Master the Rules of the Game Until You Play It Better than They Can

“Now, Lady Cornelia, surely you do not believe that Lady Jane is actually sneaking around with one of her household servants,” remarked Lady Luciana skeptically, shooting the blonde haired, doll-like Lady Cornelia an incredulous glance with a bright gleam in her pearl gray eyes. Luciana knew Lady Jane well enough to know that she had more propriety than you fraternize with servants. Oh how Luciana missed the court gossip. She had always been good at sorting out which rumors were false and which were horrendously true. As Luciana and her friends continued on with their chatter, a wave of laughs, gasps, and whispers float through their little circle.
Then as Luciana’s lips parted to make another unconvinced remarked, she heard a familiar voice utter her name. Turning her head to the source of the voice, she realized that the crown prince of Camelot, Arthur Pendragon, was standing beside her. ‘Oh dear,’ thought Luciana taken aback a bit by the prince’s arrival, ‘I did not even see him approach.’
"It is wonderful to see you back in the graces of good health,"
With grace and poise, Lady Luciana curtsied deeply, the skirt of her gown fanning around her as her knees bent. Then she bowed her head from a brief moment, and said, with the utmost respect, “My lord.”
The other ladies quickly followed suit, each bowing to Prince Arthur. Then as Luciana lifted her head and rose from her curtsy, the other girls mimicked her like a clique following their queen bee. Then the ladies took their leave, telling Luciana that they talk to her later. After bidding her friends goodbye, Luciana returned her attention to Prince Arthur. He was still as handsome as ever with his flaxen blonde hair and his clear blue eyes. Luciana could not deny that.
“It is wonderful to be back, my prince. I have missed the excitement of court along with a few other… things, and I do not believe I will be leaving again any time soon. My brother is treating my like a porcelain doll. He’s probably lurking about, making sure I don’t trip over a stone,” replied Luciana as courteous as ever. Her elegant voice held a hint of playfulness as she spoke. Her light, pearl gray eyes gleamed enchantingly while still holding an innocent charm, and a demure, charming smile danced across her light rose pink lips. She had missed the prince’s company in the months of her illness. As more and more nobles of King Uther’s court moved to the Grand Hall, the courtyard was soon empty. However Luciana did not feel like going inside. She had been stuck inside for so many months that she had grown quite bored of being indoors. Besides there was bound to be a few more stragglers. She could afford to delay a little longer.
“I have grown so dreadfully tired. I do believe I shall stay outside for a little while longer,” stated Lady Luciana, turning her back to the golden haired prince and moving away from the statue a bit. Then, turning her head to look back at Arthur, she remarked, “Would you care to take a walk with me, my lord? I would so much like to hear about any adventures you’ve been on while I was gone.”

Lady Luciana did not like the look of the smirk of the man that stood before her, nor she like the look of the gleam in his eye. It was not like she knew exactly was she was doing. She was not a vigilante. It wasn’t like she made a habit of stopping to attempts of thieves of Camelot every time she walked out of her front door. That’s the guards’ job, not hers. Luciana was a lady. Her job was too look pretty, behave respectably, and most of all further her family’s interests. That was her role in life, and she was perfectly fine with it.
"And what if I do not?"
Luciana had not thought of what she would do if he were to refuse. She was used to being obeyed; it was very rarely that she was ever denied. Luciana hid her uncertainty with a mask of indifference.
"Are you going to dismount from your animal and make me?"
It was that statement that got on Luciana’s nerves. It was not the words, however, that bothered her; it was the tone it which it was said. ‘How dare he address me in such a tone! Clearly this man does not have any manners at all,’ thought Luciana, finding the thief’s lack of courtesy intolerable. Luciana had a feeling she was being baited into a situation she would later regret. Then, against her better judgment, Luciana dismounted her horse gracefully, showing that she was not intimidated by the man.
Then, with much bravado, Lady Luciana put herself between her horse and the man (with a reasonable amount of personal space between them), and replied without a hint of insecurity, “I do not know if it has escaped your attention, but I am a lady, and I expect to be treated as such. So when you address me, do not do so as if I were a harlot. I do not care if you are some sort of outlaw, I will not tolerate rudeness. Being rude is being weak.”
Finished her little speech, Luciana held her ground, the visage of nobility gracing her lovely face. Of course she had to look up at the man, he being taller than she was. That was another reason why she should have stayed on her horse. However her pearl gray eyes stared up into the man’s dark brown ones as if she were peering into his soul. At one point, Luciana broke her eye contact in order to survey her surrounding. She scanned the streets for any sign of a guard, but there were none to be seen. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the elderly man still leading his horse. She would have thought that he would have heard her. Perhaps he was hard of hearing.
“Now, sir,” stated Luciana, in a tone befitting a woman of her station, I request once more that you return those baubles, please.”

