"How were you the most to lose, when all they needed to do was target someone else I am closer to?" Because there was no one else closer to him then her, and they knew that she would tell him everything and he would not be able to not come to her aid. She could not tell him these things, however. Side stepping most of his questions she forced on that part of it. "My brother is the only family I have left, and Merlin would foiled other plans against you before. Maybe they thought I was the most unprotected, or maybe they thought I would betray you."
"I don't pretend to know their minds, even I thought it odd they knew about my brother when only few did. Elyan had not been home since years before my father died! I thought he was dead! The only two people I have ever told about my brother was Morgana and you. Even then I had not talked about him to Morgana in years." It had hurt thinking her brother was dead and she'd never know how. It had hurt to know he was alive and not dead as well.
"You almost died because of my and my brother, and I have never quite forgiven my self for that. You went in to help him but . . . . they knew we were coming. We were their prisoner for a while, but you managed to get us all out. You and Merlin. It's always you and Merlin." One was her brother and one was her love. "Merlin is like my brother, but . . . . I still can't express how glad I am that you got my brother back for me." She wanted to kiss him and thank him how she should have back then.

Her response didn't really answer his questions. He only had more. Even Cenred, surely, would have thought that someone else would be a better target to kidnap. Maybe she didn't have the answers, but it just showed that perhaps they were good friends after all. Maybe everything she was saying to him, only showed that they had a solid relationship -- not an intimate one but one that was based solely on a deeper friendship that Arthur would have ever expected. Besides, if he could be so close to Merlin, then why not Guinevère? He wished he could remember how they got to that level. But it was probably something that had built over time, rather than just one singular moment where their relationship changed forever. Still. It just seemed so much more logical to capture the woman that he loved and use her for leverage. But as before, Guinevère had avoided that subject. Was it someone she did not like? Was it someone that he should not be with?
He didn't quite understand her refusal to talk about this woman, but he would not give up in trying to extract answers from her. "I may not remember what happened, but I certainly would not have wanted anyone to die because of me." Not even her brother; a man he had never met before. He was not sure what else to say to hint that she did not have to thank him for it. It would be so much easier if he could actually recall the events, but he probably said the same thing at the time . . . right? Hopefully he had for it would go to show that there was not too much of a difference from who he was then and now. "You should not blame yourself for that," he added in a softer note, really relying on his instincts more than knowledge over the situation.
"I just can't understand why you. I know you suggested reasons, but none of them make sense. Cenred may not be the best strategist, but surely he would have planned it out better." Especially if Morgana was involved. But, it seemed she was as much at a loss of answers as he was. Though the suggestion of her betraying him -- or the thought -- as interesting. He could not resist asking his next question. "So, many know that we are good friends?" It would explain why that Gwaine person had questioned her whereabouts, to him of all people. With Merlin, it was different. He often did not let others know how close of a friend he considered him to be, and only those actually close to both him and Merlin, knew this fact. Was it the same case with Guinevère?

Did others know they were close? That was the easier part of his other questions for she could answer it the same way either way. Wither his lover or his friend, she was still a servant in the eyes of his father. "Until last week I was just a servant, and you were the crown prince of Camelot." She reminded him, "No one could know. It was not exactly allowed while your father was king." Especially since their friendship came from their love for each other.
"No, for a while it was just our secret but Merlin is so close to us both that he learned of it soon after everything began. The only other people that I know for sure knew about us is Gaius, who noticed that---we'll he noticed. Lancelot knew." And left her because of it, but she was coming to see that it had indeed been for the best. It might have hurt, but with Arthur she'd found something that was soul deep. "Gwaine found out, and Morgana did shortly before my brother was kidnapped but we had assumed at the time that it only meant the spy knew about us. We did not think it was Morgana."
"Morgause and Cenred must have learned from Morgana. She knew me best, and must have told them I would lead you too the trap. . . . . she was right. I guess in the end I did lead you there." She moved over to get another cup and then came to sit beside him, on his left were she was meant to side for the rest of her life. "Do you want to know about the rest of the knights?" She asked trying to change the subject.

