Thinking of the whole thing as an adventure just seemed to trivialise everything, but maybe that was what they both needed. They’d made up their minds to go now, so they were committed to this, and there was no going back. Therefore anything which could make this seem more pleasant was more than welcome in Idris’s eyes. She’d often dreamt of adventure of a child, as who didn’t really, but now it was staring her in the face she was afraid. Nothing in Camelot was safe anymore, and it was time she recognised that and got to grips with the situation at hand. Brynn needed her help, and it would be no good if Idris just stood here panicking about everything in the process. If they were caught that was the end of it, literally. They had to try though, they were damned if they did, damned if they didn’t. However, at least this way they both had a chance.
Idris only vaguely knew the ways around the castle, she was never that good with directions, but especially not at night. Brynn seemed to know where she was going though, which was fortunate for both of them really. Two heads were certainly better than one, and it meant they had more chance of seeing this through. Bad situations were always made lighter when you had a friend to experience it all with you. They had finally reached the door, and Idris took a slight inhale of breath and ran her hand through her hair. She wasn’t quite sure what to do now, and she froze slightly and looked to her friend for guidance. Eventually, Idris had the initiative to open the door, and she smiled as Brynn went to help her as well. Encouragingly, she grinned at her, and the pair pushed until the door was opened enough for them to slip through. Jesu, the knights were either incredibly strong or there was another way of getting into that room. She couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to go through that everytime they came down here.
At Brynn’s words, she nodded and followed her friend into the room. There was only dim light to show their path, but it was enough for Idris. She continued to follow Brynn and bit her lip, they’d left the door open, but they didn’t have time to shut it did they? Opening it had been hard enough after all. “Where are we going now?” She whispered towards her friend as she avoided tripping up over the various weaponry which was scattered in the room.

Idris found herself smiling as Brynn described this as a sort of adventure. It was the sort of thing which Idris would have said to her brothers and sisters as a bedtime story. After all, this was an adventure, yes, but they weren’t prepared for it at all. Brynn might have had time to think this through, but Idris certainly hadn’t. She had just been keeping her head down, and seeing what happened. She had just been surviving, and that was all. “You won’t hear a peep out of me.” Idris promised faithfully and shot her friend a smile.
Well at least Brynn had seen sense now, that she couldn’t go at this alone. It was silly for a woman to try and steal away into the night, not matter what the situation. Idris had heard many tales of vulnerable women out alone in the middle of the night, and she would not want any harm to come to her friend. They were two unarmed women, but that was better than one unarmed woman wasn’t it? They were less of a target, or at least Idris hoped so. This was dangerous, and if either of them denied that fact then they would be lying of course. Neither of them had any means of protecting themselves. Idris tried to brush these thoughts from her mind, but it was hard. She was taking this decision quite quickly but it shouldn’t be something to be taken lightly. After all, she was abandoning her home, and running off into the night. Where on earth would they go from here? Idris had a few coins in the purse she kept with her at all times, but that was it. “Come on, let’s get this over with.” Idris said rather gruffly, and began to walk towards the armoury door, constantly checking around her.
She felt like a rabbit stopped by a hunt every time she heard a noise. Jesu, this was ridiculous. She was jumping at shadows; she was better than this! She looked up at the door of the armoury, she was sure at this hour no one would be inside, maybe a servant cleaning but that was it. No servant would give them away, so they could only hope that if there was someone inside, it was a friendly face rather than one of the new guards. Placing her hand on the door, she tried to shift it. As Brynn had said, it was rather thick, and therefore one woman would find it hard to open. “Come on, two hands will make light work of this.” Their combined effort would shift the door enough for them to slip inside quickly.

