remain on her.
Setting: Moves around the castle Time of Day: Night time Timeline: A few weeks after the Season 3 Finale What If: After Season 3, Arthur was acting king in place of his ill father . . . and an enchantment strikes him where he has no memory of the past four years. Note: We wrote this thread before S4 so had to assume some things, such as that Arthur was acting king and the condition of his father and so on. Tag: Guinevère
"Arthur!" Guinevère said his name in panic! Her hands where on his face as she begged him to open his eyes. This was all her fault! She should have known better and this was what had happened! "Arthur please!" Finally he opened his eyes and looked around. "Arthur?!" She whispered unlike the two yells she had given before. She watched as he looked around and seemed surprised that he had been out cold or that he was in this room? She waited, sitting close by him as he looked around and then slowly at her. But not in the Arthur way, in a slightly confused way.
"What's going on?!" He demand and she reached out to put her hand on his cheek. "You hit your head and I thought the worse for a few moments!" She used her other hand to push some of his hair back while smiling brightly up at him. "Are you alright? You were out for a few minutes. I was about to run get Gaius but I didn't want to tell him we were down here."
She put her hands down on the ground and used them to help slide closer to where he just sat up, before she put her one hand on his cheek again and rested her other hand on his shoulder. She was so glad that he was alright! While they were not being as secretive in their relationship she had still been hesitant to tell anyone why they were in their secret place together.

She was touching him. Why was she touching him?! He just stared at her, not quite sure what to do with her . . . advances. He was in a weird state of shock. Why was she being so . . . touchy feely with him! Why was she even in this room to begin with! NONE of this made the slightest bit of sense. She wasn't even addressing him with the proper titles. Alright, so they had a few bonding conversations in the past . . . but really, first name basis? Then again, that was not as bizarre as her touching his cheek and brushing back his hair. This was too weird. Where was Morgana? She really needed to keep an eye on her servant. She was far too comfortable around him and even his disorientated state, his mind desperately searched for what he could have said or done to have given her this impression. Nothing, surely. They had that one conversation where he had seen her as more of a person and that was it. So why was she touching him?!
Arthur felt far too uncomfortable to appease this behavior, so when she slid closer to him, placing her hand on his cheek once again, he jolted to his feet. The sudden movement -- as before -- made him stumble a bit for he knew that he had not been ready for the sudden shift in position. But he had to. He blinked a couple of times, holding his hand out, almost as if warning her to stay back, or use it to keep distance between them. "How did I get here?!" He asked in an ever so slightly shaky voice. Yet, still demanding. Wait! More importantly . . . "How did you get here?!" He questioned, clearly not at all comfortable with her presence, here, with him . . . with her being all . . . touchy! She was literally all over him! Now he knew he was a Prince and all, but really. He would not have expected this kind of behavior from her.

One moment she was sitting close to him, glad that he was awake and the next he was jumping up and using his hand to tell her to stay back. How had they gotten in here? Though it seemed he was more interested in how she had gotten in here. "I. . . . i don't understand." She admitted, "The same way I always do. Arthur are you alright? Maybe you should lie down?" She glanced at the door knowing that she needed to get Gaius, she could tell someone was wrong with him.
She could not quite place how or why but something felt wrong in this moment. He was holding up his arm as if to tell her to stay back but she pushed from the floor and walked closer stopping only an inch from his hand. Her face lined with worry as she watched him, trying to think of the best way to help him, but not knowing what was wrong in order to help. "Your frightening me, let me run get Gaius for you. I think you hit your head really hard."

Always? ALWAYS?! What always! No one would ever dare enter this room! There were very few who even know about it, and Arthur was fairly certain he would not have shared such a precious location to Guinevère, of all people. Had she seduced him, lured him here?! No. He may not know her well, but she didn't seem like that kind of woman. Hopefully. Then again, what other explanation could there be for her touching him and sitting here with him. She was so, comfortable with him . . . too comfortable and it gave him the exact opposite reaction! "No!" He exclaimed when she offered to get Gaius. He didn't understand anything! He felt like he had entered some parallel universe! For all he knew, Gaius would end up being his father considering how twisted everything was right now! He needed to get out of here. He couldn't concentrate when he was in this room, with her. He took a few more steps back. "You need to leave," he demanded in a stern voice, but his confusion weakened his tone, not coming out as strong as he had wanted it to. "You should not -- "
Arthur was cut off when -- during his backwards movement -- stumbled on something. He abruptly turned his head to see what it was, and seeing it send another wave of shock through him. It was . . . a portrait of his mother and, what used to be his father. And it was destroyed! Arthur quickly crouched near it, frantically looking at the content of this picture. Who had done this?! Who DARED to destroy such a sentimental picture?! Arthur was going to kill them. "What happened!" He exclaimed not sure if she would have the answer . . . unless . . . His expression shot to her, a mix between a glare and still confusion. "Who did this?! Did you?!" Why would Guinevère do such a thing? What possible reason could she have? Then again, what possible reason could she have for being here to begin with! None of this made any bloody sense!