While he understood why certain people could not know -- mainly his father -- he didn't understand why it seemed so secretive. So what if others knew he was friends with a servant? Morgana was friends with hers. Perhaps it was more frowned upon because she was a woman and he a man, and people could get the wrong idea? But for it to have taken so long for others to find out was a bit odd. So going on that mind set, he did have another question. One that could determine whether it was appropriate for the two of them to be in his chambers at this hour of the night. "Does the man you love and the woman I love, know about our friendship?" He felt that was an important question for if he were to meet this woman, before he regained his memory, then he wanted to be sure he knew what she knew.
That he did not assume to much or too little. It was interesting though, that the man in Guinevère's life would be so comfortable with her being in his room. Either that, or she was not telling him? That would not be a good idea at all. Such secrets between two people who loved each other was not a healthy relationship. He would refrain on commenting on the oddity of people slowly finding out and not all being aware of it from the beginning. Her answer to his question would provide some insights into what the nature of their friendship was, or well in terms of how others regarded them. Gwaine for instance, had seemed to know that they were close. Before the subject altered to something else, he waited for her answer so that he could learn as much about her, about them, as he could before they started talking about the other few men that he had recently bestowed knighthood on.

He seemed fixated on this lady he had built up in his head! Guinevère thought to all the girls he named and knew that they were blond and had perfectly pale skin and scarless hands. She looked down at her own hands which were work roughened and not soft. Then she looked up at him and tried to decide how to answer him. "That's not an easy question to answer. She's aware, yes. Thought at the moment I don't think he is." Because he wasn't seeing what was right before him.
"I know that by not telling you some things I am not being fair but when you think of this girl, what do you think of? Lady Marian? Lady Sasha? Lady Sophia? They are all strikenly beautiful and similar girls. What if I gave you a name right now and she was nothing like them. What if I named someone you'd known forever but never got quite along with? Or someone who you'd never looked at twice before? The part of you that loves her, had allot of changing and growing up to do before he could love her. If I gave you her name, what if instead of feeling joy you felt . . . . something else?"
"I will give you her name at dawn, when I leave. For now I beg of you! Please try to understand the man you are now, and the life you lead now. So when you learn of the details of your life you can embrace them rather then . . . react as you have the few times I hit you with the bigger events of your life. Just know that you love her very much, and that she loves you more then she can ever express, and let us speak of you and not of her."

Arthur listened to her speak of this woman, without really speaking specifically of her. She was generalizing. He did not care what she looked like, for if he already loved her then he would have moved past that any skepticism he had about her beauty. Besides, he liked to think he was not that shallow . . . . . alright so maybe he was. He did tend to lust after noblewoman who were rather beautiful, and had a past to prove it. But this seemed like something deeper. The way Guinevère spoke of it, it sounded like he truly loved her. Had it been possible? For him to find that one woman who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with? He had knew that eventually he would get married, but he'd always thought it'd be based on politics, an arranged marriage more so than a love based one. He was rather thankful for this. That he had managed to find his own woman; that he had gotten to know her well enough to love her.
While he sort of understood the logic of her not telling him, he was too anxious to meet her. To see who this woman was who had captured his heart. One that he would save from a dragon; one that Guinevère spoke of having so much love for him and vice versa. He wanted to see her tonight! He wanted to see if she was all he needed to bring back his memory. He may never know though, or at least not for the night. Until dawn, as she decided, for that was when she would tell him. But that was hours and hours away, and he was not sure he could wait that long. " . . . So does that mean you are not going to tell me?" He asked, unable to resist just making sure he couldn't get any more information from her. "Can you at least tell me how I met her?" He asked, wondering what set apart this particular noblewoman from all the rest.
Maybe she was not even originally from Camelot! "If she loves me and I love her as much as you say, then what possible harm can come in seeing her. It may be beneficial in aiding my mind to recover its lost memories." Maybe he could reason with her on that level. Or perhaps another level even. "Who is the man you love then? This is something I should probably know for if he is not aware that we are friends, then I would wish to avoid this subject with him." Not that he would go around and advertise this fact. It was just better to have a heads up, for as he was a nobleman, Arthur would probably see him sooner or later, quite possibly before his memory came back to him.

"No, I am not." This was getting harder and harder to answer him with out answering him! She was no good at these games! How had Morgana done this for so long with out going mad? (or madder.) "I will give you his name at dawn too, then if you do not already know it by then. happen to have hope that you will start to know everything soon and that none of this will matter by the time the sun has come up." She prayed it would not anyhow.
"It's the middle of the night, everyone is sleeping. Meeting anyone that is unknown to you will have to wait till after dawn. Even then, I hope you have your memory and will not need to wake anyone from their beds that early to speak with them." Especially as Gwaine didn't often make it to his bed before dawn, or so she assumed since he loved his night life and drink.
She took a small drink of the water before setting her cup silently down on the table. "So until dawn, can we just speak of you?" She asked, knowing he didn't really have a choice but she was still offering it to him as one, in hopes he would agree and they could move on.

