Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Ffrom the moment that Morgana, and Guinevère, had been taken, the king ordered a search party be sent out. Arthur did not waste a single second. Both women were dear to him, but in very different ways. Despite the forced emotional distance he and Guinevère had to place between each other . . . his feelings for her grew every day. And now, knowing she was out there, in danger . . . well, it didn't take long for Arthur to organize a team of knights and set out to find her. The search was not long for they quickly found Morgana but . . . the first thing that Arthur asked was
"Where's Guinevère?" Morgana looked trouble and this was only further evidenced when she practically begged the king to go after Gwen. Arthur remained quiet. Had it not looked like Morgana needed tending to, he would have stayed out there. But the king's refusal to send anyone out did not discourage Arthur. He knew he had to follow his gut; he had to do what was right. And if that meant defying direct orders from the king . . . then so be it. That night, before Morgana even had to ask him, Arthur was already packing. She asked him to bring her home and Arthur would not rest until he had done so. He rode out that night, not stopping until the horse needed rest. And even then, only for a short while. He believed in his heart that Guinevère was alive . . . she had to be. And he would not rest, he would not stop until he found her and brought her to safety.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur kept smiling as Lunete reminded him. "Ah yes," he said 'remembering' which story he was to tell. "But the question is . . . which time?" Indicating that Guinevère had saved him a couple of times. Some in emotional ways, other in physical ways. He couldn't help but look at Guinevère as he said it, before his attentions were turned to his daughter when Guinevère completed her hair. Mirela reached behind her to touch it, a bright smiling on her lips as he kept beaming with joy. "Let me see!" Galahad said with that oh so familiar expression Arthur was too used it. As Galahad reached over, Arthur's hands went to his son's sides and pulled him back.
"I don't think so," he said still smiling, but giving his son a knowing look. He was well aware that Galahad was going to mess it up. Mirela didn't seem to notice his plans as he she was too excited! She turned around and wrapped her arms around Guinevère in a hug. "Thank you!!" She exclaimed excitedly while drawing back from the embrace. The sight was enough to make Arthur's heart swell with emotion. As if that wasn't enough, Guinevère pulled out the dress and Mirela's eyes widened at it. "Its SO pretty! Its for me?! REALLY?!" She glanced at Arthur, to which he almost immediately gave a nod. If there was one thing he wished his children to learn, it was never to take anything for granted. To never expect things simply due to their status.
Mirela took the dress excitedly, looking over it with wonder. "Thank you Lady Guinevère!" She seemed to not register what Gwen had said about not being a lady. "I will wear it for a very special day! Maybe when I get to see you again?!" She stood up with it, holding it out in front of her as she jumped up and down a little. In the meantime, Alymere thought over Guinevère's question in regards to what he preferred. "A sword," he finally decided, having to have given it a lot of thought. "It's more useful in every day situations." Alymere paused for a moment before continuing. "But I think it's important to learn how to use all the different weapons." And he was eager to do so.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Galaad was already reaching for one of the goodies when Lunete asked why he moved away. "Because you keep moving closer to me!" He stated, the obvious answer yet not actually explaining why he moved away from her to begin with. Though he was glad he didn't have to build upon it for she was now asking Alymere and his father about things! Arthur smiled at Lunete's excitement. "As long as your mother is alright with it?" He both asked and stated as he glanced at Guinevère before looking back at Lunete. "Then you are most welcome." If Arthur knew when she would be there, he would make certain to alter the training so that it wasn't as intensive but rather, more enjoyable to watch. To put on a bit of a show for Guinevère's daughter.
She then spoke of stories and he couldn't help but smile hearing that Guinevère had told the one where he saved her. A slight chuckle escaped him when she added a please to her reminding him that he would tell a story too. "That's right, I did say that," he commented, as if he had forgotten which . . . he did not. "Hmmm, now what story was it that I was going to tell . . . " He questioned with an exaggerated attempt to remember, as if he had actually forgotten. Alymere smiled shyly at Guinevère as she asked if he was good, and gave a small shrug of his shoulders as he shyly shifted a little closer to Arthur. Arthur just smiled at looked at his son.
