How could things get any worse? For days now Felicia stay hidden, enveloped in darkness, her eyes black and sunken, her skin pale and yellowing, any source of light penetrating her head. The pain was excruciating. At the best of times her daily pain was hard to cope with but now starving and dieing of thirst it had taken new heights. Her mother had only gone out to fetch some food and water. She never came back. Felicia had to make a choice; stay and die or pick up the courage, gather every last ounce of strength she had left and venture, for the first time in five years, outside and find food and water. She thought about what her brother would say. She couldn't just lie down and die - couldn't, wouldn't give in. The curse would not beat her.
First things first, she had to find some money. Every step agonising, weakening, she managed to find her mother's hidden stash and found enough to atleast feed and water her for two days. After that? She knew she had to do something. Find a way to earn money. But how, she had only barely had enough strength to put one foot in front of the other. Taking a deep breath, covering her head with her hood to stop as much light hitting her eyes as possible, she summoned her strength and headed, slowly, painfully, to find nourishment.

Maeve was in Camelot for much longer than she had initially intended. It was a dangerous city, and yet was one that held so much promise. She had already met so many interesting individuals, many of which were practitioners of magic and those who had the inherit gift of it. Who knew that in a city with such strict laws against it, would be the one which held so many of those people. Maeve was one of these people, though her intentions here were not that of a commoner. She was in desperate search of aid, and would of course, never give up until she found it, or until her race came to a complete end. She hoped the first option was the one that would occur.
As she walked the streets, searching for a suitable place to set up her small stall. She had her hood up and her cloak flowing freely, leaving a bit of a trail behind her. Her thoughts of finding a decent spot were distracted however when she felt something. It was a great weakness...something was not right. Maeve turned to see a young frail woman, who looked as if she could barley walk. Maeve sensed something else unique from her, but that was something she could not place. First things first, she had the instinctive need to help this poor girl. Did she need aid through magical means? Or was there a more simple cure to her situation?
Either way, Maeve did not hesitate. She rushed to the woman's side, gently placing one hand on her shoulder. My dear, are you alright? She asked her in a soft and genuinely concerned voice. ( I hope its alright that I replied ! Poor Felicia looked like she needed some help! ) [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Felicia had gotten further than she could have ever imagined. Her chest tightened with each step and her breathing struggled but with each resolved movement she somehow felt stronger too. She was doing it. She was getting there.
Out of nowhere she felt a weight on her shoulder. She winced as a wave of pain went through her. She heard a soft voice asking her if she was all right. She was a little taken aback. She wasn't expecting to be approached by anyone. Wasn't prepared for it. What was she supposed to say? Give a family history? Say anything? Ask for help? She wasn't sure is she could even still speak. She hadn't used her voice in two years. She had found it took too much energy.
She decided she would at least try to be polite. She tried to say that she was all right but all that escaped from her dry cracked mouth was a rusty croak. Instead she signalled toward the market, hoping that the soft spoken, beautiful lady would understand. (Absolutely fine Maeve. Great to RP with you.)

This poor girl! Maeve felt so much pain and suffering from her. What had happened to her to cause such things? It was devastating indeed, and Maeve felt the urgent need to help this poor delicate girl. She gently moved the girl's arm so that it was around Maeve's shoulder as this would provide her with the extra support to walk, for she looked like she desperately needed it. It's alright, She spoke in a soothing voice, hoping it would offer some comfort to her. Though she looked like she was on the verge of collapsing so Maeve was not sure how much she was processing right now.
I am Maeve. Please permit me to help you. She said this with the hope that the girl would not be alarmed or way to let Maeve lead her to somewhere that she could gather her strength once again. I am going to take you to a motel so that you can rest and recuperate. She began to lead her to the closest one. She did not think the girl would appreciate the large noise of the crowd, but of course, Maeve could be wrong. Oh, so much pain was emanating from this girl, that Maeve could not help but let some tears form in her eyes. It was heartbreaking what this girl felt right now, and it made Maeve rather sad, even if she did not know her.

Felicia was grateful for the lift when the nice lady took some of her weight. She wasn't expecting any help, thinking that she truly was now on her own. She was overwhelmed and truly thankful for aid.
When the lady told her her name Felicia gave a little weakened smile. She thought it a wonderfully pretty name. All she could think about was food and water but when the lady Meave offered to take her somewhere to rest she was torn. It was true she was tired, but she was starving and thirsty. She didn't have the strength to explain or argue so she let herself be led by her saviour.
"Thank you," she managed to croak.