Guinevère's hands shoot out as if to steady him when he moved backwards but she did not touch him seeing as he was struggling to come fully back to the moment. It wasn't until he saw the painting that any clue of what was going on came to her. Did he not know what happened too it? How could get forget? He was acting so strangely, and asking why she was in this room. It was as if he did not remember! "Yo-----You do not remember?" She asked her voice awakening and her eyes were afraid.
Guinevère could not be the one to tell him about the painting. She could not tell him that he had done it if he did not remember. How could he not remember? Had he hit his head that hard or had everything built up over time and just . . . . . Gaius! She needed to go find him! He needed to help Arthur! "Arthur what is the last thing you remember?" She asked first, so she would know just how bad things were, and to avoid answering about the painting.

Remember what?! What was he supposed to be remembering?! How would that find helping the find the person who had destroyed the picture! How would that explain what she was doing in here with him! Why was she even still here?! She seemed so comfortable in saying his name . . . granted, the last time they had all been together it was under rather informal circumstances, but still! She was, just too at ease. Well besides her apparent worry which was rather misplaced. His only worry was what happened to this picture, and what the hell she was doing in his mother's room! What was the last thing he remembered. That was indeed an excellent question, and he grew perplexed in trying to obtain the answer. He searched his clouded mind for the very last thing he recalled. It was difficult, but perhaps that was because he had just woke up . . . he still didn't even understand why he was unconscious! And Guinevère was only asking him more questions!
"I," He was not ready to answer that, for he did not know the answer. "I need to speak to the king," he said as he stood up properly, trying not to look too distraught over the ruined image of his beloved mother and father. "And you should leave," he added once more, reminding her that this was a very personal room and that she had no business being here. He would wait for her to leave first before seeking out his father so that he could gather his thoughts and collect himself before hand. He did not want to seem so confused to his father for he may be suspicious that it was magic, and considering that Guinevère was the only one present . . . well, he did not exactly want her to get arrested again. Morgana would kill him for allowing that to happen not once, but twice!

Speak to the king?! Speak to the king?! Guinevère's eyes were wide and shocked at his words! He did not remember! Even if she had thought he was joking (which she had not) then this would prove it! He did not know he was king?! He was being formal with her, and trying to push her out of his room as if she did not belong. Guinevère shook her head no for a few seconds while trying to build up the courage and strength to tell him. What else had he forgotten?! He did not seem to be at ease with her! Had he forgotten her in the since of forgotten them?! "Please," She begged him in a whisper, "What is the last thing you recall before you woke up?"
She needed Gaius! She needed Merlin! Why were they never around when she needed them most! She knew it was unreasonable t think they could be everywhere at every moment but she was feeling like she was spinning right now and there was nothing holding her still. She wanted to tell him he was the king, and that he was building a stronger kingdom then his father could have imagined but she didn't know how! How did one tell someone that!? With as formal as he was looking and sounding she was begin to wonder if he would even answer her question. Was she just a servant to him? Would he treat her as such? . . . . . would it break her heart?