The more Idris spoke to her friend, the more panicked she was becoming about the situation. Of course living in Camelot, Idris had learned not to panic, and run in the face of danger. She hadn’t ever considered working in the castle as a particularly safe job. Even though Camelot wasn’t under attack every other week, they were under attack enough to make even living in the city a dangerous affair. However, the city in a way had a strong resilience to such attacks, and they were usually quick to hold together in the face of adversary, something Idris had learned to fall in line with over the years. However, in the face of Morgana’s attack, most had fled or were now in hiding. It struck Idris how afraid everyone was of the woman, despite all they had faced together before then. Then again, Morgana’s last rule had left a lasting effect on the population, and while the woman’s name had once been spoken with the highest regard in Camelot, now it was spoken only with despise and fear.
Idris was sure now that she was going with Brynn, no matter what. She wasn’t going to let her friend run off into the night by herself. Two hands were always better than one, and perhaps Idris could be of some help to her friend. She would rather be by Brynn’s side, helping her to find her family and gain safety than staying in the castle, serving the witch that now sat upon the throne. She had only been using her job as a way of surviving, and slipping through the net until now, but she almost felt empowered in a way. They were going to get away from the witch and steal away into the night. Despite all its dangers, Idris was rather caught up in the fantasy element of what they were about to do. Perhaps that was why she had always been named as a day dreamer.
Brynn’s concern was expected, Idris didn’t expect it to be that easy, nothing ever was with friends was it? Idris just shrugged off her friends concern. She was probably being too casual about this situation. Brynn had had time to think it through, and Idris hadn’t. However, she wasn’t considering that right now, she just wanted to help her friend and go with her. “Two heads are better than one.” She hissed at her friend, trying to keep her voice to a whisper as they continued through the castle. “Can’t have you wandering off without me can I? Whose ear would I chew off with the daily toils?” she was trying to make light of the situation, but she wasn’t budging, she was going with Brynn and that was that. “Right, where do we need to go now?”

Idris was starting to feel panicked by Brynn’s actions, mainly because she was starting to fear for her friends safety. Last time Morgana had taken over Camelot, Idris had kept her head down and she had survived, and that was all she intended to this time. In truth, it was probably safer in the citadel this time than it had been last time, after all, they weren’t up against men who couldn’t fall this time. Although it was still incredibly dangerous, Idris hadn’t even thought of leaving yet, it hadn’t even crossed her mind. After all, where would she go? She wouldn’t go back to her parents, because that would almost be like admitting that she had failed. Idris didn’t have any other family, so the only person who she was putting in danger by staying here was herself, and she knew that.
Idris was sure that Brynn was just acting rashly and that she really wasn’t thinking straight. How could she be thinking straight if she just thought that she was going to be able to run out of here by herself? She gave her a half enthusiastic smile at her words, she was right, at least they agreed that no where was safe. However, didn’t it make more sense to stay somewhere that they were familiar with? It meant that they could hide themselves. After all, Idris doubted that the knights were going to just give up; they hadn’t last time after all. Whether Brynn liked being cooped up or not, it seemed like a silly reason to just run out into danger, because she didn’t like being cooped up. “What loophole were you intending to use?” Idris asked, slightly folding her arms at her friend, she wasn’t going to let her run off into the night on an impulse. She wouldn’t let her go at all without someone by her side, she was sure of that. Idris would go with her, because there was safety in numbers, if Brynn went by herself, then she probably had less of a chance. These were dangerous times, not just because they were loyal to the King, but because they were women. Idris had heard horror stories of women being chased down by men in wartime, to satisfy their desires. A chill ran down Idris’s spine, she would rather die than surrender her honour in such a disgusting way.
Wait, she had already tried to get out by the dungeons? Idris almost felt panicked, did she not know the guard had been doubled there? Idris had heard that some of the knights had been taken there almost immediately as Morgana had taken over. The only saving grace was that Arthur had not been among them. “The training ground?” Idris repeated, but nodded, “I know it.” Her brain was ticking over faster than it probably should have done, and she was now only grateful that she was already wearing her cloak, as it was quite a cold night. She grabbed Brynn’s hand, “Come on, it’s now or never.” She was going with Brynn, because she wasn’t going to let her friend run off by herself. It still seemed like a silly plan in essence to Idris, but she could see the determination in Brynn’s eyes. If Idris couldn’t persuade her to not go, then she could try and protect her at the very least.

