She was gone. There was no trace of her to be found anywhere. Morgause had taken her and Arthur should not have left her come close to Morgana. He knew he would not be able to rest until he found her, but right now, he had to make sure everyone else was alright. Once the knights fell, everyone started to wake up. Arthur was relieved to see his father awake. His knights were quickly rising and following him around. Merlin was fine, so he did not have to worry about that. There was one other person that Arthur needed to make sure was alright for she without a doubt would be utterly confused about what was going on.
Arthur raced to Morgana's chambers where he remembered laying Guinevère on the bed. He prayed she was alright, and that she, like the others, had just been in a deep slumber. Nothing more than that. The exhaustion Arthur felt was not slowing him down for there was too much to do for him to sleep. He ran through the halls, still clad in his armor. He hoped that by some miracle, Morgana would be there with Guinevère; that both woman would be safe. But he knew that was wishing for too much. For now, he would ensure Gwen's safety. "Guinevère!" He called desperately as he entered the room without even knocking. Please God let her be alright! He could not stand losing two women he loved.
Setting: Morgana's chambers Time of Day: Mid-day Timeline: Shortly after Gwen wakes up in The Fires Of Idirsholas Tag: Guinevère

Guinevère opened her eyes and felt her self confused. Why was she in Morgana's bed? Last thing she recalled was . . . falling! She sat up and looked around, noticing were she had dropped somethings she had been carrying. She so had fallen and someone had picked her up. Who would have picked up a servant and put her in the King's ward's bed?The only one she could think of was Arthur but he was gone a a deadly mission to Idirsholas.
Guinevère slowly stood up feeling her head ache. She must had hit it when she fell, on the floor. Guinevère began picking up the things she dropped while trying to recall why she had been so sleepy. Where was Morgana? 'Guinevère!' She heard Arthur call her name as he came rushing in and she smiled. He was looking for her, but her smile faded with in moments at the look on his face. Something wasn't right. "Arthur!" She walked (quickly) over to him, placing her hand on his arm. Knowing the touch wasn't allowed but he seemed to need a comforting hand.

When he saw her standing there, smiling -- though it did not last long -- he felt a massive wave of relief. She was alright. Thank god! He did not care if they were not allowed to be closer then they currently were, he pulled her into his arms, embracing her in a hug and making sure not to hold her too tight for his armor was heavy. He had failed Morgana, he was not going to fail in ensuring Gwen's safety too.
He closed his eyes for a brief moment, knowing that he could not hold her like this for too long -- no matter how much he wanted to -- because anyone could walk through that open door right now. He pulled away so that he could see her face and put both of his gloved hands on each of her cheeks. "Are you alright?" he asked, searching for any sign of an injury. His voice was a mixture of relief, stress, uncertainty, fear . . . an array of emotions that he could not control very well.

Arthur pulled her into a hug, and Guinevère wrapped her arms around him, for the brief few moments that they could steal before he pulled her way. When he did however, he placed his hands on her face. The gloves were warn and oddly comforting against her skin. "Fine, Arthur, I am very much ok. Confused, but fine." She spoke trying to reassure him. What was going on?
She moved one hand over his gloved on as if to hold him there. "What is going on? I felt so tired, and I must have fallen sleep standing up, but when I awoke I was in Morgana's bed." She noticed he looked worried, and was dirty and tired. "Are you, ok Arthur? What happened while you were gone?"

He was still worried about her. He was worried that there was going to be some weird aftermath from Morgause's spell, as he still did not know why he left so suddenly, or what persuaded her to retract her attack on Camelot. Merlin didn't know either. Morgana was unconscious. And the three of them were the only potential ones who could have answered such questions. Still, Arthur could not focus on that right now; there were more important things. For starters, having to explain to Gwen what happened to her best friend. Oh dear. How was he possibly going to do that?
He left one hand on her cheek, and moved his other hand on her shoulder, getting ready to comfort her since everyone was distraught over the disappearance of Morgana. "A great deal has happened Guinevère. Camelot was under some sort of spell, cast by the sorceress Morgause. Everyone who was here suddenly fell into a deep sleep. Merlin and I returned to find everyone unconscious." He assumed that she knew how she had ended up on Morgana's bed. "There was truth to the legend of the Knights of Medhir." He paused, still wondering how they collapsed for he knew it was impossible to kill them. "But she is gone now, and the kingdom has broken from her spell." He did not however saying that everything was alright now, because it was not. But . . . Guinevère was safe. She was alive. And that counted for a great deal to Arthur.