She was shaking her head?! Really?! Arthur had just told her to leave and she continued to stay. This was very strange. Here she was, asking him once again what the last thing he remembered was. It was just making him more annoyed, mostly because his memory was a bit hazy. He recalled general things, but he cold not recall the events that had led him to this room in the first place . . . and he hated not knowing that. He hated feeling this, disoriented! "I don't know!" He snapped in a clearly agitated and frustrated tone. He did not mean to snap at her, but he just did not know what to say either. He turned away, bringing his hand to his forehead, evidently distressed at all the confusion that overwhelmed him right now.
Seeing as she was the only one here, and the unmistakable sincerity in her tone of voice, he figured that she may be his only hope for answers, and she seemed willing enough to help. After pacing back and forth for a few steps, he slowly started piecing together little snippets of what the last thing he remembered was. "I was . . . " Arresting her father. Oh. OH! Maybe that was why she was here! To convince him of his innocence -- though Arthur didn't even remember why he had been doing such a thing. The last full event he remembered as the curse that had befallen the kingdom, maybe he should start there? No no. He should start with the most recent memory . . . one that involved her father. But if she was here to get him to release the blacksmith, why was she not more upset? Her father must have been released! Yes! In which case . . . "I need to speak with your father," he told her in a very casual voice, clearly not having the slightest clue as to why his words were very inappropriate.

The blood slowly drained from her cheeks, and any signs of emotion feel from her face at his last words. When he had snapped at her, she had jumped slightly but didn't back away. She had remained still and stead fast as he paced and tried working things out--or so she assumed--in his head. His words however were like a slap to the face, an awakening. . . . proof. He did not remember anything. Why did he need to speak with her father?
If he thought her father was alive then . . . . that was years ago! Three years or so ago. A bit more if she got exact. He had died before Arthur and she . . . . Guinevère's shock fell off her and her eyes filled with tears, both from the strong reminder of the first man she had ever loved--her father--and because it appeared Arthur remembered nothing. "My fath--" She broke off and turned away for a moment to rein in the emotions. "My father was executed when he attempted to escape the castle's dungeons." She told him and then slowly looked at him from over her should, turning slightly to see him easier. "Three years ago."
"Please! I need to get Gaius for you. You hit your head hard, and he could help you." Guinevère wanted to go and take his hand and beg him but if he was back there--to three years ago then . . . . pushing him too hard would back him fight her. To her, he was everything. He was the king and her heart and her hope. EVERYONE'S hope! To him she was a servant that he barley knew.

He did not fail to see the sudden tears in her eyes. That only made him more confused! Why was she crying if he was asking to talk to her father. Her next words hit him hard, not because he was suffering the emotional devastation over losing him -- though the idea was sad . . . it if it TRUE! That was impossible though. Her father was not dead. He would not have missed that. Morgana would not have reacted well to that. And well, it had not happened three years ago! He gave out a strange sort of awkward smile and chuckle, completely in disbelief of her words. "Come now, he's not dead," he argued, refusing to believe that. Though, why had she gotten so emotional? Had he left? Maybe he was still in prison. Though why would she fabricate such a story, for the loss of a parent was never something to lie or joke about.
He did not like her continuing to convince him to see Gaius. He did not need to! "Perhaps you need to see Gaius," he suggested, countering her insistence for him to visit the physician. He was not the insane one here! Maybe she was the one with some sort of mental affliction. He was no idiot. He was not living in the past. Of course, this could just be denial no his part . . . no. He knew what he remembered, he knew what happened yesterday. What he did not know was how he had gotten here and why she was making up strange stories.

She stared at him with open anger and her lips parted in a very unladylike gesture of shock. She knew that she had once thought Arthur to be a bully but had he just laughed at her?! The only thing that keep her from yelling at him was because it had not been a cold laugh but more a disbelieving one. "I would not jest about my father!" She demand out, her voice showing the stress and emotion she was fighting to hold back.
"I can prove it's been years." She told him, still fighting back tears, and the anger she felt. "A year after my father died, the dragon your father trapped under the castle escaped and started attacking the city. You were injured!" her voice still sounded assuring but at the memory of him saving her it softened to something else. Something softer and more understanding.
Not anger but worry for him, "You were injured." She repeated softer before walking up to him and reaching for the collar of his shirt and pulling it swiftly down. There were the scars now two years old of when he had saved her life, and risked his own. "Please, let things be proof. Come see Gaius! Let him help you."

