Fire! It surrounded her, the smoke wrapping around her body as she was engulfed! Crying out, the druidess quickly sat up from her pallet in a cold sweat. It had not been real, she was alive and not burning. It had been nothing more than a nightmare. How they plagued her, the nightmares of a future that she may very well meet someday. She was no seer so such nightmares were not prophetic but rather the product of a fearful and exhausted mind. There were two things that were true about Catalina, she over-thought things way too much and she was a pessimist. She always feared that the worst would occur even though things were perfectly fine at the time. It was a fault of hers that she acknowledged but could not change no matter how much she wished she could.
The night was silent around her as she lay back on the pallet. The sound of crickets chirped around her and she could hear a bullfrog in the distance due to the pond that wasn't too far off. They had stopped to rest in Mercia before they moved on towards Camelot. Forever moving, never staying in one place for very long, that was the life that Catalina had always known and given that she loved her life with her people, she would always know such a life. It suited her really, given her restless nature as well as the safety that came from being with her people. She had gotten herself into a lot of trouble over the last few months and it was all because she hadn't the sense to ignore things that drew her curiosity.
Even still...there were times she wondered what things would be like if she chose another path, one that had her remain in one place.
Her Uncle was right, she did think way too much. It would soon give her a headache if she continued and she would do so if she remained just laying there. So she did the next best thing. She got up from her pallet and quickly changed out of her nightclothes. Once she was changed, she donned her red cloak and placed the hood up so that she protected her ears from the cool air. The lunar sphere that hung in the dark sky was shrouded in the dark clouds above so Catalina had to find a different source of light to help her. Cat held her hand out and concentrated. "sdwæsoan." She whispered softly, her eyes flickering gold before a small orb of light appeared over the palm of her hand. It had a soft warm glow that resembled that of the light given off by a well-fed fire and it hung over her outstretched hand. She kept it going as she moved through the forest, confidant that she was alone for now.
That was all she needed really, she just needed some time to herself to just relax. It was soothing, the serenity of the forest. Being away from Camelot seemed to help her fears because she didn't have to worry so much about guards seeing her display of magic and seeking to have her executed for it. Cat was not the sort to deny to anyone what she was, she was proud to be a druidess and she hated feeling as though she had to hide that when she was near Camelot. Stupid King Meathead and his foolish laws...

Late night and the dragon was being careful not to be seen. He was just spared recently by Merlin after he let his anger and desire for vengeance take hold of his very being. Why did the king have to make life complicated. Kilgharrah lived a very noble and simple life for thousands of years and now nothing could ever be the same. He had no one. His kind were wiped out and now here he stood, a foolish old dragon and the last of a noble bread. It would be an understatement if he said that the loneliness did not effect him.
He flew over the forest and decided to rest up for the night. He was tiered. True he did enjoy the comfort and freedom of the open air. He had greatly missed it after being trapped in the dungeon. Freedom was a blessing but Kilgharrah was not inclined to take it for granted ever again. No he would savor and protect his right to stay bound by no one and to live as long as time permitted. This upcoming war was going to change everything for the dragon and magical beings alike. He only hoped Merlin could fulfill his destiny and that Arthur would bring back peace and unity.
The dragon curled into a ball on the ground in the forest, hidden from any by standers. He looked like a large bolder in the trees if anyone walked too close. It wasn't long after he fell asleep that a sound of movement reached his sensitive ears. Usually it would not bother him and he would take no notice of it but this was different. For not too far away was a girl in a red cloak and a orb of light. She was part of a peaceful magical society and the dragon had noting against the people. The dragon turned his head so that he could watch the girl. It was very strange for the dragon to care about what a human was up to but something compelled him to take notice of this one. "Good evening child. What compels you to venture here at this hour?" His voice could only be heard in the mind and never spoken out loud unless he wished.

Freedom was something that could be seen as both a gift and a curse to some. Not enough freedom caused someone to feel trapped but having too much freedom allows for one to grow careless. It was hard to find a balance between the two. Given that Catalina had never known what it was to be caged or trapped, she perhaps suffered from the curse of too much freedom, hence why she often found herself in a lot of trouble in many different ways. The thought of meeting up with a dragon in her lifetime had never crossed her mind except when she had been a child and she had been told about the dragons before they had been wiped out by Uther and his war on magic. It was a shame really. Not that Catalina could have known about the Great Dragon being chained in the depths of Camelot Castle nor had she or her people heard of the pains that Camelot had undergone at the wrath of the recently released creature. Being nomads, news of Kingdoms that they were not near didn’t reach them unless it involved them somehow.
That being said, perhaps Aldriv had known. He saw a great many things when he would scry and perhaps the dragon’s rage had been seen and was the reason he had chosen to lead them to Mercia rather than choosing to head to Camelot. He was a wise man and putting his people in any sort of danger was something that he couldn’t do no matter what.
Every so often the young druidess would halt her soft steps and just take in the sounds and sights of the forest at night. It truly was magnificent and there were times that she felt as rich as any king in being allowed to wander as she pleased. She was in her element here in the forest, it was apart of her as much as she was apart of it and there was nowhere she felt safer than surrounded by life in the form of foliage and wild animals. She had no reason to fear this world or any within it. Or so she thought…
"Good evening child. What compels you to venture here at this hour?" Catalina’s eyes widened and quickly halted in her tracks and looked around to see who had spoken to her. She was no stranger to telepathic speech for her Uncle did it at times. Still, it was a surprise because she did not know the telepathic voice and she had been so certain that she had been alone but it seemed that she was wrong. Perhaps her fear was pre-mature, the voice had sounded pleasant enough and was merely inquiring as to what she was doing there. It was a reasonable question since it was a bit off to see a young woman walking alone at night.
The light that hovered over her hand flickered for a moment, as though weakening due to her attention being diverted but it strengthened after a moment, illuminating the area better so she could see who was speaking with her but still she saw no one. How did one answer a seemingly disembodied voice? The answer of course was politely as possible since she didn’t know quite what or who she was dealing with. “Good evening to you as well stranger. I apologize if I am disturbing you,” she said aloud, hoping that whoever had spoken was still there and would show themselves. “A restless night brought me to wander the forest, it’s calming I suppose.” She said with a bit of a shrug as she still looked around. Nightmares of fire and death had brought her out but she could surely not share such things with someone she could not see.
“I do not know to whom I speak but would you show yourself to me?” She asked after a moment of hesitation and uncertainty. She was not afraid of those who had magic but she was afraid of the unknown. She could not help it. “I mean no intrusion nor harm. I simply wish to see whom I am sharing company with.”