What was it with her and dawn! Arthur wanted answers now! It seemed he had learned about the bad things that had happened, and now he wanted to hear about the good; about the people who he had loved. He had lost Morgana, but apparently had gained a love. Why could he not focus on this? If he did not have that singular thing to focus on, then it would only force him back into a state of shock and devastation as his mind played over the reality of Morgana having betrayed then; and his father being in such a poor state; and the kingdom having had suffered so many attacks. Her tone of finality though convinced him that she truly was not going to reveal anything else until dawn. And he did not want to upset her to the point of leaving. If they were friends, then she was the only one at this hour who could give him more facts on what he did not know.
Fill him in. Prepare him for the worst which was that his memory did not return come dawn. Well either way, she had assured him that she would tell him both names. He supposed he would have to wait then, although that was not going to discourage him from attempting to ask her again at some point tonight. He needed to think of another subject. There were so many questions he wanted to bombarded her with, but they would go in some sort of order. With this, his next inquiry would be relevant. "So tell me of this, Gwaine," he said, as she had vaguely explained him before. But as he had asked with Elyan, Arthur wanted to know details of the knights. For as he previously established, he wanted to know what had set them apart from all the others. After all, Merlin had saved his life before but Arthur had not knighted him -- nor could he imagine himself ever doing such a thing.

Thank goodness! He was willing to let it go! She felt her body relax, having not even noticed she was holding it tight while waiting for his reply. "Gwaine! . . . Or Sir Gwaine now I guess. He is the charming knight whom you'd meet in one of the outskirts villages. Someone you'd gotten your self into a bar fight and he took your side. When one of the men in the fight pulled out a dagger he took the blow for you. Saved your life."
"He came here to recover and the men from the bar used magic to appear like men you'd trusted. They wanted to get close enough to kill you and Merlin. I think Merlin found them out, or somehow had gotten on their bad side and Gwaine stepped into to save him, not caring that they had your father's hear. Your father banished him, and instead of leaving . . . he stole a knight's armor and joined in the melee to protect you. Once again, saving your life. Your father once again banished him."
"I am not quite sure how you found him again after Cenred's men took over the kingdom but he came back to help you. Gwaine always claimed to hate nobles, but you he liked. He said you had honor and loyalty. He's a good man, and a good friend to you. Though from what I've gathered, he like to say and do things just to try to annoy you. He's heart is in the right place though."

He met him in a bar fight?! He picked up men to be knights in taverns now? Arthur was about to question his sanity when she continued to talk, and tell the tale of Sir Gwaine. It started to make sense . . . sort of. Alright, not at all. But at least Arthur felt better knowing he had not knighted a drunkard, and that the man did indeed have honor in him if he had fought to save his life, and then furthermore, aided him in saving Camelot . . . apparently. It seemed saving his life or Camelot was a prerequisite to becoming a knight. Is that all he needed? That one assurance to have knighted them? Arthur did not take that for granted of course. He even now felt gratitude towards those who saved him, and Gwaine seemed to fit in this category. "Odd place to meet a future knight of Camelot," he said thinking aloud.
His story, his journey into knighthood surely was an intense one. But it sounds like after all he had done, he deserved it. Even though Gwaine had been banished, and like Lancelot, left Camelot. And yet their paths had crossed again? Well that was quite convenient. Arthur could not help but feel a bit honored, to hear that a man who probably had a good reason for hating nobles, did not place the young Prince-King into this category. They must have a solid friendship. One that Arthur only wished he could remember. "He sounds like quite a character," he concluded. after hearing all of this, and now equating it with having briefly encountered him during his stroll. "I saw him, during my walk," Arthur revealed. "He asked about you." Really, that was Arthur's way of 'subtly' trying to find out if he was the man that she was in love with. So much for letting that subject completely go.

