Arthur sounded groggy, of course Merlin hadn’t expected any less. After all he’d almost been killed the previous evening by a lunatic with a voice who could take even the toughest of men down. “Did you sleep well?” Merlin asked, trying to make conversation. He knew the prince wouldn’t even answer this but it was worth trying to be polite and getting through the long day that he knew was ahead.
"Pour me some water,"
Merlin looked around for the pitcher, performing a 360 degree turn of scanning the room before realising it was…by Arthur’s bed?! He nodded and headed over and poured the water out, before holding out his hand for the prince to take the cup. If this had been the infamous first meeting between them again, Merlin would have gladly enjoyed dumping the water over Arthur’s head. Now that was out of the question.
“Anything else…sire?” he asked. Silly question really, of course there would be. He half expected Arthur to have a full of duties that he was expected to undertake. Most of them being unpleasant – a bit like Arthur then. Merlin was going to be having words with the dragon. He had to protect and serve this idiot? All at the same time? Talk about multitasking – Merlin knew he couldn’t even pat his head and rub his stomach at the same time, let alone having to take on something as tough as serving Arthur.
If he didn’t survive the day then oh well – he wasn’t sure who would be more pleased. Him or Arthur.

The first day –the dreaded first day of having to suffer Prince Prat! Merlin didn’t know how he would survive it. Why had he gone and allowed himself to push the prince out of the firing line! Why didn’t he just let him get knifed? Well, it was all because he was the one side of a coin! And Arthur was the other! Of all people! Another reason was because Merlin was too nice to actually allow the prince to die whilst he just stood there with his hands over his ears (to muffle out the shrieking of the newly deceased Lady Helen of course). In the dragon's words, it was his ‘destiny’. If this was destiny then Merlin didn’t know why he’d struck the worst end of the deal. There hadn't even been a deal come to think of it!
Managing to drag himself from his bed he dressed and headed into where he’d expect to find Gauis tattling over books and whatnot at that time of the morning. Instead he was met with an empty room and vial of some disgusting looking green liquid that had a smell to match. Merlin decided to ask Gauis later about that, but made sure to move it away to a safer place, where it couldn’t be mistaken for some sort of drink. Then again, with a smell like that, how could you mistake it for anything?
“Gauis?” Merlin called out, just incase his guardian was swinging from a ladder up the bookshelf somewhere, like he’d been doing when he’d first arrived.
No answer. He was out then.
Merlin didn’t even have time to eat, as he was late enough already. Not a good start. Then again would Arthur even be awake at this time? Didn’t the word prat also define other words such as lazy, arrogant, rude, cantbebotheredtogetupuntilmidday? He hurried down the steps and through the hallways. He was sure that the excuse that he ‘got lost’ wouldn’t be taken to lightly in Arthur’s book, and would result in another spell in the stocks.
Yum.
Aha. Arthur’s room. Merlin threw the door open and hurried in, also flinging the curtains open in the same manner as he had done the door.
“Morning Sire!” he called cheerfully. That would get him up in no time.

.:Name of Character:. Merlin .:Nick Name:. Idiot, Emrys, Young Warlock (in the words of the great dragon) .:Age:. 20 .:Race:. Ealdorian, Camelotian .:Status:. Servant / Sorcerer
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:.
Quite skinny with a mop of dark brown hair. Merlin usually gets his exercise by running around after Arthur all day and doing chores for Gauis. He usually wears a scarf around his neck, which has become a sort of trademark, boots and jacket.
.:Height:. 5’10
.:Portrayed by:. Colin Morgan
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:.
Merlin is the person who you’d least expect to hide a secret. He is very loyal to Arthur and looks out for him – giving him advice and his opinions of situations even though he knows they will not be taken into account. He does what he feels is right for Camelot and for himself.
.:Strengths:.
> Magic – You’ve seen him in action so that pretty much explains itself, though he still has more to learn. > Putting up with Arthur
> Cheating death a few times here and there thanks to the magic book, Gauis and his powers (and on some occasions Arthur).
> Giving some pretty good advice here and there – despite whether anyone wants to hear it or not. Merlin usually voices his opinions when he feels that something is not right, or whether he has his suspicions during situations
> He acts quickly on seeing Arthur or his friends in danger (sometimes this can result in almost killing or sacrificing himself)
> Polishing – He’s very nifty when it comes to getting marks and dents out of armour!
> Doing lots of sneaking around after baddies, and stalking them around the castle if he thinks they’re up to no good.
> Quick reflexes from dodging everything that Arthur throws at him!
> Making up insulting names for Arthur such as clot pole and dollop head.
.:Weaknesses:.
> Doing what he feels is right when it isn’t always necessarily the case
> A bit of a doormat – he’s ended up in the stocks a few times thanks to Arthur
> Trying to see the good in everyone
.:Magic Abilities:. Merlin was born with natural magical abilities which had remained unexplained for a while as to how or who he had inherited them from. Merlin soon found out that his abilites are inherited from his father Balinor, who was a dragon lord. Merlin has also inherited the gift of the dragonlord from his father, as it was passed to him upon Balinor’s death.
.:Special Skills:. Keeping the magic secret (ooooh yeeeeeah!)
.:Accents:. General English
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Ealdor
.:Family:.
> Hunith – Mother > Balinor – Father (deceased)
.:Occupation:. Prince Arthur’s Man Servant, Sorcerer and Dragon lord .:Current Location of Residence:. Camelot
.:History:.
Merlin was born in Ealdor and grew up there. He never knew his father or how he came to posses the power of moving objects and other un- explanatory things since he was little. It just seemed to be a part that was born naturally from him, and he used his talents anyway he could to help his mother, Hunith. Hunith sent Merlin to Camelot so as he could have a hand to hold (in the form of Gauis) and to set himself a course in life. Unfortunately on his arrival he had a run in with a very stuck up prat (who he soon found out to be The Prince of Camelot) and wound up spending an evening in the dungeons…and then spending the next day in the stocks!
Merlin didn’t ask to be Arthur’s manservant – nor did he actually want the job when he was awarded it by King Uther, and all because he saved his son??!! Neither of the pair was happy with the situation, with Arthur making Merlin run around after him or giving him the worst jobs ever! The pair soon began to form some kind of bond – signifying the start of the words that the great dragon had given Merlin. That it was his destiny that he and Arthur should reunite the land of Albion, and that he was only one side of he coin, whereas Arthur was the other.
Merlin has put his own life on the line many times to see Arthur safe, and there have been times where he has almost given away his secret to the prince – but has never found the right way of doing so. He and Arthur have also grown to become friends rather than master and servant, with Merlin insisting that he would ride out with Arthur and the knights when the Great Dragon attacked Camelot.
On the quest for the Dragon lord, Merlin found out that the man they were seeking was his father, Balinor – which explains where he inherited his powers from, and also that he would inherit the powers of the dragon lord should his father ever die. Unfortunately this happened on their way back to Camelot with Balinor, and a broken Merlin (despite Arthur telling him that no man was worth his tears) made the choice to ride out to take on the dragon.
There have been decisions that Merlin has faced, where he has had to do what he feels is right. The poisoning of Morgana being a prime example, and even disguising himself as Dragoon the great – in order to avoid the feelings that Arthur and Gwen shared, being exposed to Uther.
Merlin continues to be on full alert whilst serving Arthur. Now the stakes have been raised higher than ever – it looks as though he may have to work and fight even harder in order to fulfil his destiny.