"He's excellent," Arthur praised, ruffling Alymere's hair a little. His son was modest; a trait that Arthur had not had when it came to his training when he'd been young. "My brother will be one of the best!" Galahad boasted. Alymere just continued to smile. "I hope so," he added quietly. "He started training earlier than expected, showing great promise at his age. I have no doubts that he will excel." And Arthur knew Galahad would have to start training proper training soon too with the promise he showed. Though, Arthur was concerned what would happen once he knew how to use a sword and got one in his hands. His second son was already dangerous with just a slingshot.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT It seemed impossible to stop smiling in Guinevère's company. As she spoke of joining them, his heart longed for nothing more. "I'd like that," he told her sincerely. Leaning towards her a bit, he couldn't help but playfully add. "I hope you won't be disappointed with the older me," he said jokingly. He knew that much was different but . . . kids had a way of changing a person. And even then, things didn't seem different at all. Not with the way they so easily were able to be in each other's company. Though Arthur knew the talk they had some days ago were huge reason for it. He looked at the children as they came, watching his daughter beam with joy as she sat close to Guinevère.
"Papa! Make sure you watch! I want flowers in my hair every day!" Arthur chuckled, playing into his daughter's enthusiasm. "I don't think I can do as good a job." Mirela was hardly discouraged. "Practice makes perfect!" Arthur was suddenly eating his words. "Lady Guinevère! Can you please teach my papa?!" Arthur just shook his head playfully. "Look at what you've done," he said teasingly towards Gwen. When his sons came to join him, Alymere sat on one side, where Galahad sat on the other. And shortly after, Lunete joined him, commenting she had never met a prince. Galahad was not amused.
"Well there's another one over there," he stated bluntly, pointing to his brother. "Go meet him!" He added on, as he tried to shift away a little from Lunete. Arthur couldn't help but watch with both . . . surprise and amusement at the pair, as he started to make plates for everyone. Alymere looked at Guinevère when she asked him, his lips curling into a smile. "I do," he confirmed, trying to contain his excitement but it was still evident. "Father has started me on the sword. I hope to learn the crossbow next," he said, looking at Arthur eagerly before turning back to Guinevère. "I hope to be a good knight one day. To serve with honour and valour." "And to fight!" Galahad added in. It was clear which one took their studies more seriously.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur listened as Guinevère explained that Lunete hadn't made many friends yet . . . and that she was used to play in open areas. "Both you and her are welcome in the gardens anytime," he offered, hoping Guinevère would make good on it by coming frequently. He knew how much she loved flowers, and that seemed to be something that had rubbed off on her daughter. "Mirela loves it here as well. It would be a good place for the children to play often." Should Guinevère wish for it because Arthur . . . wanted that for the children.
"How is she finding the city?" Arthur asked, passing Guinevère a plate. Galahad made a face, clearly not liking being accused of hiding! "Because I didn't want to!" He countered. "There's a difference." He wasn't sure he should have come down after all since he'd just been forced to give a flower and then was hugged! Mirela continued to grin excitedly as Lunete said that they were going to put flowers in her hair! OH! She couldn't wait! "We can put some in Galahad's too!" She giggled.
That, prompted Galahad to make a face and stick his tongue out at Mirela. His hair might be long enough for it but there was NO chance he was getting flowers put in his hair! "I wasn't hiding! And if I'm not here when you get back, it's because I don't want to be." Reinforcing his earlier point. But, that was when he heard his father's voice call him, as if his papa had anticipated he was going to leave. Alymere motioned for Galahad to listen, as the second son ran towards his father and . . . her.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur looked at her as she offered to bring Lunete to play in the gardens with Mirela, a soft smile on his lips. "That would be wonderful," he told her, hoping his appreciation was evident in his voice, though he wished to verbalize it too. "Thank you, Guinevère," he added. "That truly means a lot." To know that she would bring her daughter here to spend time with his own. Whether in his absence or not. But, especially when he was not here. He then watched her pull out a dress and his smile only grew. He touched the fabric between his fingers, admiration in his gaze at the wonderful gift.