Guinevère laughed softly when he said that Gwaine asked about her and she smiled brightly. She knew that Gwaine could have just been asked in effort to annoy Arthur, but she could not tell him such. He would wonder why he cared, and it would bring the conversation back to them to talking about his mystery love. "Gwaine loves everything in a skirt." She teased warmly, "He flirts with every girl he meets and and just loves life and lives it so energetically and passionately. I envy him at times for the freedom he seems to give him self."
She laughed again at the memories of Gwaine and him taking her to a tavern. It had not ended well but he had sure tried to show her a good time. Poor man, how did he live life such and not ever seem to slow down? "Gwaine is growing very close to me, and I like to think of him as an brother. I know that it's odd to find brothers in men that I've known such short times but . . . Gwaine as a way of making you an instant friend. You'd like him once you either remember him or get to talking with him. I think you two are friends."

It seemed that she had a good relationship with Gwaine, for just seeing her talk about him, he saw how her face brightened and how she laughed lightheartedly. When she began to say that Gwaine flirted with everyone, Arthur wondered if she had fell victim to his charm, but she only went on to say that she regarded him as a brother. Well, that eliminated him as a potential for there seemed to be nothing false in her words. Of course, he may not be the best judge of that for was not sure what her tell would be if she was actually lying, but he trusted his instinct which say she did not. She really had no reason to lie about this. "Well if he has done all that you say he has," -- Mainly, saved his life and contributed to saving Camelot -- "Then I too am lucky to have him as a friend." This was easy enough to acknowledge.
Arthur tended to find an instant friend as well, in those who saved him. Those who proved their loyalty and honor to him. Gwaine seemed to be one of them, and for this Arthur was grateful. "And the other man, Percival . . . he just accompanied Lancelot?" Arthur asked, wondering if that was the extent to his story or if he and the new knight had met under more dramatic circumstances as had been the case with both Elyan and Gwaine. Regardless of how they met, he was still grateful to Percival for having fought with him in what sounded an epic battle to win back Camelot from Morgana's . . . from their enemies rule.

She smiled at him, enjoying the ease of the conversation now that she could sign the praises of the men whom had saved the kingdom. By the time she was done talking about the, he would have such an high opinion of them that he would not believe anything knights like Sir Kolby said! "Yes, Percival joined him when he joined up in the woods with you. I will never forget the sight! We were running from the immortal army and they were growing closer, and suddenly a rock slide crushed them all! We all looked up to see . . . . Percival standing there behind Lancelot."
"He was so strong that he could push them over on the men! I was afraid of him at first, but he was so gentle and king. He was so excited to meet you, and you could see that you were his hero." She admitted to him, "I don't know him well, but from what I gathered Cenred's men killed his family. He wanted to help you fight them." She picked up her cup but did not drink of it. "The ladies of court might be slightly afraid of him but I have hopes everyone will begin to see around his size."

So apparently Percival also had a bit of a grand, dramatic entrance. All these knights seemed to have that in common. From meeting one in a tavern, to another being kidnapped to lure the prince to him, and now Percival who had saved them from an immortal army. Arthur felt so lost without remembering such events for they sounded like such tales to tell. Moments in life that you would never want to forget, especially when you new the story had a somewhat victorious ending. There were so many things that he felt he missed out on, yet he had been there the entire time. It was an odd feeling. While this path of conversation was less intense than some of their previous ones, he still felt that frustration over not being able to contribute to it; to not being able to recall even one single detail. Even if it was something small such as whether it was raining or whether the sun was out. But his mind was completely blank. As if he really had not been there to go through the same experience everyone else had.
Arthur paused for a moment, knowing he needed to ask another question that had been hounding his mind ever since she had revealed to him that he had knighted these common men. "I realize that these men are worthy of recognition for their heroic acts," Arthur began, finding full truth in that. He did not want to act as if he was anything but grateful, not did he wish to even suggest that he would strip them of their titles. Besides, if the decision had been his, he could not go back on his word now. "But knighting commoners, that is a violation of the law, of the code of knighthood." He hoped she knew where he was going with this. Guinevère was clearly close to these men -- as he was too apparently -- so he did not want to offend her, as she was also in close enough range to slap him. That was something else he did not know if she did often, but didn't want to take any risks. But, he had to ask how knighting them had been possible. Did his father not have a say? Did Arthur truly disregard this law? It was difficult to imagine, yet proven to be entirely possible.

