Guinevère was moving quickly around her home, making sure everything was perfect! Tonight would would tell her big brother about Arthur's 'question' and her 'answer' and they would decide what to do with their home. As much as she would love to keep it, she knew that seeing it go unused would be wasteful. She wanted a family to live here! Yet she would not do anything with it, until she spoke to Elyan.
Even still, the house was not what excited her! It was Artur asking her to be his wife!! She was going to be his wife!! FINALLY! Everything she and he had waited for! Everything they had wanted would be theirs! She could not wait to be able to do something as simple as hold his hand while walking in the market. Or breakfasting with him! They had spoken of their plans some, and soon would finalize them, but tonight she would tell her brother and ask him if he would give her away, by walking her down the aisle as their father would have done. She had cooked supper, Elyan's favorite!, and had everything ready for his arrival!

It hadn't been a particularly hard day's training. Arthur had been surprisingly well...cheerful. He'd taken it easy on them which was an extremely rare occurrence. Actually Elyan didn't think it had ever happened before. It made him curious but at the time he'd chosen not to question it; he didn't want to jinx it. Arthur had let them off early and he knew he wasn't the only one of the knights who was shocked about that. He could just ask Gwen, she'd probably know what on earth could make Arthur that happy and where the knights could get more of it. He chuckled to himself. It wasn't very late, the sun was just beginning to set and Elyan took a moment to appreciate the sight before heading over to their home.
Gwen had told him earlier in the day to go to their house after he finished training with Arthur and the knights. It wasn't a particularly odd request, but what had been odd was how cheerful she'd been when he'd seen her, as in more happy than usual. She had been acting similarly to the way Arthur had been which made him curious. What was going on? He'd have to ask her when he got there. He finally made it to the lower towns where the house they'd lived in since they were children was. He opened the door, without the need to knock and was about to take off his cloak when he smelt food before he finally saw it. It was chicken soup seasoned with herbs that could only be found in the forests on the border the city. It was his favourite and grabbed all his attention making him almost forget what he'd wanted to ask her...almost. "Gwen, you shouldn't have." He grinned at her. "But thank you anyway." His grin hadn't subsided, it had been a while since he'd eaten his favourite meal, and his little sister always made it just the way he liked it, the way their mother used to make it. "What is this all for?" There had to be some sort of special occasion.

"Gwen, you shouldn't have." She looked up when Elyan walked in and smiled brightly! "Elyan!" She greeted, and walked over to him to place a kiss on his cheek because her mood was wonderful today. "I wanted too!" "But thank you anyway." There was never a NEED for him to thank her for cooking for him but their father had raised them to have manners and a thank you was always welcome to hear! "I wanted tonight to be special!"
"What is this all for?" For! She grinned and could not even speak from her need to keep smiling. "Because I have something to talk to you about! . . . And a question to ask you." Because after she told him Arthur asked her to be his WIFE! she would ask him if he would would take their father's place and give her away. "First let us settle in for supper, and then I will tell you my wonderful news!" That she would be Arthur Pendragon's wife! His queen! . . . Her big brother's boss in a way, though she would never hold it over it.

He grinned in return at his little sister who was especially jovial tonight. He didn't want to question it though, but his curiosity had peaked. Not to say that she wasn't usually happy but today was different and he wanted to know why. He gave her a kiss on her cheek as well in return and just smiled. It seemed it was contagious, but he didn't mind. Seeing his sister this happy made him happy, as sappy as that sounded but it was true. After everything she'd been through she could still begin the day with a smile on her face. She truly was the strongest person he knew, so of course seeing her this happy made his very heart happy with her.
When she answered his question his curiosity only increased if that were possible. So she had two things to tell him and one was a question. He thought about it for a moment. It was obviously something good since it made her so happy, but nothing came to mind. Before he could dwell on it further she spoke again. He decided he wouldn't pry...yet. But she must know how curious he could get and it wouldn't be long before he'd bombard her with questions. "I hope you tell me soon because I would really like to know what's got my sister smiling like we're in the heavens," he chuckled. It was something their mother used to say. 'Smile everyday like you're in the heavens.'
He took a seat at the table they'd eaten at so many times for so many years, only this time it was just them. He looked down at the food at closed his eyes as he took in the wonderful smell of his sister's cooking. "You could be a cook in the castle you know," he teased. "Even if you only served this I'm sure the entire court would gladly sing for more." He grinned. She made it just like their mother did, which is why he loved it so much. No doubt any noble would be lucky just to get a taste.

