They had come to Camelot a few days ago, invited to celebrate Arthur's birthday, and to introduce the littlest princess of Gwent to some of her fellow nobles. It had been Sabina's first journey outside the city of Caerleon, and Isadora had been surprised to find that she actually seemed to enjoy the rocking and bumping of the carriage on the road. But since arriving, things had gotten even more...interesting.
On the day of the party, they'd arrived late and hadn't had a chance to see Arthur before the party, and afterwards he was hardly in a condition to see them. Then, with the attack on Uther and his life hanging in the balance, she hadn't wanted to bother him when he had other things on his mind. She had considered leaving, with everything going so wrong, but she had wanted Arthur to know that he had her support as a friend, even if she couldn't say as much to him.
So they'd stayed for the funeral and the subsequent coronation, and with things finally calming down, she hoped she might get a chance to see Arthur, although she knew he must be very busy. They would be leaving tomorrow, regardless of whether or not they had a chance to see the newly crowned king. Being in Camelot made Alistair antsy, even with King Uther deceased, and they couldn't really afford to spend much more time away from Caerleon. She did have her own kingdom to rule, after all.
She wasn't sure where Alistair had gone off to --probably dumping more wine on nobles and stirring up trouble with their kingdoms-- but she and Sabina had just finished lunch and had returned to the suite of rooms that had been provided for their stay in the castle. Or, more accurately, Isadora had finished lunch and Sabina had entertained the other nobles and servants alike, since she had been fed earlier. "People just can't help but love you, can they? Oh, and you just adore the attention, don't you cutie?" Isadora spoke to the baby as she laid her down on her back on the bed, sitting down next to her, playing peek-a-boo with her and giggling every time Sabina shrieked with laughter.

The coronation had gone smoothly. That in itself was a miracle. It seemed every time Camelot had an occasion, something or another had to happen. Arthur's crowning ceremony as prince, they had that intruder. On his birthday . . . Arthur hated thinking of it. Even though it had been mere days ago. It was the day that had forever changed his life. And he had made decisions that he would forever regret. That he would never forgive himself for. Because it cost him the life of his father. He was the reason Uther was dead, and there was no one else to blame except for his own naivety and arrogance. He had mourned in the room with his father's lifeless body all night, and on this new day, he would have to convey strength and confidence. Something that he felt he was seriously lacking right now. But if there was something he had learned while being raised -- something that his father had taught him ironically -- it was how to suppress ones emotions. Whatever guilt and self loathing he had, he would have to conceal. For the people would not look towards him with respect if he could not even lead them.
But all that aside, Arthur had managed to free himself from the company of everyone for a little while. For there was someone he wished to see. Her presence had not been unnoticed. He saw her at his birthday feast, at the funeral, and at the coronation. He had just not had the chance to see her, nor the new addition to the Caerleon family. He had also found out that they were leaving tomorrow, which was why Arthur was adamant about seeing them. To express his gratitude in their presence. More so Isadora's than Alistair's . . . for he and the druid still had their difference of opinions. He knew he was not here by choice, and quite frankly, Arthur hoped he was not with her when going to visit. He did not want to hear any negative remarks regarding his father, especially from a man who hated him. But alas, Alistair was seldom apart from Isadora so he may not have a choice but to address them both. Either way, he was on his way to her guest chambers. He had not bothered to change out of his royal attire, for there was no time. And he wanted to see her while he was able to slip out for a while.
He noticed the guard outside her doors, and slightly raised an eyebrow. The guard greeted him in a bow and referral of title. Arthur gave a short nod of his head. Well, this probably meant that Isadora was in, and Alistair was out. Knocking on the door, Arthur just wanted to be sure that he was not disturbing her, or that the baby was not yet sleeping. But he heard her voice grant him entrance. He slowly opened the door, a small smile formed on his lips as he stepped into the room. "Lady Isadora," he greeted, lowering his head a bit in a bow. His eyes then went to the baby. The baby he had not yet met, though knew the name of. "Lady Sabina," he greeted, his smile slightly growing. "I hope I am not disturbing either of you?" He asked, just wanting to be sure in case she was trying to put the baby to sleep. But from what it appeared, Sabina was wide awake. Speaking of appearance, it seemed Alistair was not here either. This would give him the opportunity to speak to Isadora, without the druid looming over their conversation. Something that Arthur had wanted to do for so very long.

