Morgana's concious mind returned to her in a slow haze as her eyes opened; details flittering about inside her skull, trying to fit themselves together into a puzzle that was so far making very little sense to the young woman. For one thing, she had a blistering headache. Like someone had taken to her head with a candlestick and had been none too gentle about it. If Arthur had done something to her, she was going to lock him in the armory. Again. On the heels of that thought was pain as she tried to recall where Arthur was supposed to be this time of day. Training with the knights? Perhaps...
Glancing up from her seat and finally taking stock of her surroundings, Morgana suddenly realised something was very, very wrong. Those men by the doors wore colours she didn't recognise. Black and red.... a red tree.... They weren't Camelot's colours. Yet as she examined the room, she recognised it. Uther's throne and meeting chamber. Unconciously, her hands gripped the armrests beneath them and her eyes darted around.
Had Camelot fallen to an attack? And if so, why the hell couldn't she remember it?
Another thing then came to Morgana's attention as she shifted her head. Her head felt heavy, like their was a weight upon it. Remarkable wasnt it how a persons mind would only allow them to digest certain things at a time rather than overload the senses... Perhaps if her mind wasnt so cautious she'd have realised she wore a crown the moment her eyes had opened. Still as a statue she sat, letting these revelations sink in.
Where was Arthur? And Uther? And Gwen? Swallowing, Morgana stood from what she realised in horror was the throne, and swept towards the doors. She had to find somebody who could tell her what was going on...
"Your majesty?" Morgana's heart froze in her chest when one of the guards spoke up. They were clearly addressing her. What did she say? Oh god she couldnt think! Turning hesitantly, she prayed her face remained schooled and she called on every lesson she'd ever recieved and focused on the guard. She didnt recognise him. Where were Camelot's guards, the faces she had grown up seeing? Another wave of panic swept over her.
"Yes?" she replied, keeping her gaze and voice steady.
"Are you alright?"
Was she that transparent? Majesty.... Queen.... crown.... oh god! They thought she was Queen? Summoning up what she could of her nerve, she looked the man in the eye. She had to keep up whatever pretense they had going for now until she could get her bearings.
"I am fine. I will be returning to my chambers now," Morgana said head held high. That was it. Bluff. It might keep her alive for now. "Make sure I am not disturbed," she added a moment later. The man inclined his head in acknowledgement before Morgana got out of the throne room as quickly as she could. Her feet took her swiftly to her chambers where she entered and shut the door behind her. Making sure to lock it, she lent against the wood and pulled the crown from her head.
Queen Ygraine's crown.
She hadn't seen this since she was a child.
Lost as she was in her thoughts and her mind as it tried to piece everything together, Morgana failed to notice she wasn't in fact alone in her chambers.