"I would not jest about my father!" Well that's what he thought! What kind of person would joke about such a thing. As he already recognized, he may not know her very well but she did not seem like the kind of woman who would possess such a twisted sense of humor. And judging from her angry reaction to his words, she seemed fully convinced of him. She wanted to prove that it had been three years? Well he could prove it too just be walking around, casually strolling to her father's house for starters to prove that he was alive! Or the dungeons. Maybe he was still there. He had not heard about him escaping or anything . . . maybe somehow he had and convinced everyone that he was dead? As such possible justifications for her strange words entered his mind, her next statement only confirmed something: she had completely gone mad.
What the hell was she talking about. The dragon had not attacked the city; it was kept in the depths of the castle, securely chained in the cave. He was not injured either! He felt perfectly fine! He didn't even know what to say to this as it was utterly absurd! What kind of maid did Morgana have! She really need to consider getting a new servant, for Guinevère was clearly not in good mental health. Arthur had been to surprised by her suggestions to move bad as she stepped towards him. But when she started to reach for the collar of his shirt, and pull it down -- What was she doing?! that made Arthur feel rather uncomfortable, and he quickly moved himself away from her touch. She was touching him again! Did this woman have no self control whatsoever! He had been so appalled by her actions that he had not even bothered to look at the scars. "Stop, doing that!" He demanded. It was one thing for a woman to tend to his wounds. But it was something completely different when she felt so at ease at moving his shirt down, and touching his cheek.
He was now giving her an extreme stern look; a subtle glare as if to warn her not to touch him in such a way again. And then she yet again, brought up Gaius' name. This was ridiculous! He was going to put an end to this once and for all and if Gaius was the only one who could settle this, then so be it! He would see him to prove her wrong; he would see him so that she herself could get help and stop blaming him for the false reality she had created. "Fine. Let us go see Gaius," he agreed, agitated that she was making him do this. It would be good for her though, to see the truth rather than only the figments of her imagination. He began to storm out of the room, angry and highly annoyed. "And after wards, I need to have a word with Morgana about her maid," he mumbled, though ensured it was in an audible enough tone for her to hear.

Arthur had pulled back before he could see the scar and yelled at her! It she needed more proof that she was nothing but a servant to him this would have been it. It hurt but she knew in her heart that this wasn't who he was. Yet part of her grew afraid, what if he never remembered her? What if this was not something Gaius could fix? She stared up at him for a few moments until he stormed past her. As he did she closed her and eyes and did not move for a few moments. Finally when she had built up enough strength she turned to follow him.
It was his words about Morgana that caused a gasp to escape her, but she said nothing! What could she say?! Until he was willing to believe her nothing she said would do any good, and if he saw her as nothing but a servant then speaking against a noble would . . . .
She stared at him for moment before looking away, and falling into place besides him, as she always walked now but his side. After a few steps however, habit and uncertainty made her fall a few paces behind him. She knew that she could walk besides Arthur--HER Arthur--with no fear, but if he did not remember her and everything between then it it felt . . . . too forward. She said nothing, unable to say anything at the moment.

Arthur did not wait for her, though if she did not come soon he was would demand her to, for this whole idea had been hers. He did not even want to see the physician! But never the less, he continued to storm forward, hearing her footsteps follow him behind. Well, at least she knew her place now. It was better she walk behind him than attempt to touch him inappropriately. He quickly moved up the stairs, not waiting for her to catch up to him. Though he had been walking in somewhat of a fury, he began to slow down a bit as he noticed his surroundings when he got into the more common hallways. Things were very out of place. They were, destroyed practically. Disheveled even. No one else was around him to ask what happened. He knew his castle extremely well though, so it was not difficult to tell that something had attacked the. Was that something what had knocked him out? Is that why he was taken to his mother's room? For it was the only safe place?
So many more questions, and he was almost afraid to ask her for her answers were just so preposterous. But, he would have to take his chances. "What happened here?" He asked, his voice less angry and now filled with concern as he became worried over the state of the castle. Were many injured -- or worse killed -- by whatever attack had caused all this destruction? Was the king alright? He wanted to find out all the answers . . . but had a feeling he was not asking the most reliable source. He had little choice though for his impatience forced him to, even if it was just until they reached Gaius who would undoubtedly give him a better idea of what was going on. "And don't tell me that it was the dragon who did this," he added, his tone somewhat sarcastic as he still did not believe her when she said that it had broken free and attacked the city, and attacked him. It was not something he would be likely to forget. It was more likely that she would make it up.

