(Time: Season 2, Around the end of the five day festivities)
If there was one thing Alex knew for sure it was that if one was wandering through the woods for an hour and not making any progress, the term was 'lost'. Alex could no longer continue to tell himself he was merely taking a short cut. The sun was shining through the trees and making patterns around his feet and the angle of the shadows clearly told him it was getting to be midday. Alex felt his stomach growl and uncomfortably realized he had missed lunch by now.
Having left his house right after breakfast, Alex had convinced himself he would go out into the woods for no longer then an hour or two so that he could find the perfect flowers for Brynn. Four hours later and Alex was seriously beginning to rethink his actions. Not only was he not very familiar with the woods that surrounded Camelot, but he had also brought nothing with him apart from a small pocket knife. For once Alex found his good mood waning slightly.
Alex ran his hands through his hair with a sigh and looked around for a moment or two before he kicked a tree half-heartedly. Not only was he lost, but he had found no flowers that even came close to what he was looking for. Gwen had told him that girls liked flowers, but that they also liked thoughtfulness. What was more thoughtful then going out and finding the perfect flowers yourself? Alex had failed to realize that this was a lot harder then previously expected.
Truth be told, Alex was so busy thinking and worrying about what he would say to Brynn, that he hadn't even looked where he was walking. At this rate he could be anywhere. These thoughts hit him and he grumbled to himself about trees all looking the same.
Alex had spent his whole life in town and then working in the castle. He had never been a real woodsy person and didn't know much about finding his way places without explicit instructions. He vaguely remembered something about moss growing on one side of trees, and he also knew the little rhymes from when he was little, but those had also faded with time. He ran them through his mind briefly.
"Leaves of three... are good to eat?" Or something along those lines. He was sure it would all work out in the end.
Deciding that whatever he did he would remain lost, Alex spun in a circle with his arm out. He figured he would count to ten and then stop. Whichever way he pointed he would walk until he found his way home or ran into somebody. The idea was completely flawless. Or at least it didn't include him staying in one place. If anything at least Alex was being proactive.