She was such a sweet girl indeed. Out of the little strength she had, she was using it to thank her and be so polite and kind. It only made it more devastating to think of what circumstances had forced this girl into this condition. When they got to the motel she opened the door and helped her inside. The conditions in motels in this realm were not the best, and Maeve wished for a moment that she could take her to Mabon to make a full recovery, and put her in a place where she felt safe. If only there was not a war on magic declared in this world, things would be far more simple and everyone could have helped each other. But because of the persecution of her kind, they were forced to be cautious, paranoid, and tread far too carefully.
She quickly told the person at the front that they needed a room, and hurridely, guided them upstairs. She opened the door to the room and helped the girl to the bed. Rest here dear, he told her, moving the pillow and lifting back the blanket so that she would be more comfortable. I will return soon with food and water. She assured her. She did not know if that was exactly what was wrong with her, but she looked weak and so if the food did not help, then Maeve knew she would be forced to use a more, magical approach to help the girl for she would not let her suffer any longer. She paused at the door, glancing back at her. I will not be gone long, She reassured once again. [/color] ( Sorry I moved around Felicia a bit! If you prefer me not to, then let me know and I will edit my post ) [/blockquote]

As Felicia was led to a room at the motel and was made comfortable on the bed she sighed with relief. As her weight was lifted completely from her wary bones she sunk into the relatively comfortable bed and felt the pressure release from her body. She was so thankful even if she could speak right now she would have been lost for words.
As the dear lady Maeve promised to return with food and water she felt safe for the first time since her family had disappeared. She was overcome with panic when Maeve headed for the door. Afterall it was not the first time someone had told her they would not be long and then did not return. Even though the lady promised she would not be long in her return, she smiled but inside she worried.
(That is absolutely fine. My bad really I was supposed to say you could move me/her but forgot)

Maeve hurried downstairs, and quickly ordered some food from front desk. She pulled out some coins that she had made from selling some of her pieces. She did not have much money, but that did not matter. She was not in Camelot for monetary gain. Her image as a merchant was only to avoid suspicion from others. Any money she would make from it, she would use for a good cause. This was the perfect example... as much as she could give to feed the poor girl, she would give. She ordered some bread, soup, meat, and a pitcher of water so that she would have enough to get the necessary nutrition.
While she was waiting on that, she informed the gentleman that she would return. She went out to seek some proper clothes for the girl, for the cloak she was wearing did not look like it was in good shape. She managed to find some ready made dresses. They were plain, but less tattered than her current attire. Maeve offered some pieces of jewelry in exchange for the clothing and the seamstress was only too pleased to take them. They were at least worth something. Maeve thanked her and put the dress in her bag. She would offer more to the poor girl if she needed it but for now, one dress should hopefully be enough.
The timing of her return was perfect. The food had just finished being prepared. Maeve thanked the kind man, and told him she would take it up. She walked gracefully up the stairs with the tray of food, ensuring that not a grain of it spilled. She then lightly knocked on the door so that the young girl knew she was returning and to give her a few seconds warning. Maeve gently pushed it open and continued to walk in the room. I have some food for you here, She informed her, holding up the tray so that she could see it before setting it down on the table near the bed. How are you feeling?
( Oh thats awesome! Thanks! )

Although Felicia was panicking that the lady may not return, just like the others, she had a feeling that she would indeed keep her word. Just then she felt a sharp pain increasing behind her eyes. She had these often but still it took her breath away and took awhile for it to reside. As the pain ebbed away she gave in to the comfiness and decided she would rest her eyes. She felt like she had been awake for days.
Her sleep, as usual, was disturbed and unrestful. She tossed and turned as she dreamt of her lost family, the happier times then the dark times. The day, her 18th birthday, the pain came. She was slowly brought out of her sleep by a slight knock at the door. The lady had returned.
As Maeve entered the room, with a tray full of food and water Felicia smiled weakly and hutched up to the bedstead.
How are you feeling?
"I'm feeling much better thankyou," she managed, clearing her dry throat. Her voice was still croaky and dry but atleast she could now be heard and understood, although if it hurt a little. Felicia then thought of something she would like to ask, although she was worried, she didn't want to upset the lady. As she took the tray of food and lay it on her lap, stopping to take a big jug of the water she decided to ask.
"Erm, I am truly thankful for you hospitality but why are you helping me? I had walked through many streets before you saw me but not one other person even looked my way."

Maeve was relieved to hear that the girl was doing better. Perhaps it was just rest, food and water that she was in need of. But why? Did she live in poor conditions here? She wanted to ask what had led the girl to be this way, but she knew better than to pester her while she was still recovering. Her next question made Maeve feel sad. Sad that people here, did not care for others... that they would let this poor girl wander the streets clearly looking unwell, and not even offer a helping hand. Why did people only do things when they were to benefit from it? What happened to idea of helping someone just because it was the right thing to do? It made no sense to Maeve; the idea of reciprocity was far too popular and could really cost the lives of others.
My dear, I helped you because you looked like you needed it, She told her, gently smiling. While she was not all offended by the girl inquiring as to why she came to her aid, it still made her feel sad. I cannot understand why no one else offered to help you. She said, vocalizing her previous thoughts. I expect nothing in return, other than seeing you recover to your full health once again. She felt the need to say this, because with the way humans think... she did not want this girl to believe that Maeve had any expectations of a price in return for her help. That was not the point of this. The point was to help a human in ways that she could, and ways that every other person had the ability to help as well, for it was not through magical ways that Maeve had helped her. It was just a simple issue of food and water, yet it seemed to have gotten so complicated if everyone turned the other way.