Idris was usually quite quick and sharp about these kinds of things, and she could usually read people like a book, but this was quite different. She could only stare on at her friend, what on earth was she up to? No one should be wandering around at this time of night. Although Idris felt hypocritical thinking this, as she was wandering around in t dead of night by herself, she could at least look out for her friend. Idris could deal with things happening to herself, but she wouldn’t be able to stand it if something happened to Brynn because of a moments weakness or stupidity. Realising she was still holding her cleaning things, Idris set them to one side so that she could look on at her friend properly. She wanted to understand what she was doing, and why on earth she was doing it.
Of course Idris wasn’t just going to run off and abandon Brynn. She wasn’t going to leave her friend alone in the dark with all of Morgana’s men out there. She was a much better friend than that, so she was staying put. She was sure that Brynn was already aware of that fact. She had been friends with Brynn for so long that she had to know how stubborn Idris could get at times. Once she had dug her heels in it was hard to shift them.
She was trying to get out of the castle? Was she insane? Of course those were Idris’s first thoughts. She just stared on at her friend, not really sure if she was serious or not. There were guards at every entrance, as the citadel was in complete lock down. Morgana was still looking for Arthur, or at least Idris presumed that was what was happening, which meant until he was found they were all in danger. It was clear that Brynn was completely intent on leaving straight away and Idris bit her lip. To her it just seemed completely stupid. “Brynn, nowhere is safe.” She was trying to reason with her, but she wasn’t going to leave Brynn no matter what her final decision came to be. She didn’t grab onto her friend again, but she just looked on at her, “Are you sure you want to do this? The lower town is teaming with soldiers.” She wanted Brynn to think about this before she just jumped into it feet first, it was the only way to see if she was serious or not.

Idris wasn’t quite sure what she was doing. It just felt like she was surviving but nothing more as long as she stayed in the castle. The worst bit was the uncertainty which was following Morgana’s take over. No one was sure whose life was safe, and what her soldiers had been ordered to do. Were they all going to be put to death? Was an example going to be made? She gulped at the mere thought and was quickly on her way. She had done so much growing up before coming to Camelot, but now more than ever she wished that she was just a servant in some noble house. Lucan had always promised that she could go and work for him, but he wasn’t even married yet, and he didn’t have an estate for her to work in, so her dreams were just left to another day. Idris still wanted her hopes to come true, it would be safer working out in a noble estate than in the castle. During just over a year the castle had fallen into enemy hands twice, and that was two times too many for Idris.
Idris was relieved to find of course that it wasn’t a guard, or one of Morgana’s men coming her way but Brynn. She hadn’t seen much of her friend over the past few weeks. Then again, Idris had been rather busy, she had been working all the hours she could to gain more money from the Royal purse. It all added up, and Idris wasn’t going to sit idly by while there was money to be made. She couldn’t help but be concerned at how Brynn looked, and Idris just looked on at her rather concerned. Idris knew her own reasons for being out and about at this time of night, but it was unusual for Brynn to be alert at such an hour. Shouldn’t she be tending her geese? Or more importantly, shouldn’t she be in bed? What on earth was she playing at? The castle wasn’t safe anymore.
As Brynn told her to just forget their encounter Idris’s eyes widened and she spun round on her heels and grabbed her friends arm. It wasn’t in an aggressive way, it was just to get her to stay where she was and to prevent her from running off. She wanted answers before she let Brynn go anywhere. "Accomplices? What do you mean?" She wasn’t about to let her friend go running off into danger if she could prevent it. “Where are you going?” She changed her question, but she was still deadly serious. She wanted Brynn to tell her what was going on, and she wasn’t going to let her go until she did. Idris had often been deemed as stubborn, and now she was about to prove how true that was.

