| The beginnings of wars were the fun parts. Especially when they did not see you coming, for you could introduce your self and walk among them. Getting right up close to them before smiling pretty and stabbing them in the face. There was something thrilling about being the secret weapon, even if you only planned to be that weapon once.
Alvarr's men had been watching the knights for a few hours, and a rider had been sent to their camp to warn them. Alvarr was known, by name if not by face, in these parts but Enmyria wasn't. As a farm girl she had never traveled this far south, so no one would know her face. She asked for the chance to speak with them, see if she could find out any bits of useful information. With the upcoming joust they were trying to find out how easy it would be to reach the king, and end his reign. With these thoughts in mind, Enmyria moved silently up beside her men (Alvarr's men) and watched the knights.
After a bit of watching she moved back, so they might not hear her as she ripped a bit of her sleeves and moved to put some mud on her hands and neck. Picking up her knife she moved swiftly to cut a gash into the man standing beside her and then used the blood on the knife to put a bit on her clothing to suggest a fight. She looked up at Alvarr when done and he spoke to her, "If you get caught--" He warned, but she cut him off int he same whispered tone. One that suggested they were both looking forward to the show about to unfold. "I wont."
With that he turned to move deeper into the woods with his men. Enmyria gave them only seconds before turning to run toward the knights, making her face frantic with fear. She pretended to be blinded with panic and did not stop running until she smacked into one. She bounced off his chest and her feet slid over the leaves that were on the ground, causing her to fall at the man's feet. "PLEASE!" She begged, "HELP ME!"

Good help was so hard to find these days. His most recent servant was not the sharpest tool in the shed. He therefore, had to make sure he maintained a distance from him so that he would not disturb the prey. That would after all, defeat the purpose of a hunting trip and make it most ineffective and the biggest waste of time. Which was what it was turning into. His moron servant had already scared away two deer and a fox. Really! What was the point?! The other knights sort of laughed about it but Arthur was just plain annoyed . . . . and his servant could tell. That ridiculous wide eyed, petrified look he gave him was pathetic, and rather pitiful. It did not work in evoking sympathy from Arthur though. Instead, he sent him away, demanding that he go and wait by the horses. It would mean that Arthur would have to carry a few of his own supplies, but it was worth it if he meant he'd be void of such insolence.
As him and the knights stood together, reloading their weapons and preparing to move deeper into the woods, Arthur suddenly went on full alert. He could hear something not too far in the distance. He held his hand up to silence the men, and they immediately complied. With this silence, the sound began more clear. There was a rapid rustling in the leaves . . . it sounded too light to be a group of bandits, or even a large animal. Its steps were light but very quick, and for this reason, Arthur was on guard. Arthur raised his cross bow up, his expression demonstrating his concentration at the moment. It was getting closer . . . and closer . . . and . . . and that was when he heard another rustling from behind him, he abruptly turned his head, seeing none other than his moron servant who was just standing there. IMBECILE!
By the time Arthur turned his gaze forward again, he felt someone collide into him. The impact of the collision was not enough to make him stumble, but it had been strong enough to send the person to the ground. The . . . woman. Arthur looked at her, slightly raising an eyebrow. She was wounded and her clothing torn, and that was when she began to beg for help. Whether he recognized her or not -- as Arthur was dressed in his hunting attire, no sign of the fact that he was royalty -- did not matter. His instinctive need to help others took over. They were in Camelot after all, and the well being of those within his kingdom was his responsibility. Despite the fact that he was a prince, he was also obligated to help those in need of it. He crouched to the ground to be at somewhat of the same eye level as the woman. "It's alright. You are safe now," he said in a low voice, attempting to sound as reassuring as he could. "What happened?" He inquired, wondering if he and his men would have more than animals to hunt down today.

| Of course she was safe, Enmyria thought as she silently reminded her self not to smile in pleasure at how easy it was to get so close to some knights of Camelot. Really, she could kill this one and still get away if she wanted, and all she really had to so to get close was have a pretty face and a few tears! This man was not dressed as a knight in armor so she assumed he was just a well dressed servant. Or a noble who was not yet a knighted man.
In stead of answering him she pushed closer and pretended to cry into his shoulder. "Don't let them get me again! Please!" She begged him, "They were trying to get me to do things! Things I did not want to do! When I refused they said they would make me, and started speaking words I do not know! It was magic!" With the silly king hunting down magic like it was a rabid dog she knew that would get their attention.
If she could get this one alone, she might be able to get some information from him. Turning to look back behind her she pointed, "They are back there, PLEASE, don't let me go!" Turning back to wrap her arms around his neck like a vine, she held on tight. With a bit of luck they knights would go looking and she'd be alone with this fool. Alvarr and his men would find the knights and she would deal with this one when the time came. Poor little boy, he would never know the trials of being of of the king's little bitches. She would save him from that fate with the dagger that was in her boot. Since she wanted his to do as she was asking, she went ahead and started crying again, while clinging tighter. |