Master the Rules of the Game Until You Play It Better than They Can

Oh Luciana was not in a good mood tonight. She was fine before dinner, before her parents started fussing over her like she was dying. One little cough was all it took, and they we all over her. Are you all right? Are you still sick? Should we call the doctor? Then as soon as they said doctor, her brother was practically sprinting out the door to fetch a physician, before Luciana could even answer. Her family was making such a big deal over a sip of water going down the wrong pipe!
Well Luciana was not sick, and she was not going to be fussed over like a child. She was not a porcelain doll that was going to smash if it hit the floor. Needless to say dinner did not end well. Not excusing herself from the table, Luciana yelled to her brother to not step one foot outside the door, and then she stormed out the door. If her family did not want to get an earful, they would not follow her.
The Lady Luciana did not bother to change out of her fine powder blue gown, nor did she bother to remove any of her jewels. Her two small pearl headpieces still rested around her dark tresses, her simple gold and pearl earring still hung from her ears, and her lovely light turquoise pendant still draped from a string of pearls around her pale neck. It was a telltale sign that the rebel in Luciana was breaking out. After retrieving her horse from her family’s stable, Luciana bolted away from her home as fast as she could. Now all she needed was a destination.
When she was far enough away from her house, she paused her black Friesian at an intersection. One rode led to the main gate of Camelot. It was the route she usually took when she ran away for a bit. A long ride through the field outside the city wall did a world of good. Now the other street went to the market.
As her horse stood at the intersection, pawing at the ground, wanting to go, Luciana thought, ‘It’s too late for a run through the fields. The guards probably won’t even let you through the gate.’
Making up her mind, Luciana turned her horse down the street that led to the market. The street was practically vacant, so the lady nudged the stallion into a flowing canter. The skirt of her gown rustled behind her in the created breeze as her dark brown locks bounce with the horse’s movement. As she breathed, the cool night air filled her lungs, calming her down a bit. Maybe this would just be a leisurely ride around the city.
Upon arriving at the market, Lady Luciana saw that most people were going home for the night. Drinking songs filled the air as a group of drunken men wobbled away from a tavern, most likely their local haunt. On the other side of the street were a few ladies being escorted home by their gentlemanly husbands who were not intoxicated. Then, in the middle of the road, an old man was slowly leading his simple carthorse.
Then Luciana spotted something that was quite out of place for Camelot City: a knight was stealing from the elderly man’s cart. One question ran through Luciana’s mind: how could a knight steal from an old man? It was against the code of chivalry for goodness sake! As the thieving knight started to walk away, Luciana looked around for the guards, and of course it was just her luck that there were not any in sight. Well guards or no guards, the lady was not going to stand by and let the man get away with theft.
Luciana rode up to the so-called knight, sitting tall in her saddle with poise. Then maneuvering her large stallion in front of the man, she inquired, “What are you doing?” Her voice authoritative but hushed. Luciana stared down at the thief coldly with her lips pursed. Then she commanded, “Return those immediately.”

