.:Name of Character:. Merlin Caradoc .:Nick Name:. Merlin, Emrbys, Young Warlock, Idiot, You Fool, Boy *insert derogatory word of your choice here* .:Age:. nineteen .:Status:. peasant/servant
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Merlin appeared rather "stretched" and perhaps this is the result of genes that dictated that he row tall without proiding him with the groceries early in life. Alas, Merlin grew up as a peasant without a reliable food source, so he's bony and skinny to this day. His eyes are dark blue, but will flare gold when magic courses through his body. His skin is pale, but occasionally gets sunburned from working for Arthur. Large ears and a sharply-angled face add to his comical appearance. Oh, and his black hair is cut in a slowly-improving dorky haircut. .:Height:. 6'3" (he can't imagine Arthur's too happy about this) .:Portrayed by:. Colin Morgan
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Merlin is, to put it bluntly, a dork, but he's a nice dork. He's kind and he's always looking out for the underdog, despite his being an underdog in the closet of magical hiding. He's rather sneaky and very smart, as are essential to his very survival. He's passionate about his magic and great at playing stupid, not to mention he has great angry repression skills with occasional outbursts.
He's self-sacrificing and seems to do a lot of "taking one for the team", not to mention he gambles his own life freely, possibly without realizing it. He cries way too easily, unfortunately, but at least he's charming. He also has a strange habit of developing a crush on every attractive female to come to Camelot, even if it's temporary. He's great at keeping secrets, but he keeps his word, even if he's a little late.
.:Strengths:.
- skilled warlock/wizard/sorcerer/danger to the kingdom deserving of burning at the stake
- smart
holds his tongue well
- has a sense of humor
- puts up with crap well: long-suffering
- fast runner
- sneaky
- can read and write, learned shortly upon arrival to Camelot
.:Weaknesses:.
- unable to fight with weapons or defend himself very well, physically
- while he's good at coming up with excuses, they are unendingly lame excuses
- talks in his sleep, and the people around him often get the wrong impression and pick out the innuendo ("Arthur, go faster"). It's not what it looks like, people.
- cries easily
- clumsy
- chronically late
- makes promises often out of his control
.:Magic Abilities:.
- he's a warlock, a wizard, a sorcerer, whatever you want to call it. The point is, he uses magic and he's good at it.
.:Special Skills:. Mopping, cleaning armor, mucking out stables, saving lives and then giving the credit to his CLOTEPOLE of a master. You know, the usual rough, tough, save-the-world hero-type of stuff .:Accents:. British, with a hint of Welsh
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Ealdor, a small village in what will be known in about 1,000 years, as Wales .:Family:. Hunith, mother and Balinor, father (the latter of whom is unknown to Merlin), Gauis, something of an adopted father .:Occupation:. Arthur's manservant an .:Current Location of Residence:. Camelot, Gauis' chambers .:History:.
Merlin was born the son of a Dragon Lord and a villager woman, but from a young age, something set him apart from the other children in Ealdor, something that could later get him killed. Yes, Merlin was born with the gift of magic of the Old Religion. He could make things happen at will...and sometimes, not at will.
His mother would fret over him, constantly scared that someone might find out and do him in. But, though there were many close calls, the only person who ever found out was Merlin's best friend, Will. And luckily for Merlin, he and Will were close enough not to Will to go blabbing about his secret.
When Merlin was seventeen, raids began on Ealdor and his mother's fear for him increased for a state of constant worry. A group of peasants claiming to have found a witch was one thing, but knights bringing her son before a king was a significantly more dangerous matter. Finally, she did what she had hoped she would never have to do and wrote to Gauis, who was something of an uncle and a brother to her when she was growing up. Tearfully, she said goodbye to Merlin, knowing full well that she might never see him again, and sent him off to Camelot.
Upon his arrival, Merlin was set to work for Gauis, on whom he most unwisely used magic on the moment he saw him. Gauis, cranky at this, set about teaching him to read, write and run errands while constantly reprimanding him for his blatant use of magic.
On his first day in his new home, Merlin managed to tangle the wrong way with Arthur Pendragon and became his manservant after saving his life. From that point on, there's been a lot of insults, life-saving and being throne in prison and/or the stocks.