Felicia was out at ease after Maeve's reply. SHe thought her very kind. Without meaning to she tried to read her thoughts, it was a thing she could not control, and once again she felt a great sharp pain shooting like pins and needles through her head. She grabbed and forehead and winced.
Once the pain had subsided a little she turned her attention to her food and water. Then she had a worrying thought. She knew she had to work something out herself but she was so used to someone looking after her. She still had no idea what she was going to do. She knew she needed some kind of income but how could she work like this. She had to find a way to lift the curse, or atleast find a way to lessen it someway. Without meaning to was starting to feel a strong need for Maeve not to leave her. But she knew that she was not the ladies responsibility and that the lady would leave to live her own life, follow her own goals.
"So, what happens now? Are you going?" Felicia asked, almost like a shy frightened child.

She watched the girl seem to be in more pain and was about to rush to her side when she seemed to control it a bit. Or at least, not make it evident in which case Maeve did not truly know how much she was suffering...other than what she felt emanating from her. Maeve pulled up a chair and sat near the bed and ironically it was shortly after this that the young girl questioned Maeve. While she did not expect it, she also felt even more guilty that the poor thing thought she was going to leave. Had no one taken care of her? Well clearly not considering her state. Did she have a family? Was she on her own? Maeve wanted to ask her all of these questions, but first, had to reassure her.
She reached over and gently placed her hand on the frail girl's hand. She then spoke in a soft voice. I have absolutely no intention of leaving you in a state like this. Then, she would be just like all of those passive people who had not offered to help her. I will stay with you for as long as you need, or like me to. This was her promise to her. She would help her in whatever way she could. May I ask what your name is? She wanted to know what to call her, a further attempt to show that she was trying to build a friendship with this girl so that she could help care for her and see her in a less pitiful state. I am Maeve, She introduced herself, lowering her head in a bit of a bow. Had she been standing, she would have curtsied.

As the lady touched her hand and spoke in her soft sing-song voice Felicia once more felt safe. She wasn't sure if it was just her soft assuring voice or her whole aura that made her feel this way but no matter. The fact that she did indeed make her feel this way made her happy.
Felicia smiled an easier smile as the lady reassued her that she would be staying as long as she was needed. That fact did make her happy but realisation hit her. She has always needed somebody, she didn't want the lady to rearrange her life just for her. Or was there indeed a way to cure the curse? Should she pin her hopes that this lady was the one to find the cure or admit defeat and end it now, give in and wait for darkness to take her?
May I ask what your name is?
"My name is Felicia, Felicia Shadowmere," she replied.

Felicia, She repeated with a smile. Such a beautiful name, She complimented, only thinking aloud her thoughts. Oh how she was terribly curious about this girl, yet continued to fight the urge to interrogate her. She had assured her that she was not leaving so hopefully, there would be time to discover what had happened to make her this way. Maeve was receiving very mixed emotions and could not differentiate them for something was underlying them all and in a strange way, dominating them.
I hope you do not mind Felicia, she began to say as she opened the small pack she had with her, taking out the dress she had bought for her. I purchased this for you. It seemed as if you needed a new one, so forgive my presumption if I was incorrect. She held out the dress towards her. I hope it is to your liking. Maybe once she was clean, in a fresh new dress, and has some food in her system, she would feel better. If not then Maeve would have to take a different approach to help her. [/color]

"Oh I do not mind at all," Felicia replied, with her most heartfelt thanks. She hadn't been given anything new for many a year.
Felicia knew that the Lady Maeve really and truly wanted to help her and Felicia felt sad that there was no way that could happen. Her mother and brothers had, from an early age, drummed into her that she must never tell anyone about her ability, never mind the curse which was put upon it. She really wanted to confide in Maeve but how was she to know if she should trust her. She felt like she could.
"It is lovely thank you Maeve." If she had had the strength she would have put it on there and then. But, alas.
"I know you want to help me," Felicia added sadly, "But the pain will never go away you know. Not til it kills me anyway."