Master the Rules of the Game Until You Play It Better than They Can
[/blockquote]
The bright morning sun shone down on the beautiful city of Camelot. In the citadel, the nobles of Camelot gathered in the courtyard in front of the white, stone castle before they leisurely made their way into the castle. It was the same every morning: meet in the courtyard and then go to the grand hall with friends. It was like an unofficial tradition at court, but it was one the nobles kept.
Then two riders entered the stone courtyard, their horses’ hooves creating a great deal of noise. The one rider was a handsome young man with dark hair who was dressed as a knight with the insignia of the le Cordier house. The knight was none other than Sir Lucian le Cordier. The other rider was not a stranger to court either for the rider was Sir Lucian’s twin sister, the Lady Luciana. She was dressed splendidly in a dark blue gown with light blue, belled sleeves. The square neckline and v-shaped waistline were embroidered with silver thread, hand stitched by Luciana herself. Luciana wore her hair down; her dark locks cascading to her waist, catching the bright sunlight.
As Lucian dismounted his dark brown warhorse, whispers and murmurs began to fly around the courtyard like a swarm of flies. For three months, Luciana had been away from court due to illness, and her return had been a popular topic of conversation.
Giving his horse to a stable boy, Lucian proceeded to help his sister down from her horse, a black Andalusian named Nox. Luciana rolled her eyes when her brother reached up for her waist. She did not see why she needed assistance in dismounting her own horse. Sometimes Luciana thought her brother took his chivalry a bit too far; this time being one of them. However, like a good girl, she placed her hands on her brother’s broad shoulders and allowed him to lift her off of the dark Andalusian.
As the stable boy led both of the equines away, Sir Lucian asked in a concerned and brotherly tone,“Now are you sure that you will be alright? You do not feel faint or anything?”
“Lucian,” replied Lady Luciana in a gentle but firm voice, breaking away from her sibling’s grasp, “I will be fine. The doctor gave me a clean bill of health, remember? Now go and join the other knights.”
Her brother was about to say something else, but Luciana gave him a look, daring him to speak once more. Getting the hint, Lucian gave his sister a quick peck on the cheek and told her that he would see her later, and then he quickly made his way over to the other knights of Camelot.
With her brother gone, Lady Luciana sauntered gracefully towards her circle of friends, which consisted of a few ladies around her age, standing by the steps near the knight statue. The hem of her dark blue gown glided over the rows of stone as she moved with grace and poise. When Luciana joined her friends, each lady greeted Luciana and welcomed her back to court, smiling and laughing like always. Then the ladies began chatting away, catching Luciana up on all of the latest gossip, and Luciana put her two cents in for every rumor she heard, causing another fit of giggles to erupt from her friends. As their conversation went on, Luciana began to feel as if she had never left court.

.:Personality:.
{A Constant Lady} When Luciana walks down the street, she makes it blatantly obvious that she’s nobility for she carries herself with a regal air. She is extremely confident in her abilities but not overly. With political matters, she tries not to take anything too personal. Luciana tends to take the middle road to make everyone happy. Luciana is loyal to her friends and the kingdom of Camelot. She does not put a lot of stock in protocol and formality, and she just pretends she does for her parents' sake.
{The Other Side} At times Luciana will break from her noble act and be rebellious. She will act tomboyish and go riding on her black stallion still dressed in her finery. Luciana does not like to be told what to do because it makes her feels like a child. When she is bossed around, she does exactly what she was told not to do. Luciana doesn’t care what the consequences are of those actions for she believes that she can fix them later. She likes to show people that she can take care of herself. Luciana desires independence and hates being second to men.
{Just Put It Back Where You Found It} Luciana’s greatest pet peeve is clutter. We’re talking from one speck of dust on the floor to a room that looks like a tornado blew through it. Luciana just loathes disorder, thus she’s a neat freak. Whether it’s picking up after herself or cleaning up after others, if Luciana sees a mess she cleans it, and if she finds the one who made the mess she makes them clean it while she supervises them. Sometime the neat freak bit can get annoying, but cleanliness is next to Godliness.
{Now Mind Your Manners} Luciana is known for her courteousness towards others. She is never rude; at least she tries not to be. She believes that being rude is being weak. At times, Luciana will those she dislikes with cold civility. Luciana has a surprisingly long temper. She can hear a great deal of insults without becoming furiously irate. When Luciana does become angry, people know it. She doesn’t break her politeness, but she does go back to her room and throw a fit until she feels better.
{Piece of My Mind} Being educated, Luciana thinks herself an intelligent woman. She is scholarly, being adept in history and the languages art. Complex arithmetic is one of her weaker points, but she has the basics down. Luciana never really cared for combat or militaristic strategy that much, and seeing her twin’s talent for them, she let it have a backseat on her priorities. Also Luciana is very opinionated and likes to voice her opinions. She is careful about how she words her opinions; often editing what was originally in her mind.