When Isadora heard a knock at the door, she looked up, wondering who was visiting them. "Come in," she called out, rather than standing up. If it wasn't someone she ought to see, the guard wouldn't have let them knock. She glanced back down at the baby...who seemed to be attempting to eat her own foot. Isadora giggled through her frown, before she looked up again to see the new King entering her chambers. She smiled brightly, well this was unexpected, but hardly unwelcome.
"King Arthur," she greeted in return, getting to her feet as he approached. She couldn't help but notice that he didn't look so well, still dressed in the clothing from his coronation. Her smile faltered as she was reminded of the unfortunate events he had suffered through. "Of course not, we've been looking forward to seeing you." She answered, looking down at the baby, who had turned her big blue eyes up towards the newcomer, and even taken her foot out of her mouth as she stared up at the big man with the yellow hair. He was almost as big as daddy! Almost.
"I'm so sorry about your father," she didn't want to sour the moment, but she wanted Arthur to know that he had her support. Although she had no love for Uther Pendragon, she did have sympathy for what this must be doing to Arthur. "Please, if there's anything I can do, you need only to ask." She didn't know if she would be able to help, but if she could, she knew that she would. She knew there were many people in Camelot who cared deeply for him, but she imagined at a time like this, one could not have too much support.

Her smile and words reassured him that he was not disrupting her, and for this he felt immediately relieved. King Arthur. No matter how many times people said this to him . . . he could not get used to it. The two words sounded as if they should not be said together, but he supposed that this would adjust with time. He noticed her smile slightly fade, and her next words provided explanation for this. "I'm so sorry about your father. Please, if there's anything I can do, you need only to ask." Arthur faintly smiled at her offer. He could not quite express how much he appreciated her presence. He knew that it couldn't have been easy for her travel all this way, with a baby especially, and take out the time to spend the past few days here. He knew how busy she was, how much she had to do back in Gwent. So this, her presence . . . was not something he would ever take for granted. "You being here, and remaining here for the past few days, means more to me than I can say." Especially considering the tensions in their recent past. Their last conversation made in length had sorted out most things between them.
While there was still uncertainty between him and her husband, he was more concerned about his own friendship with Isadora than with the druid's. For that meant more to him than anything. And her being here, showed what a true friend was. He valued her as a close friend, someone that he felt he could trust and someone he held dear to his heart. Especially in a time where he felt he had lost all his family. "It is more than I could ever ask of you," he added, wanting her to know that he was well aware it was not as easy as just coming. For her, it took planning and energy and . . . probably a great deal of convincing to her husband. Not wanting to bring down the joyful news she had of her own, he took a few steps towards her, and therefore, the baby. "May I have an introduction with the newest princess of Gwent?" He asked, his smile less faint, holding a bit more excitement. He was so happy for her. Ecstatic that she had been able to bring something so precious into this world.

Isadora smiled when he assured her that her presence was more than enough, she knew that this must be a very trying time for the young King, but he was handling things very well, all things considered. "Well we couldn't leave before you two had a chance to say hello." She smiled, before she leaned down to pick up the little baby, holding her so that she was facing Arthur, where they could both see one another. Sabina gave a shriek of delight when she was picked up again, for a minute there it almost seemed like she wasn't the center of the universe, and that simply wasn't right.
Once she was settled in her mother's arms, she took the opportunity to take a better look at the almost-as-big-as-daddy-but-not-quite man. Ah, yes, another person to worship and adore her, of course. It was hard work, being so loveable, but someone had to do it. "Arthur, I have the great pleasure of introducing you to Sabina Alison, princess of Gwent. Sabina, this is Arthur Pendragon, the King of Camelot." Isadora smiled, making the overly formal introduction just for the fun of it. Sabina noticed that she seemed pleased about something, and figured that meant Mum was currently extolling her virtues to this fortunate man. An effort worth commending, and so Sabina smiled too, giving a happy giggle. "I think she likes you."

Arthur watched her intently when she picked up Sabina and walked back over to her. Now, Arthur could get a much better look at the precious princess. She was indeed adorable -- this word being a mere understatement. It was practically impossible not to smile when seeing the way the baby grinned so happily; so innocently. He took a few steps towards her as Isadora made the formal introduction. He lowered himself in a formal bow, knowing the young baby would not recognize such gestures . . . not yet. But she would grow accustomed to them as she grew older. "This is the greatest honor a person could have," he said, once again, fully aware that his words would not be processed in her still developing mind. He leaned forward to gently kiss the forehead of the baby. Before leaning back to just look at her.
"She's as beautiful as her mother," he complimented. Not in a flirtatious way of course, but still with sincerity. "She truly is precious Isadora. I am extremely happy for you and your husband." He may not be a fan of her husband, but he had given her such a beautiful gift. And it was clear that he made her happy. Regardless of his feelings towards Alistair, Isadora was still and would forever remain a good friend and ally of his. "I think she likes you." Arthur just smiled at this. "She has excellent judgment then," he said with joking arrogance. "May I be granted permission for the honor to hold her?" He questioned, unsure if she was uncomfortable with the idea. He was just uncertain of when he would get the opportunity again. For it was not exactly easy for her to come visit him, and with him as king, it would not be easy to go for leisurely rides outside of Camelot.