In her naive hopes, Idris had thought that after the events which had passed a year ago, Camelot would never fall into such desperate times. But now it felt as if a veil of darkness had once again fallen upon the city. Last time Morgana had taken over Camelot Idris had been forced to play along with her song, like the majority of the other servants. It had been the only way to survive; nod when you were required too, and to just stay in the shadows. There had always been whispers that Arthur would return, but this time there were no such whispers. There were hopes, but this felt more desperate. No one had any idea what had happened to their King, nor what would happen next.
The night had once again fallen, and Idris could only be glad. Tonight was so much different from its former, as last night had been the longest night in Idris’s life. There had just been so many screams, everyone had been running in utter confusion. No one had been quite sure what was going on until it was too late. She’d been in the servants quarters when the attack had begun, and she’d just stayed there, almost in hiding, but what else could she do? She wasn’t a knight, she couldn’t protect the city, but her survival instincts had kicked in, she knew she just needed to stay safe. Then there had just been a silence, no one had been quite sure what to do. Were they just to resume usual service? Idris had complied with that line of thought, as had some of the other servants, and they had just tried to pretend like everything was fine, even though it was increasingly obvious that nothing was right at all.
Idris wasn’t quite sure what to do, was staying here the right thing to do? Even if she wanted to leave she knew she wouldn’t be able to. Where on earth would she go? Gathering her cleaning things, she began to make her way back to the servants quarters, it was some ungodly hour but Idris had been keeping herself busy with tasks around the castle. Although many servants were unwilling to partake in keeping the castle tidy for Morgana, Idris knew it was just one way in which she could survive with ease, so she had just tried to keep her head down and get on with life.
As she moved through the castle, she could see a figure in the distance. At first she froze and panicked, thinking that it was one of Morgana’s men. That was all she needed. But it wasn’t, and her gaze softened as she spotted one of the other servants, “Brynn, what on earth are you doing?” She asked, more out of concern than anything else. It wasn’t safe for someone to be wandering around at this time of night in the castle, especially given what had happened last night.

Idris was glad now that she had stumbled upon Lucan, because if she hadn't then she had been looking at facing the other dreary servants. At least she could protest that she had been set some task by a noble and that was the reason why her goblet collecting had been delayed. Plus, even though she and Lucan were only fresh out of meeting each other, she was glad to finally be in the company of a friendly face.
She hadn't really suspected him of hiding a woman, she wasn't sure why but she just hadn't expected it. She had however fully expected his friend, Yvain was it? To be out here. She couldn't understand why Lucan would choose to stand out here by himself rather than be inside conversing, if she were a noblewoman she would be talking and dancing to her hearts content!
He patted the space next to him and she placed her free arm on her hip, her other arm clutching the basket with the goblets in it. She really should be going back to the feast and helping out there, there was only so much time really she could plead she was the fault of a task from a nobleman before suspicion was raised. She however took his gesture kindly, setting her basket down by her feet and joining him. "What that?" She asked, gesturing back to the Great hall and brushed it away with her hand, "I'm always having nights like that, though I confess, and it's of little comfort to you, but you are the first nobleman I have poured wine over."
Idris gave a soft small smile at his words and then thought on them. She wished she had enough free time to wander about and think on her daily matters. Then again, Lucan probably had his own things to worry about. "Do you want me to go?" She asked up at him, "I'll hardly be able to keep quiet long enough for you to gather your thoughts." It was true, Idris could hardly keep still for two moments and she could never keep quiet, it had been a trait she had brought with her from childhood.