"It's beautiful," he praised. "You do realize though that Mirela will never leave you alone now? After promise of braids, flowers, and now a dress." He was teasing . . . but part of him meant it. Though there were female servants, and the wives of the knights . . . the latter did not always stay at course, and the former were only there temporary to be at her service. "This will mean a great deal to her," he said, not taking it for he wished Guinevère to give it to her. "You spoil us," he said playfully with a slight chuckle when she spoke of a picnic. "I would love to." Though, they seemed to be on the same mind, for he had already had a blanket at the ready. He spread it out and motioned for Guinevère to sit down, before glancing at their children for a brief moment.
"I am brave!" Galahad said arguing with her. "I just felt like climbing a tree," he added in a matter of fact tone of voice. When she hugged him however, his entire body stiffed, his arms at his side unmoved and stiff . . . as if he had suddenly turned into a statue. "I didn't give them to you! Mirela did!" "Nuh uh! It is from you!" She said with a big smile. Galahad made a face and moved to squirm out of the hug. "That is so unnecessary!" Yes! Galahad could use big words too. Mirela took Lunete's hand in hers and grinned up at the girl. "You should add that flower to your hair!" She suggested excitedly.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur chuckled at her greeting, taking a couple of steps towards her. "I am," he confirmed. He hated riding out and leaving his children. He still recalled the first time he had done it and it had been so incredibly difficult. But sometimes, it was inevitable. "I wish I did not have to," he admitted. "Being apart from the children is difficult." He gazed at the four children all seeming to get along. "But, it is for them that this is necessary." To build a kingdom that they would govern over, together.
Galahad folded his arms across his chest when she asked him if he was a prince. "I am, obviously," he stated, as if it was indeed the most obvious thing ever! Alymere gave him a look and Galahad just rolled his eyes at his brother. It was in that moment that Mirela came running back to join them, holding out a flower to Galahad.
"You didn't give her anything when she came! Give this to her! I have more for my hair!" Galahd just stared at the flower and made a face. "Give it! Its rude to not give a present!" Galahad's face remained, but with Mirela's insistence, and knowing she would tattle on him, he took the flower and held it out to Lunete. "Here," he said, turning his head to the side and looking away from her as he held out the flower.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Mirela's eyes widened with excitement over the thought of getting her hair done so pretty! Lunete even offered that Guinevère would do it. She looked to her father. "Oh! Papa! Can I? Can I? Can I? Pleeeaaaaassssseeeeeee?!" She was practically bouncing and Arthur couldn't help but chuckle with amusement at the sight. "You have to ask Guinevère nicely first," he told her. She spun around, holding her friend's hand tightly as she skipped over to Guinevère. "Lady Guinevère! Can you please make my hair as pretty as yours and Lunete?! And flowers! I'll get some more flowers for my hair!" She ran off to pick some more, not wanting to take from the bouquet she had made for them. Meanwhile, Alymere listened to her response, his smile growing a little at the mention of Uther and then Merlin.
"Then you were definitely here a long time ago," he pointed out. For even Alymere had not met his grandfather. "Maybe you and Uncle Merlin can come here now? It's a very nice place." Alymere enjoyed the calm it had. Though Mirela loved it the most. He turned his gaze to look at Lunete as she moved to the tree, asking if he was stuck. Alymere then took a couple steps towards her. "He is fine," he assured her. "I can speak for myself!" Came a voice from the tree. "Yes, but it would mean more if we could actually see you," Alymere pointed out. Deciding that that was enough reason to come down, the older son stepped away to give Galahad some space. With that, Galahad moved down, and swung from the branch, as if to make a grand entrance, and landed directly in front of Lunete. "I'm Galahad."

