Gwen finished helping Morgana for the night and bid her well, before leaving. Unlike all the night she had ever served Morgana, tonight Gwen did not offer any comforts. She smiled and she was pleasant but she did not go out of her way. Shutting the door behind her, Gwen hurried down the hall.
She even paused out side of Arthur's door for a long moment before turning and moving alone. This was not something she could tell Arthur yet. She could not go to him with something like this, forcing him to either choose to believe someone from his own world, and class whom he loved over her.
She entered the chambers of Gaius and then hurried over to Merlin's bed room door. She returned the favor of not knocking, as she burst in and looked for Merlin. She looked worried, and stressed, even saddened. "Merlin, I need to speak with you." She told him as she shut the door to his room.

Merlin had returned not so long ago from the quest with Arthur in the Fisher King's kingdom. The magical water that he had been given had been safely hidden away where it couldn't be found to anyone but him and Gaius. He still couldn't help but wonder what it would do to help. What, exactly, did it's powers entail?
He was laying on his bed, his arms behind his head as he stared up at the ceiling, thinking over the past events. He had been dismissed earlier, and hadn't complained, but he still wasn't able to fall asleep. He felt restless, like he should be doing something. This was when Gwen burst into his room, and he sat up instantly, looking at her with wide eyes until he noticed that it was her.
She looked worried, sad, stressed. His surprised expression turned serious and worried for her as she spoke, and he climbed out of bed to walk over to her. "Gwen, what's wrong?" he asked insistently. He tried to discern what it was exactly that was bothering he, but he couldn't. Was something wrong with Arthur? Or was it something else? "What happened?" He didn't like seeing Gwen like this; it made him feel overprotective, because he wanted to be sure that nothing was wrong with her, or their other friends. Gwen was like a sister to him.

Gwen was not sure where Merlin had gone for the past few days but she would get around to asking him about his trip later. Right now she needed to confess something and she wasn't sure she could go to Arthur. When in doubt, she always ran to Merlin. He was like her brother, and he knew he'd always be there for her. Like she would so anything for him. Even with Elyan back in town, she still ran to Merlin.
She loved her brother-her true brother-but when is came to Castle affairs Merlin seemed to know best. Besides, Merlin knew Morgana well. He would know if she should tell Arthur or not. He would know what to do. Merlin had a way of giving everyone hope and guidance while not appearing controlling.
"It's Morgana." She told him, sounding just as confused and sad as she felt. The pure panic she had felt when she'd rant to Gaius was gone, but the other emotions were gone. She did not know where to start, nor now to even began to explain. "I don't know how to explain. Nor where to start." She put a hand on his arm, as if to support her self in effort to explain or to brace him for what she had to say. "I think she is using magic."

As soon as she said that it was Morgana, Merlin knew what she had came here to say. She knew about Morgana, about her magic, or about her being evil. It had to be one of the two. Or perhaps even both. But should he tell her if she didn't? Morgana had already placed her in danger once, she could do it again. Gwen was nearly always around her, she was her personal maid. If Morgana wanted to, she could put her in harm's way again. But if Gwen knew about her...
He reached up and gently laid his own hand on hers when she put one on his arm. And then she spoke the words he expected. She knew about Morgana's magic, or at least... thought that she did. He nodded slowly, but then quit, and gave her hand a comforting squeeze. He decided then that, if she knew for sure, he would talk to her about it. She deserved to know. But, if she knew, she could potentially be in even greater danger. He had to at least try and make her think otherwise. But he had to know...
"Perhaps you miss saw. How are you sure of it?" his tone was low and serious.

"I know what I saw, Merlin. It was magic. She was burning something, and she did not want me around to see it. She made the fire start with out moving." She told him, and her voice grew softer but more worried when she spoke; as if afraid that someone might over head. She was glad he seemed calm, and her emotions were to high strung at the moment for her think it odd that Merlin was very calm over this news. He was more supportive then shocked. She missed the signs that would have told her he already was in the know.
She looked away from him a moment, trying to sort everything out in her head. She was thinking of her brother, and how Cenred knew that Elyan was her weakness, and she was Arthur's. She had wondered how they knew, but now it was dawning on her. Morgana knew, and they knew everything Morgana did.
Morgana was the trader in Camelot.