Idris nodded eagerly as he asked her if she would rather serve a lord of the manor than a King. She supposed that Lucan, from what she had seen of him so far, would be a generously kind man to serve and therefore she wouldn't mind it at all. She did't like working in the castle as it sometimes felt like you were just another nameless face to give wine to nobles and smile when it was needed, "I would rather be stationed in your household than running up and down after every noble in Camelot." She gave him a fiery grin, it wasn't just because she supposed Lucan would be a kind lord, but it was because she would enjoy the intimacy of serving one household rather than whoever popped into Camelot.Lucan left her and she made her way into the kitchens. She set down the crockery she had been holding so it could be washed and put a hand through her hair, reflecting over what had just happened. She certainly liked Lucan's company, he wasn't like the other noblemen, he had taken a genuine interest in her for a few moments and she appreciated that, even if he had just been doing it to be polite.
Idris had been dawdling in the kitchens for as long as she thought she could get away with it. She knew that Lucan was right when he said she shouldn't hide away, and instead she should face up to the other servants, but it felt easier for a few moments to just hide away and forget the world. She received her instructions to go and collect goblets that had been left outside and she nodded, taking a large basket with her to put the goblets in. It was a fine evening and she supposed many noble's would have decided to go outside for a while.
She arrived out in the gardens quicker than she would have expected and took a few moments to enjoy the night air, it was soft against her skin but it wasn't too cold. It was then she noticed another figure out in the darkness with her. She didn't approach them straight away, she had no place to but she spotted a goblet thrown aside near the man so she went to pick it up and then realised who it was.
Her face broke out into a gentle smile as she stood up, the goblet now in her basket. "Oh, Lucan, what a nice surprise." She grinned for a few moments, then spotted another goblet and rushed forwards to grab it, "What are you doing out here?" She knew she was being forward and everything a servant should not but she was curious. After all, Lucan was practically on his own in the middle of the celebrations inside so he probably had a reason for his solitude.

Idris rolled her eyes as Tristan gave in and told her what his guess was. She knew it was going to be something completely obvious like that. However, the mixture of being up since the early hours of the morning cleaning and the pang of hunger ailing her stomach fazed her senses. "I let you win that one my Lord." She teased softly, giving him a quick cheeky wink.
Tristan seemed more in a hurry to crack into his pie than Idris was. She watched him curiously for a few moments as he cracked open his pie. The smell made her realise how hungry she actually was; it smelt even better than some of the food she served to the nobles at the various feasts.
She then cracked into her own pie, enjoying the smell before taking a bite. It felt like the pie was falling into an empty stomach; Idris had not had much to eat that morning and was therefore glad of such a large lunch, especially as her entire evening would probably be spent serving nobles food whilst being hungry herself. "This is the best pie I've had in ages." She commented happily, tucking into her lunch.
The pie tasted completely home made which just gave her pangs of her home. The memories of her mother cooking meals over a large pot at home were felt with every mouthful, but she wasn't going to let that ruin her afternoon with Tristan. Lord knows, her family seemed to have ruined enough in the last few months. "Will you be at the feast this evening my Lord?"

Idris would never suggest that being a knight was incredibly easy. However, neither would she particularly want to be a knight of Camelot. Not that it would ever be an option, but Idris would prefer to be on the ground, aiding the wounded and such. However, if anyone ever tried to attack her Idris would never hesitate to give them what was coming to them. Idris considered Tristan's comment about women and was unsure of how to take it. It was probably meant in jest, and although Idris knew women could never become Knight's of Camelot she disliked the fact that it was an impossibility. Therefore she remained silent, not trusting her own tongue in response to Tristan. Instead, she gave him a small smile, taking in a small sip of her drink.
Idris was really stuck with Tristan's word. It didn't really help that her stomach was starting to rumble and that seemed to be all she could concentrate upon. Even when she looked upwards she was struggling. Her look of confusion must have been overtly showing and Idris shrugged at Tristan, "I honestly have no idea." She said quickly and continued to look about her.
After a few moment's Idris's smile widened and she looked expectantly at Tristan, "I know I haven't won, but I spy something beginning with 'F'" And she pointed behind Tristan's head, "Our food has finally arrived." The amount of relief Idris's stomach felt was indescribable as their food began to be placed in front of them. Although as a servant she was used to going for quite long periods of time without food she was still incredibly hungry. That was one of the few reasons she would ever envy someone in Tristan's position because he would never have to worry where the next meal was coming from, Idris did and sometimes she felt that more than others.