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur felt his heart swell with emotion as he watched the children, so effortlessly getting along. Mirela practically beamed when Lunete commented on her dress. "Thank you! Yours is pretty too! And I like your hair! It has flowers!" She exclaimed excitedly with a bright smile. Mirela wasn't used to getting to talk about dresses and hair on a daily basis with her brothers.
Well, she did but there was feigned interest. Or at least one made the effort to feign it. The other outright complained that he didn't want to hear it. Alymere looked at Guinevère with a continued polite smile. "What has changed the most since you were last here?" He asked. Arthur admired that about his son. He was inquisitive, always seeking knowledge. He glanced up at the tree, hearing the rustling and knew he was going to have to get Galahad down before he broke his other foot. But first, he'd allow Guinevère and Lunete a moment with his children. Allowing the conversation to naturally progress.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT The children were settled in the garden . . . perhaps a little too settled. Mirela had been meticulously picked flowers, creating two bouquets for their guests. "I need more purple ones!" She exclaimed, running around looking for the perfect flowers. Alymere was following her, holding what she had already picked. Galahad was . . . displeased about being here. "Why do I have to play with girls?!" Arthur had told him that they were friends and it would be good of them to meet. Galahad's excuse was that he had already met one, but Arthur had warned him to be respectful. Polite. Unlike the last time he had met Guinevère.
When a servant came to announce that their guests had arrived, Arthur smiled and told his children to get ready. Leaving them with a trusted servant, Arthur went to the entrance to greet them. He had to swallow back how it felt to see Guinevère. As if it was twenty years ago and he was seeing her in all her beauty for the first time. "Guinevère, Lunete. Thank you for coming," he greeted. He stopped in front of them, a smile upon his lips. "You both look beautiful," he stated, his eyes on Lunete when he said the words though. "Come. The children are waiting in the garden. They are very excited to meet you," he told Lunete. The walk was not long until they arrived. In perfect expectation, Mirela stood there next to Alymere, who was holding a bouquet in either hand and Galahad was . . .
"Sire," the servant said, seemingly exasperated. "The prince has climbed up into the tree and refuses to come down." Arthur looked up at where he saw the rustling of the branches and leaves. Taking a slow, deep breath, he kept a smile on his lips. "Thank you Eric." With a bow, the servant moved away and Arthur instead, focused on the two present children. "I'd like to introduce Mirela, and Alymere." Mirela was already taking the bouquets from her brother and walking up to Guinevère and Lunete. She gave a small curtsy and a bright smile. "These are for you!" Extending the bouquets, she got distracted by the flowers in their hair. Alymere then began to approach as well. "It is good to meet you both," Alymere stated respectfully with a polite smile and a bit of a bow.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur smiled with amusement at the thought of braiding his own hair . . . her tease of how it was long only adding to it. When she touched his hair it felt, oddly natural. And he didn't mind it, at all. "I still would not trust Merlin with my hair," he said jokingly towards his friend. "Besides, if you are going to convince anyone, perhaps attempt to convince Galahad." He hated getting a hair cut and now it was growing out. Arthur blamed Gwaine for his encouragement, not that Galahad needed any. When she thanked him, told him how it was not easy to speak of things . . . Arthur agreed with her. It needed to be said.
"I agree," he told her. "It was important that we have this conversation. And, I am glad we are able to move forward." Because what held them in the past, was all out there now. They spoke of their spouses, their children . . . their lives apart. Realizing that he had stayed here for quite some time, he began to rise to his feet. He didn't wish to leave, but he knew he could not over stay his welcome. "I hope for the same," he told her when she said she hoped their daughters could be good friends. "I look forward to them all meeting." And hoped, that her second meeting with Galahad would go better than the first. "Thank you, Guinevère. For everything." He let his gaze linger upon her for a few moments before lowering his head and leaving her home. He took a deep breath before making his way down the streets of the city. Relief washing over him that the air between them was now lighter. They could focus on the present. On the future. Rather than dwell in the past.
