Camelot was always a wonderful place to visit, although, at times, Elena felt as if it was more than a chore rather than something to do for fun. After all, being part of the royal family of Gawant meant that one had certain duties that they needed carry out, talking with the Pendragons, going to their festivities, making sure that the alliance stayed true. Although, in her honest opinion, Elena felt as if her father really should not be worried about such things. Clearly, Godwyn was on the best of terms with Uther, and she herself, considered herself friends with Arthur Pendragon, despite everything that had happened to prior a little bit ago. Besides, it’s not as if she was the only royal here at the moment, and Elena thought she deserved a break. After all, princess duties only kept her entertained for so long before she found herself longing for the wind in her face and the steady sound of hoof beats beneath her, or just being with the large animals in general.
So naturally, the young woman had found herself in the stables. After all, what other place would horses be? It was always nice to look at them and to breathe in their earthy smell of sweat, hay, and other such things. Elena found them to be strong, elegant creatures they way they carried themselves and traveled in the heat of the battles, striking terror into the enemies eyes, and ready to carry their masters without a second thought. As she walked along the area now, she noted the different shades in their coats and how they ranged: grays, blacks, and a few bays. Camelot clearly had some fine horses; no doubt, they were mostly used by the knights. Most of them ignored Elena, which did not surprise the young woman at all. After all, she did not ride them nor spend any time with them at all. As she walked down the aisle now though, one horse lifted its head to acknowledge her presence now. It was a bay or a dun, that much she could tell with its copperish body and the dark mane and tail. It had gentle liquid brown eyes that just stared at her.
A smile graced across Elena’s features as it let out a low whinny, “Hello there,” she said now to the horse before walking up besides it now, holding out her hand. Its head moved forward now and it sniffed her hand, the soft velvety muzzle tickling her finger tips for a moment, “Sorry, I don’t have any treats for you,” she replied now as it turned its head away from her now. Laughter couldn’t help but to escape her now at the action but she did not care as she started to run her hand over its fine neck now, her hand moving with the pelt and under it’s dark mane. The horse turned its head back to her now, and its nose pressed up against the top of her head, sniffing her and blowing hot air down upon her. Elena tried her best to hold back even more escapes of laughter, “Stop, you’ll make me laugh some more. After all, I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to be in here with you. Who knows what your owner would think?” The horse’s ears twitched at her words, but it didn’t move its head for a moment before simply nudging her, “And of course, I don’t have any treats at the moment, but I’ll be sure to sneak some out from the dinner tonight.”
The horse nodded its head, a gesture that Elena had not been expecting, but it nonetheless made her day. It was nice to talk to somebody without feeling judged or having the idea that they were expecting so much from somebody because one was simply of royal blood. No, horses never cared about that nor titles or anything else at the matter. They just liked to run and please others, but also themselves, and on occasion, hold people to their words about carrots and apples, “I wonder, can you understand me?” Elena asked the horse now as she stared into its eyes. Oh, what a curious sight this would be if somebody were to walk in on her trying to have a human conversation with a horse. Of course though, the young woman felt positive that nobody would. After all, most people were busy this time of day, although, Elena probably should never discount the idea that a knight might have a special bond with their horse.