Idris beamed as Tristan said she would make a dashing knight. She put on a mock face, her hands in fists at her hips and she pushed her chest out. "I'd be a knight of Camelot," She tossed her hair back, still in character, "And run around saving people and being heroic." Idris grinned then fell into stiches of laughter, only managing to calm herself down after a few moments. She mocked, of course she did, but she knew that the knights of Camelot were incredibly brave which meant that Tristan was brave by default.
Idris smiled as Tristan pointed out that the only I spy he would have been capable of would have been imaginary items. It would have made the game significantly harder on Idris' part."It would have been interesting though wouldn't it?" She shrugged, taking another swig of her drink.
She flickered her eyes over her companion as his stomach rumbled, "Shouldn't be too long now surely?" She asked, feeling her own tummy going exactly the same way as Tristan's if the food didn't hurry up. Luckily Tristan had already given her a word to guess so she occupied herself with that pastime. Something beginning with C; hmm. She looked around the tavern for anything beginning with the letter and drew a blank, "Cloak?" She suggested, unsure and looked around for more objects, "Candle?"

Tristan hadn't pressed her about information about her family which both confused her and increased her enjoyment in the conversation. She was tired with being little Idris who had come to the big city and looked out of her depth and she appreciated Tristan for not pressing her with more details, "I think everyone would be shocked if I became a knight and bought you lunch." Idris said thoughtfully, "Especially me." Idris' family probably wouldn't believe her even if she ever told them that Tristan had bought her lunch, she wasn't even sure if they cared any more.
Idris watched the drunk woman fumble around on the floor and nodded enthusiastically as Tristan offered his guess. "We could have played I spy with that topic last night as well, couldn't we?" She chuckled and smiled at him, she was softly teasing him but it was in good fun. She had no intention of humiliating him here or anywhere else because he was one of the few people to show her friendship since her arrival.
Idris took another sip of her drink and sat back casually, "Your turn and be quick- if it's much longer waiting for this food I might eat the tankard."

Childishly, Idris was getting really into this game. She couldn't have really ever imagined being treated to lunch by a knight and playing I spy with him in her first few months in Camelot; it wasn't exactly what she had been expecting. She had been expecting nobles to be rude to her all the time and treat her like dirt. Some noble's lived up to that charming reputation but Tristan was breaking it down thankfully. "I don't think my family would believe me if I told them I was being treated to lunch by a knight." As soon as she'd mentioned her family she regretted it, she didn't show it of course and caught herself quickly with a small smile at Tristan as they continued with their game.
"K?" She repeated and scratched the side of her head, puzzled at what he could mean. She looked around the pub for anything beginning with 'k'. She wasn't going to let Tristan beat her because she knew he wouldn't let her live it down. "Erm," She looked past Tristan, thinking hard and then she spotted it at the other end of the bar, "Ah ha! Keg!" She declared and grinned satisfactorily. She had to think of something suitably harder to try to catch Tristan out as he had tried to do with her. There were plenty of people in the tavern and there were already drunks congregating by the bar. "I spy something beginning with D."

Idris shrugged at his words to show him she didn't mind he stated he preferred his own company. "Me too." She agreed and smiled. It was true she preferred solitude rather than to be the centre of attention. It was something she had developed as a child, she had never enjoyed being anything but in the background. She had let her siblings take the majority of the attention. No one expected Idris to have been the more quiet in the family as when someone spoke to her individually she made sure her opinions were heard.
Idris nodded, inclining her head towards Tristan, "Correct." She confirmed and smiled, taking a drink of the milk. She had gone slightly easy on him for her first go but she had felt rushed to give an answer and she couldn't think. She was still incredibly hungry but the game was keeping her mind off it. She hoped, however, that the food wouldn't be much longer even though the milk was keeping her going for now. The smell of the pies wafting in from the kitchens, plus out of the corner of her eye she could see other people tucking in to their lunches and she felt a twinge of jealousy.
"Go on, it's your go." Idris hadn't had this much fun in a long while, Tristan was turning out to be wonderful company and he was doing a good job at keeping her entertained.

