Dayton knew he was miles from home, but he was attempting to make a connection with someone who could get him a some hard to come by good. He needed this special black powder in order to ward off attackers. While it looked harmless; it tasted horrid, made you ill, and when mixed with fire became deadly. You had to enchant this powder in order to make it react to anything however; as the basic powder was simply crushed up leaves of some plant that only grew in some special place mile and miles from here.
And as Dayton did not like traveling to far from his little world, he usually just bought it, rather then seek out the plant. He found the man he normally bought the stuff from, and made a deal. They did not look shady at all, standing there looking around and quickly swapping bag but Dayton did not care. This was not his home, and they only knew him under some random name that he never used anywhere else. When he turned around to leave he froze, catching a glimpse of someone. He stood there for a moment, trying to find the face again in the crowded market. The splash of color in this sea of blacks and greys. He started walking slowly, trying to find it again. It had only been a flash of color, a tease to his eyes. Temping him; beacking him to follow.

Things were not going too well. She had come here as an undercover merchant, holding her bag of belongings. Unfortunately, she had crossed the wrong paths of two people she had bumped into and immediately, she could sense the hostility from them. Her belongings had fallen on the ground, and the diamonds and jewels had caught the greedy eyes of those men. They had managed to grab it first, and instead of trying to get it back, for she knew these efforts would be fruitless, she moved on. And yet, she knew she was still being followed. There was no end to greed and she assumed they expected her to have more jewelry than what they already had. All she had was her pendant necklace, something she was not willing to give to them, but they efforts to follow her led her to believe they wanted to know just how many jewels she was carrying.
She tried not to draw too much attention to herself. Her light colored cloak concealed her dress underneath, and she had the hood up, concealing her ears. That was all she needed; something else to attract attention to her. She began to glide through the crowd of people, doing her best to elude the men but they still followed. She did not know where Haldir was as she wanted to avoid using her abilities in such a public place. He was the one who carried the weapons, or at least his presence would warn off others... but he was not here, nor could she blame him. As long as he was safe, it did not matter where he was. She would have to draw these men away from the crowd and then use what abilities she could to distract them and leave without making a violent scene.
She detested violence so the more peaceful departure she could make from them, the better. But she was leaving the crowded city and they were still following. She was making her way to a more wooded area, hoping that Mirshann would come and that she could make a quick get away on him. But he was not here either. Maeve was getting worried! Tul nae amin revanthas... amin ant llie She whispered these words in a soft voice, closing her eyes to add to the concentration and summoning of Mirshann and hopefully Haldir would accompany him. And then she felt another presence...multiple ones. She opened her eyes and slowly turned around, seeing a couple of men, drawing their small daggers, preparing to kill her for whatever valuables they believed her to have.

Curious, Dayton had followed the flash of color deeper into the market. However, after not seeing it again he was about to turn around and leave. Cenred was not exactly the vacation hot spot now days, and he was out numbered here. He turned, and saw a few men running to something. That was when he caught sight of it again. The color. He jogged a few steps closer and saw a woman there, int he mist of the men. They were making jeers and talking about riches.
He knew her face, and was shocked to see her . . . looking so young! He stared at her for a long for moments, filled with shock at her having nor aged over the course of over ten years. Finally he shook his head and knew this was not good. He rolled his eyes, and pulled out the powder he had just bought. So much for his needed supplies. He put his hand over it and spoke in the language of old; enchanting it.
Then he turned to run to the blacksmith's stall, only feet away. He ignored the man's yelling and grabbed a large bunch of straw, lighting in the fire and then running back to the men who were getting to close to the girl. Dropping the fire near their feet he pulled out of of the powder and dumped it on the fire . . . which burst into a huge gust of flames for a good 30 seconds. However the men were to close, and their clothing in areas caught on fire.
Dayton moved around them and got to her side. "We need to run, NOW."