Well of course the man bowed before her, it was no surprise to Sabina, she practically expected it of people. She made a little high-pitched noise to show her approval of the gesture, which turned to a confused gurgle when he leaned in to touch his lips to her forehead, her big blue eyes following him as he got closer. Isadora smiled at Arthur's compliment, of course she thought her baby was the most adorable little thing in the world, but, she had to remind herself, she was somewhat biased. Although she thought Sabina looked more like Alistair than like her, she wasn't going to suggest that to Arthur.
"Why thank you, Arthur." She noticed that he didn't leave Alistiar out of his well-wishes, and she was glad for it. She knew the two men were far from seeing eye to eye, but she was glad the two of them were willing to try to get along for her...and now, for Sabina. Because Isadora wanted her daughter to grow up in a climate of peace, not conflict. She laughed when he said the baby had good judgment. She wasn't certain Sabina's father would agree, but she supposed this would likely just be the first of many men that Sabina might like and her father wouldn't.
Isadora smiled, then nodded when he asked if he could hold her. "Just sit down first," she didn't ask, because it wasn't optional. She was very protective of her baby, and she didn't like to let people hold her while standing until she was sure they could do it without dropping the fragile little girl.

"Just sit down first." Well Arthur wasn't going to argue with that. He would of course comply with whatever direction Isadora gave him, for it was her daughter. And he could only how protective she would be over her. For more than understandable reasons of course. While Arthur knew not what it was to have a child, he knew that he wanted one. Perhaps more than one. And of course, he knew who he wanted to have those children with. He and Guinevère had planned their lives out, but with his promotion of the ranks, that seemingly distant future that they had once spoken about over a year ago, was finally drawing closer. It would not be for a few months, but it was not a matter of years either. Arthur gave a small nod and looked around for a moment, before finding a nearby chair which he just slid a bit closer.
He adjusted his cape so that he would not sit on it and then could seated himself properly. This was not the first time he had held a baby, but it had been a while since he'd done so. Of course he did not believe he would drop her. He wasn't that bad. He just wanted to properly meet the young princess of Gwent. At least amidst all this darkness of losing a father, and magic spreading its evil . . . there was the reminder of cheer and love. Of a new life brought into this world. Not all was bad and seeing how happy his dear friend was to have become a mother, was a contagious feeling. He was so happy for her . . . that among loss and devastation, there was still joviality and laughter. So for now, he just sat, bringing out his arms a bit in further preparation to hold the small bundle of joy.

Once he was seated, Isadora turned the little princess in her arms so that she'd be easier to hand to the king. She knew that Alistair wouldn't be crazy about letting Arthur hold their daughter, but she also didn't care. He'd let Vaughn hold her! VAUGHN! Arthur was infinitely more trustworthy (and less likely to drop her) than that foul brigand! If he hadn't saved Alistair's life so many times, she'd have had him thrown out of the castle, if not simply hanged! But Alistair trusted the man, enough that he'd been adamant that he should be their daughter's godfather. Isadora hated the idea, but...she'd hardly ever seen him fight her so hard for something, so eventually she'd given in. It was important to him.
"Make sure that you support her head," she instructed gently, leaning down to place the baby in his waiting arms. She rearranged his hold so that Sabina's head rested in the crook of his elbow, with his other arm cradling her securely. Once she was satisfied with the king's grip on the child, she backed up a bit....but not too much. Sure, she trusted Arthur, but that trust only went so far when it came to her newborn baby.
Sabina, for her part, was rather curious about it all. She looked up at the big man with wide blue eyes, not sure about this whole 'being held' thing. She was particular about who got to hold her! Or, rather, Mum was. Daddy held her. And the not-Mum with the long yellow hair. And sometimes the man with the scrunchy face who was always in bed. Besides them, only a few had been allowed to hold her. So what made this worshipper so special? She scrutinized him carefully as she pondered on it, gnawing on a finger with her gums thoughtfully. Arthur followed the instructions she gave him. After all, it had been quite some time since he held a baby. He feared dropping her would start a war. So he positioned his arms in accordance to how she passed him the child. Finally, in a comfortable and stable position and hold, he could see the Princess Sabina, looking down at her. He softly smiled, taking in all her features of appearance. Arthur did have to look deep into the druid's eyes to know that Sabina had her father's. Yet, it was clear that she also held many of Isadora's features. It made him so desperately want his own child . . . to hold such a miracle and blessing in his arms. To know that a life was created from the love two people shared, was truly a beautiful thing. It made his heart swell with so much happiness for his dear friend; that she was able to embrace the joys of motherhood. That she first gained a husband who made her happy, and then a daughter to further grace her life.
He knew as a royal, it was rare to find such genuine love in a marriage. For it was more about politics. But he was so happy that Isadora had found that. Just as Arthur found his own love that he too would one day marry. "Princess Sabina," he said softly, ever so gently and carefully rocking her back and forth while seated, so that she would not grow too bored or restless staying in one position. "Your father must be overjoyed as well," he said, knowing that King Alistair was not well. That he must have been so happy to have remained alive long enough to hold at least his first grandchild in his arms. Something that Arthur's own father would never have the opportunity to do. But of course, that did not hinder Arthur's joviality for her own father being able to remain alive to see his granddaughter.