The child's voice was polite but confused. Kilgharrah found it humurous but he did understand why the child would be confused. It wasn't every day a dragon spoke to a mere human no matter the power the lie beneath the heart. The child was a free soul that had an interesting future ahead of her. She knew not the confines of a cell or the coolness of a chain that tore away the freedom of a being such as himself. To finally be free and yet he still needed to stay inconspicuous or else his race would cease to exist.
Disturbing? No she wasn't disturbing him. Quite the opposite, Kilgharrah did not mind the company of such an interesting child. This Druid would be important later on it the unity of the lands even if she knew not of her own role. And why should she? She was a child high off of the freedom that she took for granted and knew not of the trials that her generation must face to bring peace to the lands. "You do not disturb me. Quite frankly I find your presence intriguing"
Kilgharrah shifted his weight and lifted his head slightly. The child was not too far off from the clearing in which he tool refuge. "Walk towards the clearing if you wish to know my identity. I will warn you now that I am not that of man but of magic" The dragon's yellow eyes watched the child, curious with what the girl would say and how she would respond. It wasn't everyday that he came in contact with a child with an interesting future.

There was definitely something worrying about speaking with an unknown voice in the middle of the night while she was alone. She had her magic but she was a pacifist by nature and so she wouldn’t use her magic for anything other than defending herself and even then there was still a lot of danger to her. Had she known that she was speaking with a dragon… No, it was hard to say what she would have done because never had the thought of speaking with a dragon come to mind because they were seemingly extinct. Besides, why would a dragon choose to waste it’s time speaking to someone like her? She was of little importance as far as she was concerned. Not that she disliked herself or had low self-esteem, she just figured that in the grand scheme of things, she didn’t really rank all that high. Turning around and heading back to her camp came to mind of course, it would have been an easier and safer option but her curiosity would not allow her to do that. She had to know. Had to know to whom she spoke with.
She was polite both because that was her nature and also because she didn’t know the nature of the person she spoke with. She could only imagine that it was a person since she was unaware of other creatures that could communicate telepathically. She had probably heard that dragons held such capabilities but again, dragons were exactly the first thing on her mind. Aside from the abruptness of the voice as well as the lack of being able to see the owner of the voice, she really had been given no real reason to fear whoever this was. Still holding the orb of light over the palm of her hand, she sighed as she waited for a response. She felt rather silly just standing there speaking aloud while the other person in the conversation was able to speak telepathically. He found her presence intriguing? Why would he find her presence intriguing? That only seemed to heighten her own curiosity of the stranger. “You do?” She asked after a moment’s hesitation. “Why?”
She was then given instructions if she wished to sate her curiosity and find out who owned the voice. His warning was taken into account, causing her to hesitate in whether she chose to remain or leave for the safety of her encampment, leaving the voice’s owner’s identity to be a mystery. She couldn’t though. Not yet. Gathering her courage, she shone the light brighter still as she headed towards the clearing where the dragon waited for her. She was scared but she still chose to keep walking. The glint of the dragon’s yellow eyes was what caught her attention first, causing her to stop the moment she reached the clearing. Wait… It couldn’t be… Her eyes widened as she took in the magnificent sight of the large creature.
Never had she ever thought she would be in the presence of such a creature of magic and power. Her jaw practically dropped and she stood there, unsure what to do. Run? No, such an act would be foolish since the dragon would have no problem snapping her up in it’s jaws if it so wished. Besides, it apparently meant her no harm. “I…” She tried to form words, feeling that simply staring would be rude. “I cannot say what a surprise this is.. I was led to believe that dragons no longer existed.” Oh yeah, that was great Cat, that was so what the dragon wanted to hear. To be reminded of the loss of his kind. “My apologies…I meant no disrespect.”
This was definitely not how she had thought her night would turn out. A little walk to clear her mind and than she returned home. Easily enough but no, her life just seemed to enjoy being complicated and unexpected. She knew nothing of the dragon’s gift of foresight; therefore she felt it was only polite in introducing herself. “My name is Catalina, may I know your name great one?” She was not seeking to get on his good side, though she wouldn’t mind that at all, she was simply showing him the respect his kind deserved.