She followed him as they moved at a pace she was almost running behind him to keep up with. It was not until he got to the main halls that he finally slowed. Guinevère knew this would be an eye opener, but she wondered if he was ready to hear everything. She was afraid to tell him everything. Morgana had been so close to him--to everyone--and had done so much damage. Guinevère knew she could not tell him the bad parts, but she knew she had to give him some answers in hope they helped him fill in the rest of the holes and brought him back to her.
"The dragon was two years ago, the castle was rebuilt after the attacks. This was something else. There was a . . . . . a-a trader in the city. You went to find the cup of life, and Cenred got to it first. Their immortal army came here and took over the city. A week later you took the city back." She gave him the major details and left it all vague both from fear of being the one to crush him and because if he did not believe her then it would only hurt their cause. "It looks allot better then it did. You've started rebuilding again, already . . . . . your giving people back their hope and pride in the kingdom." Since Uther had all but destroyed it.
The truth, or well the full truth was much darker then what she was giving him. The trader had been his sister, one born with magic. She had attempted to kill him and her friends before siding with Cenred to take over the kingdom. Guinevère wasn't sure how Cenred had met his end but she had over heard them talking about his death. The sisters then preceded in trying to break the kingdom under their rule.

Her story did not make the slightest bit of sense. He supposed this should not have surprised him though. He just . . . had not expected her to come up with such an elaborate answer. A part of him knew though, that the things such as what she had said, could not easily be created in the spur of the moment. Something was not right here. Something felt very off. But, he still could not believe her story for the sole purpose that he did not remember anything of what she said, actually happen. He was the Prince of Camelot! He would not forget a traitor, or finding the cup of life, or Cenred claiming it, or restoring the kingdom. This was not so easily forgotten. So why would she say it? "Oh really," He said nonchalantly, in a way that was humoring her ideas of everything that had supposedly happened.
"And I suppose that the traitor was Merlin and that this was revealed when he victoriously held up the cup of life, summoning the immortal army, while Cenred flew into Camelot on the dragon claiming the kingdom for his own." The way he had phrased everyone, was almost in a mocking way. He did not believe for a second that Merlin was this 'traitor' that she spoke of, though there was some strange sort of hesitancy in her voice. Neither did he believe that Cenred had gotten hold of it. He knew there were tensions between the two kingdoms, but they were not in war yet. Everyone was waiting for the declaration to be official, and that time had not yet come. She was getting way ahead of herself. His words had just been meant to present an image that was so bizarre and completely unbelievable . . . just as her words had been.

Guinevère stared up at him waiting for some sign on if he believed her or if he would nee more proof. If only he had looked down at his scar rather then attempt to push her away then he would have seen that he had signs on his body that time had started to heal away, that gave proof to her . . . .words . . . and . . . .
Guinevère stared up at him as he mocked everything that happened to everyone in the past few weeks and in a way, the past year. So many had died, both by unfair and horrid events and by giving their lives to the cause HE FOUGHT FOR EVERY DAY OF HIS LIFE!!! Guinevère knew then that he really knew nothing of the past few years! He was back to that seeming little bully of a prince that did not think of anyone but him self! She smacked him, and her actions did not even shock her! She felt so angry at his words even while she knew that the real Arthur would never had said them!

Arthur had been just standing there, looking at her with a somewhat amused expression over his little humorous exaggeration of what had happened. He did not think she would take to it well, but he never would have expected what happened next, to have actually happened. SHE . . . SLAPPED . . . HIM! How DARE she! His eyes widened with shock as he just stared at her, feeling the burn of her hand having just struck his face. It was not so much the physical pain, butt rather the audacity and boldness that had compelled her to do such a thing. His mouth hung a bit open, further demonstrating his surprise . . . his very angry surprise at her act. He knew that his remark was my no means polite, but that did not give her the right to do what she had just done! He had never been slapped like that in his life! Especially not by a servant, and he would not tolerate such a thing.
He slowly brought his hand to his cheek, the side that she had hit him on. "You just slapped the Prince of Camelot!" He spat out accusingly. It was a bit of a threat, as he wondered if she truly realized the magnitude of doing this. He could throw her in the dungeons for this! And right now, that seemed pretty damn tempting. He often held a respect for women, but she . . . she had just crossed a line. Surely she was not oblivious to this. Surely she recognized the repercussions her actions could have. Oh he was definitely going to have a conversation with Morgana about this, and while he knew that to some extent Morgana would side with Gwen, he was the prince and he would not appease such things. But right now, all he could think of was one thing: how dare she slap me!