Idris was laughing again, but happily laughing. She raised her tankard with Tristan in a mock toast and nodded, "Yeah, from here we'll both be less unsociable." She took a swig from her glass and considered Tristan, surely he should be more sociable than Idris was. She had little time because of her duties and so she missed servants who she had been aquainted with. "Do you not socialise with the other knights of Camelot?" She asked, "Or does this mean you will socialise more?" She didn't want to put Tristan back in a depressive stance so she smiled at him, letting him know her question was in good humour.
Idris knew she had been unsociable since arriving in Camelot. The bad terms she had left her family on had affected her judgement of other people. If those who loved her could not provide or aid her in her adulthood, who could she trust to do just that? She had trusted her family to find her a marriage and support her in it, and the total opposite had happened. Of course she kept telling herself she wasn't bitter, and she tried so hard not to be but how could she not? Her family was living a life without her and she was living a life without them, and that was how it had to be.
"I have played I-spy before you know." She replied confidently, taking a swig of her drink then thinking what she could come up with for her I-spy. She thoughtfully scanned the room then thought up a good challenge, "Okay, I spy something beginning with M." She didn't think it was particularly hard but it was a start and she couldn't think of anything else.

Idris had to admit she was enjoying herself. It was defiantly one of the different ways she had spent her afternoons in Camelot. Usually when she had free time she either walked around the castle trying to get her bearings, or just simply stayed in the servants quarters keeping herself to herself. She was enjoying not having to think about her situation, nor her job for a few hours. When she was in the castle her position as a servant dominated everything, but now she just felt like everyone else in Camelot. It was a good feeling, as if she belonged somewhere instead of just feeling dislodged from everything around her. She decided to merely be grateful for Tristan's actions because she thought he was going to be insulted if she continued to defiantly wanting to pay, plus she enjoyed the fact her coin purse was still quite full, "Okay, thank you Tristan." She submitted, taking a swig of her drink and smiling at him.
Idris nodded as Tristan spoke, "I'm not used to socialising either." She put in confidently, she went to leave it there but decided to go on a little bit, "I haven't been out much since I arrived in Camelot." It wasn't about trust, she just didn't like telling everyone too much about her life. She had told Brynn about her family and she was sure she had felt sorry for her and it irritated Idris. She didn't really want people to feel sorry for the way things had worked out, they had happened and that was that; if she could accept it why could no one else.
Idris giggled slightly as Tristan suggested I spy. She hadn't played it in years. It used to be a lazy pastime for her and her siblings whilst they were on the farm on a warm afternoon. She was sure her elder brother used to make up words so that he would win. "Erm T?" She looked around her, "Tavern? Tankard?" She scratched her head, "Or how about Tristan?"

Idris wasn't the dreamer sort of woman. She was already aware from whilst performing her duties that a lot of the serving women were only placed there because of their good looks. Of course all of the women knew their beauty but they didn't have the maturity to match the looks. They usually just stood in the corners gossiping about the latest recruit to the Knights of Camelot, or they spoke about who was the most good looking noble. Idris suspected that they hoped one of these knights would sweep them from their humble origins and make them a lady of the manor. Idris was fully aware that never happened, and if it did it was incredibly rare, weren't knight's supposed to marry women in their own rank? Idris was using the experience with the knights so that she could gain employment attached to one household in the future, it was her small dream but it was something to aspire to.
Idris shrugged at Brynn's question, "They aren't too demanding, and the work keeps me busy." She smiled, Idris had never been one for slacking during work and she enjoyed being kept busy, "Some of the nobles are polite, don't get me wrong, a lot aren't, but it really isn't as bad as everyone makes out." Idris wasn't quite sure what she loved about her work apart from it helping her to aspire to her dreams of serving a Lord's household. "It's just different to what I'm used to, I'm hoping it'll help me gain employment in a Lord's household, I'd prefer that to the castle." She confided this in Brynn because she didn't want her to think she was one of these silly pretty serving girls who was after catching the eye of some lord. "But I don't know how likely that is."
Idris felt the passion from Brynn for her geese as she blurted out her words. She had gone from very short answers and questions to quite a long statement and Idris could do nothing but smile. It was nice to find someone who was so happy with their lot in life, "It sounds interesting." Idris confessed, "I shall have to come and visit you whist you are tending them sometime?"
Idris bowed her head as Elinor curtseyed at her and smiled back to Brynn as she explained about her siblings. "I am the second oldest child in a family of six," Idris explained slowly, she hadn't really told anyone about her family before; no one had asked. "My youngest sister is still twelve so I used to help out a lot with her upbringing when we were younger." She didn't know if that meant she should be good with children, maybe she just had a talent for speaking to children.

