Today was going to be a difficult day to get through for all Tom's friend and family. Everyone was gathered for his funeral, an unexpected dramatic death. Gawain was devastate, but he could only imagine what his dear daughter was going through. She lost her only family member, and it was a horrible thing to endure. When Gawain lost Emma, had he not had a daughter to care for, he would have lost himself. But now, Gwen was on her own. Well, sort of. She had close friends, for Gawain was not about to distance himself from her just because her father was dead. She was far too close a friend to do that.
He sent Emma home with his parents, and told them he was going to check on Guinevère. They began to head home while Gawain went towards Gwen. "Gwen," he said in a sad voice. "I am so sorry for your loss." It was a very generic thing but he was not sure what else he could say. He knew that when you lost someone, words made no difference. There was no vocal way to ease the pain of accepting the fact that the person was never going to be in your life; that you would never see them again. Gawain hated that she had to learn of this loss so young. "If there's anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask." He would try to be here for her as much as he possibly could. He had known her father too long to just walk away at his death. Tom helped Gawain by giving him work opportunities which in turn, helped cope with Emma's death. Now Gawain was going to do whatever he could to help Gwen through the process.

Gwen was numb. She felt cold. Not allot of people where there, but his friends were. She had cried most of the yesterday but today she only felt numb. As if nothing could touch her. No sorrow, not pain, not the sun's warm rays nor the people who seemed to want to speak to her. Everything sounded as if she was under water. As if it was far away. Not really beside her. Which was why she did not hear him speaking to her at first.
Her mind keep going to her father's 'crime' and his escape and how horridly unexpected this all was. She knew her father! Knew him like she knew her own heart! These actions did not fit in well with the man. These actions, were wrong with what she knew. Yet she had seen them. Watched them unfold. Knew them to be true. . . . didn't she? Didn't she kno--
She turned her head slowly, finally hearing his voice. He was asking if she needed anything. She opened her mouth to answer but her lips only formed the word No. Nothing a blacksmith could give her. She wanted her father back. Knowing she could not. She stood there, not turning to leave as if she was unaware it was time for everyone to start the long walk back to the city and lowertowns.

Poor thing! Gawain wasn't sure what to do as he knew that nothing would ease that pain. All he could do was offer emotional support, though he would not be offended if it meant nothing and did nothing for her. The fact that she wasn't talking....she seemed to be locked in a trance. Maybe everything for her was surreal right now. "Gwen, its time to go home." He gently placed his hand on her shoulder, hoping that she would be a bit more responsive, but still understanding it if she couldn't be.
"I'll walk you home." Whether she chose to react to his words or not, he did not mind. He was still going to escort her home, so that she would at least not be alone right now. "Are you ready?" It was nearly impossible to walk away from a loved one at a funeral. As if that was the final act of letting that person go. Gawain would not led his own pain over his loved one cloud the current situation. Today, it was about her father. It was about losing a dear friend, and a good man.

Gwen jumped slightly when he touched her, and both of her hands came up to hang on to his hand. She had not heard anything he said before then. He was going to walk her home? To where her father's things where? Her face crumpled up but no tears came, as she shook her head no. No she was not ready to go home. How could she make him understand?
Then she recalled he had lost his wife. Gawain just might understand. "I--I can't go back yet." She told him, "I kept waiting for him to come home last night." The whole house was filled with his bed, his clothes, his things. It still looked like her father's home. She wasn't sure if she could ever make it her home with out being sad and waiting for him. He was her family. Now there was only her brother, who was never here.

Gawain looked at her sadly, before looking ahead at the grave. "I completely understand." He did, maybe more than anyone else, unless they of course lost a father. Though the relationship of who he lost, and who she had lost was still completely different, it still created a hole in the heart that would never be mended. "Sometimes I still wait for her to come home," he told her, with a bit of a smile, though it was only a reflection of his already sad expression. He did not often talk about his late wife, for it was something that he needed to deal with silently...for Emma's sake. But maybe Guinevère was different. Maybe she would prefer to talk about her father.
He would have offered his house for her to stay at. Even if he wasn't there, his family still would be, but he knew of her duties and her work in the castle and staying in one of the outlying villages would be too much distance to travel on a daily basis. "He was a good man Gwen. And we'll see parts of him, every day in you." There wasn't much he could say, only the truth. Gawain did not care about what others said, he knew Tom and he knew that he did not have a cruel bone in his body. "He couldn't have left a better legacy," he added, referring to her of course.