"I hope you tell me soon because I would really like to know what's got my sister smiling like we're in the heavens," Guinevère knew the expression he used, it was their mother's. Elyan knew their mother better then Guinevère, as their mother died when she before she could know her. It was through Elyan and their father that she got to know her mother, as far as likes and loves and hopes. She hoped that her mother was proud of her. Even more so with so many changes in her children--Elyan a knight fighting for king and kingdom, and Guinevère . . . . a queen.
"You could be a cook in the castle you know," Elyan said, drawing her out of thoughts of their mother and making her smile all the brighter. "Even if you only served this I'm sure the entire court would gladly sing for more." He teased and Guinevère knew that she could never cook for the court anymore. She would do nothing to cause gossip about her and her husband. While she could not just sit back and enjoy the things nobles did, she would try to meet him half way.
Guinevère would not be just his hostess, but she would stand beside him and help him make this kingdom a better place. "Arthur actually asked me to take on a different role for the court." She told him, reaching over with the hand that wore Arthur's ring on it to rest over Elyan's. It was her final hint to him, to what had her in such a wonderful mood. The ring that Arthur normally wore, that was his mothers. It now was on Guinevère's finger, as she would now be his queen.
"He asked me to be his wife."

He ate a spoonful of the delicious soup and smiled at the taste. It may not have been something served from the palace kitchens but that's what made it so much better. It wasn't just the taste Elyan loved although that was wonderful, it was the memories it brought. Memories of his family sitting at the very table he was sitting at now. His parents may not be with him now, but he'd always have his sister, his Gwen. "Arthur actually asked me to take on a different role for the court." He put his hand down and tore his thoughts away from memories. "Oh?" He curiously looked up at her. "And what position is that?" Maybe she would move further up in the castle, instead of being a maid. Maybe Arthur would make her a lady. The thought made him smile.
He took her hand in his when she reached across and continued to smile warmly at her, still unaware to what was making her so cheerful today. Confusion masked his eyes however when he felt something odd on her finger. Elyan looked down at her hand to see a ring on her finger. It was a beautiful ring but that wasn't what caught his eye and caused him to stare at it. It was the position of the ring that made Elyan stop; the ring was on the finger meant only for an engagement ring, a wedding ring. He finally tore his eyes away from it and looked at Gwen, his mouth open in shock. He could hardly speak, but Gwen confirmed his suspicions.
"He asked me to be his wife." Elyan could only stare at his sister for several seconds until he was finally able to speak. "He...what?" Elyan stood up abruptly all thoughts of food and dinner purged from his mind at the news. He just went straight for his sister, pulled her up from her chair and hugged her for all he was worth. "CONGRATULATIONS!" He practically shouted their small house down. When he finally let go of her, all he could down was helplessley grin...then he hugged her again muttering, "my sister's getting married, my sister's getting married," over and over again more to himself than to Gwen, laughing while he hugged her and spun her around off her feet. He'd known of course when he realised Arthur and Gwen were in love that he'd eventually ask for her hand, but that didn't make it any less surreal. When he put her down eventually, so many questions bubbled in his mind but he chose one after just grinning at her for a few more seconds. "So, when did he ask you?"

"CONGRATULATIONS!" Elyan yelled, and Guinevère found herself laughing softly at his reaction. Thought not quite as much as when he hurried over and lifted her up! Pinning her around before letting her small feet find the floor once again! She felt so happy! "So, when did he ask you?" He finally asked, after a moment of just smiling at her! "Last night, I was making a bed in one of the guest chambers, and he came up behind me and blindfolded me."
"He took me here . . . . candles everywhere . . . " It had been romantic and wonderful and perfect! She had felt so happy then but now the feeling was so much grander and larger then happy! Everything they had wanted for so many years would be theirs! She and Arthur could begin a family! "We've not told anyone yet." Merlin knew because he helped Arthur get her home ready, and his Uncle knew out of respect. Elyan was the first person she told.
Because he was her family. "I told Arthur that we might walk up to see him after we supper together." This would be one of her and Elyan's last suppers just them, and she wasn't even sad about it. For not instead of just her and Elyan it could be the three of them. For Elyan and Arthur would be brothers in a truer since, for her marriage would bind them. Besides, there was something she wanted to ask her brother tonight, and she thought she knew the answer but it was time they talked about their parents. For now however, she wanted to just enjoy the moment.