Guinevère noticed he had not answered her. This was not a promising start to this conversation, and they fact that he keep touching her was worse. "You moved me to the bed?" She asked trying to see if it was Arthur who had thought so much of a servant to do such, "And she stopped her attack on the city? Did you stop her?" Arthur always saved the day. Guinevère wondered if their was more to the story. Arthur seemed to be on edge about something so something was wrong. Guinevère could feel it. It was easy to see in his face, and more so in his actions. Guinevère felt her self grow frightened.
"Arthur, are you hurt? Is everything alright? Somethings wrong, I can see it in your face. Tell me." She moved her hands to his cheeks and tried to give him a smile, but it came out nervous and strained. Guinevère knew they should not be standing here as such, Morgana could come in at any moment and they would be exposed. Morgana would keep this from Uther, yes, but it would surely shock her right down to her toes.

He nodded, answering her first question. "I was not going to let you lie on the cold floor." He did not care if she was under a spell and so would not notice the discomfort. He did not want to see her just lying there on the ground. Did he stop her. He knew he did not have the power to stop her. "I don't know. She just . . .left." With Morgana but he failed to mention that part, although he knew that he would not be able to put off telling her much longer.
Her gentle touch was comforting, but not nearly enough considering the guilt Arthur was carrying with him. It could not be on his father's conscience; his father had fallen victim to Morgause as well. Arthur was awake; he should have done something. He failed. He failed miserably. He took her hands, lowering them from her face and his own. He just stood there, holding them in his. He looked down at their joint hands, unable to look at her when admitting such a horrible thing he had allowed. "Guinevère," he began, his voice sad and defeated. "Before . . . " He took a deep breath, gathering the courage. "Morgause left, she . . . took Morgana with her. And we, can not find her, anywhere." He looked back at Gwen when he finished revealing the truth, waiting for her reaction, dreading it.

Guinevère at first did not understand. When she did understand she couldn't make her self think a single thought. She just stood there, staring at him and grasping on to his hands as if they were her life line. "I--" She tried to speak, "I don't understand. She took her? Came here for her?" Was that what all this was from? Had the witch attacked Camelot for Morgana. Guinevère knew Morgana had seemed stressed these past few weeks and withdrawn but had that something to do with it?
Surely not. No, if Morgana knew something might happen she would have told Guinevère, right? "Why?" Was she safe? Un-hurt? Uther was going to go mad knowing this happened! Guinevère felt fear for Morgana and the people of Camelot. How many innocents would pay for one witch's actions? Uther would go though as many of them as he could while seeking 'justice'. Guinevère looked up at Arthur, before stepping closer and laying her head on his chest, needed the comfort he could give her in this moment. "Dose the King know?"

Arthur could not answer any of her questions. He only knew the answer to the last one. It was not a good situation at all. When she rested her head on his chest . . . he wrapped his arms around her once more. He did not want to admit it, but he needed comfort to. He had to appear that he was fine, that he was ready to lead the knights, to continue to ensure Camelot's safety . . . but he was absolutely distraught. And the fact that Guinevère was here, in this position, whether she knew it or not, was consoling him deeply.
"I wish I knew more," he told her, his voice still holding that defeated tone though he tried to control it. "When I saw her, lying on the floor unconscious, Morgause told me to stay away from her and took her." He paused, unable to shake a feeling about how strange that was. "I know this sounds strange but . . . it looked almost as if she was trying to protect her, rather than kidnap her." It sounded ridiculous, but that gut feeling was the only thing that gave Arthur hope that Morgana was still alive.
And then his father's name was brought up. Another sore point, for hearing Uther blame himself for what happened, made Arthur feel more of a failure. It should not have been his father protecting her; it should have been Arthur. "He does. He's just as devastated. I doubt any of us will rest until she is found and brought home safely. I promise Guinevère, I will find her." He knew this could not be easy for her either . . . she was so close to Morgana.