He chose to speak of codes now? Had she not just been telling him all the good and great these men had done!? That they'd risked their lives no tot fight for a king that they cared nothing but but the man they saw hope in! She just stared up at him in a shocked anger that grew very clear on her face. She knew that it would not be fair to yell at him and she was fighting very hard not to. At the same time he seemed to care for the rules he broke rather then the good he'd done! "Your father's laws. Not your laws!" She tone him, sounding angry but STRIVING to be calm.
"Your father was the one who could not look beyond blood lines! You are the one who is king now! You make the rules now!" She decided he needed to know more about his father. "Arthur, you've not been the blind and obedient son for a while. You stood up to your father when you disagreed with things! You did what was right and not what he told you to do! You supported the people, and protected them from him when you had too. The rules you worry over are the every ones you tell me every day are unfair. Now that your king, you are working to chance things."
"Laws are only in effect while the king who made them is in rule. You are king now. Not your father."

Oh dear. He had made her angry again. He could see it on her face; see it in her eyes. He had been trying to avoid offend her, but it didn't seem to work. And yet, he did not regret the question, or sort of question. He did not regret his challenge to the laws and how his actions contradicted them. Her anger caused her to call him 'blind' and 'obedient'?! Really?! What kind of good friend was this, insulting him just because he supported the king who just happened to be his father! He remembered the times where he disagreed with him, but he had not done something so . . . blatantly against the rules. And what about the other knights; how did they regard this? There was just too many concerns, and seeing as how he lacked the memory, he could not understand his thought process when knighting the men. He wished he could. He wished he could remember something that had made him do this.
"I should not be king."
He stated this far too bluntly and with an utmost certainty in his voice. While she was trying to convince him that what he did was good, all he could think about was how he had gone against his father so much. How he would never approve of what he did. How could he appease it now? No. Arthur was not the king. He refused to take this role. Uther was the king. He had to take this leadership role. He had to be the one to rule Camelot. Arthur could not stand by the decisions he made when he did not even know why he made them in the first place. No matter how many memories she shared with him; no matter how many relationships she described to him . . . she could not tell him what his thoughts had been that led to his decisions; she could not tell him what he was thinking or feeling at the time; she could not tell him how his experiences shaped who he had become. Arthur did not want to be king like this. He refused.

"Don't say that!" She demanded, "You are the only hope that everyone has. After the rule of your father, and then of Morgana they need that hope!" She stood up and looked down at him, unable to just sit there as he thought about hos great his father was and how he wanted him wearing the crown again. "So much has changed in the three year's you've forgotten! He might be your father, and I know you love him but he was not a good king."
"He had innocent people killed because he thought there was magic around--" Her father among them, and almost her self. . . . twice. "--Gaius among them! Gaius, whom has supported your father for over twenty years go no faith, no chance to prove him self innocent, only tired to a stake! YOU saved his life that say Arthur! Not your father! Your father raised the taxes above what the people could pay and they started going hungry and YOU stood up to him!" And got him self in trouble. "When Morgana was 'kidnapped' and he started going slowly mad trying to find her you protected the people from him. Every time he sought to save his pride or his good name you stayed between him and the people!"
"Don't ever say you should no be king! Because from where I stand, and from the people's point of view there is no other we will serve!"

She was doing it . . . again. She was yelling at him and she began to throw out large events that needed to be presented to him delicately so that he would not be overwhelmed by the shock. Apart from the horrific incidents she recalled, he began to grow angry as well, as she insulted his father. Arthur knew that his father had his fair share of enemies, and that not everyone supported his laws and decisions -- sometimes even Arthur opposed them -- but for her to go as far as to say that he was not a good king . . . well that struck an angry nerve in the young prince. His father had built Camelot. He was the rightful ruler so for her to criticize him so bluntly, enraged Arthur. How had they become such close friends when she said things like this? He had fought men for less! How could she say that no one would serve his father?! That they would only serve him! Surely,s he was not suggesting that! Though, there was no other way to take her words.
His face was totally expressionless, feeling the extreme anger at her words. He did nothing as she stood; he said nothing as she spoke. He was waiting for her to finish for he really did not even know how to respond to all that she had said. She was going on about Gaius nearly burning at the stake -- which in itself was shocking enough. What had Gaius possibly done to lose the trust of his close friend? How had Arthur saved his life? Why had his father raised the taxes? And once again, how had he been the one to stand up for them. Then of course there was the question of how and when Morgana was kidnapped. Yet, he could not bring himself to ask any of these questions for they were over shadowed by his anger for her directly insulting the true king of Camelot. How was Arthur himself the hope for everyone? How had people relied on him so much in the past three years? How had they lost trust in his father? Until he remembered any of this, he would not allow her to speak about the king in such a way.
"You will not speak about the king in such a way." His voice held a very strong sternness in it, holding that authority which he knew he had. She may be his good friend; they may have been through quite a bit together. But he would not tolerate such disrespectful words regarding his father. He also used the term king, to further define who was the true king. Who needed to take that role once again . . . and it was not him. Whether she was right in saying that he was their only hope . . . no, Arthur found that too difficult to believe. He could not be the one everyone relied on. He was so inexperienced; he still had a great deal to learn. He was not even remotely aware of what to do in this situation. Had his father stepped down out of pressure from the people, or because he really was completely emotionally traumatized by Morgana's betrayal?
Whatever the reason, Arthur could only act based on what he knew -- what he remembered -- and right now, his father had done nothing overly wrong. He had not sentenced Gaius to death. He had not made the people suffer with high taxes. He was a strong leader; one who's decisions were not always supported, by had to be accepted. As he was the sovereign for the people. And he had to be respected. "You may not agree with his decisions, but you will show him the respect he is entitled to." Arthur knew that this was going a bit far, for he could not remember the last time he had taken this tone to her before -- probably never. But there were certain things that set him off, speaking poorly of his father was one of them. He wold not stand for it, whether it was from Guinevère or not.