Arthur tried to keep up with the words of this clearly distressed woman. He did pick up on a few key things. The first being that others were trying to make her do things she did not want to do. When a woman was saying that through tears, evidently having suffered -- or nearly suffered -- some sort of attack, then anyone would think the same thing . . . and it was not at all a pleasant thought. It was the acts, driven by revolting men who felt the need to demonstrate their . . . domination, for lack of a better word. And with her torn clothing, disheveled appearance, and obvious fear in her voice, Arthur's thoughts led to this one thing. And that was when she said the word magic, another key term that he caught on to.
With this woman clinging on to him though -- quite literally -- Arthur was not sure he could move. Even though she was not high in the ranks of status, she was still a person; she was still in Camelot and the safety of the people here were Arthur's responsibility. As she held on to him, he slowly put his hands on the sides of her waist, as if to further comfort her. The men were looking at him for some sort of guidance. She did not seem like she was planning on letting go anytime soon. So Arthur subtly nudged his head to them, a silent command that they all understood and complied with. They would go to see the source of this woman's tears. Arthur would . . . remain here and try to calm her down. "They are going to find those who did this to you," he informed her in case she did not notice. As if her desperate state had not been enough of a convincing incentive, but hearing the word magic raised his guard even more.
"Nothing more will happen to you," he assured once again, in a tone of voice he would only use around woman. He slightly pulled away so that he could look at her. "What is your name?" He asked, figuring that was a better way to start their conversation, rather than ask her what happened and force her to recall recent events. He would hopefully get more details when she calmed down some. But for now, he would stick with the simple questions.

While Arthur had never heard of her name before -- no surprise there -- he had indeed heard the name Alvarr. He was notorious, known for his rebellious acts against the king. He was a man that they were looked for; a wanted man. No wonder the poor woman was so frightened. He hoped his men were prepared for who exactly they were going after. Arthur was torn; should he go after them, make sure they were alright? No. He could not leave her here. If they had already tried to hurt it it would be too risky to leave her on her own to give them another chance. And he could not lead her into a potentially dangerous situation. He trusted his men. They were well trained; they would take care of it. Though Arthur was fully aware of what Alvarr was capable of and had a feeling it would not be so easy to capture him. He knew better than to underestimate the man.
"What did they want with you?" He asked, curious at so what Alvarr's purpose of taking her was. Unless . . . it was that of just some perverse pleasure of kidnapping someone, for whatever reason that anyone's imagination could reach a conclusion to. As Arthur already established, he knew better than to underestimate Alvarr and just what lengths he would go to.

While Arthur had much more he wished to ask, he knew he should not bombarded her with questions. He should not be interrogating her when she was still in such a state of distress. So instead, decided to focus on putting her mind at ease by assuring her that the men who had gone after Alvarr and his people, were skilled knights. Even if they were not aware that it was Alvarr they were going after. Nor did Arthur know how many men he had with him. Never the less, those men had not been knighted for no reason. They were skilled, strong combatants. Arthur had not made the test to knighthood a simple one. Of course, he could not babble on about all this to her.
Instead, he would assure her with a few, highly confident words. "They are," he confirmed. "They will take care of this, so you needn't worry." While he wanted to put her mind to rest, if she was taken as leverage against her father, it meant that there was a reason behind it, and her father may be in danger. "Where is your father now? We should inform him of your escape, so he is not forced to do anything against his will." They were already all the way out here; may as well do as much good as they could. "We can protect him too," Arthur added, not about to do his job half way. He would keep his promise to ensure her safety, as well as her fathers for it seemed that one depended on the other.

The poor young woman. Knights always have a weak spot for damsels in distress, and she was no exception. Yes, it was true that this weakness was stronger when it was a noblewoman in distress but that did not minimize this woman's concerns. Especially when enemies had her father in their clutches, using her as leverage. "If he is with them, then the knights of Camelot will save him," Arthur stated, confidently able to speak for them in this sense. He had no doubts about their capabilities, even when he was not leading them. It was after all important for someone to stay with her, in case any of the men who had captured her, managed to follow her. Or even to keep her out of harm's way. Either way, it seemed that she truly did not want to be alone right now and Arthur would not let that happen.
He noticed that her fear seemed to intensify. Arthur assumed it was over the thought of her father, as the subject had been brought up. He tried not to act as awkwardly as he felt. He instead, gently put his hands on her sides, not intrusively, but a gesture in attempt to provide her with some comfort. He became instantly distracted however when she spoke of Using him to kill the king. As if seeing a fearful woman running about in the woods, or even the mention of Alvarr, had not been enough to peak a strong interest in the prince . . . this was the most alarming of it all. While he should not be surprised -- as it was Alvarr's goal to seek revenge on the king for past events -- he was curious to hear how much she knew of the plan. Perhaps they would have an upper hand in preventing it, if she told them everything she knew.
He slightly pulled away so that he was looking at her, now putting his hands on her upper arms. "Enmyria, I need to know everything that you know of their plans to kill the king." His voice now became a bit more serious, as his concern for his father's safety was obviously a very high priority. "Whatever details you can remember, whatever they mentioned that may have seemed unimportant then . . . every little bit is integral." The more they knew, the better. Alvarr would not get away with it; not this time. He would either be killed or taken back to Camelot as a prisoner and executed there. Either way, Arthur would not let him kill his father. He would not even get close.