The days that followed were of the usual routine. Arthur spent as much time as he could with Galahad, though his siblings were helping take care of him too. He knew his son pretended to hate every minute of it . . . but deep down, even Arthur could see his enjoyment. After a week the crutches were unneeded and a few days after, he was walking once again. Which, was both a blessing and a curse. For Galahad was certainly making up for lost time as he bounded around the castle, city, training arena . . . and any which way he could go. Arthur had spoke of Lunete prior and Mirela kept asking to meet her, already seeming to think they were friends. So when Galahad was fully recovered, and things seemed fairly settled, he extended the invitation to Guinevère, wishing to honour his earlier suggestion of them all meeting . . . in the gardens.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur let out a huff of amusement, trying to hold back a chuckle, as he shook is head upon hearing what his son had done and asked. "I do not know how he is not disturbed by such things," he said, though with both concern and fondness. Fondness, because he would not change his son. But, he could see something in him. A greatness in being a knight. One that would lead the army of Camelot after his brother. He then softly smiled upon hearing Guinevère speak of wanting a son, but how it was not meant to be. "Elena, had said the same thing about a daughter." She had wanted one and . . . cruel irony had it so that the year she birthed one, was the year she left this world.
Not dwelling on the dark subject, his smile grew when Guinevère offered to make a dress for Mirela. "You don't have to do that," he assured her. "But she would indeed love it." Despite her being surrounded by boys, she enjoyed the girly things that a young daughter would. "I fear she is constantly surrounded by boys." Him, her brothers, Merlin, the knights . . . it was fortunate that the knights had daughters but they also would only occasionally come to court. "It would be good, for her to spend more time with other females." Lunete and Guinevère. "Besides, I could always use some tips on braiding hair," he added on jokingly, but also with truth. For sometimes Mirela wanted him to do her hair and while he tried . . . he knew it was never as good as a woman's touch.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur softly smiled at the thought of bringing them all together when Galahad was recovered. "That sounds like a good idea," he agreed. He knew it was already hard for his son to not move around as much as he'd like. It put him in a bit of a . . . bad mood. Arthur then listened to Guinevère explain that Lunete had watched her father die, his sympathy going to the poor girl, as he knew that must have been difficult. "That couldn't have been easy," he acknowledged. Though, he was glad to hear that at least she had recovered, where as Auden had not been so fortunate.
"Children react different ways," he began to say. "Some find it easier to cope by talking about it. Others, remain quiet." Arthur's own children were different in how they handled their mother's death. "If speaking about it helps her, then I will not discourage her from doing so. Only, to be prepared in that Alymere may offer comfort but not remain on the subject. Mirela does not understand. And Galahad . . ." Arthur paused for a moment, a bit of a smile on his lips as he shook his head. "Will ask for all the details." Which, she might not be willing to give. Something Arthur didn't blame her for at all. He wasn't sure what his son's fascination was with wounds and gore. "The most important thing is that she is comfortable. And I will do whatever I can to accommodate that." Even if it meant talking about it before hand to his children.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur paused when he felt her lips on his cheek, once again, awakening a sensation he had not felt since . . . the last time they had kissed. He tried not to let it surface. Let to keep those emotions that she always ignited within him at bay. Fortunately, she passed him a cup of water and it allowed him to focus on something else . . . as did the topic of conversation. "Thank you," he said. For the water. She spoke of not holding a grudge against Galahad and, Arthur knew she wouldn't.