Maeve rarely lost hope, and she would not in this moment either. The crowd of the streets had been so great, she did not notice a man approach. If she had, she would have been instantly comforted. But in the moments where the men were getting closer, and closer, and it was still too public to use her magic, she was growing increasingly worried. And then, out of no where, a fire erupted right in front of her! It was too convenient to have been coincidence, for the flame increased even more after some sort of substance was thrown in it. She did not have time to take notice of what it was.
The next thing she knew, a familiar voice spoke right next to her. She turned in surprise, her eyes a bit wider than usual. It was him! A man she had encountered many years ago, and one that had been on her mind more often than a human should. She was not sure why... but there seemed to be something about him. Of course, she did not expect to ever explore this...but here he was! Haylen. She said as both a question and an attempt to accept his presence, that he was really here, saving her from these thieves. She was so relieved, so grateful that the thought of her unusual agelessness did not even appear in her mind. Not at this moment anyway.
She knew he was right. They had to leave before the fire diminished and she would put him in danger too. She silently agreed, and gently took his hand in her own. Come, she said, feeling the need to ensure his safety and she could only do this if she was able to see for herself that he would be alright, away from these violent men. She would never forgive herself if something had happened to him on her account, even if he was human. She never wished that upon any person. Though she did not run, she walked at a very quickened pace. Everyone was distracted by the spontaneous fire that it was their chance to slip away, and she moved towards an abandoned alley way, just so that they could catch their breath, pause and think, and figure out what their next move would be. She wanted to make her way out of the city but did not know what Haylen's plans were and wanted to thank him properly for saving her. [/blockquote]

He was glad when she started moving but that quickly turned to an annoyed form of urgency. She was WALKING! They men were going to put out the fire and come looking for blood and she was walking---and stopping! "We can no stop, you need to keep going." He demand, but could see she was out of breath. He was used to the woods, and running and going for miles if he had to; she did not appear used to it.
"Give this to me, the color stands out to much." He took her cape thing from her shoulders and, walked back out into the market, placing it over a basket cart riding by. With luck they men would see it, and chase the cart for a while before seeing it was a decoy. He pulled off his coat, and started to put it on her to hide her dress color; but he paused when he noticed her ears. He knew they did not have time for him to ask questions, so he tucked it away for when they were safe. "You mistress mystery, should not be here." He told her as he moved to take her hand, and pull her deeper into the ally and down the back ways. "Were is your horse?"

Had she had some sort of warning that he was going to take her cape, she would have been more prepared. But the sudden removal of it made her aware that her ears were exposed and it was not long after that he was close to her, putting on his coat over her dress. It was to conceal the light colors she wore, for she had noticed that most people here wore more neutral colors. It was not enough for her to completely change her attire. But it was moments like these where she wished she was more ready. And judging from his quick pause in actions, and the title he gave her... she had a feeling he had seen her ears.
She quickly adjusted her hair so that it fell over her pointed ears. I do not know, She admitted when he questioned the where abouts of Mirshann. The horse was missing, and her friend was missing. She now followed his lead, silently praying that they were safe. In dangerous times such as these, one could not be too sure. I will just go to the forest, where the trees can offer more concealment. And where she would wait for them. Where are you going to go Haylen? She just wanted to make sure that he would be some place safe too, as she could not expect him to fully escort her out of the city, and kingdom as that was where she knew she would have to quickly go.

He turned to look at her when she said she was just going to the woods. What then? She was just going to sit there and wait to be found? Really? "I am going with you, dearest, and making sure you get out of here before you loose more then your cape." He told her before pulling her along a little faster. He paused when he got to the other side, and looked over to where his horse was. "Stay here." He told her, and then he walked casually across the open lane to get his horse.
He untied the best, and paid the man who was watching it; before he walked it back over near the entrance to the lane. Mounting the large best he looked around to make sure it was clear before holding his hand do to her. "Quickly, before your friends decide to join us." So far they were avoiding them, but if they doubted back them they would be screwed. He was out numbered, and in a kingdom knowing for street fights.