.:Birthplace:. The House of le Cordier in Camelot City
.:Family:.
Lord Alaric le Cordier | Father | Noble of Camelot | Alive | 53 Lady Valeria le Cordier | Mother | Noble of Camelot | Alive | 41 Sir Lucian le Cordier | Twin Brother | Knight of Camelot | Alive | 20
.:Occupation:. Noblewoman of Camelot
.:Current Location of Residence:. The House of le Cordier in Camelot City
.:History:. It was on a fine day in spring in the city of Camelot when the House of le Cordier celebrated the birth of a son and heir as well a beautiful daughter. Now Lord and Lady le Cordier first named the boy, christening him Lucian. Alas the lord and lady were very unoriginal when it came to baby names, so they named their baby daughter Luciana. As babies, Luciana and Lucian were doted on by their nannies, the servants, and most of all their parents. Lord le Cordier was proud to have a son who he could raise to take over his title and maybe one day become a knight of Camelot, and Lady le Cordier was more than happy to have a daughter she could one dress like a princess. Oh yes, the youngest years of the le Cordier twins were most definitely the ones where they were the most spoiled.
When Lucian and Luciana were children, their parents hired a tutor for them, being the norm in most noble families. The tutor, Cassius, educated them in the fundamentals of reading, writing, arithmetic, and history. Both Lucian and Luciana did very well in their studies, giving their parents even more to boast about. It was when the twins reached their preteen years that Lord and Lady le Cordier noticed the individuality of their children. Lucian, who was growing into a strapping lad, had begun his training to be a knight, adding combat and tactics to his list of studies. Needless to say he enjoyed these subjects more than language arts and history, putting them on the back burning while he focused on his fighting skills. Unlike her twin, the blossoming Luciana excelled in reading, writing, and history. However she struggled with the more advanced mathematics, so she dropped it all together. Luciana felt knowing just basic arithmetic would be perfectly fine.
As years passed and her brother trained with her father, Luciana underwent a different kind of training from her mother. Until she was sixteen, Luciana was taught the art of being a courtier. She was trained in the social graces of etiquette, dancing, and even a bit of singing. Luciana also learned how to weave and embroider. She became quite skilled with a needle and a loom that soon she began creating tapestries and making her brother’s shirts.
After their sixteenth birthday, Lucian and Luciana went to the court of Uther Pendragon for the first time. Luciana had blossomed into an elegant young woman, while Lucian had turned into one of Camelot’s heartthrobs. Luciana was a success at court, much to her parents delight. Of course she was overjoyed, but she hid it, not wanting to seem proud. Of course her brother had to match her success by becoming a knight of Camelot, and unlike his sister, Lucian boasted of his achievement. Being the constant lady, Luciana climbed very high in the social circles of court, until one day she reached the top.
It was just another day at court, and Lord le Cordier asked Luciana to find her brother. Of course the task was not hard. Her brother was a knight, so he would be with the knights. Needless to say, the knights were not hard to find either; they were dressed in armor. Before she could beckon Lucian to come with her, her brother called her over to meet his new friends, and who should be among those friends but none other than Arthur Pendragon. Luciana was surprised to be introduced to the crown prince, but she hid it well with a demure smile and a curtsy. Soon after their first meeting, Luciana and Arthur became close friends. Her later teen years flew by in the whirl of King Uther’s court. Luciana became very popular at court, while her brother succeeded as a knight.
However towards her twentieth year, Luciana came down with a serious illness. At first it started off as an annoying cough, which she was given medicine for. Thinking it was nothing serious, Luciana continued to attend court and go on hunts with the prince and the knights. However it soon escalated to severe headaches, fever, and fainting. It was not long until Luciana was bedridden and quarantined at home. Cared for by servants and several doctors, Luciana’s heath did not worsen, but it did not get better. After three months of bed rest and consumption of the most disgusting medicine ever, Luciana slowly began to recover. Of course when she was healthy enough for visitors, Lucian was the first one through the door (it’s said that he shoved his parents out of the way.) Lucian took a leave of absence from service, much against Luciana’s approval, to help care to his sister. It only took Luciana one more month to fully recover, but she sent Lucian back to court before then. Now she looks forward to her first day back at King Uther’s court, eager to get back into the swing of things.