But, he also knew that he could not ask too much of Guinevère. It was not his place to. "I did not think you would," he assured her. "But I am also aware that he is, difficult to get to know. And I hope you are not discouraged from doing so due to, recent events." Due to what Galahad had said to her in his state of upset. Arthur smiled at her tease, his hands curling around the cup to prevent himself from reaching out to her . . . with their close proximity. Friends. "You say that as if its a bad thing," he teased in return. "Perhaps we can arrange for our children to meet," he suggested. "After all, I owe you and your daughter an invitation to the gardens in the daylight." An offer he had not forgotten.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT King. Years later and it still felt surreal in some moments. To know that the kingdom depended on his rulings. His decisions. His way of governing. She spoke of peace and he wanted to believe it. Perhaps, he did to an extent. Yet the fear of Morgana was still strong in his heart. He supposed that it was normal for kings to make powerful enemies. He just, still could not fathom that it was Morgana. His sister. But such thoughts were to be put to rest. For Guinevère was right; it was best they focus on the present. On the decisions they make, not the ones that they made. He slowly nodded in agreement.
"I remember you saying similar words to me in the past," he said with a soft smile. To rule with his heart. His father had often told him the opposite. He'd learned, the difficult way, to rule with both. One, more than the other. "I hope for that." For he still held doubts in his capabilities as both a sovereign and father . . . and friend. The word sounded so simplistic for all that was between them. But, it also was fitting. For at the very, very least . . . she was a friend. Though in his heart, he knew she was always much more than that. "Then as a friend . . . " He began to say, an almost tease in his voice though it was light under the weight of all that had been discussed.
"Please do not let Galahad's words and actions be between you two." He knew that they were going to cross paths again. He knew he often advocated for his son, but, with Guinevère it was different. "I know it is much to ask," he added on, wanting her to know that he was aware of that. He just requires time. And patience. The latter he knew Guinevère had ample of considering how she had tolerated Arthur when he was once that arrogant prince. "Perhaps one day soon, our families can meet," Arthur suggested. For he knew that it would only be a matter of time until Guinevère met his other two children. And, if they were to move on from the past . . . perhaps this could be a way to do that.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Fear. Yes. His father had lived in fear of magic his entire life. That fear, had turned into hate. Just as Morgana's had. It could lead to such corruption, and Arthur's own fears . . . where more of his children's future. Yet, it was true. He would never isolate them. He learned from his past what he did not wish for his children to endure. He knew from his own upbringing, what he did not wish for his children to experience. And he knew from Morgana's wrath . . . what he wanted for them in each other. She then spoke of her husband, and a part of him was glad for it. That she had found a husband, found love, and was able to create a life out of that love.
"I was glad for you, Guinevère," he told her truthfully. "Glad that you were able to find happiness." Even if it was with another. Perhaps it was their children that truly kept them going. That introduced to them a new kind of love. That of parenthood. Arthur closed his eyes when she rested her forehead against his shoulder, and slightly nodded in understanding. He knew what she meant. But when she spoke of the what if's . . . Arthur knew he had asked himself such questions repeatedly. Especially in the early years of his marriage to Elena.
"Morgana's heart held darkness since the moment we found her." Her betrayal had lasted for months. He did not wish Guinevère to feel like her presence her, played any part in Morgana's wrath. In fact, it was a relief that she was not here to witness it first hand. He remained silent following her words, allowing them to sink in. He knew that such were the burdens of not only being a parent, but a king. Sometimes he wished he could take his children away from this place. To live that life of a farmer. A simple one. But a safe one. Alymere was on the path to being crowned prince, and the burdens that came with that . . . he wished he could lift them from his son's shoulders.
"I just hope, that an era of peace will soon be upon us. And that the light will continue to overpower the darkness." But, he feared it would not be so until Morgana was no longer a threat. Until she was dead. He slightly turned his head to the side, lips brushing against the side of her head from this angle, before he slowly drew his head back to look at her. "I wish you did not know the loss of a spouse," he told her. He meant it. His own selfishness was not strong enough to wish that Guinevère's husband had died. He wished her to not suffer that loss. Just as he wished Lunete did not know the loss of a father. "But, I'm glad you're here." He could not deny that much. "Your presence is . . . a great comfort." To say the last, but right now, he knew it was the safest thing to say.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur curled his fingers around her hand, holding it and though the gesture seemed so casual, the sensation sent a warmth through his entire body. He took in her words, speaking of how Elena would not be able to handle this better. That it was something she knew little about and . . . that was certainly a good thing. She had found out the truth along with him. About his father's lies. About Morgana's betrayal. All of it. He hated that she was pulled into this world . . . that she was forced into it without having any choice. "How can I explain it?" He asked softly, almost rhetorically. He had spoken of his family to his children by Alymere was the one who held the most understanding. He had been five when Morgana killed their mother.