"I know you will." She replied in the same tone as he had sued to promise her he would find her. "No one is a better knight then you Arthur, you have done so many impossible things. I have faith we will get us past this." Not use Morgana, but Camelot. She feared for the city under Uther's wrath after this.He was vengeful and would kill before taking the time the judgment fairly. Arthur was Camelot's only hope at this point. "I recall the last time she came here. This Morgouse."
"She was very kind to Morgana. Gave her a gift that Morgana seemed to treasure. Maybe she see's her as a friend, and will not hurt her? When you find her you, I believe she will be unhurt. Frightened, and missing home but unhurt." That was what Guinevère had to believe in order to live with these next few days until Morgana was found. That she would be safe. "She will fuss at you for taking so long. Even if you find her in an hour, you know she will." Guinevère tried to sound teasing but the stress was there. She knew she had to help Arthur, and she hoped this reminder of things before would give him hope.
He seemed to need it.

Arthur heard others flatter him and admire his skills . . . but when Gwen said it, it was more honest, more genuine, and he did not feel that same pressure to have to be someone he was not, just to satisfy everyones expectations. Her encouragement was more motivational, rather than add to his stress. "I will do whatever it takes to bring her home." he repeated, reassuring himself, just as much as Gwen. He did not want to admit that he was not sure he could face what he was up against. It was sorcery, and magic always seemed to have the upper-hand. Then again, he was still alive, still standing, still fighting. Clearly, he must be doing something right.
The last time she had come here, she defeated him in battle, embarrassing him. But that was nothing compared to what she did to him later. He looked at Gwen, surprised by her next words. "Wait, she gave something to Morgana?" Morgana failed to mention that! What if that contributed to the reason Morgana was the only one awake? But . . .why would she lie about it? Arthur knew Morgana had not been herself recently, but he did not know just how much. He had assumed she was just ill, suffering from nightmares more severely than before. But no . . . there was more to this.
"Guinevère, what did Morgause give her? Whatever it was, she is not to be trusted. She is far too manipulative for kindness to be a trait of hers." He was still very bitter over what she had done; Arthur had almost killed his father because of her trickery. He wanted to think that he would find Morgana. . . that things would happen exactly how Gwen predicted, and that everyone would go back to the way things were. But life was never that simple. Things never happened that easily. There were always complications, and Arthur feared what those were in this particular case.

Guinevère looked up at Arthur but made sure not to pull away in form, for she wanted his arms around her. "Morgana was having nightmares, awful ones. The sleeping potions were not working and she was very tired. Morgouse gave her a bracelet, and told Morgana it would help her sleep. At first Morgana declined the gift but the next time I saw her she was wearing it and seemed to like it very much." Guinevère wondered if that was important or not but deiced to much information was better then not enough in this case.
"There was talk, after you came back from your visit to her. No one knew what happened but they said your were angry, and you locked your self in the dinning room with your father. She seemed to enjoying making Camelot attack it's self. Whatever she has done to you, or to Morgana, she has planned it out."

Guinevère was right. Arthur had not thought of it that way before, as he had no prior knowledge of the bracelet. But there was a bigger picture here. Something much larger was happening, and he feared Morgause was not quite finished with what she tried to start. "Guinevère, did Morgana ever take the bracelet off? What did it look like?" He was trying to remember if she had it on during the time of the spell, but he had been far too preoccupied to notice a seemingly ordinary piece of jewelry.
"The only reason Merlin and I were not effected by the spell was because we were out of the city at the time. But Morgana was here, and she was not even slightly affected. Merlin said she was given a strong potion by Gaius, and that was what kept her awake. But now . . . after hearing about this bracelet . . . I wonder if Morgause intentionally kept her awake, for whatever reason." It did not make sense. Was Morgana Morgause's victim or ally? Surely Morgana had no knowledge of this. Arthur would not believe that she would lie to him, and betray him in such a way.
Arthur thought back to that incident, where he had almost murdered his father. It was not one of his proudest moments. Thank goodness Merlin was there to talk some sense into him! "Yes, she used magic on me to make me believe something which was false." The only one who had really known what happened that day was Merlin, Uther and of course Morgause. But Arthur felt compelled to tell Gwen.

