Gwaine had never been this far south before. Well, when he’d left home, deciding to spend his life as a nomad, he’d never really imagined he would get this far, no matter what direction his feet took him in. It had been days since he had eaten a proper meal, and he wasn’t even sure why he had pressed on so furiously; he supposed his curiosity had gotten the better of him once and for all. Jesu, it was so warm. Gwaine had never been in weather that was so warm before, he could feel the sweat running off his face and gathering on his shirt. He was carrying most of his things in his arms and on his back, as it was too heavy to wear anything but his thin shirt, trousers and shoes. Even that felt like too much. The sun was burning down on his skin, on reflection this hadn’t been his best idea, and he should probably turn back, and head back to a kingdom he knew better. However, this was a new land, and Gwaine’s curiosity often did get the better of him. He wanted to see what there was out here for him to see. After all, there was no reason for him to go rushing back to Caerleon, or Lot’s kingdom, or even Mercia. He wasn’t wanted anywhere anymore, and for a young man that was a hard concept to grasp, but one he was learning to live with all the same.
More and more he was starting to shrug his situation off, and make the best of a bad situation. It was starting to become his way. Gwaine had begun to find happiness in the more simple things in life, from the sun, to the feel of a woman’s lips against his after weeks of wandering. It was a simpler way of living, given how normal his life had been with his family back in Caerleon. He liked it though, he preferred it like this, because he had seen things that no one else could have hoped to see if they had just lived the normal noble lifestyle.
His thoughts had helped take Gwaine’s mind off the seeing heat a little, but only a little. There wasn’t really any escaping the seeing heat. He wondered how people lived like this. There was too little rain, and too much sun for his liking. However, he bet that a nice tankard of ale would be sweeter here and now rather than in the depths of winter back home. Up ahead, Gwaine could see a small party up ahead, it looked as if they were having a picnic. Though there was a lot of grandeur, it appeared there was only one woman who the majority of attention was focussed on. Gwane assumed she was someone important, but he had never been one to care much about status. “Is this a beautiful woman before me?” He asked, cocking an easy grin, “Or has the heat finally got to me?”