"How dare you!" She told him, anger in her tone apparent, "Believe me or not but it gives you no right to mock the dead! Many, many GOOD men died when Cenred's army came here! They died fighting for your kingdom! The ones that were allowed to live, made it though a week of hell with the knowledge and hope that YOU could come back one day!" She stared up at him, and wondered what this Arthur would think of everything that had happened over the past few years. She had the feeling he would disapprove of everything inducing his newest knights.
"Merlin risked his LIFE fighting that dragon with YOU! Twelve knights went to battle and only YOU returned!" and later they found Sir Leon was alive as well. "Cenred's army and the trader's rule left many more dead! You don't believe me but, take a walk around your kingdom! Walk down the halls of your castle and into you city! Look into their faces and see their fear and uncertainty! Believe that! Once you do then go and see Gaius! He's the only one who can help you!!" She turned to walk down the hall but stopped and turned to look back at him. "And i did not smack the prince of Camelot! I smacked it's king!"
She knew that if he went off and saw everything he would start to believe her. She could not stand here and speak with him! She could not follow him around right now! This Arthur . . . . She was nothing to him and every subtle little move made that clear, and he didn't even seem to care that she was distresses! he just took joy in mocking what she was trying to tell him! Turning, she started walking quickly down the halls, wanting nothing more then to find Gaius and start getting him help!