"No, Morgana claimed it helped her sleep, and never took it off. It was silver, and on her right wrist. I didn't see it very close. Morgana had been distant for quite some time. I didn't feel I had the right to ask to see it." Guinevère still thought back to the night Morgana yelled at her. Ever since that moment, she had felt their friendship slipping some and did not know how to save it. It was heart breaking and Guinevère didn't know how to go about changing it.
"She make you think something was real?" Guinevère thought for a moment, "I want to ask you want happened, but I am not sure if I can." She wasn't sure where the boundaries of their 'relationship' were. What she could ask for and what she could not after all that had passed. She wanted to know more, to know everything and she wanted him to want to tell her everything. However she wasn't sure if he wanted the same. She was afraid to ask. "You don't have to tell me. I know whatever happened Uther made everyone swear never to speak of it again."

Ironic. It helped her sleep, and yet she was the only one awake. Arthur did not understand. Maybe it had nothing to do with the bracelet, but he still did not like the idea of Morgause giving her anything. "In what way has she been distant?" He asked, wondering if her relationship with Morgana had changed. He had seen her less and less, but it was also because Arthur himself had been rather busy. Gwen would know first hand just how much Morgana changed, since she spent majority of every day with her, and they had known each other since they were young.
Arthur hated talking about it, but at the same time, he actually wanted to tell Gwen. He trusted her, he valued her opinion. He reluctantly released her hands and went to the door, closing it. He did not want others to hear what he was about to tell her. It had been sworn to secrecy, even if it was not true. It had been a horrible thing to accuse his father of, and he did not want the entire kingdom to know that Prince Arthur tried to murder his father, the King of Camelot. He took her hand once more, leading back to Morgana's bed where he expected her to sit, as he pulled up a chair and positioned it next to the bed so that they could be sitting face to face. He was still holding on to her hand, looking down at it. "First tell me about Morgana." He wanted to know about how Morgana was changing, because something told him it was not for the better, and it was effecting Gwen.

He was going to tell her?! Guinevère watched as Arthur closed the door and decided if they were going to have privacy then she was going to try to make him relax some too. This was stressful enough and he would be pushing him self for the next few hours or days to the maximum. She wanted him to rest some before hand. Guinevère was sure if he rested now, it might be his last chance for a while, and it would help him keep a clear head later.
As he lead her to the bed, she began speaking, trying to keep most the stress and concern from her voice. The only reason Guinevère was not worse was because she truly believed this witch of the old would not hurt her mistress, and that Arthur would find her. Still her hands shook, and she felt very worried. Guinevère did not sit as she keep talking, but in stead went and got Morgana's washing bowl and dipped a cloth in it. She rang it out and came to kneel before Arthur, as she reached up and began gently cleaning the sweat, grim and dirt from his face.
"Do you recall when the druids broke into the castle, and someone stole the crystal? Morgana was edgy during and right after that. I-i-i should have said something, I had assumed it was because she had been kidnapped by them once before. She seemed afraid of sorts. I was helping her prepare for bed and she yelled at me, to leave. I thought it very odd, Morgana usually likes me to stay and talk. After that she become more with drawn. She didn't confide in me, and seemed to grew angry with . . . . " With Uther. Even worried for the druid that Arthur had caught and brought back. But Morgana disagreed with Uther's politics on magic and Guinevère assumed that was all it was.

