Uther was still caught up in contemplating the days events as he and Morgana returned to the castle. Morgana's words still rung in his ears."You are like a father to me..." He did not enjoy having to live behind so many lies, to speak to Morgana as he had and so often did,but he feared the truth too much to ever speak it. Even Gaius did not know that he and not Gorlois was Morgana's father. Uther desired that it would stay that way as long as he lived.
He had suspicions at times about Morgana. It was as both of them had said earlier:She was strong willed and very much like him. And when she tested him and stood up to him as she so often did, he saw himself. Those words he spoke had been the absolute truth. Morgana was, indeed, very much like her father. Like Uther himself.
He knew she could one day choose to move against him, and if she discovered she was of royal blood, it would only bolster her confidence all the more. For now, in his mind, she was still loyal, as proven by her actions during the attack. But he never doubted how quickly that might change.
He also thought of what she had spoken of about the rumors, about the whispers that he had arranged Gorlois's death. It had pained him to do so, but Gorlois's suspicions had begun to rise. He had begun to ask too many questions. If he had confronted Uther, the king knew that he could not have raised a hand against his friend himself. In this way, he was not directly responsible, yet the secret was safe. He had longed to bring her to him and raise her as he should have, and after Gorlois's death, it had happened. Uther kept rationalizing to himself that it was best for all-he was raising his daughter, yet no one in Camelot knew the scandalous truth which would ruin him if it became known.
He watched Morgana, inwardly happy that she had inherited his confidence and strength, loving her deeply and yet fearing her at the same time.
"We certainly encountered more difficulty than we anticipated. But I am relieved that the wound caused by recent events now seems healed."he said.

The return to the castle was spent in, mostly silence. At least, it was on Morgana's part. Internally, her mind was a tumultuous mess. A situation that was, in no way, helped by the lingering adrenaline running through her body. She had known the attack was coming, had known that Tauren would strike against Uther during their visit to her fathers grave. She herself had organised the visit for heavens sakes! And yet her body had reacted as though she had been blissfully unaware of the entire plot. She steered her horse into the courtyard behind the King, and remained quiet as they dismounted and the horses were rushed away to the stables.
It hadn't been her knife that had ended Tauren's life. It had been his own. When he'd attacked Uther, she'd pressed herself back against the stone of her fathers grave, watching as the two men fought. All the while, Uther's words had been ringing in her mind. He regretted and was wrong to execute Guinevère's father. He was sorry. Sorry. Those words had struck a chord in her, and on instinct, skilled instinct thanks to Arthur and their childhood, she had taken up Tauren's knife and killed him with it, thus saving Uther from death.
"We certainly encountered more difficulty than we anticipated. But I am relieved that the wound caused by recent events now seems healed."
Morgana was pulled from her thoughts as Uther addressed her. A part of her did feel guilty at having all but walked Uther into that trap in her anger at him, but she still wasn't completely sure if what she had done had been the right thing. He showed remorse, yes, but Uther was fickle and his feelings could change in an instant. "I am sorry my lord," Morgana apologised, though it was a little absently, she was so wrapped up in her own thoughts. "If I had not suggested we visit my father's grave, the attack would never have happened."
And two good guards of Camelot would not have died. Logically, she knew they would have intervened and killing them was smart on Tauren's part, but they had been innocents in the end. It was Uther who had been the target, not them.

Morgana apologized for what had happened with the attack, but Uther had mixed feelings all the way around. He knew that she was right about it not having happened if they'd stayed home, but he did not think she should blame herself either. Any king had his share of enemies, it was not a thing that could be avoided. And Uther's ban on magic had resulted in him being attacked more than many other monarchs probably were, unless they were brutal rulers like Cenred. And most of Cenred's people were either too busy fighting the raiders Cenred was too lazy to do anything about or too afraid to speak up.
"Do not blame yourself, Morgana. A man like myself takes such risks every time he leaves the safety of his stronghold. I am sorry that we lost two good men, that is true. But at least they died well. And you fought well. And ultimately, things corrected themselves, and for that I am glad."
Sometimes, he wished Morgana had been born a man, she was a strong willed woman and an adept fighter. That being so, however, he would have to live in more fear of another son moving against him than even her. He doubted little that she would be a formidable foe should she discover the truth and turn on him, but a son would have been even more fearsome.

