Roadside Assistance [Morgana]

The carriage had been far too stifling for her to remain in for more than a day. It was why she was currently sitting atop her gelding, trotting along at an easy pace with the retinue of guards around her. A lady’s maid trailed not too far behind her, no doubt lamenting the fact that the fine carriage was not being used. Eleanor effectively ignored the woman’s indiscreet mumbling and instead focused on the sunlight touching upon her face. The end result of the journey- her future husband’s estate- was not eagerly anticipated by her. It would be foolish to not enjoy the time that it took to get there, as she wouldn’t be enjoying the actual visit.

It was imperative, Edward had told her, that she go to the manor and check it over. Anything that she wished to change, or add to, she need only tell him. Of course, she’d rather just tell him that she didn’t very much care, but she knew that would not be the wisest thing to do. Instead she had silently nodded and requested time away from Her Majesty for the trip. She would have thought that Edward would accompany, as he preferred his estate to court, but he had to remain behind for some meeting with a foreign nobleman. Instead she had made the day and a half journey with his men, and maid.

“Halt!”

The party stopped, causing her to furrow her brow. Why had they stopped?

A woman was in the middle of the road, she noticed, as she inched her horse forward.

“Can we be of some assistance?” her husband’s master-at-arms asked of the stranger, his gallantry kicking in at the sight of the female. Nudging the animal forward she pulled up beside the man and took a good look at the woman. She had never seen her before, but it didn't strike her as odd. After all, she had only recently left her own estate and ventured out into the world.

"May we help you?" she asked, knowing that the roads were no place for a woman alone.