Arthur had to admit that the cool cloth felt extremely refreshing on his warm skin. After fighting the spell for so long, the wet cloth as a good feeling. He listened attentively to her explanation. The part that stood out the most was when Gwen said Morgana had yelled at her. She raised her voice at her best friend? Arthur knew Morgana well enough to know that she rarely yelled at anyone. Even him. They teased each other constantly, yes . . . but to actually yell at someone like Gwen . . . especially when he knew that she did not deserve it. Gwen was not the kind of person who provoked people in any way, and who's company was not often rejected . . . especially by Morgana.
"She yelled at you?" He questioned, still unable to believe she would do such a thing. There was a lot he was learning about Morgana. "Who did she grow more and more angry with?" He asked curiously. "Guinevère, it does not sound like her to be so upset, especially with you. I need to know every detail that you can provide me with. Do you think perhaps she was under some sort of spell?" What if the night someone stole the crystal, they had cast her under a spell. What Arthur could not understand was why. What could have possibly been their motives for doing such a thing. Why Morgana? If they could influence someone so easily why not Uther . . . or even himself, for they were the rulers of Camelot, it would make sense if one wanted to see the kingdom under another ruler.

"I---" She thought for a moment, was she moved the cloth from his face to his neck, and the places she could reach not hidden from his armor. "I don't know. Did Merlin say he heard voices in Morgana's room that night?" She asked, hoping that was helpful and not a reminder of how Merlin had caused Arthur to burst in on a sleeping Morgana. "Maybe he was right, maybe they have made her sympathize to their cause?" Guinevère wonder if that sounded like Morgana had betrayed Camelot. "Morgana is not easily tricked, but what if they used spells to make her more willing to help them? She was already against your father's politics on magic."
"I was straightening her bed a few nights later and she told me to leave her. I wasn't done, so I said I was almost done. She demand I leave her. I know that not Morgana, she would never do such a thing. I had assumed she was tired, or stressed over the break in. Maybe I should have spoken up sooner so we could have stopped this before It started. I am so sorry for not doing so." Guinevère had not answered his other question, not wanting to admit the turning feelings Morgana had displayed to the king.

Arthur remembered that night. He had trusted Merlin with that, and then just thought he was an idiot . . . but now . . . maybe there was indeed truth to it. "I just don't understand, why her? If they were able to put spells on someone why not me?" He wasn't saying that he was of more importance, but he was the future king. If they were going to focus their efforts on getting to someone . . . why not him? "Morgana made no secret of how she was against my father's laws, some of them, but do you really think she is under the influence of a powerful spell?" Arthur hated that. It was going to be all the more difficult to find her . . . and bring her back. "I just do not understand that if the druids want something to do with her . . . and Morgause seems to as well . . . are they perhaps working together."
Arthur still could not believe she was so short with Gwen. But if she was under the influence of magic, then it would indeed explain quite a bit. He took her hand in his, lowering it from his neck, and just holding it. "Guinevère listen to me, this is not at all your fault. You have nothing to apologize for, nor are you to take any blame for this." It was his fault, and he knew that . . . and he knew that everyone else must be thinking that. "My father and I will not rest until she is found. Once everything is sorted out here, I am going out to search for her. Hopefully, we can find a way to rid her of whatever dark magic is influencing her." He paused, feeling the need to add this next comment. "I am just so glad you are safe. I don't know what I would have done otherwise." Maybe it was too much to say, but he had experienced the fear of possibly never seeing her awake again.

Arthur had made a few very good points but Guinevère did not know how to reply to them. She didn't know what to say when it came to trying to know the minds of people with evil plans. She had troubling understanding people who did things just to hurt others. Revenge, and vengeance were very hard for her to process. It made you no better then ones you took them out on, and Guinevère was not going to stoop to anyone's level just to make them feel worse and give them a reason to come at her again. It was a never ending circle if you played the game. A life for a life only ended when everyone was dead.
"I should have spoken up, and not just tired to help her past it. If I had, you might have been more prepared for the attack." When he spoke of being glad she was alright she settled down on her knees before him and dropped the rag to the floor. "I am fine." She assured him, "Other then being worried for you both, I am having no lasting effects of whatever spell hit the city." She wasn't going to tell him she hit her head. She didn't want him worrying over something that he could not help. "What do you think the king will do?" She asked, "He sees magic in a few places and he tired to purge the towns. When he finds magic has attacked the city and stolen his ward . . . . . Arthur I fear for what he might do."