She knew.
It was inevitable, there was no way to hide it from her. And there was no reason to do so either. She had witnessed it firsthand. She deserved to know about it, not to be kept in the dark about Morgana. He wouldn't try to keep it a secret this time. She was worried, and she had all reason to. Morgana was dangerous, very dangerous, with magic that she used for evil, powerful allies, and even more so... very few people who knew about it.
Merlin took a deep breath before reaching to grab her hands in his own. He gave her a very serious look, to make sure that she would understand what he had to say to her. She couldn't tell anyone, and if she did, there would have to be a good reason. Surely Arthur would believe her if she said so, but the big one who mattered would be Uther. He doubted that Uther would easily believe his beloved ward was evil and using magic.
[/color] "Gwen, listen to me. You have to be very careful around her." His tone, if she noticed, would show that he sincerely believed that. That he already knew.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Gwen did notice it this time. She felt him take her hands in his and she forced her gaze back up to his. She had been trying to decided where to start, how to explain. How to make Merlin believe her when this was so far out there. Gwen knew all well the dangers of being seen as a witch. Arthur himself had arrested her for such actions. While she had been innocent, she had learned the fear.
It was not something she'd wish on anyone. Especially Morgana. But this Morgana was different. This Morgana was scary. When Merlin's words--or more his tone--hit her, her faced changed. To say she was confused and surprised was fair, it not a bit mild. "You already know?" She ask him. The again, if she had been thinking clearer, she would have known he'd knew. For Gaius knew. She wondered if he knew everything or just the magic bit. "Merlin, I think Morgana is the reason Cenred knew about me. About Elyan. I fear she might be the traitor."

Merlin turned his gaze downwards slightly, looking away from hers. She knew it all, then. She had put the two together, and was now aware that Morgana was the traitor. Yes, and he knew that she was the traitor, that she was the reason that Cenred had known about her and Arthur's relationship, about Elyan, about all of it. That she was the reason that Arthur had been put at so much risk lately. She knew about it all. He gave her another small nod and took a deep breath, forcing himself to look back up at her.
Perhaps he felt a little guilty about not telling her, about keeping it a secret from her. Either way, he couldn't now. He wouldn't. "Gwen..." he took another deep breath and continued, "Gwen... Yes... Morgana is the traitor. She's been the traitor since her return to Camelot. She found out about you and Arthur and... she wanted to use it against you." He still wasn't happy about Morgana. That she could do such things to her friends, to people who cared about her... People that had done nothing to her.
He could understand her hating him, she had reason to. He had tried to kill her, when perhaps he should of done something else. But he hadn't had the time to think. But Arthur and Gwen hadn't done anything. They didn't deserve this. And he wouldn't let her hurt them. "I'm sorry, Gwen," he mumbled.

Gwen pulled one of her hands free from his and covered her mouth as it hung open in shock. For that long?! How had she missed this?! She almost did not believe it. Had it come from anyone but Merlin she would have not believed them. She just watched him in shock for a few moments before looking away. Apparently Merlin knew more then she did, which was good and bad. It meant it was good because she had questions, but bad because he had been keeping it to him self for so long. "How long have you known?"
She wondered why he had not told anyone, how he had managed to keep it in for so long. She had found out and she had ran to him not being able to. She knew Merlin did so much that others were not aware of, he was always helping others or up to something. She had even helped him a few times. Still, did he think she would not believe him? Would she had believed him had he come to her with this? "Do you know why?"
it was the why that she could not imagine. Why would Morgana do this? Why would she wish harm on her family and friends? When had she changed from someone who would saddle up and ride to a border land town to fight for people she did not know to this type of person? It would be the why, that would haunt her more. She could see Morgana becoming angry at Uther but why would she go this far, or try to hurt Arthur?