"That because of ones tyranny, it forced another to rule with the same cruelty." Because, Morgana had taken over. Twice. "I know my father was not easy to love," he admitted, and never expected anyone -- especially Guinevère -- to sing any praises. "But he risked his life for me." Because of Odin's hatred towards Arthur. "He died . . . because his daughter hated him, and killed him." Arthur suddenly felt the sting of tears in his eyes, shaking his head a little as he closed his eyes in attempt to force them away. How could he explain Morgana's descent to darkness without raising more questions about his father? Questions, that would not be easy to answer. He wished his children would be better than Arthur ever was but . . . he feared the path he would lead them down. He needed guidance. They needed better guidance than what he could give them.
Unable to stop the tear, Arthur quickly brushed it away opening his eyes once more, hearing Gwen speak of telling Galahad he loved him. "I tell them everyday," Arthur confirmed quietly. "But . . . I'm just so scared, Guinevère." Scared of what the future held for them. Scared for the burden that was placed upon them. One that he felt so keenly after Elena's death. And now, with rumours of Morgana resurfacing. With the talk among the council. Of leaving his children orphaned. Her next question caused him to take a slow breath. Did he love her. Did he love Elena. He parted his lips, as if breathing suddenly became difficult. But he would not be a coward in his answer. He looked into Guinevère's eyes, owing her the truth.
"Yes," he practically breathed. "I grew to love her." She was an incredible woman, who deserved far better and the two of them, loved each other. "But not as . . . " He paused, brushing away another tear as he tried to get himself in control. Guinevère always had this way of looking deep into his heart, and drawing out things that he long kept guarded. It felt so natural to do so, even though it had been twenty years. "It was between us." A natural love. A love that never faded. A love that had consumed his very soul.
"I think . . . she knew." Another admittance. "And I hated myself every day for it." For trapping her in this life. For never being able to give her his whole heart. Looking at his children now, he continued to feel that guilt. That self loathing that now placed them motherless. He sniffed a little, looking away in shame for what he had done to both Guinevère and Elena that day he had agreed to marry them. "It would have been you," he said in thought, painful thought. It would have been Guinevère who was killed by Morgana.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur noticed her shift positions . . . shift, to kneel in front of him. She raised her hand to touch his cheek and he closed his eyes once more. Selfishly, basking in her touch. A touch that he had not felt in 20 years, yet one that still brought unimaginable comfort. He wished it were true. That he was enough for their children, yet he only placed more upon their shoulders. "That's because they do not yet fully understand the magnitude of what happened." Of what he had done. What he was responsible for. And when they did . . . there would be questions.
He already knew his sons heard talk of sibling feuds. Of him and Morgana. Of what the future would bring for Alymere and Galahad. Alymere was getting closer to understanding everything -- if he did not already. He opened his eyes, looking at her through an emotional gaze . . . leaning into her touch and knowing, this was not fair to her. But then, she spoke of how her son sounded like him, and asked about his daughter. Mirela.
"She has no memory of her mother," Arthur answered quietly. "She longs for it, but still sees only light in this world." Innocence. The absence of any darkness. Something that he wished he could forever protect her from. "Some speak of inevitable tension that will arise between Galahad and Alymere." Just as there had been tension of who was rightful heir to the throne between him and Morgana. Arthur focused a great deal on fostering the relationship between his children.
"Galahad does, not react well to it." It was another reason that he acted out; that he was so defensive . . . that he was overly strong willed. "My name is used as example of how it happens." Of how Morgana and him had fought for the throne. "His mother would . . . know how to handle this." Where as he didn't. Because his family was filled with those who lied and betrayed one another.
