Beyond the clear glass castle windows, Mithian could begin to see the beginnings of a new day, her second in Camelot. Across the room, Morgana had fallen asleep, slumped against the table. As much as she wanted to hate the woman, to fear her, to despise her, Mithian couldn't but worry for her.
So many people spoke of how Morgana had once been beautiful, strong and a being of light within Camelot's walls. What could have gone so wrong? The woman Mithian saw before her now - even without the affects of the aging spell, was not beautiful, strong nor light. In fact it seemed as if Morgana had no light in her at all. Mithian thought the light had gone out of her eyes. It seemed now that nothing remained in her heart except ice ...
But Mithian's mother and her father - even though it hurt to think of her father and what Odin might be doing to him - had always taught her to not immediately see the worst in people. Although, it was proving difficult for her now. Why did Morgana do the things she did? Why would she slaughter the people of Nemeth just to get to Mithian and her father? And in turn, to Arthur? Why would Morgana - why would anyone wish harm against Arthur?
Power. And the want for power. Her father had said this was the downfall of all men.
Mithian shifted in her bed, watching Morgana, trying to see if there was something - anything - to show her that Morgana was more of the person people used to talk about and not the person who she saw now, ready to manipulate people and use their loved ones against them.
Perhaps it was the way Morgana had curled herself in her chair, maybe it was the way she seemed so frail but there was something almost childlike about Morgana, now Mithian looked closer.
Mithian wondered if there was something, if anything, she could do to help Morgana.
Then she remembered how Morgana had attacked her city, had manipulated her into lying to Arthur and was now holding her father's life over her head so that she would betray her friends.
Mithian looked away.