Woah. WOAH! He had clearly hit a nerve. Arthur did not know what was more shocking . . . her slapping him, or her suddenly yelling at him as if he was just another commoner. He was the prince! She would be wise to remember that! But clearly wisdom was something she was lacking. He just stayed silent during her little outburst. He didn't know what to say! He didn't know what she was talking about. How could he reply to something when nothing of what she said made sense! She was taking it rather personally though, and Arthur would have too had he believed her. The thought of his knights, of civilians dying . . . was truly a devastating thing. But how could that be?! He would not have forgotten such an event. He would have remembered it, he too would have mourned for them. And he certainly would not be ridiculing whatever situation had caused their death. It was a good thing that he didn't believe her.
When she appeared to begin to walk off, he opened his mouth to say something -- rather uncertain of what would come out -- but her comment immediately silenced him. KING?!? What?! No -- How -- His father -- King?! He stared at her in utter shock -- more so than her slapping him, though that was a close second. How . . . no no. NO. That was not possible. His father was not dead. He couldn't be! Arthur knew he had not failed to remember the other things, but he certainly would not have forgotten the king's death! That would have just been . . . too much. Far too much! The way she said it though, sent a chill down his spine as he feared the worse. It couldn't be! But he had already determined that she would not have joked over the death of a parent. How could she even joke about that! NO! It was not true! It was clear that she was just plain crazy; mentally unstable. That had to be the only logical explanation. Never the less, he decided that it would be best to -- as she so kindly suggested -- take a walk around the kingdom. To prove her wrong. yes. That was what he would do. Prove. Her. WRONG!
--- An Hour Later ---
It was not very becoming of a prince to cower in the corner, skulking in the hallway, afraid to show his face. But that was what Arthur Pendragon had resorted to doing. He had indeed taken her advice, and took a walk around the city. It did not produce a comforting result. He had encountered people he did not know, though ones who seemed to know him very well. He had asked about the king, and while this time he was not told that the king was dead, he was instead updated on his current status; that he was still in recovery. That was when everything slowly spilled out. He asked what had happened, and the knight he asked only consolingly put a hand on his shoulder, telling him that they would all get through this. Get through what had been Arthur's question, but he would soon find that out too.
He was unable to find Merlin anywhere, and he had not immediately gone to Gaius for he was slowly entering a state of paralyzed shock. After that rather confusing conversation with the guard, he had gone to Morgana's room, only to see it completely vacant. This had sent another surge of panic through him. He demanded to know where she was from one of the guards, and the man looked at him with a terrified expression. I don't know My Lord. Hopefully far away from Camelot. Arthur had no idea what he meant by that but it seemed expectant of him to understand, so Arthur let it go . . . for the time being. The guard had scurried off, as if he was afraid to talk about the subject of Morgana. Why?! Had she been one of these casualties that Guinevère spoke about? But why then would the guard state that she was hopefully far away from them. That made NO sense whatsoever. None of this did.
As he further ventured into the city, he began to encounter many randoms. One man -- who Arthur had no recollection of knighting -- named Gwaine who smacked him on his back in a friendly gesture. He asked where Guinevère was, and seemed to have a suggestive tone to the way he asked. Why would Arthur knew where she was?! Even though he had just been with her, why would that have mattered? Why did this knight even care? Why was there some sort of odd implications behind his words? So many questions; so few answers. And then he noticed some other knight who nodded his head in a respectful bow, and who had a striking similarity to Guinevère. Arthur wasn't sure what it was about him, he just seemed like he could be Guinevère's brother almost. But that thought was just ridiculous. How on earth could the son of a blacksmith be a knight of Camelot. Preposterous! And then . . . there was one giant of a man with an excited grin on his face when Arthur addressed him as a vague Sir. He had not thought it possible for anyone to be taller than Sir Leon, but this man proved that theory wrong. He was huge! He did not look like a nobleman either.
None of these men did, and yet, they were clad in the knightly attire of a servant of Camelot. Who the hell were these people?! The Prince made it a point to get to know the men that he knighted, so how could these particular knights have joined the army without the prince's knowledge?! Had his father knighted him? No. Arthur would not have missed that ceremony. Soon enough, he did see a familiar face but this was not in a good way. It only raised more confusion in him for that familiar face was none other, than Lancelot. Lancelot. The man who had not been a real nobleman -- the man that Arthur had wanted to join them so badly. The man who had saved the kingdom, but had left to avoid Arthur and his father arguing on his behalf. How did he get back here? How had he become a knight? He looked at him with great surprise, and Lancelot was not oblivious to this expression. He seemed to awkwardly greet him and the walk away, leaving the very confused prince just standing there.
It was as if all of them knew him so well . . . and he hadn't the slightest idea of who any of them were! How could this be?! It was terrifying really, to be this clueless, to be this unaware of the goings on in his kingdom. It was so very unsettling and started t create great panic in the young prince. Who was apparently, no longer the prince, but rather the king, as Guinevère had told him. The more he walked around, the more evidence he saw of her claims. He had asked questions, trying to act like he knew what was going on, though they were all based off of what Guinevère had said. He brought up the war with Cenred a few times, hearing that if he had not had the help of Morgause -- whoever the hell that was -- then he would not have been able to take over Camelot. Or apparently, this Morgause person had done so. Some sort of sorceress no doubt. People said such things with great casualness, as if Arthur already knew everything, which he most certainly did not! But to vocalize such things would only make him look like a greater idiot.
There were still two things that others would not discuss, two questions that he had asked and two subjects that were clearly avoided: Morgana, and what had happened to his father. He did not understand. He was so confused, so . . . afraid in a strange way. Arthur never thought of himself as a coward. When in amidst a battle, he was the first one one out on the front line, prepared to fight no matter the cost. But to not know what was going on, to not be able to trust your mind, to be apparently missing the past two years of his life . . . this instilled an unfamiliar, unimaginable kind of fear within him. It was why he was hiding in a random, secluded hallway, the one near his mother's storage room, for he knew that no one else would come here. He also had some strange hope that Guinevère would return, for it seemed she was the only one willing to give him answers without looking at him like he was crazy -- though she had done that too. But Arthur didn't know what choice he had. He didn't know a lot of things.
What he did know right now was that he was too overwhelmed to see another face that he was expected to recognize, but did not. He was too confused to engage in another conversation about current events in the kingdom when he could not recall the past two years. He was too afraid for his father and Morgana for no one seemed willing to give any sort of hint as to where Morgana was, and why his father was like this. The more information he received the more panic filled him for he was just so, oblivious. How could he apparently be a king when he didn't know what was going on in his own kingdom?! Why was he even the king to begin with when his father was alive?! If everything Guinevère had said was true, then he had a great deal to be updated on, and he was not sure he wanted to be. So for now, he remained here, leaning against the wall, trying to catch his breath as he was afraid he was going to have a panic attack and start hyperventilating . . . very soon. Whilst leaning, he slunk down the wall, sitting with his legs propped up as he rested his elbows on his knees, and held his head in his hands. He closed his eyes, feeling as dizzy and disorientated as he had been when he first woke up, but this time for an entirely different reason. This time, he was more afraid than before.