His words were intended to absolve her of any guilt she might feel, but how could they? He would never understand just how deep that guilt ran. And it converged together from so many different sources. She had led him into a trap, she felt guilty over that. That attack had been her idea. It had failed. More guilt. Two good men had died for nothing. She could never speak of this feeling aloud either, or it would all come out and she would be branded a traitor. Uther had labelled her that as well. Her thoughts were not good, Morgana knew this. If she spent too long dwelling on them, they would claim what little sleep she managed inbetween her nightmares. That wouldn't do.
Thankfully, she was rescued from her thoughts, and from replying to the King, by one of the servants approaching them and bowing. "A meal has been prepared and laid out for you, your highness, and the lady Morgana in the dinning room," he said, gesturing to the doors. Morgana knew she was hungry, however she at the very least wished to change before doing anything else.
"Shall I meet you in the dinning room your highness?" she offered to the King. "I would very much like to rid myself of this cloak before anything else," she added by way of explanation. Plus it would give her a few minutes by herself to sort through the mess that was her mind at the present time. Morgana could only hope Gwen had already left for the day.

Uther listened as the servant announced that dinner had been prepared. He had asked for this to happen; he knew they'd be returning rather late and would be ready to eat after they arrived back. Uther himself had been fortunate not to sustain a great deal of dirt or damage to his own clothes, so he chose to put off washing up until he ha eaten. Another of the servants divested him of his own cloak, and Morgana spoke up just after, saying she wanted to go get rid of her own cloak.
"Thank you, we will be coming in a moment." he replied to the servant and then turned his attention to Morgana."Of course. I will wait for you there. Shall I have an attendant sent to your chambers? I assume your maid has left for the day."

"Yes please," Morgana replied softly, inclining her head before she started up the stairs and entered the castle. It wasn't an overly long walk to her rooms, but Morgana didn't mind that she did it by herself. She needed time to think anyway and the solitude of her room would be an answer to her prayers at that moment. Everything in her mind was a mess and Morgana just needed a few moments to sort it all out before she had to face Uther once more.
She returned to her chambers and unclasped her cloak, folding it up in her arms. It was slightly dirty, but nothing that a good clean wouldn't fix. For a brief moment, Morgana considered calling out for Guinevère, but then remembered that she would have already left for the day. With a sigh, the lady put her cloak aside just as there was a knock at the door. "My lady?" the attendant called before she let herself in. "I am here to help you dress for dinner," she added with a bow. Morgana nodded and gestured her over.
Preparing for the meal didn't take too long, but it was enough for Morgana to straighten herself out a little. She changed dresses, and allowed the woman to arrange her hair, before Morgana left her room and made her way down to the dinning hall. One of the guards announced her arrival before she entered through the doors. "My lord."

Uther let his own servants tend to him briefly, though he would not have anything major done until after the meal. He was shown in and seated, still deep in thought. He often wondered whether he had made the right choices over the years. He had no doubt about his decision to bring Morgana here, but although he knew he could not tell the truth, part of him often wished it were possible. That they could have the relationship a father and daughter should. But, his concern for Arthur overrode all. He would not have Morgana challenge Arthur for the throne, would not see anything threaten his son's coming rule of Camelot. And he feared that Morgana might indeed try to kill him. He would have to be content with being her father in all but name.
He was pulled from his thoughts as she was announced and entered the room. Uther had begun sipping his wine, but he had been preoccupied thinking and had been just picking at his meal a bit. Trying to focus on the present, he nodded a welcome."Morgana. Come, dine...hopefully, after we have finished, you will feel even better."

Morgana inclined her head a little and made her way to the table before being seated. She remained, for the most part, quiet though as her plate was settled before her. Now that it was before her, she realised she was rather hungry, but that had previously been overshadowed by the turmoil of the afternoon. So, she slowly began to eat, aware that the King was watching her from his seat at the table also. No amount of eating though, of polite conversation and pandering would make her feel better. It was deeply ingrained, what she felt, and Morgana knew it was going to trouble her for a long while to come. Part of her wished Arthur were dinning with them. At least with the Prince around he could act as a buffer, capable of breaking this silence that had settled at the table.
She herself didn't know what to say. How could she when Morgana herself did not know whether she was glad or regretful that she had saved the King?
Then again, perhaps Arthur's presence wouldn't be the best. He would no doubt side with his father, grateful to her for saving him and that would increase her guilt ten fold. For all her anger towards Uther, Arthur was another matter. She didn't want to be angry with the Prince, even if he did vex her sometimes with his barbs and almost inability to go against his father. But Arthur was learning. He was growing into his own man, evident enough by his assistance of her with the Druid boy. He'd gone behind his fathers back then.
Letting out a small sigh, Morgana tried to break the silence that had filled the room. "Thank you for taking that journey with me your highness," she said, unable to think of anything else to say.
