.:Physical Appearance:. Morgause has dark, deep-set eyes and tanned skin, marked by lines and scars that depict the harshness of the life she’s lead. She has long curly blonde hair that she usually pins back from her face but allows to hang freely around her shoulders and down her back. She’s slender with an athletic physique from years spent on the road and fighting for her survival. When she’s somewhere she feels safe, she has been known to wear form-fitting gowns that show off her figure, but for the most part she can be seen wearing the armour of a man, more practical for travel and better in a fight should she need to defend herself. .:Height:. 5’6” .:Portrayed by:. Emilia Fox
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Morgause is a hard woman. She has to be, to have survived as long as she has in the life she leads. Many people would say she is cold, but this is because Morgause has isolated herself from others for fear of losing them, with the exception of her beloved sister, Morgana. She’s determined, and stubborn, and is never one to give up or back down when challenged. Sometimes, this is to the exclusion of reason, as with her drive for vengeance against Uther Pendragon. She blames him for the deaths of all those she cares for, and while her goal is to see to the safety of magical people, she would rejoice at his death, and sees it as the only way to rectify all the wrongs he has committed over the years.
Clever and cunning, Morgause will not hesitate to use anyone she deems beneath her to her advantage and cast them away when she is done, and there are not many that she considers her equal. She considers herself better than most people, thanks to her obvious gifts, and she has little patience for those who are incompetent or simply stupid. She’s very manipulative, capable of being quite charming and convincing when she needs to be, and very used to getting what she wants out of people. Morgause is extremely confident in her own abilities, and isn’t afraid to let others know it. She’s a very powerful lady, in more than one way, and she has every reason to be confident.
Despite what she may wish others to believe, Morgause is not as cold as she seems. She’s lead a very hard life, and she’s let it make her bitter and cold. She can be callous and unforgiving, and she’s grown desensitized to the taking of lives in order to accomplish her goals. She can be ruthless and considers morals to be optional; in this game, you either win or you die, and morals mean nothing to a corpse. Needless to say, Morgause has no intention of losing. However, there are some lines that even she will not cross. .:Strengths:. Survivor, Determined, Cunning, Clever, Manipulative .:Weaknesses:. Stubborn, Arrogant, Superiority Complex, Vengeful, Isolated .:Magic Abilities:. As a priestess of the Old Religion, Morgause has mastered many spells, including those that allow her to raise the dead, summon illusions and cast a deep sleep over many people, among others, provided she has the correct spells and items to complete her spellwork. .:Special Skills:. Morgause is quite skilled with a blade, since her stepfather started teaching her as a child and she has been practicing ever since then, often in life or death situations. .:Accents:. Noble English
| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Camelot .:Family:. Morgause is the daughter of Vivienne and the step-daughter of Gorlois, who her mother married shortly after she was born. She doesn’t know her biological father, as she was conceived through a ritual of the Old Religion. She is the half-sister of Morgana Pendragon through their mother. .:Occupation:. High Priestess of the Old Religion .:Current Location of Residence:. Nomad .:History:. In her youth, Vivienne was quite the supporter of the Old Religion. It was in her blood, in the form of magic, and she learned its ways from the priestesses. So when she was still a maiden and asked to take part in a fertility ritual, she eagerly agreed. It was in that ritual, with a man whose name she never learned, that her daughter Morgause was conceived.
It wasn’t until after her daughter was born that she married Gorlois, a knight of Camelot. Vivienne had always been passionate and fiery, as well as very beautiful, and the young knight quickly found himself smitten with her, uncaring that she already had a daughter or that she belonged to the Old Religion. He adopted Morgause as if she were his own, even teaching her to wield a sword when she was a child, even though she was a girl, because he never wanted her to be defenseless. Her mother taught her the ways of the Old Religion from the time she was very young, and was ecstatic that her daughter’s talent was even stronger than her own, considering it a blessing. Growing up, the priestesses were as much family as anyone else, and she was trained from birth in the ways of magic.
She was eleven when her mother became pregnant again, and Morgause was excited at the prospect of a new baby in the family, but no one was happier than Gorlois. He loved Morgause as his own, but what man wouldn’t be pleased by the prospect of a child of his own blood? When Morgana was born, everyone rejoiced, another healthy girl to add to their family, and Gorlois happily resigned himself to being surrounded by beautiful women for the rest of his days.
They were happy for three years…until the birth of Prince Arthur, and subsequently, the death of Queen Ygraine. Uther outlawed magic, and ordered the death of all those with magic…including Vivienne and her daughters. Gorlois pleaded with his best friend for their lives, but only succeeded in convincing Uther to spare little Morgana, who was too young to know any magic yet. Vivienne and Morgause were still to die. But Gorlois could not stand back and watch the people he loved died, despite his duty. He hatched a half-baked scheme to escape, one that could only end in all of their deaths. Vivienne convinced him not to go through with it, but to save Morgause. They conspired with Gaius to whisk the child away to the High Priestesses of the Old Religion, saving her life…but with this plan, there was no time to save Vivienne. She died knowing her daughters were safe.
Morgause was forced to grow up quickly, on the run with the priestesses, learning all she could from them. Over the years, through rigorous training and much sacrifice, her powers grew, making her very formidable. She continued her practice with a sword, in tribute to the father who had tried to save her, determined to restore the proper balance of the world, to make things safe for her people…and a small part of her wanted to see Uther burn for his sins.
Over time, she found herself in Cenred’s country, where she was captured by the King himself while practicing her arcane arts. Channelling some of the passion and guile of her late mother, Morgause was able to ingratiate herself to the King, earning herself an ally who would prove extremely handy over the years.
