.:Name: Gaius .:Nick Name: None. .:Status: Alive .:Age: 70 Years Old
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance: Gaius stands at about an average height, though some would say he's shrinking in his old age. Gaius' hair is shoulder length and bone white, parting on either side of his sallow face. His hair used to be a deep brown before he got older and it thinned and lightened. His eye color is a darker blue, in his younger years his eyes were a brighter hue. Gaius has an average figure and a usually kind face. .:Height: 5'11" .:Portrayed by: Richard Wilson
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality: Gaius is a very personable man that enjoys the company of his trusted friends. He tends to be very sensible and a highly rational thinker in most situations. However, as kind and giving as Gaius is, he tends to keep secrets. Especially from Uther Pendragon, there are things he believes the King need not know. Still, Gaius remains very loyal to the King even going so far as to risk his own life. Loyal, stubborn, dedicated, and strong willed, Gaius thoroughly enjoys his job as the Courts Physician.
.:Special Skills: Gaius is a skilled Physician and knowledgable Warlock. Due to his loyalty to King Uther, Gaius' magic remains, for the most part, unused.
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace: An outlying village of Camelot. .:Family: Merlin { Views As A Son } .:Occupation: Court Physician .:History: Before the King's war on Magic, Gaius was known as both the Court Physician and the Court Sorcerer. He took pride in his dual role in the Kingdom until Uther sent him to recieve Nimueh. Gaius didn't believe using Magic to achieve an Heir was the right path but he knew he had to obey. After Nimueh's help which subsiquently led to the death of the Queen, the war against magic began. With Uther stricken by grief, the King blamed the whole of the magical community and began the Great Purge. Gaius decided to resign his role as the Court Sorcerer and pledge to not use his magic again out of loyalty to Uther. During the Great Purge, Gaius was a big part in smuggling different members of the magical community out of Camelot and into safety. This included his former lover Alice. After the Great Purge was more or less over, Uther's hatred for magic remained. Gaius did what he could to disuade the King's worries but now and again a new threat would arrive and be executed like so many before. Gaius wasn't sure about what the future would hold for magic but he had to believe it would be better than this.

The past weeks since the Lady Ygraine's death had been scorned not with just her death but with those of countless others. Innocents burned for a gift they were both with. Exhaling Gaius picked up a scroll and began writing -a letter to his beloved Alice- , he was trying to block out the screams that continued outside.
Glancing up briefly he noticed Uther in the doorway, absentmindedly he moved some papers over the scroll he was writing on and spoke. "Ah my king, come in." Rising to his feet he walked forward a few paces. "What can I do for you sire?"
OOC: My apologies for the late response.

Gauis walked into the library, nodding a hello to his old friend before grabbing the book he had requested. The sorcerer in hiding began swiftly walking back toward his chambers, book already open. He knew his way through the castle well enough he didn't need to look up, only step around others.
Nudging the door open to his chambers he hesitated near the corner of his room, a certain line in his book had captured his attention. It was a line about the possibility of a cure for a rare disease. Chuckling to himself he was about to turn the page when he heard the all to familiar voice of Nimueh "Gauis."
Snapping the book shut he turned and gazed incredulously at her. "Nimueh what on earth are you doing here? Do you realize your on the executor's list! You could be killed if found." Sighing a smile tugged at his mouth. "Not that it isn't good to see an old friend of course."
OOC: My greatest apologies for the late reply. [/size]

A small smile tugged at the corner of the physicians mouth as he nodded to her question "Are you sure?"Chuckling lightly he smiled "Yes, I am sure Caitrin. Nothing else will fit with the symptoms. "
As she took the herb he pulled out a book and flipped to a certain page and put an X through rosemary meaning he would need to collect more immediately. "Will it ease the sickness?" Hesitating he slowly shook his head smiling sympathetically. "I'm afraid not dear, the sickness is a natural part of the pregnancy."
OOC: My utmost apologies for the late reply!!

"What do you mean it depends if it is natural or not? What else could it be?" Gaius smiled reassuringly eyes twinkling with knowledge. "Well Caitrin. By natural or not I mean, if it is just an illness or if your...well pregnant." his reply was soft as if hoping not to scare the poor girl.
"I could have started with that sooner.." he rambled to himself shaking his head at the foolishness of it all. All of the symptoms pointed to the possibility of her being pregnant.
Laughing to himself he got up and went to his herb supplies that he had been organizing, shuffling through it he pulled out a sprig of rosemary and held it out to her "Here take this with some tea each morning for the next month. It will help your body adjust. If you need more, I will be here as always." he murmured with a smile.

"Hmm. I see. Have you had this illness before? Or is it new?" Gaius folded his hands together in thought, eyes traveling the contents of his small hobble of a house. "Is there anything to stop it?"Her question made Gaius think twice wondering for himself if there was a way to stop it. "It depends if it is natural or not." he shrugged.

"Come in, come in. Please do sit down Caitrin." Gaius offered a warm smiled back at her. "I need your help." Everyone seemed to want Gaius's help these days but yet he didn't mind his schedule kept him busy and atleast for what he knew kept Merlin out of trouble. "What seems to be the problem" he asked immediately. "I have been stricken with a sickness for the past few weeks." "Sickness?" he shuttered slightly almost preparing for the worst but went on with his questions "How many times a day goes this occur when it does occur, and at what times during the day." he asked folding his hands together in his lap. "Of course I can bring up an analysis provided you answer my questions truthfully" he smiled lightly again, reassuring.

Gaius enjoyed his time back in the castle, shuffling about in his quarters, ordering Merlin around somewhat, and tending to his beloved patients. Taking this free time Gaius was currently sorting his many herbs, from A to Z then by size and shape.
He moved from his herbs to the small vials of different sorts, before he could start on organizing then he heard the wooden door creak without looking he spoke "Merlin if thats you, I hope you've brought me my rosemary-" breaking off he glanced at the shape in the doorway.
Realizing it wasn't his apprentice but miss Caitrin he smiled "Oh Hello." “Gaius? I need to speak with you if it is convenient?” "Yes I'm available at the moment, how can I help you?"

.:History:.
Gaius's young life is a mystery to most except for himself, but as he got older and began to practice magic he met Uther and became his friend. Then soon became court physician, life was well as he secretly continued his study of magic until Uther asked him to seek our the Priestess Nimueh, he wanted his wife Ygraine to bare him a heir.
Taking the kings task he went to the Isle of Blessed and asked on Uthers behalf for his Queen to have a child. Nimueh agreed, knowing a life must be taken for one to be given. Gaius and Uther didn't know this. So when Ygraine gave birth to her son Arthur she died, Uther seeking vengeance on Nimueh blamed all magic and set a law that anyone found practicing sorcery in his kingdom would be executed.
Gaius now knew he must stop practicing magic, but every once and a while he would use it, but only at an emergency. When Uther showed Gauis the list of people to be executed for using magic, he was horrified to see Alice his beloved's name on the top. Quickly crossing it out he fled to her and warned her to leave the city.
From that day forward he was alone in his chambers, working loyally beside Uther and watching many innocent people die for Uthers own mistake. When Merlin arrived Gaius was surprised to notice the boy had magic, and warned him not to use it in public lest he wanted to be slain.
Gaius now teachers Merlin, and helps him along in his journeys to save Arthur and keep his destiny in check, as long as Albion would live then so would magic.