He wasn't surprised that Gwen was shocked that he had known. Was this the best idea, to tell her everything? Maybe not... But he wanted to be able to talk to someone about this other than Gaius. How long had he known? Since she had returned to Camelot. Heck, he had known that she had plotted against Uther way before he had poisoned her. But it was dangerous for Gwen to know, was it not?
"I... It's just a hunch, nothing more," he said, trying to pass it off as nothing, like he didn't know. Should he let her know? How would she be able to stand being around Morgana knowing all that she had done? "I just... have this feeling? It could be nothing, I could be wrong." But how could he deny her claims about having seen Morgana using magic? Or about her hunches of Morgana being the traitor?
He wanted to spill out everything, to trust in Gwen about Morgana. To answer all her questions and give her all the reasons he could think of about why Morgana had turned her back on her friends. That it all came down to Uther and his twisted view on magic, that he could also be to blame for poisoning her, that he had had the chance to end this when she was injured and ready to die. Of course, that last part might have had him having to tell her about his own magic. Which, he only feared telling her more now after her having seen Morgana using magic. What would she think if she knew he had magic too?
"I..." he sighed. He wasn't a very good liar, he knew. "Because of Uther," he explained. "Because she disagrees with him, always has." That was only part of the reason, he knew. But how could he tell her that Morgana was Uther's daughter, Arthur's half-sister, and wanted to take over Camelot now by getting rid of him? Or how could he tell her that he had poisoned Morgana?

Because of Uther? Because she disagreed with the king? Gwen looked away for a moment while she was trying to think, but it was harder then it was before. Nothing sounded right to her anymore. "She is trying to hurt Arthur." She told Merlin, "I think she might have been trying to do more then just harm him." She looked back up to Merlin, "She would hurt her friends because she disagrees with the king? We've done nothing but stay loyal to each other. I don't understand."
Arthur was another complex part of this whole thing. "We should tell Arthur?" She asked him not knowing how to even began to think of how to tell Arthur about Morgana. What part was believable? The part were Morgana was the spy, or the part where she was using magic? Or apparently the part where Merlin had known for a while and managed to keep it a secret. "Why have you not told anyone?" But she knew the answer, who'd have believed it?

Merlin shook his head, not knowing how to respond. Yes, she wanted to hurt Arthur, she wanted to do more than just hurt Arthur, she wanted to kill him. But how could he have the heart to tell her that? But he should, he knew. He knew that he should let her know about it all, because... Because how could he not? Morgana was evil, she wanted Uther and Arthur both dead so that she could take control of the throne. And she would use anyone in any way possible to get her there, no matter what happened to those people. And then another question came up: Should he tell her his part in all of this? It had been a worry to Merlin since they had found Morgana, or well... she had "found" them. He had poisoned her, he had done something to her. He had hurt her, hadn't stayed loyal in trust to her. Kilgarrah had told him to kill her to save Camelot, he had thought it the only way, but he hadn't even tried... "Well, um... Yeah, she..." he didn't know what to say, where to begin, whether or not he should say it. Would it be a good idea to tell her? Or would it be a bad idea? She wanted to know why Morgana was evil, and he wasn't sure if this was the exact reason, but after he had poisoned her, Morgause was the only one who could save her, and she had taken her away. What would have happened had Merlin not poisoned her? "You see... uh..." It was obvious that he was trying to say something that he had a hard time saying.
Then she asked if they should tell Arthur. Yes, should they? The Prince might want to know, but would he believe them? Probably not, but should they warn him just in case? Everything would be fine if they didn't tell him... right? "No, we shouldn't," he said, forcing himself to sound confident in that assessment. "He might not believe us. What if he acts all stupid and lets her know that he suspects, also? She might do something and hurt him, or... worse. The only person that she is aware that knows is me. We might want to keep it that way to keep you all safe." Or as safe as they could be.
Why hadn't he told anyone? "No one would believe me." he answered. It was true, how would he have been able to convince anyone? "She's like a sister to Arthur, she's Uther's... ward..." Yes, ward... Should he let her know Morgana was his daughter? "And your best friend... How could I have convinced any of you without sounding like a lunatic?"