He was going to stay with her? What a kind man! Men like this only reaffirmed her hope in the human race and that there was a positive future and stronger possibility for peace. Not everyone was selfish... and as she already believed this, he was a perfect example of further proof for other skeptics. She watched him cross the street, looking at his surroundings as well to ensure that no one would creep up on him. She may not be able to fight, or had physical strength, but she would do what she could to protect him...through supernatural means.
She did not hesitate in taking his hand as she climbed up on to the animal. Though she trusted others far too easily, she had a particular strong trust for him as he had already saved her life and furthermore, she could not sense anything dangerous about him. It was much like Alistair when she had first met him... and he had ended up saving the life of someone she cared for. She gently put her arms around him so that she could maintain her balance on the horse. She wanted to thank him for everything he had done, but felt this was not the time for it would be a rushed thank you and she wanted to properly say it to him rather than just blurt it out in a spur of the moment. Where will we be going? She asked in a soft voice, wondering if they were indeed going to a wooded area, or if he had somewhere else in mind. Either way, she did feel safe with him. Once she was on the horse, he kicked it into speed and starting riding hard out of the city. It would take a good day's ride to get out of the kingdom, and he would not feel safe until she was safely away. Why was she even here? He felt her hanging on, so he did not think twice about his speed. If she was about to fall he would feel her grip slacken, and that was when he would worry.
He did not slow to look behind him; but after a while of riding hard out of the city, over the meadows and coming to a small patch of trees; he slowed. He knew they were to far from her horse to worry about going back for it and he he hoped she was not attached to it. He dismounted and held his hands up for her. "The horse needs rest, and I need answers." He told her, explaining why he had stopped.
He did not know what question to ask first, there were to many of them. Who (or what) was she? Why was she here; and why was she 'here'? He held on to her a moment after helping her dismount, to make sure she was steady on her feet. "Did they hurt you?"

The further and further they were from the city, the more relieved she felt herself becoming. Why did people have to act this way? Were conditions so desperate that they were forced to take what was not theirs? How could humans mend relations with other species and beings if they could not even mend their own? It made Maeve sad...sad because she wanted to do more to help, but knew that for one person, faery or no faery, to achieve this on their own was an impossibility. Still, she would not stop trying. She held on, not too tightly but close enough so that she continued to have that stability, as they rode out and soon the horse came to a slowed pace, before halting completely.
She took advantage of his offered arms and with his aid, steadied her feet on the ground. She looked intently at him. He had aged, as was expected of him, but still. Assuming it was one thing and seeing it was another. He looked so different, his hair was longer, he was taller and more build. He had grown into a handsome man, and one that was not as young as she had initially met. As he questioned her physical health, she could not help but smile. He was so kind, such a gentleman....after all, he had just saved her life. Acts like that was what gave her hope. That he would save someone out of the kindness of his heart...the idea that he expected something in return did not enter her mind.
They did not, I am quite well, thanks to you. She then lowered herself into a curtsy, averting her gaze to the ground for a few moments; a gesture of respect for she was very appreciative of what he had done. She then raised herself after a few moments, looking at him once again. She began to remove her coat, assuming they were safe for now, and offered it to him. What answers can I give you. She found herself nervous to answer his questions, not sure how much he wanted to know but also knew that she had to give him what he sought. Even if he expected nothing in return from her, she felt indebted to him and knew that she would never be able to repay him for risking his life like that... for her. This was a small thing she could offer in return, if he was indeed genuinely curious. [/blockquote]

She was unhurt; that made him relax some. He had wondered if he found her in time. Between the flash of color that he had followed and finding her surrounded by men, he was unsure what all happened to her. He was not sure what he should be asking first, who she really was--WHAT--she really was. What she was here. Or the famous 'start from the beginning'!
He reached a hand up to brush her hair back from one of her ears. "What are you?" He asked, slightly confused. He knew of other non-human type creatures but had not known some could take human form. Or was she human? Was there more to this world then he knew? How much more was there, and what did this mean for them?
