He had heard the call earlier that night. He knew who it was, knew who was calling him. This time he wasn't afraid, he was curious. Curious as to what it, what he, wanted. And so he had left his room, left Gaius' chambers, and headed for the caves below Camelot. The caves that held the Great Dragon. There were a few encounters that blocked his way, such as the guards that were guarding the area that led to the entrance. He had magic, though, and was able to quickly get past them, even grabbing a torch along the way.
With his feet padding softly on the stone floor, Merlin moved almost as if in a trance. It seemed unreal, the whole concept that he was going to meet a dragon seemed as if this was a dream. He always knew that he was different from others with his magic, but he never could have expected what was happening... or what was to come for that matter.
Merlin came to a gate that stood in front of a long staircase, obviously leading down into the depths of the caves. Surprisingly, the gate was open, but he spared no thought to why they would be left as such. Gliding down the stairs, turning a corner here and there, he eventually came to a great cavern. Holding the torch aloft, he looked about. He had never quite seen such a large place, so large that he wouldn't be surprised if he got lost in it if he ventured anywhere further from the perch that stood facing it.
"Where are you?" he called out. He knew the Dragon was here somewhere -- which only proved his point that the place was so large. He looked around expectantly, a mixture of anticipation and nervousness in the pit of his stomach.

Merlin had arrived at last to the caves. Kilgharrah extended his great wings and took off towards the only opening in the caves. The chain binding his hind leg was always a burden and made flying even more difficult. He landed on the large rock formation directly in front of the ledge that led back into the castle. The boy standing there, holding a torch waiting nervously for the dragon to show was small and, well pathetic looking. How could this boy become the strongest warlock know to man and beast alike? Destinies were strange things and no one person could change them.
"Here, I am here Merlin" The dragon said as he shifted his weight on the rock so he was in a more comfortable position. He had been imprisoned in that cave for twenty years and there standing just feet away was the one person who could free him. Kilgharrah knew he could one day use this boy, this young warlock to break the chains and grant him his freedom. He would bide his time and wait for the right moment however. Now he was more concerned with 'helping' the boy. "You are small for one who's destiny is great" The dragon laughed slightly. He could not wait for the lands of Albion to be united and for magic to once again be permitted.
Kilgharrah knew that the destiny that was to unfold for the young boy was going to be dangerous. He must make sure Arthur ascended the throne and unite the land. Other wise the land that they knew would crumble and the world would fall into darkness. To place such a burden on a young boy who didn't even understand his gift was unthinkable but the one thing that no one had was time. And time was a precious gift that needn't be waisted.