His children represented an innocence that he wasn't certain the Pendragons had ever truly had . . . and Arthur was terrified of how he would taint that in the future. "I'm sorry," he apologized softly, looking at her with soft intent. "I should not be burdening you with such things." Because . . . she was not his wife. And it was a blessing to not be. For if she had been, she would be dead. It seemed to be a curse to take the name Pendragon.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Arthur thought over his eldest child upon hearing Guinevère ask how he dealt with it. "He is, quiet about it," Arthur told her honestly. "Reflective." Arthur knew Alymere tried to be strong for everyone, which was why it was so important to have alone time with him. He did not wish for his oldest son to suffer in silence nor carry a burden unvoiced. "But her death was the hardest on him." Even if he didnt show it as much as Galahad did.
Guinevère knew Arthur well. He once told her she could read him like a book and that much had not changed. He knew the words could not have been easy to say, but Arthur slowly nodded his head . . . for it was true. He wished they had not lost their mother. "I'd give anything, to take her place." To trade places with her. He was the one meant to die under his sister's wrath; not Elena. He had loved his wife and her death had created a void in his family. Just as Arthur knew Gwen must have loved her husband. It was just . . . a different kind of love.
It was true; the irony in that they were not raised with mothers. She spoke of how they were lucky to have him and Arthur couldn't agree. His very existence endangered them and he didn't know how best to protect them. Physically and emotionally. "I do," he answered when she asked if he talked about her. He did not wish to do as his father had, never speaking of his mother. "Galahad pretends not to be interested but I know he listens." And Arthur didn't know if that caused him more or less pain. "I have caused them so much pain," Arthur said, knowing the emotions were starting to get the better of him. Admitting things he had had not admitted to anyone. "And I fear, they will resent me for it." If not now, then when they were older. Like Morgana. Or worse . . . that they would resent each other.

Tag: Guinevère Note: Better layout coming soon! for the love OF CAMELOT Guinevere asked for the reason and Arthur wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing that Galahad had a reason for doing what he did. "He was upset with his tutor," Arthur explained. "So he doused the books that he knew he was going to use for their lessons." Because he had failed his test. Arthur thought back to when he was Galahad's age, and how he would be far too afraid of his father to do such a thing. He supposed in some ways, it was good Galahad did not fear him to that extent. But . . . Arthur knew it was still wrong of him to do such things. All thoughts on the subject of itching powder ceased when Guinevère asked her next question. His gaze fell, and his jaw clenched at the mention of . . . Elena. And yet, he was grateful she asked it. Proving how much stronger she was then him.
"He was two," Arthur answered quietly. "It's, been very hard on him." Though only two, it was old enough to know what it was to have a mother, only to have her cruelly snatched from this world. "Alymere deals with her loss differently. But Galahad . . . " Arthur paused for a moment, trying to compose himself long enough to have this conversation, with the woman that he loved. He raised his gaze to look at her. "He misses his mother." A lot. All three of his children did, though Mirela did not know what it was to have a mother. Alymere internalized, which was why Arthur made sure that they talked about it, so that the emotions wouldn't eat at him. "And acts out because of it." And, because of so many other reasons that Arthur wished he could help him through.
"I wish . . . " Arthur's voice trailed off, his gaze falling as he tried once again, to maintain composure. But thinking of Elena, thinking of what his children had lost . . . because of his family of blood -- Morgana -- was not something so easily talked about. He wished they didn't feel the pain of losing a mother, yet saying that in front of Guinevère . . . felt odd. He did not wish Elena dead, but . . . it was just an odd, unfamiliar conversation to have. So instead, he left the sentence unfinished. "The loss of a parent is difficult on any child." Both he and Guinevère had faced it at a young age. First their mothers, then their fathers. And ironically, Guinevère's father had also been executed on order of Arthur's own. Besides, Guinevère would know such a thing as her daughter lost a parent too.