Isadora smiled at the image of Arthur holding the baby, as he gazed down at her wonderingly. She always thought it was kind of funny, to see such large men holding such a tiny little thing with such reverence, not to mention adorable. Not that she would say that. She had learned from Alistair that apparently, men did not like to be called cute. It was hard for her sometimes, especially since Sabina had been born, and Alistair doted on her so much that it sometimes made her head hurt trying not to comment.
Her smile faded, however, when Arthur mentioned her father, reminded of when her father had held Sabina for the first time...and called her Dora. Then he'd asked where his wife was. He was becoming unhinged in time, slowly but surely, and it hurt so much when he didn't recognize his own daughter anymore. But she only let her true feelings take hold on her face for a moment, before she forced a smile, and a hurried response. "Of course! Everyone is positively smitten with her." She needed to change the subject. Fortunately, with a baby in the room, adult conversations took a backseat.
Sabina looked up unabashedly into the yellow-haired-man's eyes, blinking often and making a slight cooing noise. She still wasn't sure what was so special about him, and she needed to find out. She'd have to investigate the issue. Without hesitation, she reached a tiny little hand up towards his face, grabbing for anything that gave her purchase. And that something happened to be King Arthur's ear, which she pulled on mercilessly with a grip that belied the size of her tiny paws.

"Of course! Everyone is positively smitten with her." Arthur smiled upon hearing this, not the least bit surprised. "As they should be. For it is impossible not to be smitten with her," he said with truth. She was so small, so precious. And he couldn't be more happy for the family that Isadora was creating. When Sabina looked up at him curiously, and then grabbed his ear, Arthur gave a slight chuckle as his head was turned to the side. His ear trapped in the girl's tiny palms. "Do we owe this strength to your mother or father?" Arthur asked the little girl, well aware that she was in capable of answering. He slowly brought his hand to hers, and very gently releasing her hold on his ear, knowing that it must be slightly red. He instantly replaced his finger, so that she would still have something to grab on to.
Though he knew that a finger was only going to keep her interest for so long. Until she found something else that intrigued her. He looked down at her, still smiling though with a slightly raised eyebrow as if trying to determine the answer to his own question. "Your mother," he concluded, his words teasing to both princesses. "Definitely your mother," he added as he sneaked a glance at Isadora with a bit of a cheeky smile before returning his gaze to the young baby. For it was impossible to keep his gaze off of her.

Isadora smiled with genuine pleasure when Arthur agreed with her. "Don't let her papa hear you talking like that. He's a bit overprotective." Hadn't he mentioned something about a nunnery? And after he'd criticized her own father for letting her be raised by nuns. She didn't think that he was serious...at least, she hoped not. But that was an argument they could have when Sabina was a little bit older.
When Arthur spoke to Sabina, she made a high-pitched noise that might have qualified as an answer, if it had been even remotely intelligible. Despite her best efforts to maintain her hold on his ear, he managed to pry himself free, but she gripped his finger tightly, making a happy noise that was halfway between a coo and a giggle. Isadora smiled at Arthur's words, giving a slight chuckle as he indulged Sabina. When he supplied his own answer, she laughed out loud.
"You watch yourself, Arthur Pendragon! Or I might have to use my amazonian strength on you." She warned him, also teasing, raising her eyebrow and pursing her lips to make her threat more...intimidating. Not that the Princess of Gwent was particularly known for her ability to intimidate people, but there was a first time for everything!