So there was indeed something more with what had caused this condition. Something deeper... either emotionally or physically. She did want to find out more to see if she could be of any assistance. Even in a small way. I know that you are still recovering, so if you would prefer not answering this question right now, then I completely understand. She did not want to push her, or force her to talk when she still lacked the strength to. But hearing Felicia already speak about how the pain she was experiencing was permanent, up till death, concerned Maeve even more.
What had happened to force yourself into such a frail state? She asked in a subtle worried tone, though she made no secret to hide it; she only wanted to mask the desperation to know as the sooner she did, the sooner she could assess the situation and if she could not heal her, then perhaps her companion could. Maeve also knew she would have to consider the possibility that neither of them could help her...but as an optimist, she liked to stay positive.

Felicia instantly became guarded. Should she take a chance in the vain hope that she could indeed be helped. She knew her mother had always said that their was no cure but was her mother right. She had led a rather sheltered life. The family had always kept themselves to themselves. Only her brothers had ventured out into the world, and never returned. The way Maeve made her feel safe, almost at home, could she truly be trusted.
"If I tell you," Felicia started, pausing for the latest shot of sharp pain coursing through her whole body, taking her breath away. "Will you promise me that you won't tell anybody? I mean no-one. If it gets out I could be hanged," she carried on with stunted breath, panic showing in her face.

Not only could Maeve see the panic that was rather evident on Felicia's face and in her tone, but she could also sense it. Whatever it was, it was extremely serious! Especially if it could cost her life, if it fell to the wrong ears. Maeve had no intention of telling anyone and she wanted the girl to know this. To know that she could trust her for she seemed to be alone right now and Maeve did not think that anyone should have to endure such an ordeal, especially one that this girl was clearly going through, alone.
I promise you dear Felicia, that I will not breathe a word of this to anyone without your consent. If it was something that she could possibly cure, she wanted to tell Haldir. But she would not do so without checking with the girl first, if this was something of grave importance and literally a matter of life or death. I only wish to help you, not cause you further harm. Please, believe me when I tell you this. Her voice held that same subtle urgency, as she wanted this girl to trust her. Maeve knew that her own trust of people was far too quick and that she cold not expect the same from others. Whatever burden you bare, you should not have to endure it alone.

Felicia decided to brave it. She did truly believe that Maeve was a trustworthy person but if not either way her suffering would end. One was just quicker than the other. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a second then began.
"Right, well, many years ago my mother overheard, using her ability, an evil witch's plot to kill the King. So my mother told King Uther what she had heard and was rewarded for her loyalty with our house and a permanent job as seamstress to the castle. Then the witch found out what my mother had done and cursed her. Basically, she said, because my mother had betrayed the magical kind that magic would betray her too. So, she lost her telepathic ability and couldn't use any kind of magic anymore. As an extra evil she also said that, although it's rare, if any of her children contained any magical ability then it would become a disease. At the age of 20 the magic would turn against them, until death. So, for the past five years I've been holed up, hidden, in our house. The pain increasing day by day. My five brothers went travelling when I turned 21 to try and find a cure but they never came back. Then a couple of days ago my mother went out to buy food and water and she never returned. That's why today, for the first time, I ventured outdoors for food and water," Felicia told the kind lady, slowly and painfully. She had loved her family so much. They had been so close. If she ever found out who that witch was she had no idea what she would do.
Felicia looked at Maeve, tears slowly running down her cheek.

Hearing the poor girl's story was rather heartbreaking. Her condition has not arisen from something more preventable; it was a result of magic. Maeve greatly disapproved of people who used magic for sinister acts. It was what gave all other practitioners of this art a bad reputation. Magical beings have been around since the beginning of time but for those who found cause, however they rationalized it, to use to to harm others.... was behavior that Maeve would never condone. She felt great sadness for those people, that they were able to abuse such wonderful gifts and talents that they had. Then again, not everyone could share the same views. Though there would always be conflict, Maeve truly hoped that one day...peace would exist between humans and other beings, for the most part and on a more general level. At least to the extent where magic would not forbidden.
Maeve let a couple of tears fall from her own now moist eyes. It was such a sad story, and feeling her personal pain and suffering was overwhelming. Was she truly alone? Maeve could not even begin to imagine what this poor girl had to go through. Oh you poor child! She said in a soft, highly sympathetic tone. No one is deserving of such darkness and sinister acts. What was this world coming to? How had it come to this? How could people continue to justify their actions when they were physically harming others? Your family... Were they all dead? Perhaps they were still alive. Do not be discouraged my dear. There is always hope that they are still alive. Maeve wanted to offer to search for them, but also did not want this poor girl to be left alone.
Until they return, where are you staying? Who is going to care for you? Maeve wondered if Haldir had the ability to heal curses. She was not sure as they had never encountered such a powerful curse like this, or at least were unaware of it. But now that Maeve knew, she could not allow this girl to continue to suffer. She gently pulled her into a small hug. Do not despair. You are not alone in this horrible plight. No. Maeve would try to help her however she could, in whatever way she could.