She knew that he had no idea what is is saying but the words still where like a slap to the face. She stared at him in an hurt and angry fashion before wishing she could think of some way to just make him see everything how he normally saw it! This man before her, was so far from the man she loved! She shook her head no for a moment before finally being able to speak, "He's not the king anymore." She reminded him, before turning to walk out of the room not caring if he had more to say. Let him stay there! Let him run loose! She could not just sit there and let him tell her to show respect to---to----
To his father.
Guinevère stopped walking after a few moments and just stood there in the hall. He was fighting to remember things and she was demanding he behave like the man she knew. She looked back over her shoulder for a moment before turning to slowly walk back to his room. She opened it with out knocking, and noticed he was gone. She had only been gone a few moments so he must have left right after she had.
Needing the moment alone, she walked in and shut the door. Moving to sit on the end of his bed and curl her feet up protectively ageist her. It seemed the old Arthur and her were not meant to be. She had to wonder . . . . No! she would not let this shake her faith in them! She looked up as if she could see the sky and prayed for a sign! Something! Just a hint that there was hope!

Arthur did not stop her when she left. It was probably for the best. He got up from his seat only a few seconds after she had left and decided that he needed to see the true king; he needed to see his father. He left the room, not caring what hour of the night it was. He was desperate, and confused, and he just needed to see someone who's relationship he did not have to doubt. He would always be his father and that would never change. He quickly made his way to his father's chambers, only lightly knocking on the door before entering. His father was sleeping and as Arthur approached his bedside, debated on whether he wanted to wake him up or not. He seemed to be in a restless sleep, probably having nightmares of sorts. Arthur also noticed a few bruises on him. How bad had it been under . . . the enemy's rule? It was then that he decided not to wake him. But he was feeling more lost than ever.
He did not stay, for he did not wish to wake him and so left after only a few moments. He was alive, and that was the main thing. But Arthur was now the king of Camelot. He would be the people's ruler. He had knighted men who had been commoners. He had lost one of his closest friend, and learned of how many friends he had gained. There was all so much to absorb and he did not know how to process this abundance of information. And now Guinevère was gone. Probably returned to her chambers to retire for the night. He wondered if he should go to her house, seek her out . . . no. She had left and they had just been angry with one another. Perhaps this was for the best, and hopefully come dawn, he would remember everything and would not have to struggle to accept everything he found out of the past, for some of it he did not want to accept. Some of it, he would remain in denial about.
As he knew sleep would not find him tonight, he contemplated whether he should go for a ride, or a walk along the city. No. That always posed the risk of seeing someone that he 'knew' and he wanted to avoid any sort of conversation with anyone! He finally decided to return to his room. Opening the door, he walked right in and had to glance a couple of times at his best. The first time was casual, but as he looked away he had caught a glimpse of someone. That was when he quickly turned his head to look once again. Guinevère! She had returned and . . . she was on his . . . bed . . . furthermore, she looked rather comfortable on his bed. This was, almost as awkward as the touching for his bed was surely no place for her, not even a friend. But wanting to avoid another argument -- right away anyway -- he refrained from saying that. He instead just looked at her curiously, wondering what to say. He was not going to apologize for his words, but he did not want to tell her to leave either. In a way, he needed her for she was all he had that prevented him from being totally lost in despair.