When Tristan did reappear he was also carrying two glasses full of what she discovered to be milk. One of the few luxury items they had on the farm was a dairy cow. It was one symbol of their wealth for many years as her father often sold the milk to neighbouring villages. However, more and more farmers had got dairy cows the price of milk had gone down; obviously. However, it meant that Idris had been used to fresh milk all her life, well up until now. She wasn’t too bothered it wouldn’t be as fresh however, she wasn’t a snob; life hadn’t dealt her a hand that allowed her the ability to be choosy about how she looked and what she ate. She thanked him and when he sat down, taking a sip from his glass she finally piped up, “You should have at least allowed me to get you a drink.” She knew he had threatened her with the stocks, but she had been under the impression that was on the topic of paying for the meal, not drinks.
He laughed as she was setting down her glass and she looked down at herself, self consciously thinking she might have spilt some milk or something similar. She found nothing of the sought to be true so with confused eyes she smiled, “What’s tickled you?”
At his question Idris looked around the room as if the answer was just going to fall from the ceiling. She shrugged unhelpfully, but not unenthusiastically. She didn’t mind the place, in fact she kind of liked it, “It’s cosy isn’t it?” She replied, feeling as if she was settling into her surroundings rather than sticking out like a sore thumb with the rest of the people in the tavern. “I’m hungrier now though,” She admitted. The smell of the pies was wafting through the tavern right to their table and it was starting to take its toll, “But we’ll have to amuse ourselves until we get our food,” She supposed vocally, “Any ideas?”

OOC Im ashamed I’ve taken to long to reply to this. I’m sorry! Idris beamed at Sir Lucan as he said she was an interesting character. It had never been her intention, obviously she knew she was different from the other servants who had been bred for the profession, but she didn’t know it was that obvious. “Well I try to be me at all times.” She wouldn’t compromise herself for anyone; well within reason. She knew she had to reign in her behaviour around the head servants and around the more stuffy nobles, but in front of people like Lucan or Tristan she could relax and be herself. For a servant she was proving different to others, for one, she seemed to be friendlier with nobles than other servants, well, excluding Brynn and her family.
Idris’s mood was heightened straight away by the promise of employment if Lucan suddenly inherited land. From the use of his words, he wasn’t expecting any land anytime soon, but she appreciated it nonetheless, “I’d be honoured!” Her voice went into some kind of squeak in her excitement. Although she dreamed of being attached to a noble household she never thought it would be recognised, maybe there was hope for her yet… a slight hope but it was hope nonetheless. “I’d keep things in check.” She assured him.
She awkwardly smiled and apologised, “Sorry.” Over her decorum, but as a rule of thumb she had been trying to remember her manners with nobles. It had been one thing she had been shouted at, and she wasn’t about to be demoted to working in the kitchens. She prided herself with thinking of Lucan as a friend after their encounter, not one she could dine with, or take long walks with, but one in name; someone to share the day to day experiences of her hectic life with.
As he took his leave she took hers, no bows, curtseys she smiled but couldn’t wave because of the amount of cups she was holding, “See you later Lucan!” With that she made her way towards the roaring heat of the kitchen and the rest of her evening.
